Ganges in Angus

Had a fab Sunday dinner, nicely attentive staff and manager. The menu had the classics as well as many other different styles. The food and drink prices were very fair. Unfortunately it is a wee bit off the main road, albeit in the middle of the town.

Fantastic restaurant, was recommended by a friend and didn’t disappoint. The food was amazing and the service was first class, we were made feel really welcome and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive, I even got a piece of biscoff Cheese cake on the house for my birthday! Would highly recommend this wee gem of a place to anyone 👍👍

We had a beautiful dinner at the Ganges! The food was delicious and the service was 5 star. My husband ordered the Vindaloo and was very happy. The other vindaloos he has had were not as spicy and as good as this one! We will definitely be back. The best authentic Indian food in the UK and USA we’ve had in 20 years! Thank you!

My husband and I went here for dinner after a friend recommended it and we will definitely be back. Food was amazing. We both had starters and mains and shared a naan bread. All the food was delicious and we were very full afterwards. Staff were lovely and very attentive. We went on a Tuesday night and it was very busy with a lot of take aways going out but service was still very good. Having had it recommended to us we will be recommending to others.

Wonderful meal the Ganges restaurant last night. Not one to normally write a review but found this wee gem of a place. Food and service was excellent. Very tasty starter and main meal. What a shame. This place was recommended to me and I can see many glowing reviews, so maybe I was just unlucky but the main dish i had simply was not what it said on the menu and clearly whoever was cooking it didn't really know what it was meant to be! Green herb chicken is not common and so it was great to find it on the menu...and the description was just what I would expect: coriander, mint, methi, garlic, ginger, not really hot at all but punchy with herbs and a "touch" of yogurt. However what i got was sickly sweet and cloying extremely "creamy" korma with some coriander in it. I did query it and the waiter clearly was not at all familiar with the dish so asked what I woudl like instead..I said I'd like the dish on the menu and so it was taken away and came back with a bit more coriander, a hint of mint, huge amount of spring onion and far too much chilli! So it was virtually indedibly hot. In the end I quietly said that it was not at all acceptable and I couldn't eat it...but they still tried, initially, to charge for it all. I simply said that I would pay for half of the main course only and so the bill was taken away and changed and in the end they knocked it all off the bill. And it is a shame because the staff were actually very nice and trying to be helpful, plus the naan bread was excellent (which I made sure to tell them!) but the fact that no-one seemed to recognise that the dish was a complete disaster does ring alarm bells about what is going on in the kitchen, and this is not a cheap restaurant...

Small but tastefully decorated, I got a table of 3 booked with no hassle Service was OK thought the younger of the 2 ladies working looked a bit like she couldn't be bothered being there We had startes, mains and sweets I'm afraid I don't share the same opinion of some other reviews on here I thought the Jumbo king Prawn Tandoori lacked taste, and the sag gosht could have done with more Sag in it, poor and mix Tandoori platter were very nice Overall, it was pleasant but a little pricey

Ok, there are hidden gems and there are nuggets of gold. Simply this is the best Indian subcontinent restaurant I have been to. All the food is cooked fresh and the staff are friendly s as he attentive. Strange that it is in Carnoustie. If it were in Edinburgh, people would be raving. The secret is now out!!!! Get in there!!!!

Best foodie Indian that I have had for a long, long time. Very tasty food. Great menu. Great decor, Great service. If you ever venture to Carnoustie and are looking for great Indian food look no further than the Ganges. From the outside it may well look nothing but step inside and experience all the above.

Superb ! Wow!! What a fabulous restaurant. The quality of the food, aromas from the natural spices , food options was fantastic too many nice things on the menu! There was ample wines and spirits to select from, beautiful ambience and tables well sanitized after each patron. One of the parties had a gluten allergy and the team at Ganges diligently ensured everything was perfect and so too it was !! Carnoustie is so lucky to have such a fantastic restaurant & takeaway!! The food was so good that we went back a second night during our visit to Scotland. Wishing you continued success so deserved !!!

Have ordered from here on a number of occasions. Average wait around 2/3 hours for food despite being told it will take an hour max. When you call to query the whereabouts of your order they will blame it on the delivery drivers...Don't order from here unless you are happy to wait for 2+ hours after the advised delivery time.Will be ordering from elsewhere in the future.

Had a takeaway Lamb Tikka Masala tonight at Ganges. It was awful. The sauce had no taste to it and it was like pureed liquid and the lamb was hard and very chewy.The garlic Nan had no taste of garlic and was burnt. It is one of the worst meals I have had in a long time and I definitely will not be going back. My husband and I were told it was a very good Indian Restaurant, but for us it was terrible.

We ordered 4 meals on Saturday 25 July and were told 75 minutes for delivery. After 2 hours (120 minutes) we called Ganges to be told the food would be with us in a further 25 minutes. They never even took my number name or address so how did they know?? However benefit of doubt and surprise surprise 45 minutes passed, we tried calling Ganges back unsuccessfully, so ordered food from somewhere else. It came in 40 minutes by which time Ganges still had not delivered. When it did arrive we refused the food (4 hours wait time for meal is unacceptable) Wont be recommending them to anyone or will i ever use them again as their customer and delivery service is appalling!!!!.

Re visited this lovely restaurant on Sunday evening and were not disappointed. The food was amazing and freshly cooked. Also the staff are very friendly and welcoming. It's a must for us to have a meal at Ganges whenever we visit the Carnoustie area 10/10

We have eaten here several times and it’s always great food and service.Due to Covid lockdown I ordered several takeaways last month and froze them as we live approx 30 miles away, the curry’s were great and well worth the 45 minute drive..we had a selection of curry’s including 4 lamb tikka chilli balti’s all extra hot, absolutely delicious and potentially addictive if your a curry lover like me. I really rate this curry house and have no hesitation in recommending it. Hopefully the the Covid restrictions will be lifted soon and the sit in service will be open again...

Having read some of the reviews we were somewhat 'cautious' but decided to jump in and dine at the Ganges restaurant. Previous (exhaustive list) experiences of many curry houses was that they were poorly lit (I like to see what might kill me) so when we entered I was very pleasently surprised that not only could I see where I was going, or what I was about to fall over, it was also very nicely decorated - lovely wall coverings, nice and clean all round. All of which made our group relaxed and ready to enjoy our evening meal in a very pleasent atmosphere.Our Hostess, a lovely, friendly local lass, was a joy to be served by. Very attentitive and helpful in assisting us find our way through the menus provided, and also really enjoying her role in making patrons experience one to remember. I did not get her name, but I think she was the only Scots lass working that evening. 'Hi to you'.HOLD ONTO HER as she is worth her weight in hard earned profits. Other members of the serving team were also working to a very high standard - Well done to you all.An amazing menu with a few meal options to choose from - all lipsmackingly good to read, so our selection had many good alternatives to stand up against.We ordered our food and it duly arrived - no delays here, great timing, and what we were met with was simply 'amazing'. First time customer of this establishment. Ordered my food online directly on the restaurant website at 4.30pm as the website allows advanced orders. I paid for the order at the same time and was given a delivery time of 6.05pm. Food did not arrive at time stated so phoned the restaurant at 6.15pm to get an update. I was told it was on its way and would be with me shortly. Half an hour later the food had still not arrived. Phoned again at 6.53pm to be told that the last person I spoke to had given me wrong information but my food had now left and was on the way. I live less than a 10 min drive away so expected my food to arrive fairly soon. By 7.23pm the order had still not arrived. Phoned again to be told the driver was 3 minutes away and would give me some free poppadoms to make up for my order being late. The food eventually arrived at 7.35pm. An hour and a half late. The lamb tikka masala and pilau rice I ordered was lukewarm. The lamb was tough and chewy. The sauce was thin and overly sweet. The naan bread was stodgy. Very mediocre food at best and not especially cheap either. Expensive for the quality. The fact that it was so late and I was lied to several times means it is highly unlikely I would use this place again and would certainly not recommend it.

My husband called Ganges on the 22nd of January to book for yesterday evening at 8pm. Ganges did not have our booking but said to come along for 8.15 and they would squeeze us in. We were seated at 8pm and our poppadoms arrived quickly. However, our mixed starter for 2 did not arrive until 8.55pm. It was busy so we could tell there would be a wait but 55 minutes for our starter was very long. For our mains we ordered the tandoori garlic chicken tikka and a green herb chicken plus a Peshawari naan to share and some rice for my husband. There was so much food that we couldn’t finish it all but it was absolutely delicious. We both had 2 pints of beer each and the bill was a little under £70. For the amount and quality of food given this was very reasonable. We would return but maybe share a main dish.If we had to list a con then the only thing would be that one waiter seemed to be quite rude towards customers as more than once I spotted him tutting at customers as they were standing next to their table. Rather than asking us to move things on the table so he could place dishes down he would just stare at people and hover over them until they moved stuff. The other waiters and the waitress were lovely though. Maybe a quiet word with this gentleman.

This review is based purely on the delivery! Haven’t received the food yet. Ordered at 1/2 5, to be delivered at 7 o’clock. It’s now 8 o’clock , still no food despite 3 phone calls. Very poor service.
