Fred's Charcoal Grill in North Devon

I love a good kebab and chose a Chef's Special from the extensive menu, to be delivered. The delivery charge was £1.90 (02/2024) which is reasonable but there is a minimum amount to spend before they'll deliver. Told 30 minutes but arrived in about 17 about a mile from the shop, which was a major bonus. Driver polite, honest and engaging. Kebab handed over and i immediately realised how heavy it was! There were essentially three parts to it; a large container filled to the brim with doner, kofta, lamb and chicken meat (simply that); a smaller tub (about half the size) filled with a delicious fresh salad and perhaps a little lemon juice; and two soft pitta breads. There were also two (largish) tubs of hot sauce and garlic mayonnaise which meant I could put as much or as little on as I required (I liked a lot and there was still some left over). I wrongly thought that £16 was the going rate for a large doner (as it is where I'm from), but no, this is the rate for what must be two to share. Amazing price! This is a cheap meal for what it is, in essence, two kebabs. The meat was succulent and juicy, well cooked, and minimal fat seepage, meaning the pittas stayed dry when eating. This was the best kebab I've eaten, and called to tell them so! There was also so much of it that I made a second kebab, wrapped and placed it in the fridge, and ate it for lunch the next day, which was also lovely microwaved. All in all a very positive experience, let down by not accepting debit cards, but which didn't detract from a wonderful meal, and five stars. I'm looking forward to going back! Edit: Don't use WhatsApp for ordering as they don't pick it up.

The food is bad and of poor quality, there are kittens everywhere, it’s a complete garbage dump.

Ran out of driving hours so ended up getting stuck in South Molton business park, brilliant restaurant, excellent food for the price including delivery and service was 10/10, definitely ordering from here again, thank you.

Got stuck in South Molton and got a delivery from here, staff were super nice food was ok but very expencive for what it was, if i was here again i wouldn't go back juat becauae of the price.

Staying in a local holiday let, decided we would have a local takeaway. Well the communication over the phone was very poor, then once the food arrived some of our extras were missing and the food that we did have was actually inedible! The meat was burnt and looked like it had been there for weeks, the chips were soggy and tasteless, the salad looked like rabbits food! The only edible bit was the garlic bread! We as young adults who love food and would eat most things actually couldn’t stomach this so very dissatisfied especially for the price of the bill, we will not be returning that’s for sure!

Stayed in a local holiday cottage and ordered a takeaway from Fred’s, it started bad and got much worse, customer service was more than inadequate, having to explain our order multiple times. Delivery in all fairness wasn’t too bad once they’d agreed to deliver to a postcode 2 miles within the delivery range after a small debate. Once it arrived and we were asked to pay £53!! £12.50 over the prices quoted on the menu. With no receipt given to prove what we were paying for. We began to unpack our half complete delivery, missing coleslaw and garlic Mayo and tucked it to a dry lamb donner, completely burnt chicken Kebab, Sunday roast mint sauce and wilted salad leaves. It tasted of nothing apart from charcoal which I can say would have been a cheaper alternative. I recommend to anyone that you don’t eat here, with meals hardly touched we split a mediocre garlic bread between 4.

Excellent food in huge portions. Once you try it you'll go back for more.

i have been going here for roughly 3 years now and had no problems very friendly staff always happy to help they know what i want even before i get in the door love there pizzas and there chips and the chicken very nice

Food iS Overpriced and tiny portions of low quality products even my little one wouldn't eat the chicken nuggets food is poor I also choked on a long black hair that was in the kebab meat in my food I rang up and told them of finding the hair as I didn't want anyone else to suffer but the place is definitely worth avoiding for your wallet & your health

Fred's Charcoal Grill does the most amazing pizza ever. We had the flaming hot one. It has the best base I have had on a pizza before. Looking forward to going to south molton again just for Freds pizza

The service here keeps getting worse. The food is at best consumable, but the customer service both in store and for delivery is far below par. It is almost a chore to order from here

Bargain takeaway but you will get what you pay for. They are not as good as their smell; the cheese just doesn’t taste or smell like cheese. My pizza was a bit burnt. Food is a bit tasteless but very cheap.

One of, if not the best chicken and lamb skewer kebabs I have ever had. Cooked to perfection on the grill. Nice large portion with fresh salad and chillis. The chilli sauce was rich and deep in flavour. Establishment was very clean.

Possibly the worst kebab ever. Lamb shish was like chewing on a warm tennis ball. Lamb donner was exceptionally greasy. Salad quality was very cheap with tomatoes on the turn. Chips were undercooked. Unfriendly staff, no card payments, everything looked dated, tired, unclean. Menu's coming off the walls and faded pictures. Very overpriced too. Amazing to know these places still exist. It's embarrassing.

Went for the mixed kebab 9.50 bloody lovely staved myself to make room for it took the Donna meat out and fry it Krispy. Fantastic herbs and flavouring. Cheers Fred

Food comes to your door food, charges you more than what says on the menu and then says that they had changed menus poor children had to eat cold food as refused refund disgusting

On holiday in the area so, ordered 2 pizzas for the family. A 14 inch margarita and a 12 inch vegetarian. Veggie was tasty but, the margarita was burnt and tasteless and didn’t even have any tomato purée on it. Essentially it was burnt cheese on toast. Prices are expensive, if your staying in the area go elsewhere.

I’m from Kent just outside London and working away from home and I was looking for a takeaway and I came across Fred’s. Wow just wow food was perfect service was even better value thought I was robbing him if I was honest if your in the area it’s a must do

Quick, efficient and friendly staff. Kitchen/ serving area very clean and food properly chilled and covered. The pizzas were nice, with generous toppings, although I found the base a little greasy underneath. Overall, good place to pick up a quick take away.

Good grub nice staff cheap enough

Nice kebab shop. Good portions and I noticed John May Butchers delivering to them so I can trust all the loose meat even if I don't know where the kebab meat comes from.

We always choose freds over any other takeaway in town as it has such a varied selection, cooked fresh and always hot and tasty.

While staying at East Trayne Hol. Cotts. We ordered a takeaway. Fred's, delivered with no fuss. I had a Pizza and family had Shish kebabs. All fresh and enjoyed.

Joe and the lads are brilliant and friendly and Freds charcoal grill serves everything freshly cooked from pizzas, kebabs, burgers to chips and chicken, good value nice takeaway
