Fresh in Cardiff

This place has a cult following for a very good reason. Eveytime my partner picks up a baguette, we get one each and try half of both to stop us being so jealous of what the other person ordered! You'd be an idiot not to try this place, and an even bigger idiot not to try their specials!

It’s great. Very filling baguettes and the cakes are super tasty. The queues are long from the start, but are worked through quickly, You can PREORDER!! I would recommend this. We tend to do it when ordering a large number. Great vegan/veggie options too. Big love guys Love your hard work!

I visited this place slightly after lunch time (later than 1:30pm) but still the queue was quite long; waited like 15 minutes. However, it was so worth to try! I ordered no. 16 from the baguette special. The chicken with bacon crisps with rocket is the best ever. The portion (baguette) is so big; I thought I’m done with eating but if I see inside of the bag, then there’s still more baguette with chicken. I was so happy 🥹 I will definitely revisit again if the queue is not long… But still it is worth to come back and queue :))

People who order 20 baguettes should only be allowed to do telephone orders. Could be 10 people in the queue but really theres 30. However the food is top quality so is the price and staff/owners.

Easily the best baguettes you'll find. The queues just show how good it is. The number 6 with chicken, Salami, Salami Cracklin and Truffle mayo is my favourite, easily the best baguette I've ever had Cakes are great too so make sure you grab a slice.

I have to be honest I have been a long time customer of fresh and always spoke highly about it but I find it hard to go and visit nowadays. Baguettes are nice but it feels like value for money has slipped recently. £8 for the Christmas special is very expensive for a baguette. The queue situation is also getting very silly at this point, it is often a wasted visit as I have to walk past and that is not a great sign for a business surely? I appreciate the mindset of people still queue why should we worry but surely you should worry that loyal customers have to abandon going there numerous times due to the queue. At times I don’t feel it is because of the amount of people, it is because the man on the till is doing stuff like getting the bread out, putting the bread in etc whilst 2/3 baguettes are waiting to be packaged and 2/3 people are waiting causing a massive bottle neck! Could someone else not do this? Surely you can do better guys or have a rethink on how best to approach it as I am being put off visiting fresh these days and have been numerous times!!

Thought I would leave another review. Had the Christmas one and was incredible. Only thing I wish was that there was somewhere to sit!

Never thought it was worth waiting for until I had one… by far the best sandwiches/baguettes I have ever had. Get there before 1130 or after 2pm if you want a shorter queue.

Absolutely lovely and tasty, had the specail curry baguette, there was so many different flavours however i was stuck to the toilet all afternoon.

It was worth waiting in the line, the baguette was yummy as was the brownie we got. They have many vegetarian options some of which use quorn chicken which was a nice touch. Props to the staff who are working very hard.

Popped in for once because there wasn't a massive queue. I can see why so many people queue there now.

Queues around the block, and you can definitely see why once you've got one of these baguettes. A great selection of options for any pallette. I especially appreciate the wide range of Vegatarian options available; they're no afterthought like many other places Highly recommend anything that has the salami crackling in it, what a great addition. Swing by whenever you're in the mood for lunch and on your way through this arcade, but be prepared to queue for a couple minutes. Definitely worth the wait!

Best of the best! All staff work really hard to cater to the huge queues they have on a daily basis. Always friendly, helpful and make you feel a part of the fresh family within 30 seconds of entering the building. Delicious freshly made baguettes with the best and biggest selection in Cardiff. Cakes are fabulous (especially lemon pistachio). Absolute legends!

These are the best sandwiches in town! Don't be put off by the long queue. It goes very fast and the sandwich is well worth the short wait. The owners are so kind and and the prices are very good for the amount of food and the quality of ingredients.

Great for a quick bite on the go, food is made really well and the staff are very friendly! Would highly recommend, however, it’s best to book before 11 in advance as it gets very busy and I can see why. Be aware they close at 2PM.

Greatest sandwiches in Cardiff. Really fresh ingredients and tastyyy! There is always queue that makes it difficult to enjoy as lunch break, but it's a great choice for days off.

If the queue outside every Monday-Friday, doesn't confirm this as the greatest lunch spot in Cardiff.. The incredible Baguettes do, the Friday Indian special is just that. Highly recommend it. Also anything with Salami Crackling, or the beef and peppercorn sauce special is also delicious. Great service and staff are so attentive and friendly.

Rarely do you find a place where there is such consistent pride in the product. Never had a bad sandwich/salad there.

THE BEST!! I use this place regularly for work lunches and they're brilliant. Not only are the staff so quick, friendly & amazing, the baguettes themselves are unbelievably good. I'd never expect to be telling all my friends about a baguette but honestly, you just have to try them to understand. Amazing selection for meat-eaters, veggie and vegans. Not your bog-standard fillings either, exciting flavours, fresh and so so tasty. Thank you!

A friend took me here earlier this month. You can tell even as you're taking your first bite that this is going to be good. Even the bread is good ! The fillings were very tasty and very good - and the staff were welcoming and helpful and took great care to avoid the things I am intolerant to. It's a shame they don't have any space indoors to sit down and eat, but overall I'd say this is my go-to place for lunch in Cardiff. Don't be put off by the queue - you have to try this. I look forward to going back next time I'm in Cardiff.

Visited here today after reading the reviews. There was a long queue, and waited about 20 minutes. This was about 1:30. However, the service was great. As we had 4 kids with us, they happily obliged and cut baguettes in half for the kids. They did the same with the cakes. I had number 10 which was delicious! The beef special was also very tasty. The chocolate orange cake and lemon cake were excellent. We were very glad that we went here to eat.

Best baguettes ever! I didn’t mind having to queue as it was worth the wait. Very fresh and the bread was still warm. A delicious combination of flavours. I would definitely recommend it.

We are in Cardiff today from the US, visiting for the first time. We arrived at Fresh right before the line started to grow. They were so friendly in this little shop. I had read the excellent reviews before we came, and I was prepared to wait for as long as necessary. I got the #5 chicken bacon avocado baguette and my husband got the smoked salmon cream cheese baguette. My husband decided to try the Dandelion & Burdock soda. We joked with the owners about what it might taste,since we don't have that flavor in the US. I promised to report back. My husband says that at American might think it tastes a lot like bubble gum. I took a sip and I agree. It was good! This was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in my life!! No matter how long the line is, stand in it! You'll be glad you did. This small sandwich shop based in the Arcades will more than likely have a queue outside, they make it easy to order ahead up to a day in advance, to walk in and pick up to skip the queues. A large selection to choose from the specials board, tasty fresh ingredients to fill either a white or brown baguette.

I've visited this place several times, usually have the number 16, shown in the picture, which is absolutely delicious! It is takaway only, and despite how many other places there are around that sell foodstuffs, there is normally a queue. This goes down quickly I'm happy to say & the team that own/work there are always friendly & efficient. It is quite simply the nicest baguette I've even eaten, every time I go. :o)

Absolutely outstanding! I ordered the 'number 19' - chicken mayo, bacon, rocket, red onion, salami crackling. "On beef day?", said the owner. 🤣 I stuck to the plan, but I'm sure that would have been phenomenal also. Everyone in the ever expanding que seemed to be regulars, and I can see why. The baguettes were warm, straight from the oven. The fillings were generous and delicious. The crispy salami - outstanding! It complimented the chicken so perfectly, adding a naughty little crunch that went down a treat. Despite the length of the lineup, the service was super fast and really friendly. The owners taking time to chat to everyone and treated every customer with respect and care. I'm embarassed to say this was my first time at Fresh. It will certainly not be my last. 10/10

I can honestly not remember a time that I ate a sandwich as good as this one from this morning. Incredible food, and the line is very much worth the wait.

We had a short queue when we went but it would have been worth the wait even if longer. Incredible baguette, both bread and fillings. The layers of flavours that they choose are perfectly balanced and we will make sure to visit here on future visits to Cardiff. We got both of the specials they had on for the day.

I've been coming to Fresh for several years and I can honestly say it's one of the best places to eat in Cardiff. Top quality ingredients, inventive filling combinations, and fantastic service. This place is always worth the wait of its famous queue!

Undeniably the best baguette ever. Freshness and fillings overload. Every baguette is freshly made. More than 20 choices including vegan to choose from. Did have a hard time choosing which one to try. Finally set on the parma ham baguette, fresh, full of flavours and just unbeatable in terms of quality.

We visited here based on TripAdvisor reviews on a weekend vist to Cardiff. Our sandwich hating son announced it was the best sandwich he'd ever eaten and insisted we go back the next day to buy the same for our return journey home!

Only spent 24 hours in Cardiff and visited this amazing place twice!! Who would have thought such a quaint bijou shop could be delivering such incredible sandwiches made fresh in front of you with smiles and small talk from the staff. From the bread, to the freshest of ingredients, to the way you have worked out the best flavour combinations in every bite. They certainly aren't stingy on the fillings either! Can confirm numbers 6,7,10 and 16 are utterly divine, the Salami cracking....drool! Can see why it gets so busy and is THE place to go in the city. If it wasn't a 150+ round-mile trip from home, my family and I would be regulars, can you justify a house move based solely on a sandwich?? Lol.
