Wasn’t sure what to expect but this was such a great day out . Lance Forman and Darren in the factory are so interesting and then you’re served an amazing lunch with bubbly . Definitely recommend this

An fantastic tour. We used a buyagift voucher and the whole booking process was easy. The tour itself was interesting and informative and the lunch was excellent - 9 types of cured salmon with bread. Highly recommended - we were there around 3 hours, and it's a 20 min walk from Stratford on the Liz line (we tried to go to Stratford international, but it's not accessible with a travel card add it's zoneless, but wasn't a problem).

As a different birthday gift, I took my son for a tour of Forman & Field in East London. We had a fabulous time. The tour of the processing area was informative and fun. The amount of hands on time, the skill and the attention to detail they put into their Smoked Salmon is astounding. FoodieFIncluded in the tour was a Salmon tasting lunch. The fish was beautifully presented, Lance Forman gave us information about each of the different salmon's before we were left to enjoy our lunch together in their lovely restaurant. I don't often write reviews, but this family run company and their awesome staff deserve the publicity. the day will remain in our minds for many years. Oh, and the food was exceptional!

We went on Friday for the Forman’s tour. This is a must when living or visiting London. We were welcomed by Lloyd, Claire and their wonderful team, instantly making us feel welcome. We enjoyed coffee in the restaurant over looking the river. Lance Foreman then gave a talk, which was very interesting, intriguing and funny. Downstairs to the factory to see Darren world class salmon slicing skills. He could get a world record for his banter too, very funny indeed. We finished with a tasting plate of quite simply the best smoked salmon in the world!!!! I can’t recommend the tour enough, it’s amazing. And if you can’t get to the tour order some smoked Salomon online you will not be disappointed. Thank you Formans for an amazing day.

We had booked a tour and found our way through the rain to the smokery to be warmly welcomed by Claire and were guided to the dining hall to listen to the most interesting talk about the history of the company and the various processes which are all done by hand before donning white coats hair and shoe protectors. We were then invited to descend to the factory floor and allowed to take pictures before settling down to watch the very jovial, funny and expertly Darren explaining and demonstrating all there was to know about the Salmon, the salting drying smoking or curing processes. Also very informative and well done. A truly memorable experience.

What a great time spent at Forman's Smokery! Started with very interesting talk by Lance Forman on it's history, followed by Darren showing us how salmon is smoked and then carving a side of smoked salmon. He should be on the stage with his personality - and dexterity ! Followed by a tasting platter served in the restaurant which was delicious! Thanks to them both, to Lloyd and all the staff - super day !

We went for the talk and the tour of the smokehouse at the weekend. Lance Foreman was a most entertaining speaker. Our hearts sank though when we went down to the factory for the fish demonstration, but we had no need to fear, as Darren was an absolute comedian. We then followed with the salmon tasting, and the obligatory glass of champagne. It was a wonderful day out and I can't recommend it more highly.

An outstanding tour of a fourth generation smoked salmon family business . The tour was hosted by Lance Foreman whose enthusiasm for his business was evident for all to see . The pre tour presentation was given extra “flavour”by revealing some of the trials and tribulations encountered when having to move the existing premises to make way for the London olympics stadium . The introduction was followed by a tour of the factory and a personal demonstration of how to smoke and carve smoke salmon by Darren who was worth the tour fee on his own . This was then followed by a tasting platter of the various salmon alternatives ,each plate arranged identically with an explanation of each dish explained by Lance . A superb informative and tasty tour ,great value and highly recommended

Had a great few hours on the H Forman smoke salmon tour. A very interesting talk from the current owner Lance Forman, we then changed into hairnets and white protective coats and made our way to watch a fabulous demonstration on how to preserve and carve a Salmon. We headed back to the restaurant where 7 different types of Salmon were served for lunch. The Salmon was delightful. Had a wonderful day expertly organised by Claire from H Forman. Definitely worth a visit

We had a terrible time. The salmon is salty, the experience was over priced, the staff were disengaged and rude. Do NOT recommend. It was especially galling as I had organized this as a special for my colleagues.

Can’t fault the smoked salmon, and I really like their choice and knowledge of British wines. For me though, the restaurant is a bit stuffy and formal. The food is good, but not great. Given the prices, I expected pretty flawless cooking and ingredients. I guess overall it is not really my vibe in terms of decor and ambience. My parents loved it though. I brought them for a quiet daytime drink on the terrace. On that occasion we enjoyed attentive, friendly service and some complimentary petits fours - lovely!

Buried away in East London is one of the finest examples of a British made artisan food. Foreman’s smoked salmon is legendary and the taste and flavour is unmatched. You can actually tour the factory which is both illuminating and highly entertaining. The tour starts with an informative and lively description of the long history of the firm whose survival to the present day is testament to the skill and determination of the owners, (the firm is still run by the great grandson of the founder) and the quality of the product. The intro is followed by an amazing demonstration by Darren, the Guinness record holding salmon trimming champion which could run in the west end. The finale is a lunch comprising a selection of the best smoked salmon you have ever tasted washed down with a glass of excellent English wine. A delight from start to finish.

Wow it was worth the wait to visit Forman's for a tour and tasting having had to delay due to the Pandemic. We all throughly enjoyed our time at Forman's listening to the Forman Story, getting to see a world record breaker slicing a side of Smoked salmon and talking us through the process that makes Forman's Salmon unique and by far the best! It was a well thought out tour finishing with a lovely tasting of the Salmon in their beautiful Restaurant.

The first of the tasting open days since Covid started. Lance Forman was excellent and really bought his family firm to life. Wrap up warm, it’s cold in the food prep area ! The chap who showed us how to cut salmon - Darren ? Was a real card Great 3 hours and well priced. Do it !

We sent two groups of 50 people on two separate days a couple of weeks ago. We were very surprised to see how modern the building was and as you would expect, being a food producer immaculately clean. We were the first coach party since the Covid lock down and were fortunate to be given a history of Forman's by the Managing Director of the company, which was extremely interesting Once we donned ourselves in suitable coverings over our clothes, head, feet and the obligatory mask we went the the factory floor to see a demonstration by Darren of cutting and slicing the fish - everything is done by hand - the old fashioned way. After the demonstration we went back to the restaurant where we had the most delicious 2 course meal - the best smoked salmons i have ever eaten!! The presentation was fabulous and so were the 2 course, accompanied by a lovely English wine. Although we went on group visits, you can of course book the restaurant separately, Great day out.

I love this restaurant: it's spacious, quiet and the food is always delicious. I was lucky to visit just before the lockdown and i can't wait to return once the situation is back to normal: the restaurant is spacious, they don't cram people in like so many other restaurants in London, so I would feel comfortable visiting again.

Amazing place with excellent food, in the most unlikely area

This is not a review about the restaurant but about the smoked salmon - fabulous - not too smokey, not too oily - delicious. Went to Forman’s on a salmon carving class gifted to us by a friend - my word. An absolutely superb course.

Another wonderful meal, with a phenomenal view over the Olympic Park. Food is fab, staff outstanding. If you haven’t you must!!

Fabulous ingredients, slow and ill-informed staff. No one knew anything about their own menu, we counted 12 staff for 14 guests and it still took 50 minute to get drinks and 1 hour 15m to get food in an enjoy restaurants ( it must have 60 covers).

Something a bit different. Restaurant attached to traditional smokery. The smoked salmon tasting platter is delicious and great to compare the different cures. It is spotlessly clean and has a great outlook across the River Lea Navigation to the Olympic Stadium. Only open on certain days so check in advance. We'd recommend the smokery tour which has to be booked in advance.

Food is excellent, the smoked salmon varieties are delicious! Not sure it actually has the best view of the Olympic stadium since someone stuck a building in the way, but the restaurant is lovely in itself and still a nice view of the river if you're by a window.

Thoroughly enjoyed the briefing and demonstration given on the smokehouse. Learned a lot of most interesting facts that I will put into practice when shopping for smoked salmon in the future. It was a real fun evening.

The food was excellent and very well presented. And the quantity was good. It is quite expensive but high quality. The front of house staff were extremely helpful, even opening up the factory gate and office area so that a disabled member of our party could avoid the long staircase. In fact the Company's owner himself came to unlock the factory gate! That is good service! However the table service was a little ametureish which was a surprise.

Though it goes without saying, their smoked salmon is excellent. Lovely selection of British food and wine. And beer. Service was great too. We have been before and will go again.

A lovely, slightly different place - definitely recommend. We popped in here one Sunday afternoon for lunch. There were a few people eating, but there's was easily space for the six of us. We had not been back to Formans in a long time and wanted to share it with two friends so walked them to Hackney Wick from Mile End to enjoy a very delicious brunch on a Saturday. Not booking i was so pleased that we able to just walk in and a table was available in the sunny room over looking the canal and Olympic Park next door. The two friends had wine and both enjoyed their choice from the menu. On to the food two of us chose the fish cakes, an eggs Forman and the scrambled eggs with salmon, all delicious and shared. To finish we had seen the Victoria sponge and shared two portions and again so good.

Tuvimos un muy buen plato de degustación de los diferentes tipos de pescado ahumado y no ahumado disponibles aquí en este restaurante que se especializa en pescado ahumado. Los platos principales también eran excelentes y los vinos y cervezas eran ingleses. Solo tomamos la misma cerveza pero estaba muy buena. Está en Hackney Wick y al lado del canal y del estadio de fútbol West Ham. Mis compañeros franceses querían comer comida inglesa y la consiguieron y quedaron muy contentos con el lugar. The food is extraordinary and exceptional. Having the view on the river while eating a dinner there, is simply stunning. Good idea was to show the production area inside the restaurant so as you are there, you might have a look on the process. We will be coming back more often for sure!

This place is a relic of a bygone era. Neon lights, silver plastic seats, 90s cooking. The wine list only includes English wines, which predictably taste as bland as the food. A relatively expensive but totally forgettable dinner. I doubt its future will be as bright as its lightbulbs.

Fantastic tour . We were made to feel very welcome by all staff & especially the owner Lance Forman. The carving demonstration by Darren Matson was very interesting & entertaining. The salmon platter was delicious & I will now be buying all my smoked salmon from here as the supermarket brands I have tried are no match to this delicious smoked salmon.

Went here before a West Ham game and queued for over 15 minutes for a beer. It's not 1 star because, once you got the beer, standing on the roof terrace was decent

Wasn’t too sure what to expect as advert was good but location wasn’t very inviting. That was the only down side as the restaurant staff and quality of food was totally excellent. Their fish is so lovely and the Pork belly was to die for. View of the fish smoking process was also good

I visited this restaurant in April and I was immediately impressed by the location, quality and the professionalism/friendliness of staff.

Excellent English champagne matched by wonderful service by Inda and his team and loved the salmon taster plate in particullar.

Food was fantastic, lovely looking place. Had the cavier salmon sharer, fillet beef and lamb. There was one waitress and the host doubled up assisting her, resulting mixed service (sometimes speedy, but forgot to order our desert etc). It was not teaming with people, which I was surprised at but busy enough.

H Foreman and Son now syndicate of Nigel Farage and Brexit Party, will not frequent the establishment again as a result of this.

We are not religious but thought this ‘home if fish’ would be THE perfect Good Friday dinner destination! It was fantastic on arrival and within a few minutes I thought I’d be giving it 5/5. Nice feel about the restaurant that had a casual vibe still with a more upmarket decor. Great looking menu and England-focussed wine list. Efficient service upfront. We ordered the tasting plate to share first up and a half bottle of champagne (sorry to break the English wine only theme but we were after a bit of decadence!). It was ABSOLUTELY stunning. Just beautiful as the photo shows. Great fun trying all the different styles....and enjoyed with that gorgeous champagne served in very attractive flutes. It was a special dish and clearly it showed off what they know best.

We so enjoyed our experience here. Only ate in the bar area but had a wonderful array of salmon cures. The building is a great concept, the staff are lovely, decor and ambience are fab, and all consumables are beyond criticism. There is an interesting list of English wines, and, personally, I'd like to see some French representation too. But absolutely no criticism of any kind. We shall return to enjoy a full meal in the restaurant. Formans look strongly positioned to weather Brexit and any other challenges the next century or so throws at them !

You know what, I didn't even eat there so I can tell you whether or not you will like the food butt location wise is great, it's like a hidden gem. Some could say they definitely need staff to meet you at the door but the lack of humans really added to the mystique for me 😂 it was like an adventure just to get there, very nice In term of dress code I'd say smart casual Menu is fancy pub food basically, but like I said I didn't eat anything Buuuut they did give free bread and water so you know it's up there in class 😂😂 If I go back to actually eat I'll let you know

Very nice East London restaurant with a nice atmosphere and canalside views. Our starter of the tasting platter was very tasty, would recommend. My wife had the Dover sole which was amazing, my roast pork was good but not on the same level. The only issue was the service could have been better. No additional drinks were offered, even water and they gave us the wrong bill.

This restaurant has of the finest selections of freshly smoked salmon in all of England. Every bite will definitely crave for more of that umami deliciousness. There are so many other things to choose from, ranging from fish to meat, and desserts to fine wines. Personally, I would go for a salmon starter to start with, just to cold start your taste buds. Then meat, and to finish: a dessert. 10/10 would recommend

I have to be honest, I was not particularly looking forward to a day 'going round a fish factory' but purchased for my hubby's birthday (yes, sort of thing he loves). Was expecting "and that's vera on packing....and that's Bill on Slicing etc." - OH MY GOODNESS! The day was beyond excellent!!! There was absolutely none of that! We were greeted by an excellent member of staff for the tour (unfortunately, didn't get her name), who was very informative and explained what the tour would involve. We were given a choice of teas/coffees etc. and a brief 'visit' before the tour started. As I say, I was not expecting much, but the Mr Lance Forman (VERY HIGHLY ENTERTAINING), gave us a little talk on the trials and tribulations of upholding a family business that has been in the same area for 100+years. He was just so, so interesting to listen to and held my attention (and everyone else's actually), throughout. I could have listened for much longer. After a few anecdotes and stories, he did a small Q&A; session, for those on the tour that had further questions. We were then 'robed' and made our way down to the factory, where Mr Forman himself, shadowed by clearly, a very experienced member of staff, talked us through the process and gave a demonstration. I don't think I'm selling this very well, but it was actually excellent. We then led up to the restaurant, disrobed etc. and was provided with a salmon plate - and the various different types of salmon on offer. Excellent lunch, with the option to purchase a dessert for those 'wanting to take the fish off'. It was then, that my husband received his 'real' gift - a salmon carving masterclass by Mr Forman himself. Approximately 45 minutes of teaching and demonstration and the hubby undertaking the carving - it was more than excellent. They cut a sampler from the side of salmon and now, I am converted. It was a taste like I have never had. I can see now why I have not been over enamoured with the smoked salmon from the shops, it doesn't taste how it should, but I only know this now after tasting the real McCoy. To top our day, there was a great member of staff taking pictures etc. and she very kindly offered to send them on to me, which just made our day. When our day was done, we wereshown our coats etc and had another chat with the staff member that greeted us for the beginning of the tour. We spoke in length and she revealed that she had been working there for 10 years or so and she absolutely loved her job. And it showed. She was informative and happy. What a great recommendation. Great staff, great products, this Company clearly are doing something very, very right. We will be returning again to the restaurant without a doubt, but until then, we have the photographs - My only regret is that I didn't purchase the book 'Forman's Games', I could have got it signed.... whatever you do - GO, GO, GO!!!

Really nice salmon and fish platter. The best are the fish finger sliders. The Angus beef burger sliders are also very tasty. The food is a bit pricey.

This was my third visit to this fabulous restaurant which is just outside the Olympic Park with views over the stadium and canal. It's not a cheap evening meal, but it really is worth the expense.

Really excellent dinner, and the beef I had was equal at least to the best I have ever had, including in Michelin starred restaurants.

We attended the Forman's Salmon and Hush Heath English Wines tasting event, and had an amazing day. It was informative, tasty and entertaining. Headlining English produce it was refreshing and inspiring. Would definitely recommend, and would definitely go again.

My wife and I had been to Fish Island before (ten years earlier) revisiting the story of producing the “ finest Smoked Salmon” in the world. This visit was equally interesting and is a compliment to state that this visit and tasting of the different types of smoked salmon and the accompanying wines were equally fascinating!

Sometimes things just surprise you. We were up to visit our son from Dorset. He lives 2 minutes away from Formans and hadn't even found this place. We "told" him we were eating here and it blew his mind! Food was sooo good. The tasting Salmon starter was amazing. I never knew there was so many different tastes, textures and flavours to salmon but you could taste every element. I had the lamb, which was tender and delicious. My son had the turbot which was soft, and succulent and my husband and son's girlfriend had the steak which was incredible. We had drinks beforehand and 3 bottles of Chapel Hill English wine which was a revelation as we usually only every drink french wine. Inda, the Head Waiter was insightful with our choices and he and his team made us so welcome. The corridor to the toilets was a trip in itself with photos on one wall of "whose who" and the smokery process on the other. All in all such a great night and I wish we didn't live so far way.

It's a cosy, slightly sophisticated salmon restaurant. But if you fancy some meat then you'll also find some options for yourself. Great value for the price and the service is excellent. Definitely recommend visiting, at least for a great view of the former Olympic stadium.
