Everything was excellent from the welcome and check in process to the checkout. Good availability for parking at the location. The room was very generous in terms of space and was very comfortable. The restaurant food was delicious. We would stay again.

A favourite destination. Outstanding food, cooked to perfection! Always! Not always necessary to book, but consider booking ahead, too many people have read my reviews! Drinks served either to your table or to their delightful outside garden. From appearance, the sort of venue where one assumes black tie of a suit might be required, but no! Jeans and T shirt are OK! The only requirement is that you relax and enjoy their superb cuisine and eclectic bar! Also, you will spend less than you might expect!

We spent a very happy evening at Foyles last night. The lovely lady who served us went over and above in looking after us all and made the evening even more special. The food was beautiful, every single mouthful was delicious. The portions are not huge but actually they were plenty. We had nearly everything on the menu between us all and everyone loved the dishes they chose. The pigeon starter and ox cheek were particularly enjoyed and I loved my duck. I didn’t pay for the meal but it wasn’t cheap however as the quality was so good and it was a birthday treat for my daughter I thought it was worth it! The Welsh Male Voice Choir singing to her as we left was the icing on the cake! Thank you to everyone! 😊

Many thanks to the Chef and all the staff at Foyles for an amazing Christmas meal on 6 December. All the food was perfectly cooked and well presented. A well deserved 5 Star rating.

Foyles is a restaurant and hotel that excels in every possible way. From the moment you enter and are greeted by a staff member to the moment when you take your table and then taste your food, you realise that excellence has reached a new best. The food is superb. Well selected cuts of local meat, superb vegetarian dishes, all prepared to the highest possible of standards would be the envy of many outstanding restaurants around the world. Their desert selection and cheese board are too good to be resisted. An impressive selection of beers and wines at prices far lower than you would find in any other hotel I know, and their range of single malt whiskys, and interesting gins will take your dining experience to another level. I have dined in some of the best restaurants around the world, Foyles is up there amongst them. You would therefore expect their prices to be up there too. But they’re not! I regularly treat friends to their superbe cuisine knowing that this is a very special treat that I can afford. But then the service. It is rare to be treated so courteously by staff, who even if you are an occasional visitor, remember you by name and welcome you back. In the summer, I ordered a round of drinks for friends seated outside in their beautiful garden, and waited to convey them outside. “We’ll bring them to you very shortly Mr Joiner” I was told! Recently I visited on the spur of the moment for lunch a week or so ago, and realised I had missed their lunch service hours. Not to worry Sir, I’m sure we can find you a cream tea. Which they did! I shall run out of superlatives to describe Foyles. Visit, and you will too.

Stayed the night and it was perfect. Breakfast was excellent and so came back with my brother and his family for Sunday lunch. Again great and perfect attention to detail. The front of house staff in the hotel and restaurant side were pleasant and helpful. Would highly recommend the hotel, the restaurant, or both. The staff deserve praise on doing their job so well.

Lovely restaurant , spacious and plenty of seating. Service ok. The food was not the best - very surprised after reading such good reviews. I had the vegetarian Mezze and can honestly say it was not good, and for a mezze was stingy - a dollop of hummus on a board with a few pickley things and a piece of artichoke that was tasteless. The hummus was overwhelmed with cumin and not salted. The two small pieces of focaccia were stale as were crusty at the edges the whole thing completely overpriced. My other half had ham, egg and chips and yet again a very small portion. All in all not for us.

Not my first time here and won't be the last. In an easy to find location if you're not familiar, plenty of parking and always a great welcome. Always a good menu with locally sourced food - the photo was of my main which included some pickled grapes, which was delicious. The staff are all very helpful, there when you need them and know a lot about what goes into each dish. Definitely recommended.

We stayed for one night here. The room was immaculate and extremely spacious. The beds were so comfortable and the room tastefully decorated. Breakfast was delicious. The view from the room was gorgeous. Plenty of parking available.

Very lovely cooking and good service. Ask to sit in the room with the tree clad in fairy lights. Quite pricey but quite a step up from pub grub, everything was extremely good. Perfectly cooked fish with a prawn and chive gnocchi and a delicious Panna cotta. Good house wine. Worth a visit.

Cracking restaurant, from the welcome you get on arrival, to the food and table service. The venue was very light, bright, clean and contemporary. The menu was classic and food was really good, tasty, well cooked and value. I’ll definitely be back!

This was my second visit having been last year and the experience was very disappointing although very similar to my first. The place is stunning but the welcome and in particular the bar manager is possibly the rudest person I have yet to meet in the hospitality industry. Not once did he show any respect or express any genuine interest in actually providing a warm and welcoming experience. I certainly won’t be going back.

Ok , bit expensive , don't expect one course to fill you up , reasonable menu choice , ok service .Place was draughty and cool , the day had been sunny so the Aircon was on ( but doors and windows open !) The evening was cool though but non of the staff seemed to notice customers were sat about with jumpers and jackets . I had to point it out to a young lady who said she'd turn off the aircon ,( it didn't make much difference. Because of this we didn't linger as usual for a coffee .

We stayed here for 2 nights as it was my partners birthday. Our room was beautifully decorated with quality pieces and super.clean. Food in restaurant was delicious. Bar staff were attentive. Linda the owner was so helpful with local tour suggestions and patient with all my questions. Do visit as would highly recommended. Hope to be back soon.

Friendly and good atmosphere. There was a good choice for both adults and children, very tasty and big portions. We didn’t need to wait for anything. Definitely planning on going again!

An elegantly decorated venue with muted music and widely spaced tables which makes for an intimate and relaxing lunch. The menu is interesting and imaginative and the food is excellent. Coffee is poor quality and thin, but otherwise it was really excellent and highly recommended

Food looked mediocre however 5 hours later the whole family started dropping like flys, this establishment was without question the source of the outbreak as it was the only common denominator between our group. Definitely won’t be dinning at this establishment again!

We have been going to this restaurant for special occasions for years. Beautiful good, stunning decor and super friendly staff. The food is always delicious, great portions and everyone always leaves with a huge smile on their face. Going back next week for a Sunday roast! Cannot rate this place highly enough. Some items on the menu can be a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth it!

Food was very nice and well presented. Highlight for me was the chocolate and peanut butter tart with raspberries and raspberry sorbet which was delicious. Attentive, friendly staff and good pace service (not too fast or too slow). Decor is nice and creates a nice atmosphere.

Hubby and I managed to escape for 24 hours and chose this hotel (recommended by a friend). So beautiful. Rooms and restaurant very well done. Lovely decor and pretty Xmas decorations finished it off. All staff were attentive, friendly and on it. Kerry especially was amazing in the evening restaurant. Couldn’t fault the food for dinner and breakfast and all worth every penny. Can’t wait to go back. I have high standards and I was not disappointed. Thank you Foyles for a lovely stay.

Now we know why everyone raves about Foyles. A family table 8 for Sunday dinner. Delicious food - great to see lamb and beef on the menu together! Very impressed with the efficiency of staff & timings between courses. Very reasonably priced. High standard of hygiene. Beautiful building & interior design. We will be back!

The service, food and atmosphere were top quality, not rushed but not slow either. Good menu choices. Would happily go again with prices at a reasonable level. Would have given 5 stars except for the 8 smokers forming a corridor right outside the entrance. Wasn't raining, perhaps a special place away from the entrance would improve arrival!

We have just recently returned from an overnight stay at Foyles. From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The room was spacious and finished to a high standard, with everything we needed, apart from an iron, which was delivered within 2 minutes of my request to reception. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, with generous, but not over-sized portions. I hope to return to Foyles in the future.

We spent 2 nights at this beautiful hotel. The room was lovely, the general decor was beautiful and the setting is very picturesque. We ate in the restaurant the first night and despite planning to eat elsewhere on the second we decided to stay as the food was so good. The staff were excellent, very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to this area.

We both thought the squid starter was like chewing rubber bands. The steak and ale pie was good but I was disappointed with the Moules. Some in the dish hadn't opened and should have been removed. Others were just about open or very small. Not tempted by the desserts and no cheese board. Overpriced and we wouldn't return. Pity, as we are local.The staff were polite and service generally good. This is an attractive restaurant and in a pleasant setting .

l have been twice to Foyles in the last 2 months, which is very unusual for me to go back to a place so quickly. As we can only have 100 words on here, l didn't bother posting on here but posted the review on Google Reviews under the same name.

An immaculate hotel. Welcoming staff, beautiful decor in the shared areas and bedrooms, and very clean. Food in the restaurant was lovely although some of the dishes were quite pricey. Lovely relaxed breakfast - the vegetarian sausages were the nicest I’ve tasted. The only nit picking I can say is I thought the added £1 for hand cooked chips and ground coffee was unnecessary.I would highly recommend a stay here. You won’t be disappointed.

A hidden gem tucked away a beautiful Welsh village. I took my parents there for afternoon tea as a birthday treat, everything was perfect. The tea was beautifully presented and the staff were so friendly and attentive.

After checking reviews of other eateries in the area when visiting Talgarth, I opted for this restaurant and was more than pleased that I did. The restaurant was very well furnished and provided a pleasant atmosphere for a drink and meal. Although the food is not budget prices, the taste and quality of the food is well worth the price and good value for money. Will definitely be returning.

Very efficient service and the pub/ hotel is beautifully decorated,very clean and covid secure. After your meal you can have a lovely stroll by the river .

We are local and have visited Foyles quite a few times, albeit not much in 2020. We had the chance to come for lunch recently and everything was just perfect. Covid safe too. Warm welcome, comfortable chairs at a corner table in the conservatory, fabulous service and wonderful food. They look after you well here. Looking forward to next time. When will that be I wonder? Soon I hope.

Visited Foyles for an impromptu celebration for our daughter. Lovely welcome. The meal was absolutely delicious. From starter to dessert. Excellent wine list. There were 4 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed.

We stopped here impromptu for Sunday lunch in late September 2020, as we walked the Wye Valley Walk from Hay to Builth Wells, it was warm and sunny so we ate outside. The Covid precautions were good, the service excellent, staff were helpful and cheery, and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. We used the 2 course Sunday fixed price menu, it is a bit pricey, but we found it an outstanding restaurant, and can highly recommended a visit.

Visited on a Saturday night. First impressions were good - the restaurant itself is lovely, clean and all tables well spaced out. There was a decent selection of starters and main courses, but a poor selection of desserts (only 3 available). Our main courses and desserts were nice enough, but sadly not worth the price. The canapé given before the meal was a little bizarre - it apparently had chicken in it but all you could taste was hard pastry and coleslaw! The service was where Foyles really disappointed us - we had to ask twice for water, twice for the dessert menu and waited about 10 minutes to pay before somebody eventually told us the card machine wouldn't work in the section we were in so we'd have to pay at reception. Overall, the food was OK but not worth the price you pay, and service disappointing.

Very good food, the best we had in our 5 days staying in Glasbury on Wye. The fish dishes were particularly good.

We were seated straight away and then served with a selection of canapés, wonderful. The squid starter was very very good. I had the Foyles burger and it was one of the best, my partner had the pie and she said it was excellent . The sweet was superb and lots of it. Service was quick and very pleasant. A very nice location and venue, with a good selection of dishes on the menu. The burger is enormous and could easily be half the size and I still pay the same price because it tasted fantastic.

Arrived at 6.30 for 6.45 booking only to be told we had booked for 7.45. This was found to be their error, however they were able to seat us immediately.Waitress brought menus and took drink orders. After 21 minutes we had to ask where drinks were only to be told only 1 barman on (Saturday evening) Drinks arrived shortly after and food ordered. 3 times we asked for wine list and 3 different members of staff went to fetch one. Our food arrived and eventually wine was ordered. By the time the wine arrived we had finished our main course. The food was good, however starters and desserts were overpriced at around £8. Main courses were similar prices to neighbouring establishments. We only had a main course because it was so slow. We asked for the bill at 20.10 and had it on the table at 20.11!How peculiar that they managed that part of the event so quickly. We quietly complained to the manager who apologised and gave the usual sort of how busy they were, but when we sat down both bar and restaurant had very few customers. A nice venue, friendly staff and pleasant enough food, but it was premium price, but definitely not premium service on this occasion. Our feedback is that you need to ensure all your staff are trained to be at least competent because with your prices and poor service, customers will vote with their feet. Although apology given, felt the manager could have offered some kind of gesture to show that he understood how we felt.

Second attempt to eat/drink in a week, poor service both times, even though a table was booked we left without explanation, Foyles is back to the old foyles we all knew and hated! Nobody cares or even acknowledged the fact the we were there, just looked straight through us as if we were ghosts! Shameful to the owners of Nicholls, such a well known local brand.

My husband and I recently visited here for a night away and had a lovely stay. The hotel is very easy to find and not far from the beautiful riverfront (shame weather was awful so we couldn’t explore much on foot!) and its in a great location to explore nearby Brecon Beacons and Hay on Wye. The decor inside the hotel was very fresh and modern yet had a lovely cosy country feel to it. The rooms were immaculately clean and plenty of linens/toiletries/tea and coffee facilities. Very helpful and friendly staff that couldn’t do enough to assist you. We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel however if the breakfast was anything to go by this would no doubt be of the same high standard. Lots of choice and was plentiful! I can imagine this place is even more beautiful in the summer when you can sit out on the lovely terrace and enjoy drinks. We will certainly be returning!

What a night out can't fault any of it! The food was wonderful which is an achievement for a party of 80+ the service was excellent let's hope Mark & Christina take us here again next January. Thank you to all concerned!!

Another lovely stay at Foyles, this time for our wedding Anniversary, rooms are stunning as previous. warm welcome and moved us to a new room when there was an issue with a window in first room.Only very minor thing was half blinds in bedroom don't extend down fully and curtains not dark lined, so sunshine woke us in morning.But otherwise all as great as normal, lovely breakfast and very accommodating for vegetariansOur evening meal was gorgeous and the service was great as we have seen before, very helpful, friendly and courteousThanks again for a lovely time

Really delicious food here; and the decor is themed to hay which was cute. We had a private room as there were quite a few of us. We had to pre order but it was very punctual and very good. The starters were amazing- and almost the same size as the main. Very much enjoyed.

I've eaten here about 8 times. There is a small bar area where you can have a drink while pondering over the menu, ordering and waiting for your meal to be prepared. The restaurant area is very pleasant and feels like it was designed by a professional interior designer. The meals are well presented and the food is tasty. It is however, I feel, a bit overpriced. Vegan and vegetarian options are available.

We visited Foyles for afternoon tea as a treat for my Mother’s birthday. My sister and I had visited before on separate occasions and had a very pleasant experience both times. Unfortunately, this time our experience was very different.On arrival we discovered that the conservatory restaurant was closed as they were preparing for a belated Christmas party that evening. We were therefore given a table in the bar/foyer area right in front of the main doors. Needless to say, every time someone came through the doors (which became increasingly frequent) we were subjected to a cold blast of January air which seemed to last forever as the doors were on very slow self-closing mechanisms.It was very noisy as there were a lot of loud people in the bar (which I know is outside the control of the hotel) However, this was not helped by the staff who were constantly coming and going past our table preparing for the evenings event. Not only did we have to contend with the clatter of crockery and cutlery but the staff were also moving tables and chairs by dragging them across the floor instead of lifting them!Although there were plenty of staff about constantly passing our table they were not at all attentive to us but more preoccupied with preparations for the evening’s event. We had to ask for more jam and cream for the scones (as that supplied was woefully inadequate for 4 people) as well as for more tea.On a positive note, the standard of sandwiches and cakes was very nice and good value for money, but our whole experience was spoilt by the unacceptable atmosphere and ambience (or rather lack of it!)My sister and I complained to a male member of staff when settling the bill but felt this fell on deaf ears and that he was not at all interested and only tried to make feeble excuses. We didn’t even receive an apology! Throughout the time we were there we just felt like we were an inconvenience and getting in the way of their preparations. I suggested that if in future they have such events then it would only be polite to put a notice on their website so that when booking online (as I had done) people would be aware and could then make an informed decision as to whether to book or not. If I had known we would be sitting in the bar and not the conservatory I would never have booked.This was supposed to be a special treat for my Mother’s birthday, however the the whole experience was ruined by these events. I will certainly think twice before visiting again!

The restaurant is delightful but my meal was terrible. Listed as bubble and squeak with poached eggs and Caerphilly cheese. The bubble and squeak was lumpy potato with uncooked mange- tout in it! No crispy crust and no flavour. The poached eggs were perfect.

I was here many years ago when it was under a different name, the new(ish) owners have done a superb job, it is beautiful inside and out, with service and food to match, zero complaints about anything. Very good range of drinks and we went for mussels and both the different pies, one steak and ale, and the other chicken ham and leek and this is elevated pub food, very healthy portions of meat and cooked to perfection. I kept an eye on other people's food being delivered and it all looks excellent. This is an a la Carte setting and standard but to have normal elevated pub-style food like this was a pleasant surprise.

Good vegetarian options for both starter and main, but both the meat and veggie courses were superbly cooked, very well seasoned. Bubble and squeak might sound a little unimaginative but it was superb, full of flavour and very well presented. Friendly personable staff. Fairly priced.

Fantastic night, from the Prosecco to the mince pie - beautiful. The service, attention to detail, the quality of the food and wine was superb. We'll be back!!

We were celebrating surviving the flooding River Wye and chose to eat at the often recommended Foyles in Glasbury. We were initially impressed with the subtle decor, not lavish but welcoming. The service was excellent and our veggie dishes were imaginative, tasty and brilliantly presented. As for the desserts? Again a delight on the plate and subtlety flavoured. We’ll definitely return in the spring. One observation: the font and the presentation of the overall menu shown at the reception desk is inappropriate, more like a cheaper cafe and gives the wrong impression of the quality of every aspect of the experience

Foyles is a beautiful contemporary restaurant where we were made very welcome. Their 3 course lunch was absolutely delicious and excellent value for money. Everything was freshly cooked with seasonal produce and the portion sizes were generous.

Myself and my partner stayed here for 2 nights and do not have a bad thing to say about our visit. The room was modern and clean, with water and teas provided. The breakfast was delicious with a choice of continental and cooked food. The waitress was very friendly. We also ate here for an evening meal and would recommend you book ahead if you’d like a table. Our meals were delicious and very filling. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning here ASAP!

We were on holiday and in the area - walked in with our dog having just spent the past couple of hours mooching along the riverbank and surrounding area.

The restaurant at Foyles is very pleasant and welcoming. The food generally was very good (the steak pie was salty) and nicely presented. The service was excellent. However, the portions were small and a little over-priced. Despite having 2 courses my friends and I left still feeling hungry and a little disappointed.

One of our favourite places to grab a bar meal, or Sunday lunch. Great staff, beautiful place, hard to go wrong. Bit pricy on the drinks but a really good selection of whatever you want. Highly recommended.

Had lunch at Foyles with some friends are had a really delicious meal. The place is light and airy - some people have complained about the size of the portions but I thought they were fine (and I'm a real foodie). Great place and I would recommend it to anyone.

We phoned on the off chance and they fitted us in and treated us wonderfully. The meal was one of the best we've ever had anywhere, the tastes and textures sublime. Certainly worth a few extra pounds. Very attentive waiting staff.

Came here for a family meal. Lots of parking available. Great service. Food was ok, nothing too special, but was nice. Only downside is this fad of serving the vegetables half cooked. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer them cooked throughly.

Went here for a special occasion. The place seemed welcoming, the staff were quite nice and attentive. But its very simple, it's far too expensive for what you get - the food really isn't that good! I had the steak with peppercorn sauce (which just tasted bland). Had to pay extra for chips - which were like bullets. They did to be fair give us a free round of drinks for the bullet chips. But just not worth the money at all!

We stopped for drinks in the early evening and found a very interesting selection at the bar. Would be a lovely venue for sitting in the sun and people watching, but a large group put paid to that.

Our three children treated us ,as a Christmas gift to a two night break at Foyles Hotel in Glasbury, Powys. We used this gift last week and it truly was a real treat. We were aware of the wonderful reputation Foyles had as our daughter had visited and eaten at the restaurant, indeed it was this visit that prompted the "gift". The visit, even the pre-visit , during the booking proved to be "quality service".

Some friends had booked a celebration dinner at this beautiful renovated pub now a hotel in Glasbury. It was a gorgeous sunny afternoon so the terrace and garden were full of people enjoying the atmosphere. We were greeted immediately by the friendly staff and after a mixup with the room I was upgraded to a larger one...lucky me! The furnishings and decor at the hotel are just lovely, quite quirky but perfect. The hotel looks brand new as was spotlessly clean, all the rooms (I checked a few others!) were immaculate, lovely toiletries, big fluffy towels. Only thing missing was air conditioning but this is Wales after all.

A quiet lunch to meet with relative. A warm welcome. The food was thoroughly enjoyable and the service first class. The Restaurant is spotless, light and airy and there was plenty of room to have a comfortable chat and a relaxing break. As it was lunch we appreciated the fast service as we had other commitments in the afternoon. The meal and drinks were very reasonable. We have visited Foyles four or five times and the high standard has remained the same.Thank you to ALL the staff. we will be returning.

A lovely restaurant in an lovely village not far from the river Wye. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Very clean establishment and very nicely laid out. A good and varied menu selection and great food presentation. Overall great service and food.

Excellent. We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we returned for a second evening. We ate steak pie with crispy crust, and delicious seaa bream amongst other delights. Choice of veg was unusual, including kale and spinach. Thiis a handy drive out from Hay-on-Wye (about 8 miles).

Love going to foyles for a meal..customer service is excellent,staff friendly, food fab...never disappointed

Absolutely beautiful place to chill and relax with friends.... gorgeous afternoon tea with stunning cakes ....there was 10 adults and a child and we were made to feel welcome and comfortable... I personally don’t like clotted cream so they quickly got me whipped fresh cream for my scone and provided us with cake boxes to take remaining cakes home to give to partners who had missed to come with us ... all staff friendly and helpful... especially Alice... very polite and professional... will definitely be back again!!!

This was our first visit and it was perfect, lovely atmosphere and excellent food. Hoping to try Sunday lunch soon

We were recommended Foyles so we book a meal ... what a joy to experience this place .. it started with booking the table the lady on the other end had a sense of humour which I like .. walked in the decoration was beautiful the atmosphere was lovely.. I ordered the prawn cocktail out of this world along with fish and chips just lovely... you need to go and visit... I will be back .. staff food excellent xxx
