Fox & Hounds in Newark and Sherwood

My sister and I went to this place Friday 29th December. I did not book and they managed to get us a table (this was reserved for another party but we had time to have lunch). We got there for 12.00. After that the place started to fill up. The atmosphere was great. The staff were great and the food was delicious. My sister had the Mex tex con carni and I had the curry. We would highly recommend this place - please book it does get busy. Thank you to the staff and great food that we had. We shall be returning with our other halves.

Food nice slightly overpriced but worth money staff polite and helpful, one waitress I believe her name was Summer was extremely helpful when I couldn't find the toilets and helped when I got the wrong food. GIVE THE GIRL A PAYRISE!!!!!!

Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch. They squeezed us in even though they were really busy. Staff very friendly and helpful, from waiting staff to the owners. Food arrived, full plates with extra dishes of vegetables and gravy. Plenty of meat and crackling, and our requests for sauces and extras were met quickly and with a smile. The place was warm and clean. Can’t fault it. Good value Sunday lunch. My aficionado friend said it was the one of the best he’s had.

My family of nine came here a meal.My husband only drinks none alcoholic beer and at £4.30 very expensive compered to elsewhere. Oh and £7.50 glass of wine.The meal was horrible Fish and chips .The battery was burnt to a crisp and there wasn't any fish inside it.The chips were just hard dry bits. The Goulash someone had was sooo salty.The lad with the long hair was so gormless. Just been ripped of spending £200 for lousy food and overpriced 🍸. One small like the place was warm.

Absolutely amazing food and service. The place was packed and they were turning people away, but they still found us a table. There were so many vegetarian and vegan choices on the menu it was a bit overwhelming. I went for the vegetarian Sunday roast with all the trimmings and it was outstanding. Really good value, plates piled high with delicious food. Definitely will go back again.

We received a very welcome, I ordered the Great British Curry which was of excellent quality and value, it consisted of large boneless chicken pieces which were very tender in a creamy and not too hot curry sauce served with rice, warm naan bread, poppadoms, samosas and sweet chutney. My wife had the vegetarian cottage pie with season vegetables and new potatoes. It was a good sized portion being tasty and filling. The staff were polite and professional throughout the meal. The desert menu is varied and would suit all tastes, due to the large main course portions we were unable to have one but would have done if we had not been so full! We will be returning based on the food, service and whole experience in general. Well done all concerned and Thank you!

This place is a real gem. Run by a very efficient Landlady and great staff! All the food is amazing. The portions are large and you will leave stuffed. Would recommend for everyone. Lovely location and good sized car park with disabled access.

A good meeting point when we meet friends for a midweek catch up. The food was lovely ...ranging from Gammon ,Scampi and Beef pie. Felt we was a bit rushed after we d asked for the bill,even though others were still eating in the restaurant. When we split the bill I didn't like it that the waiter rounded our bill up, if we had wanted to tip we would have done! We sat in the garden to continue chatting as we d driven 30 miles for lunch and wasn't ready to move on.

We visit here a few times a year. Love the beer garden. Today we had “posh fish finger sandwich” and WOW it was just amazing. We always get good service, freshly cooked food. Highly recommend.

Very last minute booking and pub accommodated us all with no problems even though they were extremely busy. We were a party of 6 adults and 3 very young children. Landlady was amazing. She went out of her way to be as helpful as possible. Very attentive service from two other members of staff who kept asking us if we needed more drinks even though we were right beside the bar. Excellent food, very generous portions too. Wonderful evening. Post dinner chocolate treats for the children too.

Excellent food,freshly cooked and fitted us in with only half an hours notice. Nice big portions too my daughters can highly recommend the chocolate fudge cake for dessert

One thing that I have found from experience is that you pay a few pounds more, you get a much better quality product. The fox and hounds demonstrate this point well. Nice ingredients cooked well tasty and enjoyable, combined with good service, and you have a winner. The only negative I can proffer is that a window was closed by a football team official, they were presenting awards, and therefore had a reasonable reason to close it, unfortunately this made where we were sat a little too warm.

It was first time I had visited this pub. The staff were very welcoming and had a good selection of vegetarian dishes. I chose the cheese, sweet potato & leek pie. Generous portion & delicious especially the pastry . I would definitely recommend this

Really enjoyable Saturday lunchtime meal with friends. Well served at a reasonable price, in a lovely pub with great views. The five of us had two courses each with drinks….Starters we had were the baked Camembert for 2, Pate , mushrooms and prawn cocktail. The Camembert was superb served in a lovely ceramic dish with various different breads, silver skin onions, chutney and a balsamic dip. The prawn cocktail was equally superb with so many prawns! Pate was described as a main meal in itself! For mains We had the Fish pie, Black and Blue Burgers, a Blid’th Burger and a Lasagne. Fish pie was was lovely, a sort of deconstructed fish pie beautifully presented as were the burgers…only slight let down was the Lasagne which was a little dry. All the meals were very large and our healthy appetites were more than satisfied. With a couple of drinks each the bill was just under £30 each. Highly recommended
