Fancied a curry and we were in the area so thought we’d try out The Gaylord - what a mistake that turned out to be! Food was awful, service was shocking! After getting our order wrong not once but twice we were then hit with a 12.5% service charge! Save your money folks and steer clear of here!

worst food I've ever tried in my entire life. I vomit 3 days in a row after having their meal. plus they force you to pay 12.5% table charge which is not mandatory by the law but they said they don't care they will rub you in the daylight. Very rude staffs. The taste of their Biryani is 99x worst then any PFC shop and cost is 2x, how funny. please don't waste your valuable time and money.

Whilst the menu is condense the food is of good quality & interesting variety. The staff however are disinterested and on the verge of being rude. This could be down to the fact they add a 12.5% gratuity to the bill automatically, this seems to have made the staff complacent.

This used to be a destination Resturant as it has locations in Mumbai, and London. Used to have one in New Delhi too. However it’s not kept up with the times. Decor was poor with dirty carpets and food on floor. Only two waiter for the entire dinner service. The food was full of salt and the Naan was not prepared in a traditional tandoor over. My family has visited the locations in New Delhi and Mumbai and were expecting a similar environment in London. Sadly I will not be returning.

For Christmas I was brought a groupon gift to visit this restaurant. The buyer of this gift was excited as the pictures showed Indian dishes with a contemporary twist, nice plated dishes (similar to a masterchef plate of food) , not like your local curry house--something special . So I was very excited about visiting however the food was mediocre, not presented like the pictures at all!!! , you could tell the waiting staff disliked their jobs- one even commented to another table they were leaving and couldn't wait to go (so obviously staff morale was down). When receiving this gift I checked out TripAdvisor and reviews weren't great but I went with an open mind however they are right... It is not worth the visit. ..yes if you are on groupon it works out around 20ish pounds each but you probably will get better value and food at your local just eat deliver service. Sorry Gaylord but you need to update your pictures to reflect your cuisine (I don't mind paying high prices if quality, service and expertise is shown in quality of food) and if you are charging high prices because of your experience in the food industry for over 50 years you need to do something to become that very popular restaurant in London. If I wasn't on groupon I would have no paid 100 pounds for a dinner for 2...

Not fantastic. We had a Groupon voucher gifted to us by family members and it showed... They said the word 'Groupon' a good 4 times before seating us. The poppadoms were an extra £1.50 each (for one per person) and there was a 20% service charge even though we had 3 different waiters serve us, none of whom were particularly warm or friendly. The meals were okay (nothing you couldn't get in a local curry house) but the rice that was meant to be shared between two people was tiny and smaller than the individual rice portions the couple next to us had whom weren't using a Groupon voucher. We finished our mains and were instantly presented with our bill... No chance of a desert here! 😂 The meals were good but like I said, not worth the price they charge. Probably wouldn't return.

I was with friends who had a voucher for a meal that was given totem at Christmas - and we were in town for a music event. It was Sunday night (28th Jan) and my friends had booked for us although there was no need as it was empty barr one table of 4/5 people. Given it was early (6pm ish) the restaurant empty and there were a few staff around we weren't greeted warmly in fact the staff seemed unhappy at having to be there - or unhappy at having to work as we are there - the service was indifferent and slow. We weren't offered drinks but had to call someone over who couldn't or wouldn't take our order and he sent someone over. The menus for my friends were taken away as they'd got a gift voucher it was a set menu. They wouldn't transfer it and let them order from the mailmen but have less food. Just odd inflexible approach. Tried the art of conversation. Nah nothing happening - responses were surly and sullen. When the food eventually arrived - bland, boring and average. I cannot think of one positive about the restaurant, its environment, service or food. The restaurant did fill up a bit and no-one else got good service either. As a previous reviewer said - they don't value your custom here. There are plenty of really good Indian restaurants in London. This is not one of them.

Had my 50th birthday celebration at this restaurant on 20th January 2019. Prior to the day, my wife and I met with Sameer Berry (General Manager) who went through all the options for our 50 guests and made some excellent suggestions to make this even better then we anticipated. On the day, everything went like clockwork and 11 days on, i'm still hearing from my guests what wonderful food & experience they had. I cannot thank Sameer & his team enough for making everyone comfortable on the day, food was a plenty and the atmosphere was brilliant. I have been here a few times, which is why I chose this place (& its central to everyone), however, this was next level of hospitality. Thank you for the memories.

We visited Gaylord for the first time in a number of years, our previous experience having been that it was expensive but a worthwhile treat. This time, the restaurant was very different. Half empty, the service was still slow and the waiters (with one exception) seemed very unhappy to have to look after guests and regarded them as some sort of inconvenience to their evening. Service was very slow and they even managed to mess up an early request for a few more poppadoms. Although we were seated some way from the door, one of our number had to get up at least 4 times to close the door which was letting in the cold to the extent that some guests had their coats on. The food itself was mostly fine, though nothing special and certainly not worth the prices. A prawn tikka masala (£18) had only 3-4 prawns in a large bowl of sauce and one order of onion bhajis was forgotten by the waiters then arrives burned and almost inedible. As others have said on their reviews, this place used to be good but sadly has deteriorated and central London has much better options regardless of price point. Don't waste your money here and go somewhere that values your custom.

We booked the whole restaurant on a Sunday lunchtime for a family wedding. The hot nibbles before sitting down we’re very good and the main course with deserts was buffet style with a great selection. The service was excellent with kind attentive staff. One of the most surprising things about the meal was the red and white wine being from India. They both complimented the dishes served and red was particularly delicious. I would absolutions back again.

Check the food hygiene rating before attending! I was shocked at how poor this restaurant is. It has such a good reputation but i was bitterly disappointed. It is run down and overly priced for what it is. Service is slow and staff attention is abysmal. I could have been in any rundown curry house in the UK, nothing special here at all. I cannot put into words how terrible this place is avoid, avoid, avoid!! Go to Benares, cinnamon club/kitchen, Quilon, gymkhana etc instead - these restaurants are light years ahead and well worth the money compared to Gaylord. I complained to the front of house and he still thought they gave good service and quality food. I do not normally complain in the restaurant to avoid creating a scene, but this is so bad. He then argued that as we had put the kids food orders in first, it had thrown off the kitchen staff. Suggesting it was my fault! What a joke! Every restaurant knows that children’s food is served first before the adults- I have never ever had his problem before, but at Gaylord it is apparently an issue. They did offer me a 20% discount and not to pay service charge, but looking back I should not have even paid for this meal. My fault I guess! I am still shocked and I went to this restaurant over a week ago. One thing I do know is that I will not be recommending this place to anyone and also will never attend again. Guys save yourself the stress, dent in the wallet and a dreadful experience and go somewhere else.

Visited the Gaylord with a bunch of friends for our annual Christmas jolly. We have returned to this restaurant for the last couple of years and although I considered it expensive in past visits I had no other complaints....until last night. We were a party of 12/13 and walked into the restaurant at 7pm, our pre-booked time and the place was all but empty. The staff were very quick to bring poppadoms and beers which is fine and these kept coming. The starters arrived in around half an hour. I had soft shelled crab at around £8 and I have never seen such a small example of the species, it was all but hidden by the meagre salad garnish. 1 1/2 hours later we still had not been served our main courses...but the beers kept coming. The restaurant by now was filling up and we were all getting very hungry. I approached the management who was an arrogant man and explained that we weren't happy and asked him how he would make things better. He offered no real excuse and said he could have our food out in 7 minutes! How he could do this when it had already taken them 2 hours is beyond me and it tells me that the delay is deliberate to sell more drinks. I requested 50% off the bill which he flatly refused. The mains finally arrived. I had ordered a king prawn dish at £18 which was tasty enough but served cold (after 2 hours!) and only contained three king prawns. For me that was the last straw and I refused to pay for my meal. The rest of the group were more forgiving than me and paid full price for theirs (minus the service charge). The upshot for me was a big mac on my way home for which I was happy to pay and far better value. My advice for what it is worth is do not go to this restaurant as there is plenty of choice in the west end who would be happy to get the business. Sadly, I suspect the restaurant wont change as its location means it can probably get by on tourist trade. Massively over priced, slack service and miniscule portions. Go somewhere else.

Food - very nice but not particularly memorable. The curry portions are very large so I prefer to share number of them with a group. It’s a shame they only serve Thali at lunch so I couldn’t order for dinner. Ambience - it’s one big room with the tables spaced out nicely so not too cramped. We had a nice table in the corner. Staff - they were pleasant but it was hard to get their attention. It’s one of those places where specific staff are looking after your area of the restaurant so you can’t just ask anyone for something. Overall, it was a nice choice to go there with a group of friends and some good food.

Have been going to this restaurant for years. The service over the years has been oblivious. The restaurant is an icon in Indian cuisine for the fact that it has been around for such a long time. It is certainly overpriced, but I do like the food. There is no attention to detail. They may as well have robots as the staff, there is no human interaction. All staff need to be trained in people skills and be friendlier. Additionally when the waiter came with the plates, he placed them on the next and wrong table. A few moments later he picked them up and placed them on ours. But the the other guests had already touched them. This is not acceptable. We had also booked with a discount on opentable, as this was the attraction along with the food. However when it came to paying, they did not include the discount, which is meant to be automatic, and this is embarrassing for the customer. I will return, but there need to be changes As Gandhiji said: “A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption of our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider of our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favour by serving him. Went here with some frinds on a midweek night out. The palce we had booked had double booked so we endingh going here as a walk in. I had heard about the restaurant, being one of the oldest Indians in London. So we were quite pleased to have a chance to try it. Unfortunately depsite there only being a few tables in the restaurant the service was slow. We were seated next to a drunk group of middle aged men, who were loud and annoying. No idea why we were seated there as the rest of the place was nearly empty. So we kindly asked to move tables, which we did. We then had to ask if we could have some drinks, then after a while we had to ask for menus. A while later we had to ask if we could order. On it went, no service at all. Not what you expect. The poppadoms were not fresh but stale. We ordered a mixture of lamb and chicken mains, but we all found the meat to be dry. Quantity was good, but the food was just OK. Rather diappointed overall. For what it was it was expensive and clearly the restuarant is trading on what it used to be rather than how it is now.

I don't like writing poor reviews, but Gaylord really needs to review its service. The food is still good, but it used to be great. My lunch experience today just annoyed me with surly nonchalant service.Five minutes after ordering a set lunch, I asked "Do you offer poppadoms?" to which the answer was one delivered on a white plate. When my lunch arrived I asked "Do you offer drinks?" for which there was no apology for the fifteen minute absence of not asking me if I wanted one. There was only one other table occupied, so there was really no excuse for this. Please will someone put some love and energy back into this place, it still has legendary status, but I fear the star is fading.

miserable visit - worst golgappa in my life, reheated fish amratsari, dry and reheated biryani. Even at 50% offer, this is a useless restaurant to go to. I have gone there over the last 30 years but the standard seems to be going down and down. Roti Chai 5 minutes away provides much better food at less than half the price. Never again.

Gaylords

Yummy food, get the lamb! The service is decent too. Pani Puri wasn't that great but everything else is amazing. We have been coming here for years, since I was a kid, and we love it!

Nice enough Indian food but very expensive for the quality and portion size. Beware that bottled water is also £5.75 a bottle! I wouldn't return because I've had a lot better food for half the price. Our bill was just under £207 for 3 people with one bottle of wine.....

Very delicious butter chicken and coconut curry. My friend enjoyed the taco and kebab starters. The taco comes in an adorable little wire car stand. Although I read some reviews that said the service was subpar, we found the service to be excellent.

Am surprised this has low ratings but I really liked the food when I came here with a couple of friends on a friday night a few weeks ago. Lamb shank was too good. A must try. Butter chicken and non-veg platters were good as well. Service was a bit slow and one of the waiters was a bit annoying but overall was a very good experience.

No escuche comentarios, hago mi propia hipótesis

Fabulous food. Awful service, it seemed like the waiters had taken copious amounts of ketamine and as a result where unable to speak, carry things, walk, interact, be polite, etc. The chefs however must not have tried any special K as the food was absolutely superb.

We were disappointed with our visit to Gaylord. We'd wanted to try the restaurant for a while, and friends bought us an OpenTable voucher for a meal as a wedding present, so we were looking forward to our visit.

Sadly, we found service to be slow (20 min+ for a drink?), the waiters to be disinterested (we had to get up and serve ourselves water at one point as it was obvious that no one was going to come over, and several times we caught our waiter's eye only for him to walk straight past us) and the ambience to be quite stressful (our waiting staff had a full blown argument about wages, which lasted a good 45mins, on the restaurant floor).

The food was quite good, but nowhere near worth what we were charged. We both said we've had similar in our local high street Indian.

I was also disappointed by the cleanliness of the toilets (menstrual blood on the wall).

We are reasonable people and have both worked in catering/hospitality before. The restaurant was very quiet on the night we visited, and I do understand how that in lots of ways can be harder than it being busy - everything runs slower as you cook to order, and people start doing cleaning/housekeeping jobs which distract them from customers. But despite us voicing our disappointment politely, and eventually refusing to pay the discretionary 12.5% service charge added to our bill, there was no attempt to address our concerns and no apology made.

We came to the conclusion that perhaps Gaylord is trading on past glories, and in future would save our time and money.

Have visited before and returned because the food is great, despite being a bit on the expensive side.
Luckily, we checked the bill carefully before paying as we were charged twice on some items. The issue was rectified swiftly but without much apology. Sadly, this has tarnished the dining experience a little.

This place was close to our hotel and we was really hungry. It is an Indian restaurant and we went for two menus so that we could share and taste each other’s food. Though we were hungry it was so much so when we got to the main course we were already full. They asked if we could come back later on in the week to eat it. Great service that! Overall good food and a nice place to catch up with a friend.
