Fort Bar in Dundee City

Wow,!! What a gorgeous restaurant we dined in this evening for a business meeting . The decor was stunning, the seating was so comfortable and there was a lovely ambience present. There was a problem with my on line booking , and the staff apparently had been trying to call me unsuccessfully the whole day to alert me of this. On arrival the Staff could not be more helpful, the restaurant manager resolved the problem , arranged for the Kitchen to stay open longer and saved the night. Our meal was delicious and the pudding was just fabulous washed down with some G& T,s beautifully presented !! Very reasonably priced as well, and although we were late on arrival we were not rushed at all , I will definitely be returning, thanks for such a lovely evening !!!

Lovely lunch, very busy, a good sign

I was sadly disappointed with my visit to the fort bar tonight. I had booked for myself, mum and 12 year old daughter. We were seated in the lounge but felt uncomfortable with the noise level. The Scotland match was on and there was a group of around 6 males, one of whom was a employee of the bar, they were shouting and swearing. Felt this was inappropriate as children and families were present. We ordered food and waited for almost 25 minutes. We noticed that other customers food was arriving before ours then we were approached by a waitress whom apologised that our order had not gone through to the kitchen, she re took the order. We mentioned the noise level and language being used but she said they had no control over it and they could sit where they wanted. When the food finally arrived we were passed hungry, nobody checked in to see if we were happy or needed more drinks. The food was sub standard. Understand that the football was on but why not just keep it to the bar?

We had an enjoyable meal and drink last month while visiting friends in Dundee.We were seated promptly and our drinks order taken while we browsed the menu.A pint of Camden for me and a pint of Tennants for my mate.We both had haggis starter and steak pie chip and peas for mains.The bar was busy and the staff were efficient .I want to the bar to order a 2nd drink and staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was good and home cooked ,good portions .Nice place .Will likely return next time I'm back in Dundee.

Visited with our daughter for lunch on a weekday. It is fair to say all three of us were underwhelmed. Service was very good throughout and we had no issues whatsoever other than with the food offering. The dishes were we felt rather bland and the "cardboard " chips in particular were way below the standard we expect. We shall return but will avoid the burger and breaded fish and those dreadful chips!! All in all you can do better, Fort Bar.

Decided to try the Fort for Saturday Lunch after some serious shopping. Had been in several times before for drinks but never to eat. Its a really nice bar in central Broughty, service was good and the food was good without being expensive, steak pie was fab.

My friend treated me to lunch here yesterday and it was lovely. I had the fish and chips and she had the lasagna. Both looked and tasted lovely. The outside seating area was clean and comfortable and the waiting staff were attentive with good service.

My wife, niece and I had another lovely meal. Service and presentation of our meals was first class. This must be the best restaurant in the Ferry for quality and price of meals. Will be returning soon.

Excellent visit to the Fort Bar for a “late” lunch on Sunday. We had my dog with us so booked a table in the beer garden. Online booking was very easy and e-mail confirmation came through almost instantly. The beer garden is a fabulous space and very welcoming. There was a very slight rain when we arrived, the roof was extended, so you don’t actually feel like you’re outside but later the roof was opened up and it was lovely to be in the sunshine. The gentleman who showed us to the table was very friendly and advised of covid restrictions we had to follow. The other waiting staff were also very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. My friend had the Thai Chicken curry and I had a half portion ( great idea, thankyou ) of the steak pie with fries. Drinks were reasonably priced and a good selection available. We weren’t hurried at all and throughly enjoyed our visit. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Wonderful family birthday celebration. Staff could not have done more to make it special. Lovely day. Food was great,as always, and the restaurant is such a nice environment

Fantastic 80th birthday family meal. The food is always good and the environment lovely the staff were so kind and helpful. We had such a wonderful day. Cant thank the staff enough.

First visit to new beer garden with friends for lunch. Easy booking system, confirmed with an email. Friendly staff, track and trace, at entrance with gels to use. sat at table with swing seat. Ordered drinks and wrote our food selection on a sheet just tick the boxes at what you require. We had steak pie, fish n chips and baked potato with tuna, all freshly made and delicious. A slight drop of rain and the canopies above us were utilised, just before the heavens opened. Lights came on in ceiling and sides, making a luvly atmosphere listening to the rain. A very enjoyable lunch/ afternoon had by all. Will return. :)

Booked a table for lunch, met on arrival and shown to our table by a friendly staff member, order by ticking your requirements and leaving contact details. Good food , generous portions even the half sized ones, On street parking and car park nearby.

The Fort has done all it can to make itself COVID friendly and has invested a great deal in creating beer gardens with a retractable roof so you can enjoy the sun and shelter from the rain. It also has outdoor heaters if required! My meal was superb and over all I was very impressed!

Owner has made great efforts to stay open to the public throughout the pandemic and needs to be given a lot of credit for this. All COVID regulations are in place and well supported and adhered to.Had lunch here (twice) in the Beer Garden with different friends just before regulations on alcohol inside were lifted. The Beer Garden is lovely and will be great in the summer months. The pub inside has always been lovely - the bar in particular is a great place to have a drink or coffee (very good quality) and cake/a scone. Surroundings are excellent. I don’t rate the food here though - it’s ok but basic and expensive for what it is. Service is very good. Toilets are very clean and well maintained.Happy to recommend for drinks and snacks.

We went here with friends and their kids and were well looked after from the moment we arrived. The ordering is a little strange as you tick boxes on a paper menu. My pizza was huge and very tasty. Service was excellent throughout.

Would highly recommend here for eating out. The food was amazing and the portion sizes were very good. Staff very attentive and friendly. We had a bit of a wait between courses but the food was well worth the wait. You must go here x

Booked here for my granddaughters 18th birthday. Due to the current situation we could not all dine out as a family so we picked the Fort as we had heard good reports. These reports were spot on as everything about our visit was first class. From entry to leaving did not have any complaints. Super food and excellent service. Will hopefully return soon.

3 of us came here on Monday.The waiter and waitress could not have been nicer,and the menu was varied. I had a small portion of lasagne with garlic bread and onion rings as sides(no extra cost).Really delicious,and generous portions for a fair price.It was very well organised for covid regulations too.Will definitely return.

Today, we booked an outside table for an early tea and the food was the best any of us had eaten in ages. Two of our company had curry, one steak pie and one macaroni cheese with chips and mixed veg. I've had the mac cheese before and it was always good but today it was amazing - really cheesy and piping hot. The service was spot on and we will definitely be back soon - restrictions permitting.

El personal es muy amable y servicial, pero me hizo sentir un poco estúpido la última vez que estuvimos allí.Había pedido una papa al horno con atún y no se mencionaba en el menú que habría cebolla roja picada a través del atún. Tuve que decirle a un miembro del personal que no podía comer cebolla y me dijeron que debería haberlo mencionado en el formulario cuando estaba ordenando si era alérgico. En realidad, no soy alérgico, pero tengo SII y la cebolla es uno de los muchos alimentos que mi estómago simplemente no tolera. Secluded beer garden where food and drink is served. Would recomend booking if want food. Tastefully decorated and roof covering provided during wet weather. Nice food relaxing atmosphere.

First time since lockdown we’ve been out for a meal sat in the beer garden, couldn’t complain about the staff or quality of the food.

For someone who regularly visits the anchor I will definitely be returning to the fort bar. Great service, great chilli burger and the ambience was spot on. Perfect atmosphere for a spot of lunch. The wife appreciated the half portion sizes. Great touch 👍🏻

La comida fue excelente y rápida, el postre fue un poco más largo pero nada que fuera un problema, pero Steve no podría haberse disculpado más. Had lunch here with my wife recently and it was excellent. Fish and chips were excellent and the portions more than generous. Very reasonably priced too and very good service, will definitely be back.

Fantastic food , great portions especially as you can get a half portion also. Very attentive friendly staff always looking after there customers. Definitely recommend the fish n chips!!! Great value for money!! If your in broughty ferry it's a definate for food.

Had read and heard good reviews about the meals here so we went to try lunch. The menu was quite extensive, the prices were very reasonable, the food was good and the service was excellent. Will definitely come back here.

Enjoyed a Festive Lunch of Turkey Broth and Turkey with all the trimmings, very tasty, generous portions, pleasant surroundings and friendly staff.

Tener 2 Coeliac's en mi familia es el único restaurante donde pueden obtener una opción decente y su condición se toma y se trata con seriedad. Todo el personal parece estar preocupado por los problemas y tiene mucho cuidado de no causar contaminación cruzada, lo cual es tan importante.

Grupo de nosotros fuimos a almorzar ayer con dos perros, todos nos sentimos muy bienvenidos por el personal. Excelente lugar, bonita decoración y mesas bien espaciadas para que no se tropiece con los demás al subir o bajar. El servicio fue de primera clase y la comida era increíble, tuve el mac y el queso, que es uno de los mejores que he probado, otros en el grupo tenían hamburguesas, pescado y papas fritas (un poco de pan maltratado) todos limpiaron sus platos. Lo recomendaría encarecidamente como un lugar amigable para los perros y para las personas, espero volver pronto. Muchas gracias a todo el personal ya que están haciendo un gran trabajo.

Entré en el bar Fort para almorzar y salir de compras. Bonita y atractiva decoración con un agradable personal amable. i got told that I got chucked out of there because I was drunk, I was no drunk than the least drunk person in there but I was asian and becuase of that I was removed from the manager who could see that I was not drunk in the slighest. there seams to be this problem with a lot of the places in the ferry, I hope the fort would put the real reason up here as to why I was removed from their fascist establisment!!!!

Had a single course lunch of battered haddock which was very good .Decent sized portions and the service was fine . Staff pleasant and attentive .

A group of us popped in for lunch with our babies and staff couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating. The food was excellent, baby / child friendly and the staff went out there way. We would definitely go back and recommend. Thank you

It’s been a while since I ate here, but it was lovely. I like that you can get half portions in anything as some members of my family are not big eaters. Lots of choice and everyone enjoyed what they chose. Will definitely return. Staff warm, friendly and helpful x

Had a personal dispute in the bar and the other party involved had hit my drink over myself then proceeded to hit me in the face which burst my nose. The bar staff and security removed me initially and asked me to leave the premises, I did not argue this although I did ask for tissues because of my nose bleeding which they declined and again asked me to leave the premises, before removing the person that was violent within the bar. I was basically attacked and the bar staff treated me as the attacker and I could’ve had injuries that they were not concered what’s so ever. Disgusting

We had lunch at The Fort. Very good food, reasonably priced, generous portions. Service was friendly and efficient.

My friend and I went for a meal Friday 5/10/18 and although my fish was perfect my friends steak pie crust was thin and small and there were more peas on the plate than anything else, I have never seen so many peas on one plate, she told the waitress that the food was cold so she took it away to heat it and it was still cold when she brought it back, my friend left most of her meal. The waitress and waiter where so busy talking to one another they were not paying proper attention to the customers.

The bar is part of the Fort hotel and I cannot comment on that as I have never stayed there.

A cleaner called ross was using very abusive language towards other workers,i had to leave with my kids because it was so bad

Drove to Dundee having been in Perth all day and followed my sat nav to the fort hotel. The locality filled me with dread, located in a less than glamorous part of town, I came close to moving on. But facing a full cancellation fee I thought I would give it a go and I am glad I did. A great little hotel, pleasant rooms, friendly staff and a manager/ owner who did all he could to resolve a mistake I had made with the booking. Great bar with three screens to watch the football, good beer and good food. If you are in Dundee, check it out. You won’t be disappointed and would have found a diamond in the rough.

My second visit to this great hotel/bar/nightclub.On my annual Broughty Ferry golf trip,stayed three nights.Breakfast/bar food/Italian restaurant/rooms/bar&staff; brilliant.Can't fault the cleanliness of this place.Rooms are spotless and modern, they've really invested in this place,well done to Johnny the owner!See you next year.Room prices great too.

Visited here this afternoon for some lunch with my brother. It was quite busy but got a table no problem. They have a good menu choice and range of different things. I went for 1/2 portion of lasagne with chips and coleslaw which was really good. Best lasagne I've had in a while, chips freshly cooked and nice creamy coleslaw. My brother had 1/2 portion of macaroni cheese with chips and onion rings said it was really nice. We also ordered the nachos with everything on it. They were good too only thing I would prefer to have the sauces separate as it made the nachos go soggy. Had two pints of juice aswell and it came up to £20. Half portions are actually quite big was glad we went for them as it was perfect size. Would hate to see what a large portion is as plate was full and I doubt I would of managed it. Great food, good service. Would recommend.

Been a while since we were at the Fort. Went for lunch today with a couple of friends. Was served by a nice smiley young lady who brought our order promptly. Food was of a very high standard. WOW! the curry was fantastic and you could get half portions! so there was no wastage at the end. Four clean plates returned. Wont be long before we are back. Visited on Saturday evening just after Auld Enemy rugby match & the place was mobbed! Didn't affect service or food though which were both very good. Worth a visit.

Went here for lunch with my friend, didn't need to book a table which was great as it was last minute. Service was good. We both had fajitas I had steak and friend had the chicken. The portions sizes were huge and the quality of the food was great. Also had a chocolate crepe with strawberries which was fab! Definetly recommend. The prices of food are very reasonable aswell.

We had a pre-Christmas meal with friends here. An excellent choice. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The choice was larger than we expected. There was a choice of size of portions which suited some of our party in particular as they wanted smaller ones. The meal was served promptly and was well presented and tasted great.

We opted for The Fort for our Christmas Meal & Night Out after seeing the menu. Very classy surroundings & welcoming staff. The group had a variety of starters which were all good. The salmon starter got the biggest thumbs up & for the main course the majority opted for the turkey. Succulent turkey served with all the trimmings and fresh vegetables. The servings were very generous with only a few clearing their plates.

Visited Broughty Ferry for the first time in 50 years and called at the Fort Bar. A lovely place, with hotel and restaurant attached. Spoke with the staff and owner who were very friendly and helpful. Only had a couple of drinks but food looked lovely too. Well worth a visit and I will be back,but won’t leave it so long next time. We visited for an evening meal with friends. I loved the fact that they had a choice of large or small portions on almost everything. They also had a gluten free menu. The food we had was execellent as was the service. Our only complaint was the price of drink, which was a bit excessive.

We have been coming to the Fort Restaurant regularly. The menu has a good variety of dishes to suit all tastes and many items have half portions available to suit those with a small appetite.

Visited the Fort last Sunday evening. 4 adults and all 4 throughly enjoyed our meal. Service was great, also served with a smile. Food was hot and quality and quantity was good. We will return

Visited the Fort for a meal with a couple of friends, our third time.The place turns out a pretty good meal but has some minus points. Service is slow once you have got the menu. Half portions are advertised, but if you ask they are not available. I ordered mixed veg but they din not come with the meal, I did not persue this, if I had they would not have arrived until I had finished, I suspect.We had intended to have a sweet but gave up when no one came across to take an order. Next time we eat out we will try a different place, three vivits is quite enough.In fairness it must be said that the food quality is fairly good if not outstandingPJ snr

Popped in with a group for a few drinks on midweek holiday evening.Well presented hostelry, fine selection of drinks and sat for a few hours sampling the ales and catching up. Music was on in background but at a level which did not disturb. Service at bar pleasant and quick.Overall very pleasant evening.

Not the most upmarket of pubs but comfortable and very pleasant to be in - with a nice atmosphere. Had lunch with a friend - food is amazing - value is amazing - best pub food in the ferry by FAR!!! Staff lovely and I would take anyone there with confidence ! Love it

We just went for a beer before going to a different restaurant for dinner, and we were very glad we did! We were not made to feel welcome at all. The service was appalling, there was a very annoying waitress who kept shouting across the room and banging plates down on the table, and no one was very interested in us at all. We also were told that we couldn't sit at a table as we weren't having food, despite the fact that there was no one else sitting at 90% of the tables. Very disappointing.

Thank you for accommodating my request to hold a business dinner in the bar beside the big screen so our visitors could watch the football too!Great food and a pleased crowd!

This is, and has been for many years, (inexplicably) a very popular bar in a row of other stalwart bars in "the Ferry". Returned about 5/6 years ago on dark wood effect and granite-topped tables. It's smart enough, but there's something about it I don't enjoy (acoustics? The macho barrier around the bar? The infestation of wasps around the toilets?)Food is served in adjacent hotel and Italian restaurants. It is relaxed, but not imaginative menu. Not formal. The hotel's breakfasts are served here too.

Don't ask for char grilled chicken you will get chicken Goujons!!!!This is what happened to us with no apology when explained even though my husband could only eat the inside of the goujon ie the chicken as he is Celiac.

Food was not very tasty not been for a little while and felt food not so good maybe because went in at 7 and took a while to get served so kitchen staff winding downYoung waitresses were struggling to deal with the workload even though it was not too busy

Had hoped to dine at the Italian restaurant next door but were directed instead to the bar, which turned out a pretty good alternative. The food was good quality and the service was warm and friendly.

Not been for sometime. Surprised to find this place all done up since last visit.Now looking very modern. But no compromise to food. Excellent quality nice freshly cooked fish. And lovely lasagne. Will not wait so long for return visit

My wife and i went to the restaurant for an evening meal.We love itialian. Bit disapointing, staff friendly but kept rushing you through your meal. Portions very big, BUT too much pepper, in both our meals,could not taste anything else.

We visited this bar each night of our 4 nights in Broughty Ferry, its a very nice bar with a very large lounge area on the right and a little bar as you go in.Found the clients really friendly along with the staff especially the manager who made us feel very welcome indeed.The main bar area has a large TV which we watched the golf, the lounge area to the right had a stage and had various different activities.Really nice bar but I did find it very hot in there.

We have been here a few times and it's never failed to disappoint. Great service, good choice of dishes and the food is amazing. The prices are average for Broughty Ferry. I would recommend here to anyone.

Just back from another monthly lunch at The Fort Bar. Very good as usual. Good choice on the menu and they do half portions if required. Not too noisy for a bar - TV is on but sound is usually turned off. Main course and a drink around £12 per person.

Popped in for a late lunch with being in the area. Service was good and staff where lovely. My partner never enjoyed his burger but I loved my lasagne.

We stopped here for a Saturday teatime meal because the place we wanted to go too was fully booked. There is actually an Italian restaurant attached to this bar which is where we went into at first. We asked for a table for two and were told there were none, but there may be one in the bar. So we were then ushered into the pub without being given an option to come back to the Italian later or told how long the wait would be for a table.So we settled for the bar menu in the public bar, which was very busy with virtually every table full, many of them families. This was very promising.Service was very quick especially since the place was so busy. The waitress who took our orders was attentive, polite and pleasant. Sadly the waitress who delivered the food was none of the above. Surly, disinterested and rushed would be better adjectives for her.Between us we had the lasagne and macaroni cheese. We chose the half portions which was a good decision, for two reasons. Firstly, the size was adequate for a teatime meal, but secondly the food was so tasteless anything bigger would have been a trial to eat. No end of seasoning was enough to get any flavour out of either meal. We tried each other's meals and neither was at all exciting or had any taste. Really disappointing.I hope that our experience was a one-off judging by how busy it was, but if two staples on the basic bar menu were anything to go by, this is not somewhere I will be heading back to soon.

Went for lunch with a friend and family members. Glad we chose the small portions because they were definitely large enough for a lunch. Food is fresh and tasty. Service is friendly. Second visit to the pub as the prices are good and we know the food will be good.

Having been a regular at this bar for over 25 years I cannot praise it highly enough. With karaoke nights quiz nights for various charities and modern music Friday and Saturday nights for younger people. Also the bar meals are excellent in both lounge and bar. A very busy pub at the weekends The hotel also has an excellent restaurant attached called Borgotaro

Food is good value and you get a good sized portion. We had steak and it was cooked perfect to medium rare. The staff were very attentive and made sure we got a meal even though we came quite late.Well worth eating here if you stay the night like we did.

Birthday meal for a friend, the portions are very generous, even the half portions are generous, the choice is good and the staff were very helpful. The decor is contemporary and the price is reasonable. Just to mention, if you are taking children, they have to be out of the restaurant by 7.30 pm.

Excellent bar ,good food and friendly service ,open till 2am at weekends. Why would you want or need to go anywhere else.

I stay here for work, Always very friendly and lively place, good range of beers and whiskeys and the food is always good. The only down side is the lack of private parking for the Hotel. Street parking is available but the traffic wardens are very sharp.

Was here on my first night in BF and was impressed by the friendliness of the staff. Good bar manager. Good selection of beers at good prices. We ate here one night and had a very enjoyable meal.

First visit to the lounge of the Fort Bar in Broughty Ferry for some time and was delighted to find that the new menu still had most of the old favourites but some tempting new items as well. Certainly not disappointed with good food and attentive staff in a busy but not crowded lounge bar
