Easter Friday was a busy day, but this is a large restaurant and I found a nice table in the conservatory looking out onto the trees and bird feeders. It's great to be able to watch the blue tits, sparrows, blackbirds and other birds while having a meal. I bought a pork and leek sausage roll which was huge, along with a side salad and small pot of chutney. The pastry was flaky, the pork was tasty and I really enjoyed it along with the chutney. My pot of tea was a decent size and I can only say that I had a lovely brunch here and will be back again.

1 tea, 1 flat white, 2 salmon and cream cheese ciabatta (without the cream cheese) =£25.55. The tea and coffee was nice, but the ciabatta was stale and dry with little salmon and lots and lots of thickly sliced cucumber. No spread of any kind to relieve the lack of cream cheese. The side salad was thickly coated in some kind of yucky dressing. It was very noisy in the cafe with not enough room between tables. Next time we're passing, that's exactly what we'll do.

Be nice if the actual check out staff could engage a little and crack a smile or two, they almost all ways look miserable. Maybe you could have a national garden center smile day or simpler some very basic front out house customer training other garden centers in Dumfries seem to manage it

Don't know what's happened but this used to be a very pleasant restaurant with a good choice of hot meals for all tastes. Arrived on Saturday to find it queued out the door with one lady writing down orders for food, then keying it into the till, then walking to the server hatch and moving on to help her colleague make drinks for orders. Seems a very time-consuming process. Surely there are till systems in place where orders are sent from till to kitchen in one-step without all of the above. Secondly, being lunchtime, you expect to have a good choice of hot meals available, fish teas are a favourite but not here. Sold out and only chilli and hot fill sandwiches available for exorbitant prices. Very laborious process in dining here too. You get a table, sit and peruse menu at the endless choice of fill sandwiches/drinks, note your table number then go up to counter queue for ages, order, pay then sit and wait upto 20mins for any food you do order (if its available in first place). Hot food like fish teas etc are not on the printed menu - only on a blackboard at the main entrance - and by the time you faffed about/queued, it's no wonder they sell out! Won't be returning.

Stopped on the way through for lunch when driving up to Scotland The restaurant was clean & nicely decorated. It looked like they had plenty of choice of hit & cold food. Food order was taken by a staff member while queuing and advised it may take approximately 20 mins. We ordered a beef & onion baguette and a coronation chicken baguette and hot drinks. Our drinks were made but found the lady on the till very abrupt with the other staff which wasn't good to see. Food didn't take as long and arrived quickly. Food was ok nothing special the beef & onion baguette came with a jig of gravy but it want very good gravy. A little over priced for food but we'd driven a long way & needed a break & something to eat & drink !

We come to the garden centre a lot and thought we would nip into the cafe, we wish we hadn’t of bothered!! Don’t bother getting any of the scones as takeaway as it’s still the same price as sitting in but without the jam or butter. Scones were so dry that unfortunately they weren’t edible. Extremely overpriced as well. For a Sunday afternoon that used to be absolutely heaving there were only 6/7 tables in!

Have tried their revamped cafe twice now as I often visit the garden centre. Have been disappointed both times. For some reason portion size has gone ridiculously huge. Not sure what the reasoning is behind this, but huge scones, cakes etc are just off putting unless you are prepared to share. Have both times had the soup and both times been disappointed. Soup tastes like it comes from a catering pack and not freshly made. I really don't see the point of the 3 little glass jars that accompany the soup with fried onions, croutons and some fried green stuff in them. They add nothing to an already poor tasting soup and no doubt put the cost up. Just concentrate on making a good quality fresh soup? Prices are pretty high too. We won't be eating there again. It's a shame because they are missing out on a lot if business.

After a walk around the garden centre, we treated ourselves to lunch and were not disappointed. The avocado and humous baguette was delicious with a side salad, very well presented and great value! Being piglets, we had a side of potato wedges- wow they were huge but again delicious. Not realising the size of our ‘mains’ we had bought chocolate eclairs, an absolutely perfect way to finish our meal with a coffee. The staff were very polite, offering alternatives although very busy. Looking on every customer was served as an individual with the staff caring to ensure their requests were met. Definitely worth a re-visit in the near future (if my husband has anything to do with it)!

On arrival noticed the change in layout and immediately thought change in both appearance and price, thus apprehensive. Took the chance and left feeling impressed with the new layout, choice of food and the customer service made available. Customer flow was impressive and even though it was busy the customer flow rate through the till and delivery of food met my expectations with tables being cleared leading to table being made free and not one customer was left having to wait.

Oh no...I'm so sad to write this, as Gardenwise is a lovely garden centre which i have always enjoyed a good mosey around. Cafe was always very popular and food was reliable and tasty. Delicious toasties and paninis , cooked meals, quiche and marlenes scones were the best. Not sure what has happened: firstly, the table arrangements...used to like sitting at the window looking out, but they've moved things about. Then the lack of pictures/plants. The air conditioning..brrrr. The awful muzak playing....thankfully, the staff appreciated how loud and awful it was too and obliged the customers and switched it off!! The portions...far too big...the scones and cakes are massive...its ridiculous. Breakfast...Nice.. but have tad to wait over 20mins...hot drinks are cold by time food arrives. Please go back to your old style if food!!! It was lovely.

Completely ignored by two other staff members who were more interested in filling the displays. Eventually hubby interrupted one of them and asked for two drinks and two breakfasts. Breakfast took 20 minutes to arrive, by which time we had finished our hot drinks. Food ok but bacon very tough and beans luke warm. Would not recommend.

Visited 11 May. Café was not busy. Asked for a menu. Told it was unavailable as items limited due to Covid situation. Understandable. Waitress said we could look online in App and book or she would deal with order. No mention of prices. After waitress rhymed off the menu, we placed order for two rounds sandwiches, one Coffee, one tea with bowl of chips. Told chips came as standard with sandwiches. No mention that we would have a long wait. Total Bill nearly £25. This would almost have covered a pub meal!Drinks came very quickly. All drunk before snacks arrived some 30 minutes later. No apology for wait. I asked for top up goodwill coffee for elderly husband to have with snack and indicated my concern to young male waiter my feelings about long wait. He appeared unsure of what to do. He indicated that there were ‘issues’ in the kitchen. Has no one complained before? Anyway kitchen issues were not my problem. However after speaking to a cafe staff member he informed me that we would need to pay for a further coffee. I refused on principle. The chips that came with the sandwiches were in a tiny basket. They were cool and there were few. By this time I had lost the will to live and decided against complaining about the chips.Prior to lunch we had browsed the nursery for plants for a new garden we are landscaping. The intention was to return there to place the order. Our experience in the cafe however put us off doing this.We then visited a busy Heathall Garden Centre nearby where we spent £180 on plants. Staff very helpful and pleasant. In the past we have visited Garden Wise on many occasions. I have always been happy with service. I would not recommend it now. The prices (after perusing online) at home) are high if you only want a sandwich. Perhaps I should have enquired re cost of sandwiches. (Which incidentally came with salad trimmings and coleslaw - a fact not passed on to us at order stage). However one should not be placed in such a position. We should have been offered a menu (despite it being trimmed due to Covid).Garden Wise lost my plant order as a result of our experience in the cafe. This is not a good look for a previously excellent venue for snacks.

We chose cream teas as we weren't able to view cakes from entrance where we were met by staff, then shown to table each table has its own food drop off table alongside. Not forced into the phone scenario of some places that's a bonus for us being respectful that not everyone wants to do technology. The menu was fairly small in choices but good meals on offer. Spotlessly clean and lovely patient staff in all a good tasty experience, let's face it some eateries fall short on things as simple as a humble scone, not here though. Well done staff it can't be fun repeating the whole rigmarole to every customer yet still you remained efficient and friendly.

I used to really enjoy the food here, however, after my visit last week I was really disappointed. To begin with, I wanted a bacon roll but they didn’t have that so I ordered a tea and a toasted tea cake. The tea cake resembled a dried up piece of cardboard, which was almost indigestible. I could not use my phone to order and pay so I took the till slips to the counter and paid. As I was wandering round the shop I was accosted by a member of staff asking me if I had paid! I returned later on in the day and decided on the macaroni cheese which came with salad and a piece of baked bread. The mac cheese was dried up, the salad was limp and the small portion of coleslaw was completely tasteless. The baked bread was part cooked and came with one portion of butter. I had paid at the counter before I got my food this time and said I hoped I wasn’t pounced on again like the last time. The waitress came up to me at the table mumbling some form of an apology for the confusion with my first visit. I thought it was maybe me being very tired after driving to the hospital for my husbands operation but I can see I’m not alone in my opinion of the food at this establishment. I didn’t realise that the business had changed hands. I will not be returning unless the standards drastically improve.

Whilst I appreciate the efforts being made during CoVid-19 restrictions, there is simply no excuse for terrible, overpriced food, and poor service. Our waitress appeared confused by the handheld order input system and this proved true when the wrong food was delivered, changed but with us as the customers needing to draw her attention to the error and the price differential in our favour. This was sorted with the error refunded and no charge made for the replacement but it was an unnecessary interruption to our lunch. As for the Cheese Toastie, quite simply it was revolting - crude, untoasted and not well cooked at all - just three doorsteps of bread with some cheese rammed between each slice at around £8. No tomato sauce, salt or pepper offered.

My sister insisted we came here for her birthday lunch... despite me trying to get her to go elsewhere. Her choice. Was a palaver trying to book online but managed to get 11.30 lunch slot for 4. Then we were told full menu wasn’t available until 12. Ridiculous. Only light bites available between breakfast and full lunch menu??? Why doesn’t it say that when you book online???? Anyways, persuaded the delightful Lyndsay (waitress) we would just have drinks until full menu became available. I had the cheese and onion quiche, Sis the steak pie, hubby the burger and brother in law the curry chicken breast. My quiche was delicious, paltry amount of salad with it, and why bread and butter?? Hubby’s burger was tough and dry, Sis’s steak in her pie was too salty. Think bro in law got the best deal with his chicken curry!! Ordered a pavlova for Sis and hot chocolate fudge cake for bro in law , and a portion for hubby and I to share. Thank goodness the cafe is part of the government scheme ‘eat out to help out’. We paid half price for the meals which I think was a fair price for what we had. Sis’s pavlova was one meringue shell with some fruit on top and some whipped cream at the side. For £4.80? The dearest dessert on the menu?? Can’t fault the waitress service. That was exemplary. But the food is average. So much better at nearby Kilnford Barns and elsewhere.

Came here for a light bite to eat and a look around the garden centre. It has the usual good gift departments clothing and plants etc. I felt some things were a little overpriced. Having purchased a roll and drink. We then have to clear two trays off the table in the conservatory to place our own one down. There was a lot of discarded trays and cups etc with no staff attempting to clear any tables. They are clearly needing a new cleaner as in each corner of the windowsills there is a clear line of dust they obviously do not move any seating within. I did not go looking for this. The photograph is taken from my seat i was sat upon.

Most staff in the plant sections are downright ignorant and need a course on customer service skills. They come across as arrogant and far too important to be bothered with the ‘plebs’ who are ‘bothering’ them for information. It’s not them all but most.

I met my elderly father here and my sister. The coffee- latte was from a machine (not a proper coffee set up) , we had to wait for two customers before us- over 5 mins for a coffee... then it was not very hot and not that great tasting. My father had a fresh scone but it was far too crumbly and fell to pieces. I expected coffee and scones to be good as this place seems busy at coffee time... but very disappointed, we won`t be back.

The old staff in here are incredibly rude and condescending. The young staff are attentive and friendly but often, in front of customers, on the receiving end from their older colleagues. The good things about this place are the small park for kids, toys to play with and plentiful seating. The bad are the old staff, poor food and coffee and excessive prices. Much better options elsewhere for a decent coffee/cake.

This is a review for the last 3 times we have eaten here over the last 2 weeks. My grandkids absolutely love the place because they have a good children’s menu, a friendly environment and a small play area outside as well as a selection of toys inside if the weather is bad.

We dropped in at around 2pm hoping to have a hot meal and then look around this award winning garden centre, however lunch is from 12pm to 2pm and then its afternoon tea. A large dining area with plenty of seating. The centre has an unusually wide range of stock items and the plants are very well looked after. Plenty of parking and everything is clean, tidy and well maintained.

Just called in this cafe as we were passing, garden centres usually have good cafes, nice food and good value for money, how wrong was I. I ordered two ham sandwiches, they consisted of 2 rounds of bread buttered on one side only, and one slice of the thinnest ham I have ever seen. To add insult to my njury they charged over £4 per sandwich.

Visited this garden centre today for lunch. I had the roast beef lunch totally delicious and plentiful. Scott and Jessie had the Spanish quiche and vegs, again it was delicious and a very good sized portion. They both had a dessert which looked and tasted amazing. Staff was helpful and pleasant. The Garden centre is great and sells a huge variety of things - a place where you could spend a whole afternoon. I bought a lovely spinning double helix and Alaister thank you for getting me the colour I wanted - very helpful. I would recommend a visit.

We had travelled from Bangor, Co Down on the Belfast/Cairnryan ferry and were ready for lunch. The garden centre was convenient and so we thought it was worth a try. The cafe serves lunches at noon on the dot. The dishes are unfurled with a great flourish. My wife had a curry - the sauce tasted like an inferior Homepride version and the rice was like a Bachelors savoury packet. My stew was fine but very much school lunch level. The cost of the two meals, a coffee and a sparkling water was £25. Even £15 would have been steep. Won't be back.

This place is horrendously over priced and I've had better school dinners. £1.35 extra for the smallest of portions of veg and not far off £5 for soup & a morning roll. My advice would be to head straight on past to Kilnford just down the road. Won't return.

I really like this place as a garden center but as an eating place no thanks. On our way on a long walk to Kilnford restaurant when we were caught in some prolonged rain showers so we cut our losses and decided to eat at Gardenwise . What a huge mistake, my wife had a small bowl of soup,I had a Panini with Cranberry,Bacon and Brie, plus two cups of coffee. Bill - £16 , the panini had an infinitesimal amount of Brie,I literally had to search for it,the bacon was in small chunks and I mean small, must have been half a jar of Cranberry on the panini - all for £6.20p. My wife's soup about half an inch on the bottom of the plate. Will certainly never have a meal here again.

We are keen gardeners and are frequent visitors to the garden centre for plant & shrub purchases. We usually have a bacon sandwich, fruit scones & coffee/tea.On this occasion I was on my own & decided to have a hot dish. The selection was poor. The presentation of the food unappetising. I chose a jacket potato with mince & vegetables. And a Diet Coke. The vegetables were overcooked & no thought was given to the presentation of the dish. I was dashing to another appointment or I would have complained immediately. I emailed the Managing Director & was told the cafe manager would respond to me on her return to work on Monday. 10 days later I'm still waiting on a response!!

Visited today with a friend for a lunchtime treat. Great selection of hot foods. We chose toasties which were pre-made sandwiches and worked for us however I could see it being a problem for customers wish for a specific filling. There did not appear any menus to advise on different fillings. There was a great selection of cakes and tray bakes which were a must to have.
