Lovely food and ran by a lovely family. Always ask how you are, always apologise for any delay. The food itself is always worth waiting for. Fella on the front desk is a diamond.

Iv tried Chinese food all over the country through working away and this has got to be the best food ever. Only down side is the wait but it’s worth it

Been coming here for YEARS..... Now my daughters and their friends all go.... Cannot fault any of the dishes. Sad news about Gearge,he was a lovely man,got me addicted to special chow main spicy.... Try it........

Was here Saturday for a take away wouldn’t go any where else we had salt and pepper chicken and chips and chicken curry and egg fried rice the portions are massive and the flavour is out of this world definitely recommend

See title. Thats how long we have been using this take away. Why go anywhere else when you are already using the best.Get a meal either every Friday or Saturday . Somehow Saturday 19/12/2020 was better than the usual excellent standard. The 3 of us all got different meals and all agreed they were WOW.The fact that it is always full and they do not need to deliver tells a story.We shall keep on using this take away as long as we can.Keep up the good work please.

Best chinese in sunderland, I ordered salt n pepper chips+chicken, egg fried rice, noodles and sweet and sour chicken (Cantonese style). Everything was delicious as always!

Had a supper from here on Sunday we had chicken curry fried rice and salt and pepper chips the portions are massive and easily feed 2 the staff are lovely and friendly wouldn’t go anywhere else for Chinese food

Went here for the first time last night after reading so many great reviews. I can honestly say this is the best Chinese takeaway in Sunderland. We travelled from boldon to collect and despite having numerous Chinese takeaways nearby, Fountain Garden was on another level completely compared to our local takeaways. The dishes we ordered were jammed full of high quality meat instead of being packed out with vegetables like other takeaways. The food smelled divine and exactly like a good Chinese restaurant. We ended up waiting an extra half hour after our time slot inside the shop but this seems to be the norm there. They were extremely busy with people constantly coming and going. It can only be a testament to the quality of their food. Don’t waste your money elsewhere.

Was here last Saturday for a takeaway supper we had chicken curry rice and salt and pepper chips also salt and pepper chicken they are massive portions and delicious staff are lovely and friendly

Ordered from here Monday as couldn’t be bothered to cook the salt and pepper chips are the best I’ve tasted massive portion also had prawn curry and rice which was full of massive prawns the only fault was they don’t deliver so you have to pick it up but it’s worth the travel

Had a supper from here Christmas Eve hubby had chicken curry which had big chunks of chicken breast I had salt and pepper chicken which was a massive portion and salt and pepper chips which would easily feed 3 ppl staff are fantastic the best Chinese in Sunderland

Salt and pepper chips and the salt and pepper chicken are the best I've ever had. I usually get them and a curry sauce. It's not my favourite place for other chinese dishes but for me the salt and pepper would be hard to beat. One tip its so busy and they don't deliver and if they say it will be ready in half hour add a further 15 mins on at busy times.

Loverly food salt & pepper chips are amazing!! fantastic house special curry with fried rice too. Salt & pepper chicken is fab. Staff are very friendly :-) always come here would definitely recommend

Had a takeaway from here yesterday it was delicious we had chicken curry fried rice salt and pepper chips which are by far the best in Sunderland staff are friendly and helpful will be coming back

Had a supper from here tonight hubby had chicken and prawn curry massive prawns and loads of chicken I had salt and pepper chicken and chips it was amazing and massive portions had quite a wait for it but well worth it

Had supper from here last night king prawn curry and rice and salt and pepper chips the prawns were massive and loads of them and the chips are the best I’ve ever tasted the staff were very helpful and helpful the only thing is I wish they would deliver because it’s by far the best Chinese in Sunderland

We use this place every few weeks. Yes you have to wait for your food. But it’s fresh and delicious. I actually enjoy the entertainment of the waiting area. By a country mile this is the best Chinese in the north east.

Visited Fountain Garden last night after hearing glowing reviews from a few friends. I have to say it lived up to the hype and then some. The special curry, salted pepper chips and szechan chicken was hands down the best I've tasted. Our new #1 chinese and I can't wait for our next visit. Can't believe it's taken me so long to try it.

This is the best take away in Sunderland, and has been with the same owners for more than 30 years. The super oldies like us will remember the Lotus Garden restaurant in Sunderland. and its the same people.

The best Chinese takeaway around, everything is delicious and portions are huge! You might wait a while and they don’t deliver but the food is amazing and always super fresh. The salt and pepper chips make my mouth water 🤤

Tried salt and pepper chips, bbq spareribs, szechuan chicken, amazing food hence always busy but worth the wait.

Great food. My family have different tastes and this is the one chinese we all agree on. One down fall is no delivery but its worth going to collect.

My husband and I have been recommended this place by many of our friends so we decided to give it a go. I got the chicken curry which I ordered chips, the portion was huge and I mean huge, but it was bland and had to pour plenty of salt on, plus it was just chicken onions and curry sauce, I didn't know if you wanted mushrooms in it you had order it with it but pay extra, other Chinese take-aways normally have them in, the chips are the worst I've had, frozen chips that were so dark they must of been cooked twice or the oil was to hot. Hubby got king prawn curry with fried rice, again he said the curry was a big portion but very bland, as well his was just king prawns onions and the curry sauce, his fried rice tasted more like boiled rice and couldn't taste the egg. Big portions but don't think we'd go again..

I had the chicken and broccoli in oyster sauce with fried rice which was ready on time, beautifully cooked (firm broccoli, succulent chicken) and one of the best Chinese takeaways I've had in a very long while. Be aware that the portions are absolutely enormous with one £6.30 meal really being enough for two. My only quibble would be there was a lot of sauce which was slightly excessive. Other than that, brilliant food.

Amazing food and service, once you have been here you won't go elsewhere! Book in plenty of time on a weekend though as the wait can be over an hour if you don't book early doors!

Terrible! Waste of time ordering ahead as food is NEVER ready when you get there. Usually a half our wait if you're lucky. Menu is limited. Food is average at best. Star don't speak English either. Avoid.

I have been coming to this takeaway for over 20 years, it is truly the best tasting quality food I have had from a Chinese takeaway. Weekends are very busy so be prepared for a wait......it is worth it.

Just a few blocks from where we live- this chinese take away is very convenient. It never fails to impress us as it has always been delicious specially their lemon chicken which, according to my children, is the best lemon chicken in Sunderland and Newcastle. It is easy to ring and order and then pick them after a specified time rather than order on site. The receptionist appears to know his customers and has a happy disposition too. This take away us highly recommended!

Our normal takeaway was closed so we decided to give this takeaway a try following the reviews on TripAdvisor. Rang order in and was given a collection time, i arrived a few minutes before to greeted by a pleasant chap who said my order would not be long. When i got home with food we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken in the curry. Overall the standard of meal and taste were splendid.We will certainly be using this place again and would recommended to other.

We have used this Chinese for years and although we have tried several other that are a little closer to home, they have not come close to the fountain garden. The amount of time and the number of people waiting for orders says it's all really. First class.

Good service, fab food everything you could want from a mid week take away. Recommend, best in the area.

As such, I've become very familiar with the Chinese restaurants and takeaways in my home town over the years, and the Fountain Garden has always been the best of the lot.They are a bit more pricey than your average takeaway, but I am of the opinion that quality is worth paying for. The shop itself is always clean, with a good selection of newspapers provided for those who are waiting to collect their food.The staff have always been friendly when I have visited, and actively engage with their customers over Facebook. If you have a question, they seem to do their best to answer it. The most important thing, though, is the food. And this is where the Fountain Garden really excels. Offering a comparatively simple, no-nonsense menu; you can taste the effort and care that goes into every dish. From the soups to the starters and beyond, portions are generous and the quality is uniformly excellent.Order in advance to avoid a long wait, and you'll quickly come to agree that the Fountain Garden is the best Chinese takeaway in Sunderland.

What can I say, the meals here are fantastic especially the beef in black been sauce. All the food is great this is the best take away in Sunderland, only snag is they don't deliver. They are always busy and you get a free bag of prawn crackers I would definitely recommend you give it a try

Been using this takeaway now for nearly 30 years. I've tried a couple of others obviously but nothing can compete with this.DO NOT GO IN ON SPEC. You will have a long wait due to the amount of orders they take. Ensure you phone your order in. The odd time, due to how busy it gets, the food order may be a little bit late. They keep a loyal clientele for a reason.

Have used this takeaway for years. However over past year has steadily gone down hill. Stopped phoning order in as always turned up and had to wait for up to an hour after time for food. Started to order over counter, which seemed quicker for a while. However, last time I went service was horrendous. Having just landed from holiday, dropped cases and straight for food. What a laugh!!! Ordered at 7.45 and still waiting one hour later! I was on the verge of cancelling order when my food arrived. Sat down to eat just after 9 and food was awful! Chicken not cooked, rice cold and part.of order missing! Seemed as if food was just rushed to catch up. Unfortunately this is not a one off. Ordered to pick up few weeks later. Phoned at 7 to pick up at 8. Arrived 5 minutes early and still waited until 9 for food which once again was not too good. Shop was full of people waiting for ages for pre orders! Such a shame.as this was possibly one of best in town.

This used to be our favourite Chinese take away, but due to its popularity it has gone downhill. It's always busy, but our experience is that the quality of the food has deteriorated, it is possibly the most expensive in the area, and the service is poor. Expense was never an issue as the taste was always first class, but sadly this is not the case now, as for the service, you are given a time for collection, but it is never on time,you nearly always see angry customers while you are waiting for your food,this can become very uncomfortable. The impression you get is that the owners are just to frightened to turn custom away, but at the loss of regular customers, plus the price is now considerably higher than other local take aways.

Fountain garden has without a doubt unbelievable food, the salt n pepper chicken and chips being up there with the best and to die for. Although dissapointing that this place does not deliver I usually tend to collect. Majority of times that you ring to collect you are told about 45 mins after the time you rang which is quite long for a Chinese but then if you do turn up on time you are waiting a good 30mins to 1 hour afterwards for your food as if they only start cooking it when you arrive to collect!! Beautiful food but awful service in that way which is why I tend to take my custom else where. What a shame as it is lovely

Used this Chinese for years. Food absolutely delightful however we rarely eat from here now as the quality (ie taste) of food goes down hill when busy. Stopped ordering for this reason. Tried again tonight for my favourite dish, first time in months. Ordered Chow Mein. This dish is to die for when it's on form. However I was left so disappointed with tonight's order. The chow Mein was so watery and had no taste what so ever. I do find the quality is compromised when busy. I would recommend avoiding within 1 and a half hours of them opening, this is when it seems to be it's busiest and quality at this time depletes. I would order again but would certainly wait til quieter periods, hopefully my dish will be back up to its top notch standard. Worth a visit but not during its busiest times.

I'd say this was the best chinese curry ive ever had. I asked for it to be hot, and it was just right. It was also very tasty. Theres always a queue to be served, which it testament to the quality. The owner is a real pleasant chap as well. Its a bit of a drive for me to get there, but well worth it.

Dont pre order, ordered for 18:35 to pick up left at 19:00 with wrong order Person who took order keeps you hanging on while he deals with customers in shop.When I got home some miles away and complained about wrong order all I got was they would change the wrong meal asked about partners and rice if she would have to eat meal alone while I came back he just said sorry.There was no spice to the curry more like peppery garvy had spicer cuppa soups

George not only looks after his customers with brilliant food but is brilliant to watch as you wait for your order (other customers will know exactly what I mean) asks a customer their name / phone rings

One of the best Chinese takeways in Sunderland. Always plenty of customers. This one is open Mondays when others close that day. Shame I usually have takeaway on a Tuesday.

We have been going to this Chinese for years, George the chef is lovely and always looks after his customers. The food is beautiful no Chinese in Sunderland can beat it. The waiting time is long but I don't mind waiting for good food!

Love this place being going for over ten years and never disappointed, great staff and George the best , bbq ribs the best you pay a little more, but get a lot more than your average chinese, i travel from seaham must say something.

Fountain garden is located just off queen st high Barnes the owner is called George and likes to look after his customers the food is excellent I have tryed many Chinese takeaways around Sunderland and this one takes some beating my favorite anyway

Never had a bad meal from here in over 10 years. I have tried a few others in the area due to shear laziness on my part and none have come close. My only concern would be the waiting time but it not a massive problem.
