Given the lack of and the mixed reviews we came here not expecting much. We were however presently surprised at how amazing this dinner was. We had the gnocchi and the chickpea burger, both were delicious, but the gnocchi was especially amazing, the best I have ever had. We ended up going for the brownies and ice cream from the kids meal, which they scaled up to an adult portion, which was very hospitable of them. The lady serving us was excellent also. Only thing I would improve on would be the atmosphere, background music, dimmed lighting etc... Overall fantastic.

I have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel which was enjoyable. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. Our room was on the second floor and looked out onto the extensive grounds. I made a mistake by not enquiring as to whether the hotel had a lift as my sister-in-law had walking difficulties. However, she managed. Our meal arrangement was breakfast and dinner in the evening to include "nibbles" and two courses from the menu. If we required a further course, this was an extra. We had a delightful Vietnamese waitress on our first evening by the name of Le. She was absolutely charming. She informed us that this weekend the hotel had an Indian Wedding taking place and that an elephant would be arriving for the ceremony. We were sorry we couldn't witness the proceedings. One thing I would like to mention is that the hotel is on an incline and when exiting, it is very difficult to see the traffic approaching and a mirror on the opposite side of the road would be helpful.

Having vowed never to return to this restaurant, I found myself here with friends for afternoon tea - I was feeling disappointed. However, upon arrival.....fresh flowers in reception it looked lovely . The afternoon tea was so delicious. Fresh cut sandwiches not served from a fridge . Imaginative fillings fresh cooked little scones and pastries bite size and sheer heaven. Tea tray was laid with fresh crisp white napkins , sparking silver teapots, white china cups and saucers all beautiful. We had the most wonderful afternoon, not hurried the setting is delightful. Well done to Debbie and her team, this little hotel I feel is gong to go from strength to strength . I look forward to returning to try a Friday/ Saturday night supper very soon. HP - SURREY

Tried out the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and both were impressive. The breakfast buffet has good options including gluten-free breads on request. Sausages were really excellent. At dinner the staff were friendly, competent and the menu offers a decent range of foods. I tried the goat cheese salad, Vietnamese rolls and fish and chips - all of them were tasty and well presented. Deserts were absolutely fabulous as the chocolate with orange deluxe was superb. The setting itself is nice and my view from the window was calming and a great place to enjoy great food in a nice setting.

We dined here during our stay at the royal Berkshire hotel and had a wonderful meal. We travelled down from London on a Friday and booked a late dinner at FORK. For starters we enjoyed the quails scotch egg and for my main I ordered the fish and chips. Both courses were well cooked and presented. We were recommended the Ridgeview sparkling Rosé from Sussex which I hadn’t tried before and was pleasantly surprised - fresh and light, easy to drink. Albeit very quiet, with only 2 other couples dining, we had a great experience.

We stayed at the Royal Berkshire Hotel for two nights. We had lunch both of the days and dinner on the second which we requested to come to our room. Every dish was very good. Beautifully presented and delicious. There is however a lack of vegetarian options, I’m guessing that there was meat in about 70% of the menu. A few more nourishing meat free salads, pastas etc would have been great. As they offer pasta, we would have loved to see pizza on the menu too. Very impressed by their full English breakfast. My boyfriend had bacon and pork sausages while I had the veggie option. Would dine at FORK again, especially if they add a few more dishes to the menu.

We ate in the fork for 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner, on the first night we ate in the polo bar for dinner which is the same menu. The staff were exceptional very accommodating. On the first evening the manager introduced himself and asked us if there was anything they could make for our daughter that wasn't on menu. However she did eat from the menu and finished it on both nights which believe me is high praise, as she eats very small amounts. Myself and husband thoroughly enjoyed our dinners on both nights. Breakfast buffet there was a very good selection for adults and children we also had boiled egg, pancakes and porridge freshly made all of which was lovely. I had booked for 11 adults and 2 babies one month in advance, as one does with a large party. We were supposed to be in the restaurant area for Sunday lunch for our daughter's birthday. When I called the day before to reconfirm the arrangements, they told me there was no reservation and they were full that day. It turns out that staff had mis-booked us as 2 adults only. (Not sure how that happened.) I was to say the least extremely upset as booking an alternative for a large party was impossible. However, the restaurant came through gloriously - they gave us a private room at no extra charge and made sure that they could serve us Sunday lunch. This was massively better for us (and other restaurant goers) given the age of our babies! In the end we had a lovely day. Food was very good, well presented and in large portions. The children were also catered for. Everyone was happy. Thanks to the restaurant and lovely staff. Sorry it has taken me a while to write this up!

The table was not good with the Pepper mills broken and filthy. Then the food. No flavor on the starters. The roast beef was terrible, the potatoes were frozen aunt bessie type. The cauliflower cheese tasted if it was made with powder cheese. The meat it self was so dry. The turkey tasted like processed meat. We were asked if we wanted a Desert, we just wanted the bill. And left. We were given a reduction on the meal as we were not happy. But I'm sorry , a place like the Royal Berkshire Hotel. Which is advertised as a exclusive hotel long side Penny hill park , Manning Heath golf club Nr Horsham, Farnham hall Nr Ware ,Lainston House Winchester and the Manor House & golf club Nr Bath. I live very close to the hotel and had visited previously to look at facilities for a work event which I was impressed with, they've done a nice tasteful refurb. Sunday lunch looked good value with a set menu so thought worth a try. It was worth a try as the food was perfectly pleasant... I had the duck starter which was ok then I had the beef which was much better, not overcooked as sometimes happens and nice veg selection. Pudding also was good. What I think let it down was there was zero atmosphere in the room and only one older waitress who frankly seemed like it was all a bit of an effort. Strangely, the food was brought out by young energetic staff who then disappeared again leaving the just one lady to manage the tables. I did wonder if there was a staffing issue and didn't get the impression there was anyone in charge. So, despite having a perfectly pleasant lunch I wouldn't rush back and my comment to the hotel is use your other staff more and breathe a bit of life into the place as it is lovely.

went here for birthday dinner recently. We are local but have never had dinner here before. I was struck by the pleasant and fresh decor of the restaurant and really liked the colour scheme, the stripped wooden flooring and the chairs at the table were comfortable, a small point but one I value. The staff were friendly polite and attentive. I have several dietary requirements including gluten free and vegetarian. I did let them know beforehand and it didn't seem to be an issue. I was able to choose from the menu and the food was very good, tasty and well presented. Portions were good, didn't do dessert as had eaten enough from first two courses. Some reviewers have moaned that the restaurant lacks atmosphere and needs music. I would not agree, preferring the quiet, relaxed feel of the place and being able to take our time and enjoy conversation. I guess if you like roudyness this isn't the place for you. A tad on the expensive side for drinks I would say, but after all this is Ascot and a very nice venue so 'get what you pay for' springs to mind' we will return and had an enjoyable evening.

We've been a few times for lunch and apart from one or two glitches it's generally been a good experience. The location is lovely, the decor stylish and the fixed price Sunday menu very good value for such high quality food. For me the main attraction is that as well as the usual roast meat, they have at least one veggie and fish option available, and delicious desserts. The chick pea panisse with goat cheese mousse is a stand-out veggie dish. Downside is that it can be noisy even if half-empty. There have also been recent signs of decline, such as terrible cafetiere coffee and poor quality bread. Apart from one occasion, the service has always been excellent. The wine list is expensive but at lunchtime this is offset by the excellent value food.

The waiting staff are very polite but there was minimal interaction and if one wanted something after a course had been delivered they seem to have all disappeared. Also the room really echoes and we had to talk loudly at our corner table just to make ourselves heard, even though there were only a couple of other tables occupied.Overall I'd say the value is good considering the lovely surroundings but the experience didn't quite match the expectation a venue such as this creates.

I think the challenge with this place is that it is another restaurant in a hotel, which incidentally looks like it would be a nice place to stay. Other reviewers have mentioned that the ambience is so neutral that it actually lacks any atmosphere at all and this is a major issue...the fact that there were only about 3 other tables dining when we went also meant that the room was far too quiet and felt soulless notwithstanding the fact that the room is actually very pretty & very well furnished. We had two of the two course Sunday lunches plus a glass of wine each, which with service came to £60...not bad in the surroundings, although many might say that you can get that in a nice gastropub for sub-£50 and have far better atmosphere. In any scenario, the wine was reasonable, the food was well cooked and the service was impeccable...no reason for it not to be in a decent 4* hotel and with so few guests, but still of great credit to the team as it was clear they cared about their customers and ensuring they had a good time. There are also lovely hotel grounds you can walk around before or after your meal and ample parking. One bug bear is that I think service charge should never be automatically added to Bill...it should always be at customers discretion and be able to be paid in cash to the waiting staff direct.Overall, a very pleasant experience and I would go back...I just wish I could help them to add something to this restaurant to make it a bit more exciting and ultimately more popular as right now it's just a bit too sterile!

Restaurant was very quiet (Sunday evening) . Service very friendly and prompt. I had fish cakes to start which were generously sized and very nice so I had the Seared Tuna starter as a main course . This was very fresh, well presented and the accompaniments ( anchovies, quails egg etc) were lovely . Hobbies had steak pudding which he said was delicious. Starters were £5-9 and mains £12-20 . Too full for pud.

Booked here based off the pictures on trip advisor as we were staying at Coworth Park and fancied somewhere off site for my partners birthday, what a mistake! The restaurant looks nice but has no atmosphere at all, no background music and this is a shame because it's a nice room. Food was OK but nothing great although the wine was poor, really cheap quality and the white was not properly chilled.Don't get me wrong, I've been to many worse but the name and pictures give the impression of it being a special place but it's very average. Try Coworth it is fantastic as is the Belvadere Arms, both will not disappoint

The menu was very extensive, they had at least 5 vegetarian choices. They had a variety of main courses available including pasta, salads, burgers, steak. The waiters were very welcoming and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. The dessert choice was also large and I would highly recommend the fairground dessert. This comes with mini doughnuts, popcorn, mini candy apples, candyfloss and mini ice creams. It was definitely the highlight of the meal. The mains were lovely and fresh, the mushroom and parmesan pasta was very tasty and the garlic bread that came with it was also very nice. The hotel was very luxurious and it was nice to stay there after the meal. The meal was very filling!

I had the occasion to have meals in this restaurant recently during my stay in the Royal Berkshire. The buffet breakfast had good choices - not over the top but more than adequate nevertheless. Having breakfast here gazing out of the window at the wonderfully manicured lawns and elegant trees was a pleasure. The service was good, the staff courteous. Definitely a calming and pleasant experience.

The food really was very good, service was acceptable but the place lacked any atmosphere. We had planned on having a relaxed evening out but the entire meal was over in an hour due to such prompt service. I guess its an ideal place for an evening meal if you are staying at the hotel on business and just want a quick evening meal but for a couples night out it just didn't work.

The restaurant seemed very homely and welcoming and at the time we went down for breakfast (08:10) it was not too crowded. There was a wedding reception taking place on the day and this still didn't lead to the place becoming over crowded. The sausages were great and well cooked but the bacon was not how I like it (crispy). The scrambled eggs had a consistency akin to porridge and I precariously sampled a small spoon full. The beans were fine and I stayed away from the mushrooms and tomatoes as I don't believe in fried vegetables with my English breakfast. A few surprising additions to the buffet breakfast, "eggy bread" was there, a variation of a fried slice soaked in whisked egg. It was ok but I didn't think the egg added much to the flavor. Also on offer were a selection of pastries (croissants, min custard parcels, and Danishes), blueberry muffins along with fruit. Bread wise there was white and brown bread and surprisingly for a buffet breakfast, plain bagels along with smoked salmon. The salmon was delicious and the bagel adequate. The toaster took a bit long to toast the bread but I certainly wasn't affronted about having to make my own toast. A variety of spreads were available, peanut butter, Nutella, jams and honey. The honey was set though which was disappointing as my wife wanted to put some in her green tea. I ordered some coffee and it was weak and forgettable. There wasn't any butter available though and the table had two dollops of butter in a dish. This seems odd and I didn't want to pester staff for butter so I didn't engage in my pre meditated wanton destruction of toast and bagels, sticking to a single bagel and two slices of bread :( The staff did a good job of running the service and I look forward to sampling the delights again tomorrow. This time, opting for an Earl Grey tea as that is somewhat harder to mess up than the intricate art of a fine cup of coffee.

We stayed at the Royal Berkshire hotel and ate at the Fork restaurant during a lovely weekend away. The hotel is set in attractive woodland and has some beautiful gardens. The restaurant itself is seemingly deliberately simple in décor. The service was fine, but not amazing. Meanwhile, the food was really good. The portion sizes were just right and although the menu was not extensive, the dishes we had were original and really tasty. The red wine jelly was particularly good.

Having spoken about trying the food at fork for sometime we finally visited last night. The decor is lovely but we were the first table in and there was no atmosphere what so ever we asked the waitress why there was no music on and were told the managers don't like music so they don't have any. Do they not realise that music creates a nice relaxed atmosphere! We ordered our food which came out in good time and was very tasty. The duck croquettes are delicious!!! And the steak cooked to perfection. We decided to forego dessert. All in all a nice evening just a shame it lacked the all important atmosphere!!!!

A group of 4 dined here as a very rare work night out as we had heard good things about the restaurant. The grounds of the hotel are Beautiful, we purposely sat outside for a drink to enjoy them. When we walked through to the restaurant we were seated. And within 10 mins we were asked if we were ready to order countless timestimes. Even though the staff could see menus were still open and we were all still chatting away.Once ordered, starters arrived which were all very very good, however this is where the service started to fall down. When we were served mains, two of us had steaks. They presented us with a medium rare, we had ordered medium well and they said that's it but were not sure so had to go back to check. They then didn't know which steak was the medium one and which was the medium well. After we both cut into our steaks it turned out we had the wrong ones (good job we were in good company and didn't mind swapping!)We had to repeatedly ask for more drinks and had to ask more than once for them to arrive. We had to ask for pudding menus, when they came it turns out there was a deal that you got a free pudding if you had two courses (first we knew about this) but was only a selection of the desert menu so we had to ask for the one shown online (as I had my heart set on the fairground platter)Pudding was amazing!!All in all this is not a cheap place to dine so the service does need to improve and it let's the whole thing down

We visited this restaurant as we were staying at the hotel and it was convenient to eat in house. The menu was not large but the selection on offer was varied and I could easily have chosen several dishes. As it was I had the tuna niciose salad to start followed by the chicken, both were absolutely delicious but I thought the portions were on the small side. My husband had a burger which was more substantial and he said it was good. My only real criticism was that I thought they were understaffed....I know that they were expecting the restaurant to be quiet but it was pretty busy when we were there. The staff that were there were attentive however, we would have had dessert but the menu was not forthcoming so we gave up. Would I eat here again....yes definitely the food was great and I am sure the staffing issue was just a glitch.

We visited Fork on Mother's Day as a group of 6,including 3 Mothers and left feeling just a little uninspired. We arrived early for our table, but were not given the opportunity to relax with a pre-dinner drink as we had anticipated, but were shown to our table immediately. The restaurant is light, well decorated and has some lovely views across the grounds of the hotel. The service in the restaurant was at best average. It was by no means full, despite the day, but there were insufficient staff on hand to ensure that the service was efficient and effective. The staff who were on seemed slightly inexperienced as well - we were asked to order food before anyone had offered to take a drinks order. Our white wine arrived warm and had not been chilled and we were only once asked how our food was and that was when most of us had finished our main courses. We had to frequently try and attract the attention of serving staff who seemed unfocussed on their guests. The menus that we were also given gave no prices for the food, but did have prices for a limited selection of their wine on the reverse. We were not offered a wine list and had to ask for that. The food itself was good, not exceptional, but reasonable. However very limited vegetables were provided for a group of 6 of us. The menu had a limited range of choices to select from for each of the courses. What was disappointing was that no fuss was made of the ladies in our party, particularly given the day. No acknowledgement was even made by the staff of the occasion. A wasted opportunity in our eyes.We retired to the bar/lounge for coffee which was pleasant enough and finished the afternoon nicely, but we left feeling that we had just had an average experience. Not terrible, just nothing special at all and not one that would make us consider the restaurant that we would rush to return to.It all could have been so different had the service been focussed, professional and attentive. All very easy things to resolve.

There's nothing particularly wrong with the food at Fork - its just fairly ordinary and fairly typical of a hotel with a modern dining room but I did think it was over priced. Starters and desserts at £9 - even some of the Michelin star restaurants I've been to don't charge that much - but then it is Surrey. When I ate there on a Friday night it was half empty which says something. The room itself is modern and bright but not condusive to a romantic dinner. The food was nicely presented if a little style over substance. Wine list i felt was a pretty poor selection. If I stayed at the hotel again, I'd probably eat at Fork, only to save driving elsewhere. I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a destination restaurant. However I wouldn't recommend it at all for breakfast. The service was erratic and disorganised, plastic bread which took ages in the self service toaster, one cup of tea and noone around to ask, and my poached egg was a big ball of water when I broke into it and it soaked into the toast making it soggy and inedible. Very unpleasant.

Had a family dinner here - to take a break from the cooking and washing up over Christmas.Excellent food, service and surroundings, but lacks ambience. Perhaps a bit of music wouldn't have gone amiss. If this was a high street restaurant it would be deservedly busy, but I guess it struggles to break free of its 'hotel restaurant' image. Perhaps the day after boxing day it was never going to be busy, but it was a Saturday night and I would have expected more diners. We had Duck, Salmon and Ham for starters which were all excellent. Then Cod, Rib eye steak, and Beef and Chorizo burger for main. The cod with giant couscous was nicely cooked, though if you are going to serve it with just one prawn then the prawn needs to be a bit bigger to impress, otherwise it looks a little lonely and lost. That said it was still an excellent dish.My wife said her steak was beautifully cooked, tender, juicy and tasty. The burger was huge. It and the steak both came with nice sides. We didn't have room for a dessert - but retired to the hotel lounge for coffee and sat near an open fire.It looks a nice place to come in the summer when you can make more use of the patio and grounds.Prices were normal for the area (Ascot/Sunningdale restaurants aren't cheap), but was reasonable value considering the quality, service and location.I would recommend locals giving it a try.

We wanted to tell customers how fantastic The Royal Berkshire Hotel is. We are a recommended supplier of entertainment for weddings and events at The Royal Berkshire, but this review is more based on a customer experience celebrating my wife Iva's birthday with our three children at the venue on Sunday 14th December 2014. It started when I visited the venue on Wednesday evening to book the table and was dealt with by Simone on reception. Simone really made me feel welcome and was so helpful and efficient. The booking process was made so easy and nothing was too much trouble. I felt confident that we had made the best choice in booking the table at the venue for a family celebration, as I was looking for something to impress. On arriving on Sunday we was greeted by Rupert Dickinson who is the reception manager. We was taken good care of and taken to meet Paul Coles, the food and beverage manager who then took care of us for the duration of our stay in Fork Restaurant. I would like to thank Paul and his team for hosting such a lovely Sunday lunch. The food was the best Sunday lunch we have ever had, and the service was a mix of professional and friendly manner that really made the experience perfect. I chose The Royal Berkshire to celebrate my wife Iva's birthday because we wanted somewhere local that was special to celebrate with my family, children friendly and you delivered it perfectly. As the recommended disco supplier to the hotel, it was a real privilege to be on the customer side of the service for this occasion. I would also like to say Frank who was assisting in the restaurant really made our time special. Frank is a real assist to the hotel. Please pass on our thanks to Frank, the chefs and all of the staff on our behalf. We look forward to coming back to Fork Restaurant in the future. And we are looking forward to continuing our great working relationship together for many years ahead. Regards Darren and Iva

We had arranged a small family get together and decided that we would meet up at the Fork Restruant at the Royal Berkshire Hotel as they offer such a great venue which has lovely grounds to take stroll in weather permitting. After meeting in the large carpark my aunt wanted to give her dog a walk in the large grounds so we all decided to take a 15 minute stroll before having pre lunch drinks in the Polo bar. Upon entering the hotel lobby you are welcomed in with a warm smile by one of the receptionists, so into the bar area for drinks which quickly arrive at our table along with the lunch menus for viewing. Then it's on into the main restruant which was pretty busy with other guests, after a few minutes are orders are taken, more drinks orderd and within no time our startes arrived. We all decided upon the Duck Croquettes which are simply heavenly nice but not to heavy so as to spoil your main roast lunch choice. We all decided upon the traditional Sunday Lunch either Roast Beef or Roast Turkey or for a couple of us we couldn't avoid asking for a slice of both! The Lunches arrive very well presented with small jugs of gravy and cranberry sauce upon them were applicable and a nice looking Yorkshire pudding, the dishes are accompanied by two large bowls of freshly cooked vegetables, one large dish of cauliflower cheese and an even bigger dish of roast potatoes.Silence fell upon the table as we all tucked into our feast of Sunday roast the quality of the food was simply fantastic and well worth the money, five clean plates and very little within the side bowls. After about 30 minutes we were asked to look at the choices of desserts which surprisingly we all found space for.The Sunday lunch menue her offers great value giving you two dishes for under £20 or three like we all went for at £24, the food is freshly prepared and cooked it looks nice and tastes fantastic. The staff are all very pleasant ensuring your visit is one to remember for all the right reasons, the hotel is a very nice unimposing building making you feel at home.Another great visit to this hotels restruant just a shame we hadn't booked our Christmas day lunch here as we found out on enquiring that they are fully booked with over 200 lucky dinners. We will just have to wait until next year to visit again.

We use to go to this restaurant years ago, them days it was different, good quality fine dining in a stuffy room with overpriced wines. But they did a good Sunday lunch and afterwards you could walk around the gardens. The new concept, I am not sure about, though I came for Sunday lunch and found the menu a little limited with dishes such as cured ham with piccalilli, which was okay, would of been nicer and more skilful if it was a cooked ham, or terrine or something a bit more interesting. We all went for the very lean sirloin of beef cooked rare, and my opinion it was too lean, it needed a bit of fat to help the mature flavour come out of the meat. Hard Yorkshire didn't help as well and under seasoned roast potatoes. We never stayed for desserts.
