We had a great Sunday lunch takeaway today, all piping hot and cooked perfectly. The belly pork was melt in the mouth, lovely fresh veg and homemade Yorkshire pudding, tasty gravy and a side of cauliflower cheese what a treat.Thank you Tracie for fitting us in at short notice.

I write this to review with hesitation do it comes in two parts. The first part is what I read on the back of the menu stating that children weren’t really welcome I was appalled to read this although it doesn’t outrightly say it they state that where them out prior it visiting. Keep them under control and much more. My family eat out at some very famous pubs, restaurants and hotel ( Michelin star ) and we have never ever been made unwelcome which the introduction to this pub made us feel. The second part the service staff and food were lovely and the weather to fit too. However I had traveled from Lancashire and receive a written welcome like this was disappointing and very upsetting so I will not be visiting again. Please re think your welcome message as most families visiting will feel the same way. You have obviously experienced bad behaviour but I can assure you that not all families are the same.

We first visited 2 weeks ago and just had a couple of drinks and nibbles. We were very well looked after and wanted to come back for a full meal. Our party of four had kebabs (far better than the stuff you get at 11pm from takeaways), veggie pizza and lamb hotpot and they were really good. Add in beer (Doom Bar) that had been well looked after and was excellent and it made for a superb visitThe Fox And Hounds is a pub we have passed many times before without going there and we have realised now just how good it is

This is my second review of the Fox and Hounds - I visited twice last summer, had a lovely takeaway over Christmas, and decided to visit this week to eat outside. They have an outdoor menu at the moment, which while being a little bit smaller than the normal inside menu has a great range of light bites and larger meals. Also, if you’re vegetarian don’t worry as although we couldn’t see any options on the online menu for our vegetarian member of the party, when we rang to book they were reassuring that they did have some, and they had two lovely sounding options when we got there, as well as a veggie pizza too. I had the seafood chowder which was absolutely lovely, full of lovely fish and seafood cooked perfectly and with great flavour. The rest of the party had a veggie pizza and the Lancaster lamb hot pot and all were very impressed. Couldn’t resist the mango cheesecake for desert as well! It’s rare to find a pub where pretty much everything is home made, and this is definitely one to support over larger chains now that pubs have re-opened.

We initially came here as it was part of the eat out to help out scheme in August, we had always meant to go in the past but had never got round to it. We actually ended up coming back the next week as we were so impressed, and I’ll definitely be coming back in the future! I had the slow roast pork belly on both visits, which I definitely recommend. The menu is small, but varied, with plenty of choice and a good variety of vegetarian options on both the menu and specials board. Food was very reasonably priced for the quality (mains varied between about £12-17). My favourite thing of all was that pretty much everything there is home made, there’s nothing worse than going somewhere, paying restaurant prices for a desert, and then recognising it from Costco etc! But no chance of that here, I tried the creme brûlée which was lovely, I also saw a cheesecake go past that looked incredible, so i will definitely be back to try that too.

We were visiting the area, and pre-booked a table for two on Friday evening on a TripAdvisor recommendation, & we were not disappointed! The food is prepared and cooked on site, so we were prepared for the 30 minute delay before the dinners arrived. There is a full and well varied menu available. For me the curry is to be recommended - not hot, but very very tasty & to my total satisfaction. The dessert sponge pudding was a ‘must’ for both my wife and myself. Our visit was during difficult COVID times, & some confusion exists as to when and if the Fox & Hounds is open for business. Facebook gave it as open, the F&H website listed it as closed! I would encourage anyone wanting an excellent pub hospitality lunch or dinner to contact Rachel at the Fox & Hounds directly to book a table for a really enjoyable meal.May we offer our special thanks to Rachel for making us welcome when we visited....

Haven’t been here for years so thought we’d give it a go. I was optimistic when I saw “award winning food” on a sign outside. The staff were lovely so it’s not their fault but some of the food was awful. When I eventually got my fish and chips cause it got missed off the order somehow it wasn’t very appealing. Fish was like cardboard and the mushy peas were more like pea soup. I tried to eat most of it simply because I was starving but it was very tasteless. The meatballs and swordfish special were apparently lovely and had no complaints over that end of the table but the lamb was very tough, the pizza look burnt and the other fish and chips was well see previous comments. The table we sat at was VERY dark at one point I was struggling to see my food so some more lighting is needed! Either way improvements are needed, I’m so glad the eat out to help out offer was on because I wouldn’t have paid full price for it

So so pleased that this place is open again (despite the website saying it is still closed). As always we were warmly greeted and the new face behind the bar (Emily) was a breathe of fresh air; her and the waitress were friendly & efficient and kept everyone at a safe distance without it loosing any of its warmth. As always Tracey worked her magic in the kitchen & the imaginative menu reflected the produce in season. Hubby loved the Moroccan style lamb kebab starter & kidney main course whilst I enjoyed the lamb & wonderful black pudding mash. Thank goodness it is raspberry season again as hubby has waited a year for another raspberry bread & butter pudding - he wasn't disappointed. I always pass on pudding unless it is chocolate, so the double chocolate cheesecake was a must....and it was delicious without being too sweet. It was good to see the pub full & the practice of booking tables at 15 mins intervals was perfect for making people able to safe distance and for the staff to be able to take drink & food orders. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment, they were fully booked for the night when we were there on a Wednesday & turned down at least 7 phone calls during our visit. Thanks for a beautiful meal in a relaxed & safe environment, we have already booked our next meal.

We thought the food here was really lovely, as a large party we pretty much ordered most of it and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, lovely and fresh and innovative dessert menu. Good value, nice cosy surroundings, a log burner and nicely dressed for Christmas. Our only niggle was the ‘rules’ on the back of the menu which took us aback a bit and set the tone for the afternoon which was a real shame. There is a whole paragraph about ‘children must not be rude, crawl around the legs of waitresses etc...’ which was frankly a bit odd. Lots of gastropubs state ‘well behaved children are welcome’ which is more than suffice but to go into such detail was, we felt, was a bit unwelcoming. We had a couple of children in our party, who are always well behaved and we always carry things to keep them quietly entertained but after reading this we did feel like we had to tread on egg shells. 2 girls served us were lovely but a 3rd lady who took the order and was working behind the bar was a bit of a sour puss so I wonder if she’d had some bad experiences. On this basis I wouldn’t recommend anyone visiting with family but for a group of adults it’s fine.

We were a group of four who decided to try the Fox and Hounds for Sunday lunch. We arrived and were promptly shown to our table. Our bar order was taken straight away by the lovely and attentive lady behind the bar. When the drinks were delivered we were asked if we were ready to order our meals. A notice on the blackboard stated that meals could take 25 mins to be served which is always a good sign that food is individually cooked and not microwaved. The food was delivered by a lovely, polite and attentive young waitress who looked after us for the remainder of our meal. The Sunday roasts were great, hot plates and plenty of meat and vegetables. The desserts were yummy, do try the rice pudding with mixed fruit jam - delicious. We had a fantastic meal at a really reasonable price. Do take advantage of the free car park immediately across the road from the pub rather than trying to park outside of the pub front door. Many thanks to the Management and staff of the Fox and Hounds for a great afternoon. We will visit again.

6 of us visited for a 3 course birthday celebration lunch. Rachel was very welcoming and gave us great service. She was attentive without being overbearing. Between us we chose various meals from the menu choices and specials board and everything was cooked and presented beautifully. It is so good to receive a meal which has not been pinged in a microwave. It is impossible to recommend a specific meal as it is all so good but our choices included soup, bread and olives and Welsh rarebit for starters, chicken, meat pie and belly pork for mains and mixed berry crumble, chocolate brioche bread and butter pudding, plain traditional bread and butter pudding and ice cream for dessert. It was really nice as well for Tracey who cooks all the beautiful food to come out of the kitchen and chat with us. There are a couple of points we could make as constructive criticism but certainly not complaint as we all thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and they are that it was a bit cool in the building and also we are a family with asbestos throats and a couple of us thought that whilst certainly not cold the meal could have done with being a tad warmer. Please do not let this deter you from paying them a visit as for most people I am sure it would have been perfect. Thank you Tracey and Rachel for a lovely meal and pleasant attentive service

Having visited the pub for Saturday lunches twice in the last month, I only might visit again if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way for it. At both visits the dining room was really cold, too cold to be entirely comfortable, maybe nice in summer but doesn't make it cosy in winter. During first visit we were the only ones eating but food was nice and staff very friendly. The friendliness of staff was equally pleasant during second visit, this time there were two more tables occupied but it was still a bit empty. Unhappily, this time the food wasn't great. The pie was filled with thin watery liquid, certainly not gravy, and tasted really watery and not nice at all. So, I had to send it back and as the other family members were already eating, I ended up without lunch! As I had barely touched my food they obviously could not charge for it but that was the extent of their handling of the situation. The liver that my son had was also a bit dry, not inedible like the pie, but could be better, liver is easily overcooked. So, whilst I think the pub has potential, I wouldn't per se trust that at the next visit all the food was nice again like during first visit. Pity as we live not too far but I rather go to another pub where I can trust that all the dishes are edible.

I have eaten here more times than I can recall and it has never failed to deliver. Firstly, and as always, a warm welcome was guaranteed by Rachel who was as always friendly and very welcoming. It’s lovely to have a place where the bar and restaurant are separate as we had pre dinner drinks in the bar before we ate. A really lovely gin and chilli concoction was created by Rachel and we were never rushed as we relaxed in the bar area. The restaurant was quiet (unsurprising for the second weekend after Christmas!) so we sat near the fireplace. We were given plenty of time to order from the not unsizsble memu; the balsamic onions and cheese nibbles were simply divine and it is only through sheer greed as opposed to any criticism I say that I wish there had been more! The sea bass with lime and chilli was the perfect size for a starter; flaky white fish and a perfectly cooked crispy skin: a combination which some of the so -called ‘star rated’ restaurant chefs often can’t achieve! The pork belly was melt in your mouth stuff, with a generous portion of crackling, very tasty mash and sticky red cabbage. My dining companion raved about the steak and ale pie( it sure looked the business with a golden top crust and steaming beef filling and smelt outrageously good!). We were too full for sweet so retired to finish the very drinkable merlot in the bar; again, no rush or drama to get us out.

Called in today (Friday afternoon) and it was closed (most local pubs open all day Friday through the weekend). The door was unlocked and the lights on but was told inside that it was closed. Not a problem but when I enquired if dogs were allowed I was told very nicely, no. That’s the decision of the owners but I feel that as it’s rural and on a lovely walking route that they are missing out on some great custom. I love walking my dogs and they love to call in the pub with me. Most landlords in the area even have dog treats behind the bar. The Fox and Hounds has a nice area to the right of the bar which is ideal for drop in customers with dogs. Come on landlord - get with it, local pubs need all the custom they can get to stay alive. We were happy to walk on to the Queens Head at Little Eaton where we had two bottles of wine and a great meal, your loss.

Have visited here a few times and have always been extremely impressed. The food is incredible and the Sunday dinner is one of the best I’ve ever had! The pork belly is out of this world. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly on every visit and were very knowledgeable about both the menu and range of drinks (try all the different gins :D) Will be back again soon to get my fish’n’chip fix.

Been before and has been good but due to what appeared to be a lack of staff, Saturday evening was very disappointing. Barmaid hadn't a clue and struggled with the till and when we paid up was giving customers the wrong copy of their credit card receipt, big no no! One girl waiting on all the tables! Food was OK but no more than that, will not be rushing back.

Visited with a group of 8 friends, as we have been wanting to try this place for a long time. We were asked to let the restaurant know in advance our orders, so that we would get what we wanted. Well, we were not disappointed. The meal, service and staff were all excellent and could not be faulted in any way. One of our party was delayed by a considerable length of time, but once they arrived they received their ordered meal without any problem.

Since moving to this neck of the woods, we have visited here for food quite often. The quality of the food is outstanding and the atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. We regularly opt for the camembert starter (my favourite) and there is always a good choice of main meals. As someone who doesn't eat a lot of meat, it is nice to have an 'original' vegetarian meal, rather than a halloumi or falafel burger ;) I always look forward to seeing the bi-monthly menus! They serve a good selection of drinks, including various gins. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. During our last couple of visits, we have been particularly impressed with the excellent service provided by Tom, which is one of the reasons I was prompted to write a review. We have yet to try a Sunday roast but have heard that they are very good! I look forward to trying one soon!

Was taken here when in the area. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. Nice atmosphere with a good pint of beer and pleasant food. I had the smoked salmon starter followed by the belly pork and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was quite inexpensive for three of us and I was pleasantly surprised. Good car park.

Had an absolutely fantastic meal today, Tiger Prawns in Tomato Broth for starters and I had Steak & Ale Pie and my partner had Beer Battered Haddock and Chips with homemade Mushy Peas. All the food was cooked to perfection and immaculately presented, have been here many times before and will definitely be going back very soon, well done!!

It's been a while since our last visit and we didn't have a great experience last time. Don't think we will be back. For these prices we would expect a better meal than you would get from a 3663 (out the back of a lorry) type chain pub. Stuff missing from the dishes and limp vegetables. We really want our Derby pubs to thrive. However, I fear for this one? Sorry. Just the barmaid on service so no management to speak to?

I visited the Fox and Hounds last week after having spent a couple weeks trying new pubs and restaurants all around Derby area. The service and quality were excellent. To my delight, I visited on pie night and got to have an amazing home-made pork and apple pie. I highly recommend this gem and will be back!

Set a short distance from the A38 in the tiny village of Coxbench, the Fox and Hounds was a spontaneous choice for a spot of late lunch at around 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. It was almost joyous to stumble across such superb food and efficient, professional and welcoming service.

Visited with family for a Friday evening meal. On the whole the food and service were Ok, little more. The service was good but the food was rather bland and tasteless. There was plenty of it and very hot however, it was all rather tasteless. The burger was better and prabably the best dish. The beef pie was full of beef but had almost no taste. Therefore I rated a fair / 3 out of five. Would we return ? Possibly but not in a hurry.

We came here a number of years ago for a pre-meal drink with relatives and were recently recommended the Fox and Hounds by friends and their family who had been extremely impressed with their evening meal. We decided to give it a try for a Mothers' Day lunch and were not disappointed: all three courses were delicious - nothing was too much trouble and served by friendly yet professional staff in and welcoming surroundings. We will certainly visit again.

The Fox and Hounds is our "go to" place for a relaxing, good quality meal, so it was our first choice for my husband's "big birthday" family meal. On this occasion, we were a party of seventeen (plus a baby) and I can honestly say that the staff couldn't have done more for us. From booking to goodbyes, it was a perfect experience for everyone. Friendly staff, excellent service, delicious and plentiful food ensured that everyone in our party had a wonderful time. A big thank you to the whole team at the Fox and Hounds!

I went to the F&H; for a meal out with my husband. We were met by a very welcoming barmaid who really knew her stuff and served us each a great quality, well presented Gin & Tonic (with all the trimmings). The menu selection was fantastic and the food was also presented really well and with great attention to detail. I had a really refreshing and summery chicken & mango salad. Fantastic food, great staff and an awesome bar! Definitely worth a visit.

Picked from a selection on Tripadvisor, we picked well. A quiet midweek night but there were others dining too. Friendly welcome. Set in a small village and definitely needed the Sat nav in the dark! Varied menu offering something more than the usual run of the mill pub food. Partner had belly pork and declared it the best he'd had for a while. Lovely fresh veg. We shared a pud as servings were plentiful, ginger & lime bread n butter pudding gorgeous. Only one point deducted for the cold draft round ankles when door opened but it is February after all! Would like to see this one in the summer or a busy night as an improved ambience would probably lift my rating.

I love the Fox and Hounds and have been going often for years. The feel of the place is very friendly, relaxed and a 5 star service. I often go for coffee or for a drink on a friday night and find its a super cosy place, especially when the log burner is on on a Saturday afternoon whilst its cold outdoors. The service is always quick and efficient and done politely with a smile at all times. In the summer its nice being able to eat outdoors on their decking in handmade pallet chairs and tables which adds a country/modern touch to the pub whilst watching over the horses in the field opposite with peaceful countryside surrounding you.

Another fantastic trip to the Fox for Sunday lunch. We didnt have all three courses as we wanted to save ourselves for the chefs fabulous home made puds...hubby had delicious traditional roast beef and i had the chicken with stuffing ...all served piping hot with all the trimmings, plenty of fresh veg, yorkshire pud (clearly home made) and roasties. Previously there had been a handmade choc basket filled to explosive proportions with fruit and ice cream, my hubby cheekily asked if there were any available as it wasnt on the dessert menu, i have never seen a man so happy when his wish was granted!! I opted for the pana cotta which is my favourite. Another superb lunch.. thank you Fox and Hounds team.

Came here with my friends this week and absolutely loved it! Rachel behind the bar sorted us out and was so friendly and welcoming and chef Tracie welcomed us with opening arms! The food was all home made, nothing like other pubs in the area. It was that nice we tried the Sunday lunch the following week which was even better! We had beef and pork which comes with mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and an array of vegetables; and the gravy, wow, you can’t beat it!

Booked a table for 4 for a lunchtime meal (it took several attempts to book as the person answering phone did not understand how to use the booking technology) We arrived at the arranged time to find no table available for 4 people as the person behind the bar had not checked the days bookings. Fortunately a couple offered to move to a smaller table so that we could be seated. Pre lunch drinks were ordered and out G&T arrived minus ice or slice. When queried, we were informed the ice machine was broken. We were offered a bar snack menu only with a choice consisting of mainly chicken pasta or fish and chips. No desserts or coffee. The service was painfully slow and the whole experience was extremely disappointing. Don't visit at lunchtime if you want a nice meal.

This pub is simply special, the prices are extremely competitive but that is overshadowed by the service. Very attentive staff, welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and the locals are more than happy to engage in conversation. This really is a gem in the middle of town. Music, TV, sports, it has it all. Well worth popping in and saying hello to Ryan who will make sure you have a pleasant visit.

Turned up on spec. By accident actually. Parked dead easy. Nice welcome. We were found a suitable table. Great food - although a small booboo with the order resulted in us waiting a short while - but nothing excessive at all. We had the Lasagne and the Gammon. As I said - both great. Thankyou Jason, Matt and the young lady who brought our drinks at lightning speed. We will be back.
