Frydays in East Riding of Yorkshire

Batter wasn't pleasant at all on the fish, over cooked and terribly greasy, battered sausage soggy and anemic. Not alot of chips, first time trying and won't return

I’ve never been one for complaining, however my husband has just brought home what can only be described as the worst fish and chips I’ve ever seen or smelt! Batter on the fish, over cooked and smelt burnt, hardly no batter on one side, due to your oil been to hot and you could also smell the oil, so obviously that needs changing! Needless to say the full order has gone in the bin!!!!!!!

Just got fish n chips from Fridays, Anlaby. Chips ok but fish a joke. All scrappy batter no fish, must be very good at slicing fish so thin ! Used this chippy for years, did think quality was hit and miss recently. Won’t be going ever again.

WENT HERE ON A SUNDAY EVENING, ORDERED 2 LARGE HADDOCK AND AS THERE WERE NO COOKED FISH IN THE CABINET I ASSUMED THEY WOULD BE FRESHLY BATTERED AND COOKED BUT JUST 4 MINS LATER THEY WERE READY SO CAN ONLY ASSUME THEY HAD SOME PRE-COOKED AND JUST PUT THEM BACK IN THE FRYER FOR A FEW MINS. TASTED ABSOLUTELY AWFUL, BATTER WAS THIN, OVERDONE AND MUSHY, CHIPS WERE ALSO TASTELESS AND BEANS WERE STONE COLD, I HAD TO PUT THEM IN THE MICROWAVE WHEN WE GOT HOME. I WOULD HAVE RATHER WAITED 10+ MINS TO HAVE FRESHLY COOKED FISH NOT REHEATED FISH. I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY CAN CHARGE NEARLY £20 FOR SUCH POOR QUALITY FOOD. IT’S NOT LIKE WE GOT THERE JUST BEFORE CLOSING, IT WAS 6.15 AND THEY DIDN’T CLOSE TIL 9. WE WILL NOT BE GOING THERE AGAIN AND IF YOU WANT GOOD FISH & CHIPS I SUGGEST YOU DON’T GO THERE EITHER!

The best in the area, authentic taste, great batter which is crispy and full of flavour. Mushy peas have a nice bite to them not just mushy. Would definitely recommend this fish shop.

This used to be our regular place for fish and chips until we went for a change. After a disappointing experience elsewhere we decided to give here a try again. We were definitely not disappointed, the fish was cooked to order, lovely and fresh with a crisp golden batter. Chips were delicious and the mushy peas were some of the best I've tasted. This will be our regular from now on.

XMAS SPECIAL, we were in already festive season mood,thought go for shopping firstly, then get every one fish and chips for dinner. Well we were not disappointed lovely food which makes everyone happy. Thanks everyone and happy Xmas everyone.

Chips were greasy and cold, obviously been sat there a while. Patties were cooked hours before. No crispness to any of the batter which was very thin and greasy. The fish didn’t taste of haddock at all. The only thing I’ve had similar was a frozen one, completely tasteless. This used to be a great chippy. All of it was a waste as it went in the bin. Cold food that has been left for ages is not conducive to good practice. Very, very disappointing. The only good thing I can say, is the place looked clean. Won’t be returning.

Just had haddock and chips. Neither my husband or I dared eat the fish. The batter was like concrete and the fish was tasteless and insipid. Usually use Woody’s which is perfect every time but it was closed today. It went in the bin!!

The food from this shop is always delicious, i wouldnt use any other. The staff are always very friendly and well mannered. There is often a que but not usually waiting long. Will recommend. See for yourself!

Had battered sausage and chips tonight from this place, it was awful, Chips were undercooked and soggy and tasted of oil, the battered sausage was so greasy and undercooked the sausage was just cooked, didn’t want to eat this rubbish, it was so bad the worst chippy I’ve ever been to, needless to say l won’t be back

3 fish and chips which were greasy and over cooked, chips looked and tasted 3 days old. All 3 wasted and not eaten and straight in the bin! Do yourselves a favour and go to Papas or Thompson’s.

Wow… it’s takes a lot to put me off eating fish and chips - in fact a hell of a lot. But today Frydays in Anlaby did just that. I can’t honestly remember tasting and eating such revolting food. You decide from the pictures but it looked better in the photos than it tasted!! Every item was simply disgusting, The fish was cooked to order but greasy, grey and awful. The peas instead of mushy were like little rock marbles… The chips looked like they’d been in the fryer all day, scarps of potatoes burnt and bad…Everything overcooked. Check out the photos and make your own mind up ?! I won’t be going back, A shame as they are seem nice friendly people.

I've tried many chippys that cook in vegetable oil but they just don't know how to get it right, always use frydays proper fish n chips, great customer service👍

Never had a negative experience. Just the best. Even better than Cave street. You will not be disappointed.

When returning visit from Humber bridge popped in Fridays. 4 adults couldn’t finished 3 large haddock in between us.they cooked and buttered nicely. Usually you soggy inside but even the large ones cooked nicely. We will return deffo. Keep up the nice work. Thanks again

On entry they ask if you want fish if there is only a few in the heater,staff are very polite always wiping down the tops . The fish shop is always clean

We use 'Frydays' very often as the weeks treat for Fish&Chips. The medium size fish can be 'whale size' so be be warned. The crispy batter coupled with it's unique taste is exceptional. Highly recommended.

I certainly rate it the No.1 chippy in Hull. Well established. Polite staff. It's a must visit. The batter is crisp and tasty. If you can get there recipe, please forward to me.

Best fish and chips ever. We never go anywhere else. Always prompt freshly ordered and good service. They fry in vegetable oil which suits us perfectly. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Try it,its great !

This place is usually excellent, not this time. The fish was over cooked and dry with a under taste of patty herbs. The chips were averaged and not tasty, a definite let down

We visit Frydays every month, or so. Never disappointed; good quality food, served hot & fresh. The owners and staff are lovely, too. Highly recommend.

Much prefare Frydays for Fish and Chips.Nice staff, quality fish and for me the best batter in the area , nice and crisp, still crisp when you get home theres nothing werse than whipping open your fish and chips only to find its gone sloppy. Oh and they let the chips cook there not anemic.!!..... CRACKIN CHIPPY!!

Well you can't compare it with top fish and chips that you had before when you consider its price. This one tastes different and the people there are very friendly and kind and I love the taste and texture. It is good lets be honest.

Never disappointed with Friday's, always great food, the patties are excellent, staff always friendly the fish batter is crispy, I have tried most of the other fried fish and chip shops in the area but now only use Fridays. Well done guys, keep it up.

Fridays have been in Anlaby a long time now and the quality is always good. There is wide choice of food available but anyone ordering a large fish must be absolutely starving otherwise they will not finish it. Would we go again? Yes

Another great takeaway from here last Friday night. Kids have fish specials, which are just the right size for them. Obviously the adults are greedy and had large haddock & chips, peas and gravy. So good! See you next week.

Very helpful, friendly staff. The quality of the fish has always been good and they can 'almost' cook chips - which is more than I can say for a lot of fish and chip shops.My only negative is that it is generally very greasy - watch you clothes, and your waist-line!

A great family chippy with excellent quality food and great value for money. I have never been disappointed with anything from here. Chips well cooked with a nice choice of fish including fish specials for the kids or less hungry. Great patties and sausages too. Give it a try, well worth a visit.

Went to frydays new years eve as woodys was shut. Got one large and 2 medium fish and chips. The 2 medium were ok the large was poor . It looked big but mostly batter .they must of known it was going to be thin when they put it in the fryer. There's a lot of competition in anlaby so need to improve. Will try again but wouldn't be my first choice

Won't go anywhere else, the best in the area. Their Spam Fritter is A* and their Gravy is the best!!

There are too many fish and chip shops in too small an area but the queue on Thursday is testimony to how good this place is. The quality never falters the haddock and chips were fresh from the fryer and delicious. Never disappoints.

I travel miles to get food from here. Top class fish and chips in huge portions - also try the patties - they are the best I have ever tasted. Its not cheap here but its very good and is certainly value for money. Don't have a large fish unless you are very hungry indeed!

We don't do takeaways, but Frydays is our one indulgence.The fish is always fresh and beautifully cooked. The portion sizes are very generous. Without doubt the best fish and chips we have ever had anywhere in England

Popped here whilst on holiday nearby and I can honestly say they were the best we've had. I had pie and chips and the hubby had battered sausage and chips and they were amazing. Not greasy like most others. Deffo visit again if nearby.

After travelling down to visit family, we called in for a takeaway.Really tasty fish, and excellent chips. Excellent portion sizes as well.

We moved to Anlaby recently & Frydays is now our local chippy. So we went for tea tonight. So glad we did! Fish & Chip Special: (small haddock & chips)£3.20. Great sized fish; super crispy batter. Meaty haddock. Yum.Pattie - massive! 80p. Lovely texture, tasty & crispy batter.Large battered sausage £1.00. Gorgeous Mushy peas - think they were 80p. Standard peas :) Two of us shared the above and there was plenty of it.The staff are so friendly too. We will definitely be regulars here!!

Came for tea after weekly shopping trip. Excellent fish and chips friendly polite staff quick service what more could you ask for. Will definitely return highly recommend.

Although there are several fish and chips shops in the area we always get our meals from here. The fish is always excellent and all sizes are larger than you expect.

Staff so friendly and speedy quick service even when there's a big queue. Best batter and really substantial portions. Great value.

Had Fish and Chips from here on Saturday as was busy moving house... We wanted a quick tea and I really fancied Fish and Chips. I have been to Fields loads and often past Fry days promising myself that 1 day I will treat myself to Fish and chips from here... Well we did and it was blooming gorgeous... the fish was huge and was big, white, chunky flakes of succulent fish! Had Fish and chips at Papas in willerby few weeks back and it was dry and minging and mega overly priced... Fry days was absolutely delicious soooooooooooo pleased that I have finally found a fantastic fish shop. Can't wait to eat from here again... The staff was amazing too and really friendly ☺

Although i have moved out of the immediate area i always come to Frydays for our fish and chips, the fish is excellent - the large fish is enormous ! Chips always lovely. Everyhting we have tried has been good although we tend to stick with the fish. Staff always friendly, they get to know you and put a fish in to fry without being asked.

We stopped here one Friday teatime on the spur of the moment. We got take-away fish and chips to take home with us. The quality of the fish, batter and chips was excellent, not greasy and was very tasty. I would return again.

There are three fish and chip shops within yards of each other in Anlaby. This is by far the best in terms of taste, price, quality and quantity.

It's a great chippy. Friendly staff. Lovely batter on a LARGE fish and when they say large it's huge. Portion sizes are generous. Chips are perfectly cooked soft and fluffy on the inside. Always made to feel welcome!

Wow what a meal and so tasty great little chippy and i used to run a chippy so should know food cooked to perfection with the added bonus of chip spice mmmmmm the family loved it deffo the best chippy in hull well done.

Tried many chippies in Hull and surrounding areas and always return to Frydays because I know that I'll enjoy it. The fish are huge (and I mean massive!) and portion sizes are well worth the money. With a fussy child (the other two will eat anything) who I've had to drive to McDonald's whilst we're having a takeaway because she hates everything), the chicken nuggets at Frydays are her absolute favourites and we can all eat the same thing. A wonderful rarity! It's not the cheapest chippy around but it's by far the best quality and value for money. Definitely recommend!

We had a spot of lunch here and it is an excellent chippy!The only reason I gave 4 and not 5 stars is cos, well, it's a chippy!The fish they serve is very fresh and perfectly cooked (well, deep-fried!) and if you are not from the area, try a Pattie! It's deep fried mashed potato and herbs and it is surprisingly delicious. I'm lead to believe it goes well in a bread roll; a Pattie butty.If you are looking for a good place to get fish and chips, look into further.... FryDays is the best in the area.

Everytime ive eaten here I've always had fish,chips and peas and it has alway been of a high quality that ive never had a reason to complain or moan about anything.The staff have always been really friendly and efficient.Frydays is worth a few mile drive as the food is really nice and enjoyable.Will visit again and would recommend.

We always go to Frydays in Anlaby as it is the very best but decided to test this by buying from another chain of fish shops in Anlaby.No discussion - Frydays is the best - sorry - we won't leave you again.

There are many fish and chip shops in the area but I like this one best. The food is made to order and the batter is superbly crispy. The portions are very generous. We eat at one of the tables inside the shop ad the food is served on plates with the usual condiments for no extra charge.

Coming from the Hessle road fishing community I am one of the most critical people that eats fish and chips on a regular basis! I have to say that high quality consistency is the one factor that brings me back to this fish and chip shop, they never disappoint me. Their Haddock is snow white and very tasty with lovely crispy batter. I always ask for a large one with a few scraps. Lovely jubbley!! First rate!!

Called in to the Frydays fish and chip chop, in Anlaby, last Friday,Fish and chips were fantastic. Honestly, the fish was massive, the chips were crispy and the staff/service was spot on.It's easy to rave about your favourite place to eat, but this "plaice" is the best chippy out there!

Being from a seaside town I have high standards about fish and chips and frydays never let me down. We drive about 15 mins out of way to get their food and eat it in the car rather than going somewhere closer to home.The staff are lovely, the service efficient and the food hot and tasty. They have an extensive menu and open late.

Anlaby has three fish and chip shops but this best for takeout by far. Busy on Fridays and Bank Holidays, Fried in veg oil , 3 sizes of haddock, Skinless available, Quite large chip portions....we have one for two of us.. Highly recommended.

We went here because our usual was closed, the food was ok, did the job but was a bit of a let down after reading all the great reviews.

We have had Fish & Chips at Frydays several times and it is always consistently of good quality. The fish is always fresh and the batter is delicious. The chips are proper fish shop chips. Would recommend to all.

I have recently moved to the area with my husband and I have tried all 3 chippies now in Anlaby!I have to say the fish in Frydays is by far the best! Larger than Woody's and the recently opened Harpers. It tastes fresh and the batter is light and crispy. We have also had good fish in Woody's, and like this chippy also.The fish and chips in Harpers however was discusting. It definately was not 'fresh' and the chips were part fried and not cooked in the shop..So hands down Fryday's is the best chippy in Anlaby.

Why are there now three chillies within 100 metres of each other in Anlaby is beyond me. Would not bother with either of the others as Frydays is consistently good, big fish and great chips, perfect!

Been going to frydays for years and I'd say over the last two years it has steadily gone down hill the last three times we have been the fish has been disgusting so we go to woodys 50 yrds down

Recently moved into the Kirk Ella area and have used frydays for the past few weeks mainly on a Friday lunch time. The fish is excellent but the chip portions are way too large. 2 medium fish and one portion of chips is a tum filling meal for two people. Will be in the queue next week, maybe see you there.

Monday 28 th July 2014 We have just travelled from South Cave to Frydays Anlaby, we do this often as we think your fish n chips are so nice, worth paying the petrol. Tonight, Frydays you have let yourselves down, the fish n chips were terrible, like they had been made ages ,and reheated a lot, the patty was awful, very greasy not tasting to its usual standard, fish was acceptable, but not your usual standard, feeling very disappointed, certainly not worth the journey tonight. Sorry to say will be giving you a wide berth for a while. Was not worth the money or the long journey.

Favourite chippy ! Fish is gorgeous and batter is cooked to perfection ! Can sit inside with plate etc which is nice and staff are lovely and friendly !

staff fantastic so is is the owner ,food lovely and fresh . it is so nice to have good food and not slop served to you like a lot of places in hull i recommend frydays to everyone .

The fish abd chip supper was the best I have ever tasted and I had a choice of sizes and I plumped for the medium one which turned out to be I mini whale. The whole placed was maculate with all the staff dressed in uniform.

Its good friday so as usual fish chips mushy peas you would think it would be good after all the good reviews well how wrong, it was disgusting, greasy, all batter no fish cold peas all five of us said we would never go again i had a good mind to take it all back and ask for a refund

Well we checked out reviews on trip adviser! And glad we did..My cod was one of the best I have ever had! Great food! The wife had a patties mashed potato fritter with sage and onion etc.. And loved it so much she bought one to take home 70 miles to Chesterfield! Next time we are in Hull we will visit Frydays for sure! Jay & Mel

This fish shop never disappoints, excellent well cooked food and value for money. The only downside is you may have to que for a time because of its popularity, but you cannot have everything if you want scummy fish and chips.

Visited after 9pm on a sunday night. Welcomed on arrival. Set up table and chairs as we wanted to eat in. Haddock and chips cooked fresh. Massive portions all freshly cooked. Fish excellent, batter light and crisp. Fish and chips as it should be. Busy shop even on a Sunday night. Recommend.

A very clean and well presented shop. Eat in or take away all cooked freshly not stood for ages. Welcoming staff and good portions. Open Sundays and most days and nights. Go on treat yourself.

Its also the best fish shop in the area. Not only good quality, friendly service, and reasonably priced, its scrupulously clean, and they do stay open reasonable hours - so many similar fish shops cant wait to close early and dont provide anything like. Well done to Fry Days. (Their branch in York is also very good on the few occasions Ive been able to call in)

Fryday's is a traditional fish and chip shop in Anlaby village. It's great. Food is fab and, having come from London where everything is expensive, it seems like great value too. Service is good but they're probably a victim of their own success because there can be a bit of a queue!

I have been on many many occasions, great quality fish and chips, reasonable prices and good service. Can't fault the place.

Moved to Sheffield 17years ago but still visit family in HullYou Can't buy Patties In Sheffield so take loads back with me each time I visit They do laugh as my order is getting bigger as Now family and neighbors put there order in before we goThank you Frydays you work really hard and will be back with my next order very soon :-)

Visited Frydays based on the good reviews. The fish was not good and I debated whether it was fair to feed it to the bird life on the Humber. Most of it went into the bin. The food was disappointing. The staff were very pleasant and the prices low and reasonable.

As a lover of the great british takeaway I have to say I found frydays sadly lacking. It used to be a great chippy and the service, although very good, didn't make up for the very mediocre supper. The fish wasn't as lovely as the last few times and the chips were not crunchy and fresh, and considering the place was empty, I won't be coming back. What a shame as it used to be a good place to get a takeaway.
