We went for Sunday lunch for partners birthday with daughter & family. Very popular so had to book. A bit cramped inside as very old building. Very nice traditional lunch with plenty of choice & lots of veg. Helpful & friendly. No parking but was plenty across the road. We would go again.

We booked for dinner at The Fountain on Graduation day for our daughter, there wasn't any need to book really as the restaurant was deserted. This should have been a bit of a clue. The staff were friendly enough but the place is dated and maybe a little bit more time spent by staff on cleaning wouldn't go amiss. The food was of very poor quality, chips tasting of dirty/ burnt oil. Fish and chips at £9.95 consisting of these chips and supermarket type battered fish portions, was very hard to swallow in more ways than one. The burger meals are served on a slate that is way too small, which in no way improves the food and makes it difficult to eat, looking back this was probably a bit of a godsend. As I said the staff were friendly but following service they became very distant, although none of the party of 8 complained at the time due to not wishing to spoil the occasion for my daughter. This is just our experience of The Fountain, and I see they have quite decent reviews, which led me to book there, but I wouldn't go again.

Whenever we don't fancy cooking Sunday lunch this is the place we go to eat. The best Sunday roast we've come accross and the only problem is to book a table in time as it's very, very popular. The variety of vegetables are too lovely for our own good and none of them are prepared in our usual way. They mix cream and finely chopped leeks with the cabbage, and the cauliflower cheese is gorgeous as are all the veges - more selection than anywhere else we've been. Lovely ladies serving too - such a pleasure to eat there.

We booked at less than a week's notice for two families totalling 4 adults and 4 small kids. We were met by a lovely member of staff, colouring packs for the kids and a lovely welcome. Food was faultless, very tasty, brilliant portions, and quite quick to be served. Great options on the menu, plenty excellent choice for vegetarians too. The kids all ate well and filled up.Homemade puddings were divine! We'll be back for sure. Best Sunday dinner in Aber!

Having travelled to Aberystwyth many times over the years , I had never been to this pub ,even though I was aware of it , but how pleasantly surprised I was once I got there . Fairly quiet but it was early , good variety of drinks available & the table was ready for us. There were 6 of us & we all plumped for a traditional Sunday roast . I had a Lamb shank with mint gravy , while the others had roast Beef. Waited only for about 10 -15 minutes, then all the dishes came out together , so no waiting . The side vegetables were served in bowls , so you could help yourself, again loved that & more importantly, all the food was piping hot . Extra gravy was also given to us & I must say all the plates were empty at the end .great value for money & the waitress was friendly & engaging to us all . Will definitely be returning next time I’m in Wales .

I went there with a party of people and everybody were served together and the meals were quite diverse. I ordered a fillet steak which was served on a hot stone which kept your steak warm as well as cooking it to your taste. Gimmicky was my first impression but I was wrong it was an excellent way of getting the steak the way you want it. Great food and I would recomend a visit.

Had Sunday lunch at this venue recently and what a fantastic meal. I am an Aberystwyth person originally and passed this place many many times without ever going in. What a pleasant surprise when at last I did, having been invited for a family lunch. Had my host not booked I doubt we would have got in. The staff are very friendly and the food was superb. I had roast beef, a huge portion served with the largest selection of really well cooked vegetables I think I have ever seen. Will definitely be back but will make sure I book ahead. Really excellent. A big thank you to to all the staff for the excellent service.

I was invited by friends for Sunday lunch, having never been before but read the reviews I did not think I would be disappointed. The service was excellent and although the restaurant was full we did not have long to wait for our meal. I had the Prawn Cocktail to start which was really good. This was followed by the Roast beef which there was plenty on the plate and an excellent variety of vegetables to go with the meal all well presented and tasted really good. The Apple Crumble and Custard was a very good end to an excellent meal. I will say that i really thing you have to book for Sunday Lunch as I saw a few people turned away because they were fully booked.

We were on holiday in Borth the weekend and fancied a Sunday lunch out! Found this pub on TripAdvisor, compared against others and wow!! It was lovely! By far one of the nicest Sunday lunches I have had in a long time!! I have to admit, I would never (ever) have stopped at it by chance as from the outside it looks nothing. We went in the bar entrance at first, which again looked nothing and I was really worried we had made a mistake. But going into the other half where the restaurant is completely changed my mind.

Recently visited the Fountain Inn for a Works christmas meal and only had one course of the three offered on the christmas menu as I the menu was not to my taste and being vegetarian adds extra problems for me. The food was satisfactory although a bit cold, everyone else seemed to enjoy their food so I was not too bothered and ate it quickly as i was starving! When I came to pay the lady on the bar kindly told me I had to pay for two courses, even though I only ordered one as they only offer two or three course meals.. So i begrudgingly paid after pointing out I was not told about this. I recommend you avoid unless you want to get ripped off, it is overpriced as it is for what you could get elsewhere, let alone having to pay for a course I never ate. Enjoy your christmas on me. Thank god I only drank water.

We went as a family for a Sunday roast and I must say it was the best two course meal I've had.A seafood starter consisted of a very generous amount of battered prawns, calamari and scampi (I can't remember exactly). They were by far the most delicious battered seafoods I have ever tried. The roast itself was in my eyes unbeatable. Different gravy for each type of meat, an abundance of all vegetables and a cauliflower cheese that is second to none. I get rather upset when there are no parsnips on my plate at a carvers and when the roast potatoes are big, dry and not crispy at all. This most certainly was NOT the case at the Fountain Inn.This is the #1 restaurant that I have ever been to for a Sunday roast.

I'm not easily impressed we went here for Sunday and I was blown away.A few of our party ordered the seafood basket as a starter and it was so fresh and tasty, we couldn't take any pictures because it was eaten so fast, the calamari was perfectly cooked. Then came the roast dinner with a very good selection of veg, I find most places let themselves down where vegetables are concerned, again perfectly cooked, we ordered different meat options on our table and everyone was very happy, especially my husband who had the lamb.It was the best roast dinner we have ever eaten out, the puddings are all home made and quite a good selection with very good portion sizes, if I lived within an hour or so from Aberystwyth I would visit frequently, sadly I'm not :/I would highly recommend booking because it is small and very popular.

Wanted somewhere we could get a proper Sunday roast, slightly out of town (as it was uni open day weekend). Phoned and booked a table, arrived to find they didn't take cards, and we didn't have any cash on us, but this wasn't a problem, we were told that we could sit down and eat, and come back later to pay!The food was great, we both had mushrooms to start, and then the beef dinner, which was yummy, and came with an enormous selection of vegetables (roast parsnips, roast spuds *and* mash, carrot & swede mash, as well as separate carrots and swede, peas, cabbage...), I wasn't sure we'd finish it all, but we did. Puddings were also delicious, my raspberry chocolate brownie came warm, and with a jug of cream. At £12 for 3 courses, the meal was excellent value for money; the staff were super friendly and nothing was any trouble.Think this place may become a favourite when I move to Aber next year :-)

I went to LT dining hall today (for the first time) for the Sunday carvery and what a wonderful surprise. There were different roast meats to choose from as well as a vegetarian option. The meat was served by the staff at the counter, but from there on it was self service - roast potatoes, roast parsnips, boiled potatoes, mashed potatoes, cabbage, carrots, garden peas, mushy peas, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding. Then over to the self service condiments section, mint sauce, apple sauce, cranberry sauce, horseradish sauce and gravy. For all of £7.95 - amazing. There were also dessert options, but I had no room left. My Mum however had the bread and butter pudding. She came back with something in a bowl the size of a small fridge, it was huge! The cream that went with it was self service too. I will definitely be back. I think next time I may get a dessert to take away, as 10 hours later I'm beginning to feel peckish.

A favourite of ours now for a number of years, we holiday in the area every year usually Oct/Nov, and have tried many eating places including hotels and restaurants. But this Country Inn is top of the list for a friendly pub, the local willing to engage in conversation with whoever you are. In the past years we have driven past the place and as many do the same have wondered what's the place like. Well for my our personal taste if I lived in the area or close by, without a doubt this would be my local. We both love pubs that keep their quaintness and identity as an old pub. We live in an area that this is almost a things of the past knowing most pub seem to think Bistro is the way, modernisation and change the place from serving real ales into a Prosecco Swilling Hooray Henry place! The national locations such as Marstons, Toby Inns Etc do a great job to drop in with the family and provide mostly good value unlike the Bistro places, arranging food for the patrons to get their Mobiles out taking selfies with their glasses raise picture of their Pork Belly that has helped what was once a really cheap cut that families could afford from the Butchers shop, well that gone. Places treat Belly Pork as a delicacy, what sad times we have evolved into. So The Country Inn, or The Penilwyndu Pub long my you exist over many pretenders, keep on doing what your good at, serving some of the best tasty food at competitive prices. This spring when were visit again we'll have to learn how to pronounce Penilwyndu. I cannot recommended The Penilwyndu Pub highly enough!
