Frankie and Benny's in Portsmouth

Food was pretty poor and massively overpriced, I got served from two dirty glasses and my food came on a plate that looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned. The music is far too loud so it’s very difficult to talk to the person next to you. You’d be much better off going to Nando’s next door or literally anywhere else in Gunwharf

Me, my wife and our 2 little ones went there for lunch on Saturday 30 March. The service has been outstanding in my opinion. Everyone has been so helpful and polite. A special mention to Emma who really made us feel at home, playing with our children while serving us. The atmosphere brings you back into a different time as you would expect by eating in F&B. The food also deserves a good mention as everything was good, especially for the price they offer. The only reason why I gave it a 4/5 is because my "dirty hot dog" was a bit cold. I'll definitely pop back next time in Portsmouth!

Very slow service. Took 15-20 minutes to get drinks. Food took 40 minutes to come out, but , for 20 minutes it sat under a heat lamp. Food was inevitably cold. We left without eating. Hire more staff!!

The food was awful, pasta not hot and taste bad at all (four of us not even one pasta is yummy), and the meat balls middle was cold, as well as the taste was worse than Ikea meat ball, we all felt cheated and never will go this restaurant again although they got a very cozy and decor.

£15.30 for a 10 inch new york giant pizza was quite expensive in my opinion but it did taste very nice.

Great place slightly on the pricey side, but you get a lot for your money. The food is great, and the service is quick even at busy times.

We hadn’t planned to go to Frankie and bennys but glad we ended up there. Our waitress Paulina was great, gave fab service, was very friendly and gave us suggestions on local places to go. She made recommendations from the menu and interacted with the kids. The food was also spot on.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurants was full to capacity, the service and food was good. The only problem was it is a place where we heard the “Happy birthday “ recording at 100 decibels at least 10 times in 2 hours. It is SO noisy, we found it difficult to hear each other talk and the birthday song made us jump every time, as it was so loud.

Our host was superb, sorry didn’t get his name! Food was a little slow, but he was on it..! a little bit disappointed..! We couldn’t use our voucher for signing up to the app the day before but apart from that we will definitely come back. Food was good. Service was very good

Had a lovely Valentines meal with the wife and was served by a wonderful server Sam (looked like Barry Keogun) He was really nice and didnt point out the fact me wife said you too after he told us to enjoy our meal. He was amazing

I had cheese bacon mega burger with jacket potato which I thoroughly enjoyed and was totally full afterwards couldn’t manage another thing my husband had the pepperoni pizza which he didn’t enjoy as he said it was too salty so he just picked at it if my husband says it was too salty it must have been as he likes salty things but this was too much

12 of us. Food excellent all came out together and hot. Service excellent not been for couple of years. Will definitely go back soon.

Kids' favourite place for dinner.

It’s ok but not amazing. The food was just fine, pizzas are a tad small and not great, burgers and salads are better in my opinion. The staff was kind and professional (sometimes not very responsive but maybe that’s just because we went during holidays) and the atmosphere was ok but the temperature could have done with a couple more degrees. Overall good value for money.

Attended before going to cinema as location very good for this. Was extremely busy, so I'm glad I booked. The food was slow in coming out, but I think this was due to a shortage of staff. I ordered the meat balls starter, which was ok, but the sauce was a bit congealed. 2 portions of chicken nuggets and garlic bread for children, which looked a bit dry, too. The staff were lovely and I couldn't fault them, but this experience wasn't as good as previous times. I think it's time Franki & Benny's had a bit of an update, too. The seats were well worn and uncomfortable.

We had a quick lunch with a 3 yrs old. Crayons were supplied for children small entertainment. Children friendly restaurant. Service was quick and staff is friendly. Food is mediocre. Wheelchair excess. Toilets upstairs tho.

Food came out an hour after we sat down. To be fair, they were quite busy and took a little while to get the order in. Food was tasty and portions were reasonable.

Friendly staff, chefs that are happy to make delicious food to your preference, and desserts worth waiting for. We drive an hour from home just to come here. As I said, love them!

Despite being only half full the service was very slow, waited 15 mins to be seated when there were many empty tables, 20 mins to take order, 30 mins for starters to arrive - they were cold - another 25 mins for mains to come out, steak meal had cold chips and cold, dry shrivelled up old looking tinned mushrooms, pizza was undercooked (to a raw dough degree) and had barely any topping....staff seemed friendly but quite clueless. Very very disappointed.

Came to this Frankie and bennies yesterday and was very unimpressed. The server we were served by didn’t seem very interested and spent most of her time on the phone and then over charged us. When it came to refunding they refunded the whole meal and made us pay again which meant we were out of pocket and are until the money is returned to us. Will certainly not be going back here again.

Popped in here today to grab some lunch, service was slow, but I think this was just due to a lack of staff in fairness, the 3 staff we saw and spoke to were all helpful and polite, just a simple lack of numbers .v. work and costumers. That said once we ordered, the food came quickly, and apart from the chips was hot and fresh. (Chips were awful, cool, and chewy) Price was reasonable, and I think we would consider going back… maybe at a more popular time when there is the staff to support the custom. F&B is located on the 1st floor accessed by the stairs or lift near the view cinema, the entrance is open and easy. Toilets are upstairs and I’m not sure if there is a lift within if you struggle with stairs.

From start to walking out before mains arrived was a complete shambles! Totally shocked at how awful our experience was. So booked a few days before for a Friday night dinner at 8pm. We arrived at 8.03pm to be told we had to wait for them to clear and clean our table. We had to then dry our own table with napkins as it was still wet. We eventually got a drink at 8.30pm and starters at 8.45pm! These actually were very tasty, we chose chicken wings, garlic bread and also the meatballs. At 9.20pm we were getting frustrated that in 80 mins after arriving we'd had such poor and slow service and we couldn't see any sight of our main course, we'd all put our coats back on too as we were all very uncomfortable with how cold it was in there. I then took it upon myself to decide we wouldn't wait any longer in such a cold, uncomfortable place for our mains and that we'd take our business elsewhere that would also be pleasant to sit in with some warmth. I spoke to whom i presumed to be head of the restaurant who didn't really apologise, just remarked "you still waiting on your mains? They won't be long" it was then I said, please cancel them, I'd like to leave and then proceeded to explain why and that also I'd noticed most of the restaurant guests had their coats on. We didn't get an apology or even a gesture of good will, no discount or offer of rectification. We will not be returning and I'd suggest if you're thinking of trying here, think again and go to one of the many lovely, good serviced restaurants that gunwharf have to offer. Shame as we frequent gunwharf, living locally and thought it may be good to try. Never mind, lesson learnt and we went on to have a very enjoyable evening.

Went for our daughters 30th birthday, very disappointed, restaurant was cold ,food was dry and luke warm, the only good thing was the waitress was lovely.

Frankie & Benny’s Gunwharf was chosen by our son for his birthday meal since he has always liked the venue and the beef burgers (we were also hoping for the little ‘Happy Birthday’ celebration the staff give at the table). Unfortunately our experience was very poor. Six of us were squashed into an uncomfortable bench seat table with nowhere to put our coats. Because the seats were ripped and sagged badly we had to move to another bench table. Then we were told that there was no beef, so no beef burgers, and no draught beer. There was no apology. The place was practically empty and there was no birthday celebration from the staff. Never again!

Really good vegan pepperoni pizza. Bit on the expensive side.

Ordered ribs for me cheese for my grandaughter. Ribs were OK, cheeseburger served in a dry wholemeal roll. Chips were dry & cold. Corn on cob overcooked served with no butter. Server thinking its acceptable to keep calling me darling. Spent 20 moins waiting for him to come back so I could pay, ended up going to reception to pay. Really gone downhill

The staff there are very kind and friendly, we have been served by Tiago and he is professional, smiley and made our experience perfect. The food are delicious as well. Differently will come again 👌🏼

Our waiter was excellent and really friendly their name was George 😁 the food and atmosphere was very nice I'd love to come again.

Food was honestly terrible. Havent been to F&B in about 5 years. Ice cream chocolate milkshake tasted not even as good as nesquik... and was too warm to have had ice cream in. I didn't pay for it. Macaroni was so bland, chips were overcooked in a bad way and the diet coke was a coke cocktail... mainly ice. Calzone alright except the chicken was hard, I suspect reheated not going again. We went to 5 guys for milkshakes. All was well.

Big portions. Service was slow and had to ask 3 times to 3 different people about getting water for our table as the food was taking over 40 mins to arrive. They put my wife and I on this little 2 seater table with the main walk way next to us, with people bassing into us, so we asked to move but was told the bigger tables are for bigger groups and that we can't have it. Overall food great service not to great.

It was dead inside, just one of those days, but despite this the service was non existent. The menu was very limited, very cost of living style.

Food was lovely, but starters were such big portions we could barely touch our mains. Had to wait so long for food we were sat there for over an hour. It was very busy. However, our server, Tricia, was very lovely. Friendly, smiley, and attentive.

Fantastic lunch meal in here today, food was great, allergies well handled and we were really well looked after by Tiago.

Good family friendly restaurant in gun wharf

We just had a lovely dinner tonight. We felt very welcome on arrival, food was great and the lady who looked after us was very attentive. What else could we ask for...🙂👍

Right next to the cinema. The restaurant is spread across two floors. Usual menu you get from this chain. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

It was very reasonably priced and the food was good. Very friendly waiter.

Stopped for a spot of lunch. Plenty of choice for a lunchtime menu. Had a lovely time. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Food was top notch and served hot. Chilled drinks were served with ice.

Booked online and had a confirmation email but, when we arrived they couldn't find our booking. They did find a table, which wasn't difficult as it wasn't busy. Our server (Isa) was pleasent enough, however the food was a total let down! My meatballs were dry with non existent sauce, my partners ceaser salad with chicken was also dry and tasteless. Don't think we will eat here again!

Good food in a fun atmosphere. We had a very good meal and the children loved their food but the toilet facilities were really disgusting. Someone had been sick all over the gents but they did not have available people to clean it up so the guys had to use the disabled toilet. The ladies was blocked and pretty horrible and didn’t look like it had been cleaned all evening. Having said that our server was lovely and efficient and the food was as pretty good.

We visited Gunwharf quay off the recommendation of a friend so I researched the place and found Frankie and benny’s which I was glad to see. Booked a table for me my wife and son. We was served by Jenny who seamlessly made the experience memorable. People like Jenny who are so kind and make experiences easy for family days out need to be more like her. If Jenny can be shown this then our thanks to her for that day.

This used to be one of my favourite restaurant chains but this time I was left disappointed. Took nearly 20 mins to get 2/3 of our drinks, despite only 3 other tables being occupied when we arrived. The plates etc from the starters were still on the table when the mains were brought out, but even as the mains were put down, the starter plates remained. So we had to push them to one side while we ate. The food was edible but not even close to the standard of the past. The mozzarella sticks were over cooked so there was virtually no cheese left in them. The loaded potato skins were bland. The sweet potato fries were over cooked. The mains were fine, but nothing special. I don’t feel it was worth the £95 it cost for 2 starters, 3 mains, and 3 drinks. Sadly I will not be returning and time soon.

The food is overpriced for what they serve and Portions size are small. Chips were cold on all 4 of our meals which all had to replaced. We used to eat here regularly but this is our last visit.

haven't been in years because the quality is just... fine. Went for a friend's birthday and not anything specifically awful but nothing was really very good. Almost everyone at my table was missing something or over cooked food etc. No cheeper then anywhere else down gunwharf and not as good as most restaurants down there.

We came to Frankie and benny’s a few nights ago and we were served by the amazing Jenny! We had amazing food and Jenny made sure that we were looked after! She was so attentive and always came back to check on us every so often to make sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely be back! Well done Jenny!

Absolutely loved it ♥️ the food was excellent, really scrummy, served promptly with a smile and great value for money. Most of all GEORGE 😘 what a total gem, this young man made our visit complete, nothing was too much trouble, he was working flat out and I didn't see him stop the whole time we were there. He was attentive without being a nuisance and his demeanor was perfect professional and warm and friendly. I can't praise him enough, he made the whole experience perfect 👏👏

Lovely service and attention from Emma who served us at Frankie's, after being fussy about what we wanted to eat and drink nothing was too much trouble and she was lovely beginning to end.

My partner and I went out for a spontaneous meal together and were greeted by George. He provided a great service and was very happy and cheerful. The food came in very good time even though it was very busy. Thank you x.

Absolutely Fantastic service from a waiter named Ethan could not be more attractive to the customers

We bought 4 meals here. A dirty dog, chicken and halloumi burger, pizza and macaroni cheese. We all enjoyed our choice of food. My son also had a milkshake, which he really enjoyed. It could have been used as a desert it looked so good. The burger came with fries, but I asked if they would change it to a salad instead, which they agreed to. They catered for our allergies really well and didn't make us feel uncomfortable. The server was a lovely young man who was polite and courteous.

Loved the place and the staff was well friendly New review after not visiting for 5 years. The service was still of good quality and the food was perfectly prepared. The staff kept the coke flowing and didn't have to ask for more. The only little thing is the dust on the edge was thick and the cleaners needed to be doing a better job. Our booth was the one behind the entrance counter.

Never had a good experience here. On first visit the service was slow, though the food was good. Second visit I gave up waiting to be seated and left, staff instead prioritising chatting with each other and dealing with food delivery drivers.

We liked our server very much. This place is way noisy. (Like a rowdy public school lunchroom) Food was fair in qty and taste but nothing to write home about. Broccolini was underdone. All else was ok.

Second recent disappointing visit. Average food averagely cooked. Saw a steak day on the pass for about 10 mins and it came to me. Sent I straight back as was like warm, chips dry and cold and the mushrooms looked like they had been warmed hours ago. The tomato was barely ripe let alone cooked! The man n cheese was dry and congealed. Rather disappointing. I’m he pizza however was ok.

Amazing vegan BBQ drumsticks only 3 in a portion but very nice and tasty and not dry. Mac n cheese nice too - could do with some garlic or something but that's just personal preference. Had a lovely server who was new to the job but very friendly and helpful.

Four of us went for a meal here on the evening .we all had different meals all of them came out the same time and were all hot.all the staff were polite and helpful.

Very busy and had to wait half an hour by the entrance for a table. Food portions are very large so it’s probably a good place to eat with a family .

We have an afternoon lunch here with the three kids on Monday 31/07/23 and we were blown away with the really nice food we had and the service was truly excellent (our server name was Tiago) especially seeing how busy they were. Next time we visit Vue Cinema in Gunwharf we will definitely be coming back with the family.

Must be the best Frankie's and bennies I have ever been in. The food is great. The customers and waiters always have positive attitudes and are very welcoming. Definitely recommend

Celebratory lunch for my son...he'd just passed his degree...BSc Honours First Class in Project Management...very proud parents. PS Lunch...the food was great (clean plates all round) however service was a bit lackimg overall. Sorry, no more pictures. Still worth a visit though!

Really good food at very good prices. The service was friendly and quick. The only that the place down was the toilets which dirty and no soap and the hand sanitisers were all empty.

Absolutely lovely meal. Atmosphere was good, staff were very polite and attentive. It was so busy and still the staff really made an effort. Really good prices there too. Its also nice to see they took notice of the booking requirements I asked for when I booked online. Will definitely back.

Popped in while out shopping. Very busy but didn't have to wait long. Food was good without being spectacular as you would expect for a gast food restaurant.

Pretty sure my bf and I got a bad stomach from the pepperoni pizza.

The food was nice though the children's meals need to be a lot smaller. It's very loud and we asked to be sat somewhere outside. However, they couldn't do that, so we were sat upstairs. This wasn't too bad and made the meal easier to manage.

Though they were out of quite a bit of food on the menu, what we ended up with arrived promptly and was delicious. Service was good and the restaurant had a pleasant ambience despite how busy it was.

I liked that they have the calories of the food on the menu. The hamburger could have needed some more ingredients, like salad or sauce and the patty tasted a bit undercooked. The milkshake was good and the loaded fries were good too. Overall it was acceptable but a bit overpriced. The service was okay to begin with but when I waited for the milkshake they were busy chatting at the food counter. Usually drinks come much sooner and I got up and asked them - then it came. That is not good and I'm generous for giving two stars on that, it is because they were helpful before I sat down. The atmosphere was like in any pub or restaurant.
