Fowlds Cafe in Southwark

I have been visiting the cafe on and off for 5 years now. It had always been a lovely place to eat and drink coffee with friends, but sadly the staff have become incredibly rude and unwelcoming. They refused me a sandwich, even though I was in the queue before 3 (when apparently they stop serving) and were very pompous in the way they mumbled “food stopped at 3”. You’re a small independent cafe that should really be a bit kinder to your locals. It’s not hard to find some staff who don’t look and act like they can’t be bothered to be there. Staff used to be so welcoming and lovely.

Amazing space, although it’s tiny it’s very welcoming. The team are always really nice & chatty. The coffee is the best in the area and food offerings are delish. Always feel really welcomed and valued. Keep up the good work team fowlds.

great local coffee shop - nice hipster vibe. would recommend, good coffee and a selection of pastries in a converted upholsters

The coffee was not as good as I remember, not sure what sort of milk they were using. The bread is lovely. Pity they were out of chutney.

Nice little coffee shop with extra helping and kind staff. They serve very tasty coffee and the sweets are very delicious. Raccomend.

A veces me ve a Fowlds durante el fin de semana. Been popping into this small coffee shop alone during the week and with a group of friends after park runs on Saturdays. Every time, it appears that the staff are becoming more and more arrogant, not dedicated and do not want our business.

Last month I moved to the zone 1/2 district of Walworth (known as Elephant and Castle to you North Londoners) mainly to find cheap rent in a central area. As a hip fashionista (read as obnoxious gentrifying tool) I decided to hunt out little cafe pit-stops where I could read about post-communist nations and make banal posts about an abandoned scooter (re-read as obnoxious gentrifying tool).

Very good coffee, tasty pastries and freshly made sandwiches. Tiny place full of character. Staff are likeable, friendly, prices are about average for high quality coffee and fresh sourdough sandwiches. Nice outside terrace. Very relaxing place and relaxing location away from the nearby busy road.

Fowlds has amazing food, great staff and a lovely atmosphere. It's our favourite cafe in Camberwell, perfect for a quick and relaxed coffee or a yummy breakfast/lunch. It's tiny but we always get a seat.

Great service. Despite size always accommodating. Good value menu. Sandwiches amazing. And all in a fabulous setting.

I am a regular in the cafes of SE London and this is the BEST! Genuinely authentic rustic decor, with so many bits and bobs to look at which seem to have accumulated over the years rather than been sourced and placed. The BEST grilled cheese and ham sandwich I have ever tasted. Better than any of the Bermondsey cafes!!! If you like Gordon's wine bar, then you will like this cafe!!!!!!

I live locally and get coffee from here regularly. I haven't eaten here (mainly for the reasons stated below) but the cakes look absolutely delicious and a great range of gluten/dairy free options. Coffee is usually great, occasionally they have an off day. My reason for not giving more stars is the painfully slow service most of the time. Granted it is a small cafe but with the number of staff they should be able to keep up. I've worked in much larger places with the same number of staff with no problems. While the staff are generally happy and friendly, they are very often too involved in their own personal discussions with each other to give great service and while waiting for my coffee (and I have to wait a lot, even when its quiet) I've witnessed many unhappy customers with missing/wrong/late orders. The food also doesn't look amazing value for money which is why I haven't been tempted to go here for breakfast or lunch even though it is very close. It regularly seems a bit of a shambles which is such a shame as it could be really special with a bit more of a focus on great, efficient, accurate customer service. It is also a little on the pricey side at £2.70 for a small takeaway coffee that is sometimes not even full. However it is great to have good coffee available in an area fairly scarce in this department!

We were there a bit late not so many choices for us to order, so we lets them decided whatever have for us , very impressed with their service and their all smiley faces, lovely atmosphere for chatting and cozy ....I don't mind to go there everyday myself and don't forget to spare space for dessert at least even for their yogurt with come with fresh fruit and multi seeds...love it!!

Been there twice and both times left speechless (and very happy) - had absolutely amazing lunches there. The food, the stuff and place are wonderful. Aubergine tart and stout brownie are must try! So unfortunate that I am in Camberwell so randomly - would have my lunch there every day!

This is a great little gem just off the Walworth Road. Great coffee and lovely simple food. In contrast to other review the staff is always friendly and helpful.A very happy customer.

the coffee is lovely, but can you please ask your staff t put on gloves when they making sandwiches, and wash their hands regularly especially after coughing or taking payments of coins and cash from customers?

I'll admit that I'm partial to 'hole in the wall' places, and this certainly qualifies. Built into the front of an upolstry shop it is a small café, but busy on both my stops. After tasting the food I can understand why. The coffee easily beats any nearby chain (not difficult I'll admit), but the pastries are the best I've had outside of France. I wish I was around to try their Thursday/Friday night coctails.

I've got mixed reviews about this coffee place. One day staff is here extremely happy and polite, next day staff are dreadful and despairing. No "Hi" - forget about the "smile". Customers service rather disappointing. Coffee here is tasty, you can sense freshness.

We had a lovely lunch here today! Soup and sourdough bread were really delicious! Good coffee (albeit small!) lovely atmosphere, they even provided blankets for us to wrap up in so we could sit outside in the cold March sun!

A nice spot to take a break from your daily activities. The food is delicious and everything is from local suppliers; moreover the food is adjustable to any diet (gluten free etcetera). Definitely coming back again!

Had a toasted sandwich on very rustic and almost overly crunchy bread and a rather large flapjack (could easily have shared it as it was very sweet) but would go back for the pure charm of the cafe itself, probably seating no more than 15-20 inside and out it is a real Camberwell gem and great for a post run/tennis/stroll snack and/or drink from Burgess Park just around the corner.

Finding this little Cafe in a side street saved me. Breakfast is such a treat. The most delicious coffee and breakfast choices. Charming staff and the opportunity to see craftsmen at work in the upholsterers behind the cafe. Delightful. a bonus if the sun is shining and you can sit outside. mainly frequented by interesting locals.

Great little cafe for a swift Soy Flat White next to the park. They also have some yummy-looking Veggie and Vegan option food and have a late-ish license for booze.

What an astounding place, hidden in a quiet street in Camberwell and attached to the frontage of an upholsterers... beautiful decor and attractive external features a resounding success in the aesthetics department. The coffee range was superb and they make a mean delicious Piccolo served with a Pastel-de-Nata (Custard tart) what a perfect mid morning break. The staff were friendly, informative and genuine what more could you ask, in fact I intend to travel there and make it a reason to get the train on a Sunday morning just to chill out on the pavement seating area. Sophisticated and cool and friendly that is what Fowlds cafe genuinely offers visitors.
