Gates in Rutland

First visit to this superb garden centre. The restaurant is large and comfortable with lovely views. The food was tasty and service excellent - all Covid measures followed. We look forward to returning.

We like this place for breakfast so we’re pleased to see it has reopened after the COVID 19 closure. So we went in for lunch. They are very well organised and take your contact details just in case. You are shown to your table and the whole thing works well. We felt safe and thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips we ordered.We will now look forward to returning for breakfast! Well done Gates.....we think you have this right.

We've eaten here many times, and the food has always been good - we particularly appreciate the good range of vegetarian and gluten free choices. This time, we went for afternoon tea (a Christmas gift). We called in advance, as requested, and were pleased to be told we didn't need to queue when we arrived (our only issue with this restaurant is that at busy times it came take a long time to place an order, and then get served). The afternoon tea was generous, well presented and very tasty. Unlike far too many places, the sandwiches were fresh and well filled. The cakes were delicious, and staff were happy to confirm they were safe, as one of us has a nut allergy. There would easily have been enough for three, or even four (we had to bring a 'doggy bag' home!). Altogether a very good experience, plus a nice garden centre and excellent farm shop.

Fancied something different today so even though it was cold I opted for the Ploughman‘s lunch. Well, one of the best I’ve tasted delicious porkpie, ham, cheddar, and stilton. Large portion and great value at £9.50. Really pleased to see they change the way drinks are ordered with somebody now taking the order at the table. About time, and so sensible as before you’d have a long queue if you just wanted an extra drink or desert. Overall a great lunch

This is our usual go to for a nice breakfast in the area but after today we will be thinking again. I appreciate that the time of year it’s hectic however when ordering a breakfast and asking not have a particular item on the breakfast and then to be told clearly NO ALTERATIONS. We were going to go and eat somewhere else but husband went a spoke to the restaurant manager and explained that the reason we asked for something not to be in the plate was because I am highly allergic. Gates nex5 time someone asks for something not to be on their plate think again refusing and just ask yourself why....

I went to have a quick bite with my kids after doing some plant shopping. the garden centre in itself is amazing in every way and the farm shop a very nice addition. The cafe/restaurant though is a serious let down! You can’t have dairy free milk with your coffee, the scrambled eggs were so overdone without any cream or enough butter and had no seasoning. My kids had beans on toast and it was literally a tin of beans thrown on some toast that’s gone soggy by the time it arrived. Such a shame that the restaurant can’t keep the same standard as the rest of the garden centre and the beautiful farm shop!

Had a lovely meal, weather hot so had a light lunch,nicely served,and delicious,lovely staff, will call again

Lots of specials in addition to the menu choices, really good, and reasonably priced. Fabulous crayfish and avocado salad.

Food served all day, had a lovely breakfast on first day of our holiday. The menu looks really good. This is certainly worth a visit, especially as it’s one of the biggest garden centres I have ever visited and still growing. Such good quality items of all sorts for sale from plants to garden furniture to candles

Went to counter to order food, asked what cold drinks available. Told by counter staff "They are in the drinks cabinet" which was located the other side of the counter, near the wall. I asked because I am short sighted-even with glasses, and regarded this womans curt reply not only as very unhelpful, but downright rude. This would have been all the same had someone had a more serious visual disability. Total disregard and uncaring. I think the womans name was JANE.

We popped in while visiting the garden centre. You find a seat and then go & order your food. Good idea having reserved notices to place on table whilst goung to order your food. Served quickly and the food arrived in good time. the surroundings are lovely, we managed to get a window seat which overlooks a lake. There is also seating outside which would be lovely when the weather improves. It was busy when we visited. Will return in the summer.

This place takes you by surprise. Light roomy extensive spacious and also inviting, with many corners and alcoves, and tables by the windows to take in the views.(rheas and sometimes lambs) You need to decide on your table first, then find its number , then walk back to join the servery to choose your food. Your order will be brought to your table.

The food ordering service is much improved, but the food remains good value, well prepared and tasty....oh and filling!

Really nice restaurant in the garden centre serving a good choice of food, and always well presented, and nice flavours. My one niggle is that it always seems to take ages to order. The queueing system through the tills needs to be looked at, and it seems crazy that the same people that work the tills then have to pour drinks. It also means going back for another drink or dessert is a bit of a no-no. There must be a better way.

Part of a huge, well stocked garden centre, this restaurant has a huge range of food. Despite going on a Sunday lunch, the maximum wait for hot food (Sunday roasts are also available) was less than half an hour. Good quality food and drinks served as well as freshly squeezed orange juice. Very reasonably priced and great quality. Well worth a visit. Easily accessible from the car park with ramps and lifts, with a large number of wheel chairs available to use.

We are regular visitors to the Gates Garden Centre - that is myself and my daughter who has spent thousands of pounds there. We always visit the restaurant which is beautifully decorated and furnished and love the cosy fires which are very welcome in the winter months. We always enjoy the food (so wish they would bring back the fish cakes) but on every visit we have experienced the same sorry story that waiting staff fail to clear away dirty plates etc... so like today we enjoyed our lunch and bought two bottles of Prosecco which we would have enjoyed so much more if we weren’t surrounded by our unwanted crockery etc.... by the time we got to drink our Prosecco the restaurant was practically empty so there was no excuse for it. Staff passed our table on numerous occasions so is it a thorough lack of initiative on their part, lack of training or simply bad management! We have spoken to restaurant staff about this issue which is a real pet hate of ours but clearly nothing has improved. It is such a shame that this lets the garden centre down. It is not cheap to eat there so I think we deserve to see a big improvement!

The food look fabulous here and we were almost disappointed that we had already book in somewhere else to meet up with family. We stopped for coffee though and the restaurant was clean, stylish, busy but strangely not noisy. We will be back!

We entered a strangely empty resaurant area, and immediately found a seat. Ordering at the servery was easy, and the menu offered a wide range of attractive options. While the food was being prepared our grand-daughter played in the smallplay area, which cost £1.50 for an hours play. Which seemed a little steep, as there was no one around, but on a busy day would make sense, as it is only small, and they would need some way of monitoring numbers. Outside was a nice balcony area overlooking a lovely pond and the Leicestershire hills, but it was a little too cold for that when we were there. The meal was served at a perfectly good time after ordering. I had the ham sandwich which came with mixed salad and crisps, the salad was fresh and tasty, the ham was delicious and moist. My family were equally delighted with their meals too. All at a reasonable price.

Thanks for a great breakfast experience! I was looking for somewhere that offered a fun drive out and an abundance of naturally beauty. Your location idyllic but that’s just where the story begins...

the restaurant is so big had no problem finding a table the only downfall was when we ordered our meal when a wait of three quarters of an hour before our food arrived

Been here several times but feel obliged to write a review. At the ordering till, we had service with a scowl. Partner had Gates version of Thai green curry which looked as though the chicken suffered from anaemia. This had to go back as it was salty and looked very unappetising.

I was recommended to go to Gates Garden centre for a bbq as they have a great range.

With plenty of options to cater for any dietary requirements, the food here is consistently of a high standard, and each dish can be altered ( within reason) to suit.

Went for lunch with husband and 1yr old daughter. The highchairs were all filthy I had to pick the best I could and clean off the old food stuck to the sides with baby wipes. The chairs were all covered in crumbs and stained. The food was greasy. The sachets of ketchup, mayo and mustard at the condiment station were all months out of date so makes you wonder what else they don't pay attention to. Staff friendly but service was very slow when it was very quiet. Won't be returning.

Good choice of menu with home cooked food and great service. Had the ploughman's which was delicious. My wife had quiche which was also very noice. Good choice of specials too.

This was our second visit to this garden centre - we live about 40 miles away - and we arrived about 1.45.

Lovely breakfast with a good selection. Very well priced. Will return for lunch as the menu read very well with a good selection

Friday lunchtime - 1pm - very busy. we found Table 90 (out of 100ish) and I went to order. Queue of 20+ people but with 4 ordering places I only waited 5 minutes of so. Plenty of choice on the boards and the written menu. we had cheese and cheese and ham paninis. They arrived fresh and hot (we don't do tepid 'hot' food) and with crisps and a sensible salad of lettuce, tomato and cucumber - none of those annoying bits of pepper for colour that you have to fish out. Salad was very fresh and crisp. Nice fresh crisp panini, hot enough to melt the cheese. One of the best garden cente lunches we have had. Plenty of room in the restaurant and a nice view over two small lakes and the rolling shires. Didn't notice the black swans that are usually there but did not look for them either. All told a satisfying and pleasant lunch and a reasonable price.

I travelled from London last week to visit an old friend who took me to this wonderful place for lunch. I had gammon, eggs, peas and chips which I thoroughly enjoyed and my friend had a jacket potato, salad and tuna.

I visited The Garden Restaurant with my partner yesterday for the second time as we had a very nice breakfast a while back and service seemed relatively good. This time however we both ended up extremely fed up. We decided to get the Afternoon Tea which could only be ordered between 2 and 4 o'clock and so we decided to wait in order to get this. It was very busy at this time on Sunday and so we appreciated and expected that they may have been a delay. We waited and waited for the food to show up and it never did.

Gillie the manager is a well organised and professional in charge of her lovely restaurant There were 2 beautiful log fires burning which gave the place a nice atmosphere. The array of food on offer is really good and we had scampi and hips which was delicious. But there were lots of other things on offer and amazing cakes and pastries. It all looked good. For a mid week visit the place was busy and the staff attentive and happy.

visited with a friend for lunch. Sad to see so many tables empty with used plates etc not cleared away. ( Short staffed) we decided to continue to stay and ordered lunch from a very extensive menu. Counter ordering. Staff lacked interest in the ordering process. Order came in a reasonable time and tasted nice., nothing special.

I don't know what they put in their Tikka masala but the chicken was horrible and it made me very ill. I've eaten here before and had no problems, so I trust it's a one-off - otherwise I wouldn't grace it with a second star - but I can stomach pretty much any curry, and this gave me serious problems. For part of £23.95, I was not impressed...

A good menu and well cooked tasty food. Who could ask for more ? We could. we could ask for cakes. And the cakes were lovely too !!

Mi esposa tiene múltiples alergias a los alimentos, pero la joven dama en el mostrador era muy servicial en explicar el menú, y mi esposa eligió salmón escalfado, patatas fritas y ensalada (8 libras. 95) y camomila (£1. 85), mientras que fué por un 8 onzas de carne, huevo, Sobresaliente patatas fritas y guisantes (8 libras. 95), fruta Tarta (2 libras. 99) y una pantalla blanca (£2. Café 10). El servicio fue rápido y eficiente. Mi carne era magnífica; sobresaliente la fruta Tarta de tamaño generoso, rico, oscuro y delicioso; y todo lo demás estaba bien - excepto mi blanca plana Café era bastante débil y aguado, y los dos nos pareció las patatas fritas eran demasiado seco. Si la administración puede corregir esas cosas antes de nuestra próxima visita entonces a actualizar mi clasificación general de este lugar de "muy buena" a "excelente":

He estado aquí unas cuantas veces me encanta el jardín y el restaurante es genial. El menú es variado y ofrece algo para todos, ya sea que esté después del desayuno, el almuerzo o el té de la tarde. El lugar es enorme, así que genial si como yo tienes un cochecito. Hay sillas acogedor cerca de chimeneas así como normal mesas de comedor y una fabulosa terraza en el verano. He visitado hoy y el personal encantador. Aunque estaban ocupados eran muy serviciales cuando no pude encontrar una trona para mi hijo pequeño. Totalmente recomendado - ah, y la tarta es deliciosa!

La comida aquí es excelente, y no importa hacer cola para pedir. Sin embargo, esperaba el personal en los cuatro puntos para reponer también hasta la pantalla, ayude a sus clientes a llevar la tarta a sus mesas y bandejas de realizar otras tareas que generalmente lleva lejos de sus cajas es simplemente ridículo. En un punto en un almuerzo reciente muy concurrido, con una enorme cola de clientes hambrientos, sólo dos cajas eran en realidad los pedidos de comida, el personal de las otras dos de lo contrario ocupado. Esto necesita ser mirado. Uno o dos de personal adicional para preparar bebidas calientes, y ayudar a los clientes a comprar cuando sea necesario sin hacer una gran diferencia.

I love coming here especially with my mother. The place is much improved since the development. Good quality food for a reasonable price. Sitting outside is a must when the weather is nice.

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch treat and it was amazing. This was the second time we have eaten there but first Sunday lunch. After ordering our meal it arrived within 10minutes and it was beautiful. We both had beef and although it was slices they were very nice and succulent and the vegetables were very tasty too. There was plenty of vegetables and very hot and the biggest Yorkshire puddings we have ever seen!! We will definitely be going back again for a meal as the quality was brilliant as was the service.

Situated in a fantastic nursery/garden centre. Very pleasant surroundings for lunch. Fabulous restaurant and much more than you would expect in a garden centre. Food served nice and hot to the table after a short wait. Well worth a visit.

Llamamos el domingo a las 13.30 horas, después de visitar la feria de aves en Rutland Water, cansados y necesitan descansar y comer algo. No teníamos ni idea de qué esperar, así que nos sorprendió ver el enorme parque de coches con lo que parecían ser cientos de coches aparcados. Inmediatamente pensamos que no tienen la posibilidad de conseguir una mesa.

Nos recomendaron visitar puertas Jardín por nuestro anfitrión durante su estancia en el jardín amurallado, que desde luego no me decepcionó tanto con el centro de jardín y su gama de productos, pero quedamos muy impresionados con el restaurante en el lugar. Muy limpio, muchas mesas, menú con muchas opciones, y muy buen servicio. Me quedé impresionado con la cantidad de personal, todos muy ocupados, pero muy agradable.

Decidimos tomar la familia para el almuerzo para ahorrar la molestia de cocina de la abuelita y perdiendo de la diversión. A la llegada porque éramos un grupo grande, nos llevaron a una zona separada con un montón de espacio y unas vistas preciosas. La comida era magnífica - sabroso y una gran relación calidad-precio - el personal no podría haber sido más servicial y remito a los niños pequeñitos su inevitable transgresores!

He estado aquí varias veces y nunca me ha decepcionado, la comida siempre es deliciosa, el servicio siempre es bueno... Siempre hay un montón de cosas que ver en la Tienda y centro de jardín, y l siempre la tentación de comprar algo. Bien merece una visita... Especialmente cuando las decoraciones de navidad están en exhibición...

Breakfasts, lunches & teas are all excellent with good locally sourced products & homemade cakes. Comfortable indoor seating & nice outside terrace for the better weather.

Mi marido visitó la semana pasada Gates Viveros mientras estaba fuera y me quedé sorprendido por lo mucho que este centro de jardín había cambiado desde la última vez que tuvimos hace un par de años. Los cambios fueron espectaculares. La adición de un restaurante enorme es una adición con vistas a dos lagos donde cisnes estaban disfrutando nadando, ovejas eran tumbarse y vi dos avestruces? Nos tomamos una taza de té y un pastel después de mirar toda la web. Por desgracia, las plantas que quería comprar no estaban en stock, pero había un montón de otras plantas bien de precio y atrajeron. La nueva tienda de regalos y la zona de muebles también estaba muy bueno, me podría haber pasado unas cuantas horas allí simplemente mirando todo. Voy a visitar pronto, yo diría casi olvidado lo bueno que es este lugar. Creo que es necesario para tener una comida, siempre solía disfrutar de las comidas en el restaurante antiguo, que todavía tienen abierto los domingos y festivos.

Como esta era mi primera visita a las puertas, me quedé muy impresionado por su gran tamaño, distribución, y productos de muy buena. Sin embargo, llegar al restaurante en 10.59 am nos dijeron que el desayuno acababa a las 11, así que no podría haber ninguna? 1 minutos, estoy seguro como propietario de negocio hubiera prepararon unos huevos revueltos. No desanimen pedimos algo más, pero fue recibido por un muy corto, y obviamente insatisfecho miembro del personal que nos dijo en una forma muy rápido que no podía sentarse en un área determinada si no pedir comida?? Extraño, ya que aún no había pedido. En general, un lugar muy agradable, que podría mejorarse enormemente con un poco de entrenamiento de servicio al cliente, y un ligero exigidos en las limitaciones de tiempo. En el lado de los aseos y otras partes del complejo son incomparables.

Hemos visitado las puertas de canguro en varias ocasiones en los últimos 2 años, y todavía tienen una mala comida.

Not just an amazing dining experience but also a great shopping experience. First class restaurant- cafe with super clean toilets and vistas out onto the countryside with the addition of a hand car wash on site. Everything you could wish for, well worth a visit.

Nos llaman aquí cada vez que nos visite nuestra hija y familia y nunca me ha decepcionado. Además un gran centro de jardín con extras, ahora cuenta con un restaurante muy grande que sirve una amplia variedad de comida y bebidas. Sigan así.

Had to visit Maidenhead Aquatics so it would have been rude not to have had some lunch whilst in the building :)

El nuevo restaurante es grande, está bien diseñado y es precioso. Sin embargo, el servicio no coincidía con el diseño. En vez de mesa de servicio, está diseñado como un comedor donde ir y pedir comida en un pago, es a menudo un proceso lento debido a la popularidad del restaurante. La comida es decente, pero es muy caro para este tipo de lugar.

La espera fue increíble, muchos no podíamos y a la izquierda. El método de ordenar comida realmente necesita una consideración, tal vez sea hecho esa manera de llevar la presión sobre el personal de la cocina, porque, si el proceso de pedido fue eficaz y eficiente, y el personal de la cocina sería inundado. I have been going to Gates for years during my visits back to see family and although thought the new restaurant was nice with the views and spacious seating the food is just average and the unfriendliness of the staff is off putting.

Didn't intend to eat as we were concentrating on Xmas shopping but we were tempted by the extensive menu & a recommendation. Food & service were excellent and the open surroundings made this very enjoyable.

Nosotros, yo, mi esposa y dos hijas - 6 yo y 8 mo) visitamos las puertas" Garden Centro para ver Santa. Él fue fantástico - cálido, amable, eficiente y no podía hacer más para nosotros. Después visitamos el restaurante renovado: que era enorme! La directora era increíble, el servicio fue estupendo y la comida fue excelente (jamón y huevos locales de calidad en nuestros sandwiches). La atención al detalle era perfecto - nuestras hijas les encantó la zona de juegos y las zonas de asientos estaban bien organizada, con un montón de espacio.

A lovely new restaurant within Gates Nurseries and next to the large Christmas shopping area. Tables are well spaced out and disabled are catered for. You will not be disappoinhted. Menu is good and the staff are brilliant.

Llamado para el almuerzo de domingo; el lugar estaba lleno. Cola durante media hora para pedir. Necesitan separarse q q del almuerzo de comida informal - reduciría al menos un tercio. Luego tuvimos que esperar 40 minutos para comida en aparecer. Algunos camareros no parecen saber a organizarse. La comida estaba tibia. Carne era cogidos pre-rodajas - no un asador. Patatas de asado fueron obviamente re-se calienta. Las verduras' está bien, pero ¿POR QUÉ hay que ahogo coliflor con salsa de queso cuando 1/3 de población Reino Unido queso o productos lácteos alergias? Quería decir que había que bajar hasta zanahorias y guisantes. El budín de Yorkshire, fue bueno! Pero sólo me asusto a cargo de 10 libras por esto era un timo. Dijo que el cartel a la salida "Esperamos volver a verle pronto". No hay oportunidad!!

This is a great garden centre and definitely worth a visit to their huge eatery. The afternoon tea is very tasty and pleasing on the eye and good value for money.

Mi 5ª visita y es siempre perfecto, que normalmente llega temprano y tienen un desayuno pero hoy, tuve el domingo asado, carne asada y patatas, patacas chirivías, Yorkshire pudding, guisantes, zanahorias y coliflor queso.

Nuestros amigos, que nunca había estado puertas antes, había leek y sopa de patata y mi esposa y yo tuvimos el jamón, huevos y patatas fritas. Bien cocinado y amplio en contenido [había tres capas de jamón] así que quedamos contentos con nuestras opciones. Es un largo camino hasta el restaurante y la forma recomendada por las señales no es la más fácil a algunas personas ya que te lleva a la salida del restaurante de primera. No se olvide de admirar las fotos antiguas de canguro como entrar y la vista desde las ventanas si tuve suerte de conseguir una mesa con vistas a la campiña.
