GBK - Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Cambridge

We visited this place about a year ago and it was great that time. Today - total disappointment. We ordered 3 well done burgers and one medium rare. All 4 (including medium rare one!) were burnt. No draft beers today. It was not straightforward to get not ice cold tap water for our baby. First, they told they have only ice cold water, when we asked just a glass from the tap, they told they only have some special water tap with cold water. At the end we asked hot water from coffee machine to mix, that finally worked, but the staff was not able to suggest that without us, unfortunately. When I payed the bill the waitress pushed “ok” on card machine for optional service charge without even asking if I want to pay it. I paid it, but, today did not deserve any service charge to be honest.

felt a bit ignored, long wait to order and would have done it online but someone else’s bill from before us was still there when we scanned the QR code on the table. Forgot our drinks or they never arrived but there was no staff around to ask until the food got to the table and one of the waitresses did apologise for the wait. Not sure if it’s short staffing but it looked like the waiting staff were the ones having to cook the food and serve? just seemed like a lot even though it wasn’t busy it was causing them to forget things. Me and my partner felt too awkward to ask to take the 10% service charge off, but as we both work in restaurants/hospitality it felt very impersonal and probably wouldn’t come back.

Wow! This restaurant was so yummy! The food wasn’t too pricey at the portions were extremely good. The staff were very nice and never took to long. Lovely view of the park and when we went it wasn’t too crowded. Would definitely recommend and i will for sure be going again!

I've visited this branch a couple of times now (it's rare for me to be in Cambridge) but stopping here is always a must! Staff are always friendly, in particular our waiter. He is always helpful & approachable, takes the time to explain the menu & make sure you are comfortable. The food is on point too! Honestly the nicest burgers I've ever eaten, full of flavor, chunky chips were out of this world & the milkshakes are to die for. I find the restaurant very comfortable too, it has been clean and tidy on every visit so far & the aesthetics and atmosphere are nice, music not too loud, etc. Only complaint, if any, is that it can be a little bit chilly by the big windows but it's not that bad. Eating here has been one of my best experiences when dining out, if burgers & shakes are your thing then go for it & treat yourself! It's well worth a visit, especially for the price :)

Juicy, a very good messy, and full of flavor. Highly recommend these burgers. Wish we could give it a 4.5. Interesting sides with a twist, try the matchstick fries and garlic slaw. We tried 3 different burgers, each had a distinct taste, not your regular burgers here.

We felt a bit ignored for one and two we waited AGES for our burgers and when the time arrived (about 45 minutes later even though we ordered the exact same burgers and it wasn’t particularly busy) we only received one of our burgers. the manager came and told us that the other one would be a little wait and then the waiter came over to tell us how the burger would be late as he thought it was his so he ate it. There was no resolution to this issue and even when we received the rest of our order it was cold and not very pleasant to which we mentioned During the check back. However they still seemed unapologetic and there was still no resolution. Coming from 2 hospitality workers it was just unpleasant and we both left feeling sick and unhappy.

We highly recommend this restaurant for a great burger with friends and family. Customer service was excellent and we were greeted and seated by a friendly & professional manager. He enquired if we’d eaten at GBK before and happily discussed the menu and gave some great recommendations to us. The burgers did not disappoint! In fact, I’d say they were the best I’ve had for quite sometime. They were cooked as requested and tasted juicy and chargrilled. Delicious. Sweet potato fries were a hit as were the chunky chips and amazing onion rings. We also enjoyed the refillable sparkling cordials - great flavour combinations. Unbelievably, the children still had room for a shake which we took away with us so we could walk it off! We would definitely revisit GBK and highly recommend the Cambridge restaurant. See you soon!

Really good take out experience. Fab falafel bunless salad and loved the banana blossom starter. Very well packed- perfect to eat in the park in Cambridge-we asked for some forks and we’re given wooden ones. Easy ordering easy pickup.

We booked a table on the evening before we took my son home from university. We were shown to our table which had a lovely view over Parker's Piece. Ordering and paying for food was easy using the QR code and the website, although I couldn't provide a tip as we hadn't sampled the food or service at that point! The burgers could be selected to be cooked to your liking and they could be customised - deduct or add items, including the bun - as could the sides. The drinks arrived quickly and the food soon after. The burgers were cooked perfectly as were the fries. The onion rings were neatly stacked and weren't greasy. The garlic slaw was outstanding! Garlic-laden (as you might expect) and flavoursome. Having sampled a number of American diner style burger restaurants, including a couple local to us at home in Cornwall, I had "set the bar" in my head as to how good the food at GBK had to be. It didn't disappoint! The only reason I didn't score them a five was because the skinny fries weren't quite as good as the skin-on chunky fries. Some of the drinks were sublime - rum and oreo chunks shake, for example. Altogether an extremely good meal with a lovely view.

I don’t normally leave reviews but this was some of the best service I think I’ve ever had. Don’t typically expect that from a chain but we were so impressed. Louis was absolutely amazing - someone give that man a pay rise!!

We visited yesterday evening, had to write a review because it was amazing! With the current state of play with everything GBK were on spot with all aspects. Hand sanitiser, cleanliness and the food piping hot! Whilst stood at the till I witnessed staff members washing their hands every minute or so it felt. This was super reassuring and testament to the fantastic service delivered. I didn’t get the name of the staff members but they were super attentive and lovely. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, we will be back!

Mi novio y yo cenamos allí para sacar provecho del 50% de descuento. Sabíamos que esta cadena hace hamburguesas increíbles y este lugar lo confirmó. La comida era increíble, tomé la hamburguesa con salsa de falafel que era muy suave y sabrosa. Las bebidas gaseosas rellenables también fueron muy refrescantes. Luis fue nuestro servidor y fue muy amable con nosotros, desafortunadamente, como se esperaba, el lugar estaba bastante ocupado, por lo que el servicio no estaba en la cima (sospecho que no tenían suficiente personal debido a los recortes de personal y también tenían muchos pedidos en línea), pero él Siempre me aseguré de que estuviéramos contentos con todo (después de un comienzo un poco lento). ¡Definitivamente lo recomendaría!

Best burgers and best staff. My cousin and I had lunch at GBK Cambridge and the service was absolutely fantastic. The staff is friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. We totally recommend this place:)

Going bunless is a very good idea - you get a very nice salad in exchange and I never eat the bun anyway! Very pleasant service, nice food. I'd have had a beer but they were way too expensive. The falafels were very much enjoyed by one member of our party who repeatedly said how great they were. Until we asked her to stop. My vegan burger was very good too

My son, my daughter (she is a very strict vegetarian) and I took a chance on this greasy establishment (filthy, oily, floors and cutlery-yuk!) and ended up with a ruined Saturday birthday luncheon for Brad (my son). It is lucky for them that we had a sense of humour that day otherwise there would have been an f-word Ramseyesque flip-out there and then (which we are known for in other establishments). Lucky. Very lucky.

One of the most delicious burger I've ever had. Nice environment, great view and helpful staff. Even if it was a bit expensive it definately worth the visit.

El personal y el chef son muy amables y atentos, pero no demasiado abrumador. La oferta de almuerzo se sirve en una porción decente para llenarme durante todo el día. Had a nice meal here after walking around cambridge. The location is really good and you can see the green behind the restaurant. Had a nice chicken burger and the service were good. Overall a nice meal out with tasty food. The strawberry milkshakes are delicious!

My sons took me here as a birthday treat in March. The staff were extremely friendly and this helped make my special day a good one. The food was of a good quality and the surroundings were lovely, we sat towards the back of the restaurant looking out on to Parker’s piece a special Cambridge view.

Went for lunch to Gourmet Burger Kitchen, we had a very pleasant meal. When you arrive you are seated and have to go to the counter to order your food. Our drinks were delivered promptly and the food was excellent.

Tables, flooring, doors, stairs to toilets, and toilet area dirty and had not been cleaned in a long, long time. Needs a visit form Environmental Health. When I pointed out to a waitress that the floor was sticky in some parts and greasy in others, she said, "Yes, I know" We had to pay as we ordered and were very uncomfortable with the lack of cleanliness. We have visited other GBK restaurants that have not had this problem but it has made us feel we should think twice about visiting any GBK in future. If this is the customer area, is the kitchen the same, or worse?

Fui hoy aquí con mi novia y las picaduras de halloumi eran enormes y muy buenas, las dos comimos una hamburguesa de pollo con migas de pan que era perfecta, sin problemas y todo fue atendido muy rápidamente y el personal fue muy amable y servicial. ¡Absolutamente recomiendo este lugar a cualquiera que busque un encantador y tranquilo restaurante para comer en Cambridge! En cuanto al precio, era bastante barato, para nosotros dos era como 30 libras, así que, en general, ¡no está nada mal!

There are many really good burger restaurants in Cambridge, and GBK is one of them. Apart from the delicious choice of burgers, what always distinguishes this one from the others for me, is the outstanding service. Always friendly, always smiling and always with quick service. Congrats to this evenings manager and team. It’s this that brings me back with family time after time.

Wir waren als Paar zu Abend essen und sehr zufrieden! Der Service, der uns begrüßte war sehr zuvorkommen und wahnsinnig freundlich! Das Essen kam innerhalb von 10 Minuten, die Getränke quasi sofort! Das Essen (2 Burger, Pommes und OnionRings, zwei Saucen) war toll, geschmacklich klasse und frisch!

Todo el mundo le gusta una buena hamburguesa. Por una buena hamburguesa, me refiero a una hamburguesa que tiene buena calidad de carne, un panecillo que mantiene su forma y algunas extras metido dentro para añadir algunos zing.

Came for dinner to this restaurant. You order at the counter and choose a burger with sides of your choice. I opted for the bunless chicken satay burger. This was 50p extra without a bun, instead including a generous serving of 'Slaw' as well as a corn on the cob. I thought this was good value if you don't want the bread as these sides are more than £2 individually. I really enjoyed my burger, satay sauce tasted of delicious peanut. There was also garlic mayo on my plate. Overall a good experience and good value if you are sensible about sides.

What a stunning burger. Great flavour, excellent meat and just all round hearty food. If I had to be critical the thick cut, skin on chips, were a little soggy, but that is splitting hairs. The Oreo milk shake went down so well with our American niece, she was dipping her skinny fires in it. Highly recommended.

I love GBK and they did not disappoint when I went there for a meal with my friend for my birthday. Lady at the till was very helpful and patient as we were all paying separately. I also have the app which means I can get fantastic discounts!

He ido a GBK muchas veces. Las hamburguesas allí son increíbles y cada mes hay una adición especial al menú. Buffalo burger es un deber.

Hamburguesas, precios de ganga. Desde su situado justo en el borde del campus, su parece ser un favorito de los estudiantes. Nos gustó tanto que comimos allí dos veces.

Nice atmosphere and staff are usually really friendly but a few factors disappointed me over the last 2 times visiting the restaurant- first time they missed out my friends order which was just a bowl of chips, despite the rest of us having our full meals, we then had to ask twice for her chips which then took ages to come while the rest of us waited with our meals in front of us. The second time at the restaurant, service was again quite slow but a little better but rare is not an option for beef burgers and when I got medium rare it looked almost well done, not the best of places but the food is still very nice and if you get the app you get a lot of good deals!

Can't understand why the food here was so different to other GBK branches we have eaten at. Our onion rings tasted of burnt oil which was unpleasant and we couldn't eat them. The veggie burger was just mush. The restaurant is tiny and crowded. Expensive for the poor quality of food we had. However the man who seemed in charge was making lots of effort with customers, just a shame the food let it down.

When I first went to the GBK, the burgers were great. But the more I went to GBKs all over the country, the more I realised that this is just a hipster chain that is trying so hard to not be like Frankie and Bennys and the rest, but is slowly failing - and the burgers rapidly got worse as GBK got more and more popular.All the different burgers on offer are things that I don't believe should ever be allowed to be together - BUT I know a lot of people like this trendy style and like to be more adventurous with their burgers. This is clearly not the place for me.The GBK in Cambridge is just like the one in Brighton, London, Edinburgh etc- except this is tiny. You run the risk of being smacked in the head by a tray or a handbag, or being the one who does the barging. There is simply not enough room to run a restaurant in this tiny building. The staff are okay if a little-in-your-face and too hipster-quirky for my liking. The food is okay, chips are nonexistent, and for such a 'new and innovative' restaurant chain, they offer no lactose-free cheese alternatives. Silly me - here's me thinking they were modern and on trend. It's also very expensive for what you're getting. Not worth the money or the aggro of trying to squeeze your way through the teeny tiny restaurant. It might be to some people's taste but it is not mine!Also, the peanuts go everywhere.

We went for a milkshake and a snack after swimming at the local pool. Pleasant interior and good service. Milkshakes were good, as were the chilli chicken bites - a bit pricey though.

Lovely food, and good selection for people who don't eat meat. However had a horrible rude waitress who was very rude to my boyfriend. The way she spoke to him was very unnecessary, and from then on the staff didn't bother with us. Lovely food, just shame about the service.

Καταπληκτικο burger, τελειος χωρος κ πολυ καλη εξυπηρετηση. Δουλευει εκει ενα παιδι απο ελλαδα κ ηταν πολυ ευγενικος κ εξυπηρετικος. Το milkshake φραουλας πρεπει να το δοκιμασετε , τεραστιων διαστασεων με εκπληκτικη γευση . Αν ταξιδεψετε Cambridge πρεπει να πατε οπωσδηποτε ;)

Yummy food, great service, we now have one in our area of the U.K. Planning a trip there soon .. hopefully we'll have the same experience there too ..

Visited here for a burger with my partner one evening. We went for the speciality Big Mouth burger which was very tasty. We were seated quickly by very friendly staff and we did not have to wait long for the food. The beer was a little expensive (£4.50 for a small tin of Big Mouth Beer). Overall recommended.

We took my hubby here for his fathers day lunch. (he got a free beer, so that was a selling point for him!) The place was smaller than I imagined from pics online. It's basically an up market burger joint.Staff were very friendly and helpful.Food took a while but we weren't disappointed with the meals.I had the veg option, Johnny be goat which was nice. Also had sweet potato fries as a side and they were lovely - came with a dip which I didn't know what it was but it was yummy.Rather expensive for a burger place but they are huge and nothing like Maccy D's low quality burgers.The shakes were too expensive for what they were and the kids didn't really enjoy them that much.Overall, a nice lunch out but not sure we will rush back.

Got super-welldone burgers without much of a taste, and quite unprofessional employees. The sweetpotato fries with baconaise was among the best i've ever had though. Such a shame that they couldnt cook the burger. Quite expensive..

I visited here with my boyfriend on an averagely busy Sunday night and didn't have a great experience. The food was tasty, of a good quality and the menu was really varied (although they had like six or seven items missing from it?). The problem was the service, the really shocking service: My boyfriend and I wanted to order and pay for our meals separately but for them to arrive at the same time (not a particularly difficult concept, right? I mean the local Wetherspoons manages it without much emotional stress). I informed the waitress as I paid of our plan and she said yes, okay, fine. Did our food come out together? Did it heck. When I went back up to ask a different waitress when my boyfriends food would arrive, she proceeded to blame me for the problem and said I should've asked on paying, which I did, or that we should've just paid together. The lack of communication was laughable and her attitude was pretty disgusting. She said 'she'd try and fix it or give me a refund or something'. The manager (I assume) then came over to our table (bringing with him my burger before I'd even finished my starter and before my boyfriend had received ANY food at all), to ask us what the issue was and how he could fix it. Which is funny as he was part of the issue for ordering my boyfriends food to the wrong table, which only exacerbated the already confusing issue. We left with a full refund of my boyfriends meal and a few icy glares from the waitresses. The lack of communication was embarrassing, the waitresses' poor attitudes were unnecessary and I will absolutely, definitely not be going back there again (I would much rather spend my money in a better establishment, e.g.: Byrons).

If you want a filling bite to eat that won't break the bank or test you powers of imagination then GBK will suffice. A lot of choice based around the faithful burger. Efficiently and promptly served and tasty too. What is a slight pain but is 'the way we do things' is that food has to be ordered at the bar and paid for there and then.... Which is a little bit of a prob if you want anything more, so no final bill to settle. Anyhow, it all runs efficiently when simple honest food is wanted.

My boyfriend and I enjoy eating here as a treat (we can't always afford to eat out). We arrived shortly after opening (since we skipped breakfast), to be told the grill was broken, and were waiting for a mechanic. We were offered alternative dishes that can be made without the grill, which we accepted, and were lovely! After ordering, my other half asked me if I had ordered onion rings, which I had forgotten, so he proceeded to get some only to find they were on the house, as well as the fizzies, (which was incredibly nice of them,) especially since we didn't demand any compensation over a silly grill malfunction.We will still be returning to GBK soon enough :D

Location accogliente e personale cordiale e preparato...ottimo il mio hamburger con pomodoro, pesto insalata e cipolle....spettacolari anche le patatine dolci....il tutto accompagnato da una buona birra.Prezzo onesto....locale consigliatissimo!!!

Happened to be in Cambridge for the evening and fancied something good and reasonably priced and not my usual fare, have never been a fast food lover and the food here, whilst a burger it is definitely not a fast food, but let me clarify that statement, service is fast friendly and very efficient, however the meal itself is just that, a meal in a very good bun, the portions are, well staggering and very reasonably priced. It was busy but not too bad, I would highly recommend the food here and will be returning, I think I have happily been converted to this type of repast

GBK has a nice location, excellent variety in its menu and decent prices.I went a few times and I can't really complain: burgers arrived in less than 10 minutes, staff was always friendly, food was tasty and well prepared. After four visits, I didn't experience a single problem: GBK consistently delivered.
