Went for a roast dinner on bank holiday weekend. The roast was absolutely devious, AJ on the wait team was so lovely and the pub itself is gorgeous. Couldn't recommend more.

Lovely garden to sit in, but staff were rude and we waited half an hour for a panini with not many people in the pub. The panini was also overpriced (about £12) for it to be soggy, cold and tasteless.

We stayed in Lyndhurst inbetween Xmas and new year because we were visiting family. We decided to eat at F&H as it was just down the road from our accommodation and looked cosy. The pub in general has a great feel. As soon as you walk in it feels like a lovely country pub. Had we stopped just to drink, I suspect the review would have been more positive. The food, unfortunately, is below parr based on price vs product. The service was also slow, only two service staff working in the restaurant. Either the food pricing needs to come down, or the quality needs to be improved. Just because you’re located in a nice touristy village doesn’t mean you can offer a second class product for first class money.

I recently stopped by The Fox and Hounds in Lyndhurst during a Christmas event on the high street and near the Community Centre. The pub was quite busy, but we still managed to get a table. The mulled wine was good, and the food was alright. Prices are on the slightly higher side, which is somewhat expected in a popular tourist area. The place was nicely decorated for the festive season, adding to the charm. The staff were very friendly, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A pleasant experience overall at The Fox and Hounds, particularly during the lively Christmas period.

We like this pub and their Sunday roasts are very good and quite big portions but have become a bit too expensive, we are not going that much anymore. The chef definitely can cook, the roast beef is always nice and pink and the sauces are good. The desserts are nice but not special, my partner had a Bakewell slice that was small and cost £9.00 - definitely not worth it. My sticky toffee pud for £7.50 was nicer.

The pub is very nice, lovely inside, the staff were very polite and the food came out in good time but that's where the good times ended. I ordered the Ploughman's, which was described as a sharing meal, for 2. What you get is 1 scotch egg, cut in half, some soggy salt beef, bread that was wet, like it had been defrosted, a pile of wilted rocket and cheese, albeit a good portion of cheese. That was it, for £24 it felt like a big over charge and sub-par food. My mrs ordered a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich, which was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all, the two meals, 2 drinks and 1 soft drink came to nearly £60 and I honestly can't understand how it can be justified, we've eaten better food, multiple courses for less money and enjoyed it more. Maybe we had a bad day there, I don't know, but with other options on the same street I can't imagine ever going back.

We had a family walk on this sunny Sunday over to Lyndhurst for a satisfying Sunday lunch. The Fox and Hounds a large pub in the centre of the village. A satisfying meal in a cosy environment.

Disappointing. Can’t deny the atmosphere is nice. Been coming here for several years when visiting the area. Always had good food and friendly service. Not so good this time. The lad that took my drink and food order was great, polite and friendly. My dish, I was told, after paying, was unavailable. Changed to a different dish (£2 cheaper) and when this turned up, was incomplete. Ordered another pint and asked if my £2 could be taken off the pint. The young girl couldn’t make the decision. Decision? So had to ask another person. Did get a discounted price for my pint, but it seemed so difficult. Don’t want to be personal however it seemed the lights were on but know one was in! Not sure I’d go back again now although my HSB was a decent pint. So sad.

Lovely roast dinner! We weren't able to book a table but think that's because we left it too late, there were however plenty of seats in the bar area of the pub and we were able to order food to the table we had there! The roast was a mountain of delicious food! My partner ordered the burger which he said he enjoyed but he was rather jealous of the Sunday roast dinner after seeing how much food I got! They had board games to play on a table near the front door.

A bit lack lacklustre to be honest, service was very slow despite being the only table in the restaurant, asked for a copy of the children’s menu, on this menu stated the roasts which obviously weren’t available during the week but this is not stated anywhere on the menu. Food was excellent, but when asked for dessert menus the waiter completely forgot and we had to ask again. Just want to also point out that the Bakewell tart on the printed menu is £12.50 yet online it’s £9.50? So essentially 2 according to the menu would be £25, ridiculous.

It was okay, but that’s all I’d say really. Sadly the vegetables I was served looked a little sorry for themselves, the broccoli was boiled within almost an inch of its life and what was labelled a ‘side salad’ was a very small portion of pretty basic lettuce. The cod while beautifully crispy was lacking flavour. The chap serving, while absolutely not rude, was just so nonchalant, he seemed totally unbothered & lacked any apology when an item of the dish was missing. Atmosphere is okay. Had been before a couple of years prior and it was great so it was a shame. Wouldn’t return, just not good enough quality or service especially for the price.

Terrible service and the food wasn't any better. I stood at the bar alone for 10 minutes before a bored female asked me what I wanted. There were three people serving. I asked for a snack of Battered Squid. The female walked away, and started to serve other drinkers. I struggled to get her attention and finally got the attention of another female. She took my order without a smile. I paid with difficulty as the gadget is in the corner of the bar and there was a plethora of stools in the way. I made my way to my table where I waited for 25 minutes for my dish. Other people who had been served after me received their meals long before me. Eventually, I asked someone what had happened to my order. 10 minutes later it arrived. But it was extremely disappointing. Seriously overcooked (really chewy) and cold. It had been sitting cooling for such a long time. This is not a place I would bother to revisit.

Had 2 large vodkas with tap coke which was disgusting, had to send back as they didn’t have proper bottle or can coke. Probably because they make more money using tasteless coke which ruins a good drink. Instead choose 2 large Sauvignon blanc with soda and was charged £13 a glass and to top that off, after giving the bar person £35, I had to ask for the change. Bar Staff should tell customers there's a dangerous step when they direct you to pay for your drinks at the card machine, they let people stumble & laugh that we're not the first to do that, scary ! As regular tourists to Lyndhurst we've been to this pub many times over the years. It used to serve excellent food, but the last couple of times the food has been just so-so. However, I'm sorry to say that the quality of the food we had for our evening dinner there the other night was nothing other than dreadful. We had the "recommended" that was written on a small board next to our table. It said "Smoked Haddock, Jersey potatoes, Spinach, Poached egg and Hollandaise sauce". (Try to picture what you would expect to receive!!) .... fish & egg, sat on a big potato fritta sat on a bed of white cabbage maybe? What was served to us was truly shocking. Our reaction was .. "What's that!!". Delivered to our table were what only can be described as an undercooked, piled up mess, with one totally undercooked. The waitress was very understanding and said would we like something else, but not wanting to complain and upset anyone in the kitchen we decided to eat what we were given in the hope it might taste ok.. how wrong we were. We should have asked for our money back. The jersey potatoes were in fact a big fried potato Fritta and instead of spinach, the whole meal sat on white cabbage!! My wife's fish was quite wet, but she could manage it, but mine was completely undercooked and even she said that's inedible. Her egg was cooked ok, but my egg was so undercooked that parts of the white were transparent, just like out of a raw cracked egg. I do not like to criticise pubs that we've enjoyed in the past and full marks for being doggy friendly, but when you are paying a lot of money for your evening meal, then you'd expect at least two things.. firstly for the meal to be what it says on the menu and secondly, for it to be cooked! Evening ruined. One star.

Great meal and even better staff, especially the young Irish girl. Would highly recommend. Eight of us had a meal there and all were very satisfied.
