If you are used to fine dining, skip it. Even for a chain I expected better. The location is good and the welcome okay but it is (as often the case) style over substance. I was allocated a table in a corner that could not be reached without the waiters bothering other patrons. I ordered the scallops followed by the Churrasco chorizo steak. The scallops were flavourless even though the description suggested otherwise. The steak was fine, the chimichurri sauce was blah and the chips over salted (and I love salt). Just blah overall. Finally, the service was fine, I received my food but nothing special and my starters were removed without even making eye contact. But of course, service added…can’t recommend.

We were here to celebrate a special occasion and the wonderful staff made it so special and memorable. Food and service were exceptional. I do not hesitate in giving 5 stars for such an amazing evening. Thank you.

I can't fault the food or the service but hadn't appreciated that the restaurant was dog friendly. My partner has a significant allergy to all dogs and as the restaurant is a downstairs venue with no external ventilation this was not ideal. We were accommodated far away from the one (well behaved) dog that was in at the time so I cannot fault the staff. Having relooked at the website I see that it does say it's dog friendly, but you have to scroll to find it. I just wouldn't expect a fairly expensive restaurant to allow dogs. Sadly, because of that we won't be back.

What a great experience! The food was absolutely delicious - the favourite being scallops and the steak with chimichurri sauce, and we were so well looked after by Natasha! The ambience was perfect for a girls night too, great vibes all around. Thank you, and we will definitely be back!

Nice place, great steak!, Food was good and well presented. The waiters were all very experienced and nice to us, Natasha who seemed to be the manager that evening was very attentive and proffessional. Prices were very reasonable. We will definitively go back when in town again.

For a restaurant that implies it is one of the best this was very average and not good value at all. Surely staff, poor quality steaks and lack of attentive service. To top it all a 12.5% service charge…rip off Britain.

First visit to Gaucho Edinburgh in a while it’s a special place for us as we had our first date here. We have tried many Gaucho restaurants but Edinburgh is by far our favourite. The decor and lightning is lovely and creates a romantic and relaxed vibe. You can sit for hours and enjoy each other’s company while grazing over good food and drinks. The restaurant is immaculate and toilets are always clean to a high standard. Our server was Viola who was professional, knowledgeable and bubbly. Nothing was any trouble and she even catered for our dog Kali. For starters we shared the pan de bono and arepa bread which is very tasty and the scallops which were cooked perfectly. We were sad to see the prawn ceviche is off the menu but hope it comes back. I had a bottle of rose wine Pretty Gorgeous which is my go to choice, highly recommend and Steve had Stewart’s Lager which is on draught and a local brewery. We then ordered the 300g ribeye steak cooked medium which was perfect and melted in your mouth. We ordered fries, humita, truffle mac and cheese and a Béarnaise sauce which was all wonderful and tasty. The portions are very reasonable and filling so we quite often share and to be honest I am not a huge steak fan but do appreciate a good steak and I will pinch a bit of Steve’s. However there is lots of alternatives on the menu so you won’t be disappointed. For dessert we shared sticky apple and date puddling which finished off the meal. We had some cocktails, porn star martini’s, Highlander and Banana Kick which are created with love. We were sad but happy that Sean the General Manager has moved on up with in the company as he was a real asset in Edinburgh. The new manager Sian seemed lovely and confident in her role so look forward to seeing her again. There are many steak restaurants popping up all over Edinburgh and we have tried them all as Steve is a great steak lover. Some other steak houses have grand buildings but we love the intimacy of Gaucho Edinburgh as it creates a great atmosphere if you are with a loved one or friends. Over all Gaucho’s is the best steak place in Edinburgh, it is a little more expensive compared to other places but it is worth it. We enjoy making memories here and look forward to making many more.

The menu doesn't have too many choices. As far as I know, any steakhouse should offer a Caesar salad, but they only have one salad. The gratuity is included in the bill at 12.5%, which is quite high. We split £30, and I poured my own wine. They should work more on the menu.If you cancel the booking, they charge £20 per person, which is quite significant

Last visited with business clients from Paraguay 18 months ago. It was a superb night. Came back this weekend and….it was even better. My friends and I were lucky enough to be looked after by the wonderful Craig. Remembered my name and, more importantly, the Malbec I’d enjoyed 18 months ago. What a legend!

Somewhat dated attempt to wow customers with a dark decor, low lit expansive basement dining room. Food tasty enough but hugely overpriced and overrated. First class staff, attentive and knowledgeable.

Came here as hubby wanted to try argentine steak. As a vegetarian, I contacted the company who accommodated my needs. Food was freshly cooked and tasty. Service was good too and food arrived promptly. The bread was tasty too! We would eat here again when in Edinburgh again.

The service was impeccable, it always is so I really should’ve reviewed a while ago! This time, I was served by Alessio, he is so friendly and has a good energy around him, he made the experience feel very relaxed with no worries even when wait times can be busy (valentines weekend) and his interaction was so genuine. I was impressed mainly by a worker named Natasha too, she was not waiting our table but kept on checking on us to make sure we were happy and okay and also checking with he was okay though I noticed she was also rushed off her feet! It was so nice to watch staff interact with each other wholesome too as they seemed to vibe off each other. Natasha took the initiative to make sure we were cared for when alessio was busy and the team work was amazing. I appreciated this lady took time to tend to everything else and also smile, ask questions and seem genuinely invested in our experience. I have came and had a similar experience with Natasha once and I regret not leaving that review. My partner at the time asked for a romantic setting to our table and she made sure we were offered amazing treatment and were catered for with a smile and grace like she genuinely enjoyed being there and being part of our experience. Your staff are FANTASTIC. I don’t like to compare but it is way better staffing and attention to customers individual needs than some Gaucho branches have been and you’re ALL busy as ever all the time! God bless.

We had a fantastic evening. The place was packed so we were so glad that we reserved a table. Coat check and a lot of personal service. Yanis, our server was delightful, informative, and engaging. He had all the qualities that make a good meal a great experience. Three of us ordered the 400g ribeyes, 1 ordered the fillet, another a sirloin, and the last a rump. Unanimously, we agreed that our steaks were among the best we'd enjoyed. With a bottle of Vino Patricia to complement the beef, it was a perfect pairing. As a group of friends we prefer to steak houses over other restaurant types. Our last night in Edinburgh at Gaucho was a highlight of our trip.

I’ve heard of a lot of good reviews from this place, although I had quite a bad experience. The servers were very rushed and they didn’t ask me how my food was, they didnt seem like they wanted to talk to me as they didn’t have any eye contact or good communication at all. The food service wasn’t bad it was pretty fast, although I wouldn’t recommend streaks from here as they aren’t dry aged and for what you are getting it’s not that worth it. I would recommend getting a steak from chop house. The desserts were nice. The bathrooms were very poor, there was water spilled all over the counters and quite messy, far too dark and very very dimly lit, I could hardly see anything. The doors are VERY HEAVY and my nail broke when I tried to open the door, although I do like how they have a cloak room.

Just had a wonderful experience - celebrated my colleague’s 60th birthday and couldn’t have asked for a better night. From start to finish the staff were superb, the interior was a great mix of relaxed yet plush, and the food was top notch. Ioannis looked after us extremely well: explained all the cuts of steak so we could pick the perfect one for our tastes, was on hand any time we had a question or request, refilled wine glasses like a Malbec ninja and very kindly took some lovely group photos for us! I had the ribeye (Ancho) with chimichurri sauce and a side of chargrilled baby gem lettuce. Cooked to medium perfection 👌🏻 The salted Dulce de Leche cheesecake was heavenly and the banana pancake was delicious. Perhaps also, the best olives I’ve ever tasted! Would highly recommend the lychee blossom cocktail too. Honestly, I could go on….. Book a table, you won’t regret it!

Came here on a Monday night and were greeted by the host. She took us downstairs to our table and introduced our waiter for the night. We had a very lovely bottle of red wine (Wild Scarlet) and were talked through the different cuts of meats. Our starters followed very shortly. I had the burrata and my friend had the scallops. Both very nice and made us look forward to our main courses. We both had the churasco de lomo steak. Now, I have to say it was not the most flavourful steak I've ever had BUT it was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. All in all, very good experience and perfect spot to treat yourself. The place filled up very quickly and was near full on a Monday night - that must say something!

We went last year for my birthday and was absolutely amazing. Service was fantastic and granted, food was pricey, however we felt it was justified because we were made to feel special and it was a nice treat. We were hoping to make it my birthday tradition so we went again a few days ago and I actually cannot believe the difference. It felt like a completely different place and could have gotten better service from a drive through Maccies to be honest. We had booked a table, yet waited over 35 minutes and even after looking visibly upset the concierge finally came over only 20 MINUTES later as she had decided to avoid us rather than offer us anything to then awkwardly as if we wanted a drink. When we were finally seated (despite there actually being many tables just unfortunately only ones that seated slightly more than 2, yet you’d think that would have just sat us anywhere at that point) our server, Alex, amongst other staff members were immediately unwelcoming, uninterested, unhelpful and inattentive. The £40 steak I had was cold and the £5 peppercorn sauce to go with it was a watery oxo cube with a few peppercorns sprinkled in. Also no apology or compensation for the fact they were late. We rushed to get out of there so much so we spent over half the time waiting for the table than we did eating. Awful experience and a short tradition. Will not be going in future and I’d recommend saving your money and time and going to somewhere else as we discovered so many nice restaurants around.

Fourth time in Gaucho. First time best steak I’ve ever had. Next two times steak underdone and tough. This time opted for mushroom Tagliatelle. This was splendid. On the plus side restaurant staff attentive and efficient. On the minus side. We had to wait for our pre booked table- have never had to do this in an up market restaurant before. Girl at reception was at best disinterested. I think the food and wine are grossly overpriced. There is the most appalling music assaulting your ears as you eat and try to converse. An incessant, loud, boringly repetitive thump- thump-thump of an uninspired playlist from a resident DJ who doesn’t understand it isn’t a concert and needs to vary his selection and keep the volume down. While this din persists I won’t be back- regretfully.

We tried the 4 steak sharing experience - the rump was just about OK, sirloin alright, fillet good and ribeye fantastic (this saved the meal). The chimichurri sauce and mash was good (though small) but the roast vegetable side dish was small and not cooked well as some of the vegetables were too hard. The service was friendly and helpful but quite slow as they seemed short staffed (just like most places it seems these days!). Overall a reasonable meal but personally next time I will pay the bit extra and go to Kyloe in the West end.

First time on new year's Day we came. To be greated by a very friendly member of staff and made to feel special. Waited over 20 minutes for a pre-booked table to find a bright, noisy fish-market atmosphere for what it was supposed to be a romantic dinner. Waited 30 minutes for a Chateaubriand that arrived lukewarm to the table. Roasted vegetables were half burnt. I won't be rushing back.

Excellent food, but some of the worst service we’ve had in a while. Slow, inattentive and forgetful. Took over half an hour before someone took our order. Any time we wanted something from the waiter, we had to stand up and go to him. We ordered main course and desert and were there for over 3 hours. At the end, they tried to charge us for drinks and other items that we didn’t order. Such a pity because the food is truly top notch.

We used an itison deal which cost £68 for the spiral rib eye for tow with two sides and two sauces. We also had a bottle of wine costing £50 ( one of the cheaper bottles on the wine list) and one cheese cake costing £10. We finished the meal with two expresso martini each costing £11. The food was great and the staff were really attentive. The total cost of the meal came to £185.01 less our £68 itison voucher. Bringing the bill down to £117.01 on the night. Not sure what the saving was using the itison voucher as I thought the whole meal was over priced.

I celebrated my 50th two days ago, and it was a night to remember, not only of my 3 perfect kids, but the restaurant. It is exquisite, food excellent, the service great. I felt respected, celebrated, and happy. The lady on the picture who was serving us was very kind, competent, and really pleasant. Apologies for not remembering her name. The atmosphere was just the cherry on top of the cake for my birthday. Go there if you want to celebrate your personal or company holiday.

Went for a dinner as family celebration. Table of 5 with two kids both under 8 years old. Food was average and not up to the expectations for the price you're paying. The service was extremely slow. We're talking about 40 minutes (not exaggerating) waiting between starters and mains; they were steaks, and medium-rare so the waiting time was unjustified. The restaurant was not even half capacity as it was reasonably early (6.30 pm). Again, after the mains we had to wait with the dirty dishes in the table for another 20 minutes until someone came to offer the desserts menu. After that, another 30 minutes until the waiter came to take the order for our desserts. He apologised because (his words) he forgot about us. unreal. All the experience was stressful as there is nothing worst than two kids bored during a meal because everything is extremely slow. I understand the food takes some preparation and that we cannot expect a service like in a fast food restaurant. But 2 hours and 20 minutes for a meal is extremely long. Our celebration turned on a disappointment dinner. In my opinion they should had offer something in compensation for this, since they admitted their mistake, but instead they charged the 12.5% service charge still. We’re definitely not coming back. Edit just to add that my boys were upset because they were referred as "ladies" by the waiter (by mistake, I want to think!) just because they have -beautiful- long hair. This was funny because they insisted me to let the waiter know that they are boys. So there you go. They're boys. Done.

Absolutely outstanding, we went in casual and although this is a very classy restaurant we were made to feel at home, champagne recommended was on the money from our waiter, and the service overall was informative and swift. My only gripe would be to point out that cutlery is very important when dining. I want to use nice quality cutlery when I’m eating fine dining food, I know how I might sound however I feel it makes the whole experience better. Your cutlery seemed old and well used, when my husband asked for a better knife he was handed a Robert Welch one that was far better. Anyway yes I think it would be a great idea to provide better cutlery. We would absolutely recommend this restaurant and we would absolutely come back.

This is a rare experience to have a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere with brilliant service and exquisite food. Yes it is dearer that some other nearby restaurants but absolutely worth it.

Fantastic food, starters were the best prawn and scallop dishes we have ever had anywhere in the world. Firecracker chimichurri is the perfect accompaniment for steak. Cocktails also amazing. Could not fault.

Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the food quality here. We had about 7 people in our party and our bill was close to $700. I don't feel the food was up to par for a well-rated restaurant. Service was wonderful, and staff was attentive.
