Just wonderful......veggie food that tastes A-MAY-ZING......:)

Great food although the House Burger has changed and was not as good as it used to be, in my opinion. Pasta was delicious as always and the starters and desserts were amazing. Fantastic service and a very nice atmosphere. One thing that bugs me every time I come here is that they include a "service charge" (or tip) on the bill when they bring it. This makes it feel like a mandatory tip... I disagree with this way of "tipping" as surely it should be at the customers discretion, and not just added on the bill when the customer receives it. On this occasion, I asked for it to be removed from the bill as if I want to tip the staff, I will do this of my own accord and not because it is automaticly put on my bill (at 12.5%). I do wonder whether the staff receive the full tip if paid as part of the bill, or whether the owners take a cut. Anyway, other than this, a nice evening.

My wife and I are carnivores, but the food in this place is great. We have been going there for years although due to my own ill health not eaten out for a long while. In fact, my health has affected my taste buds and I'm struggling to find foods that I like enough to eat more than a mouthful. So when the butternut squash and carrot soup arrived, the waiter put the plate in front of me and my nose picked up an aroma immediately, I was more than a little excited. Sure enough it tasted it wonderful as it smelt. I could have licked the bowl clean if I wasn't in public view haha! I had the wild mushrooms and pasta for a main course. Maybe I am a little bias because I do like mushrooms but that was so delicious. We shared a side portion of their wonderfully cooked chips. Cooked to perfection! My wife had the same soup, and then a butternut squash, served in a sweet peppers chicken pea and tomato sauce. I tried one mouthful. Her's was delicious too. We also had deserts. My wife doesn't like ginger but the waiter was extremely helpful to get right a sponge that would normally have been served with a ginger sauce! It was a busy Friday lunchtime when we ate. The staff worked hard but obviously service wasn't instant. We weren't in a rush. We were talking with the staff they were smiling, laughing, being helpful. We felt valued customers. Go to MacDonalds if you want instant service. Go here if you want great food with a smile!

Really disappointed on this occasion. It was spexially booked for a birthday and 4 of us attended. It was pretty quiet when we arrived and the server was less than enthusiastic. Polite but he seemed to have his mind elsewhere. We ordered a range of food althought the menu seemed 'sparce' without a lot of choice apart from the drinks menu which seemed jam packed! We asked for Gluten Free bread which they said they didn't have which was also a bit of a let down. The food was not very tastey and franlly was not up to the same standard as previous visits. They did 'comp' one of our dishes without a quibble which seemd as though theu weren't surprised. Not mich other feedback was asked for either or how they could hsve improved. Disappointing I am sorry to say.

Really excellent food and top rate service from all the staff. If you’re not sure what to eat ask as you’ll get great advice. Portions are on the large side so great value, 1 portion of chips sever two of us easy for example. Great wine list also defo ask the staff about the wine

Love it here, always my go to restaurant. Hearty , healthy vegetarian food,decent portions and nice ambiance.

The harissa carrots and the squash are unreal. Nice staff too.

(Editing since previous experience. ) Came for a lunch last week. Super yummy and very friendly people who have taken over from previous management. Especially enjoyed the mandarin sponge pudding and the fact that our dog could come. I’m so happy that there is such a lovely restaurant to go in Brighton with so many vegan options. We will definitely be returning.

Used to be one of my favourites places in Brighton for vegetarian food, but FFF has really gone down hill. A confusing, and a bit of a pretentious menu, which fails to impress overall and in my opinion, with dishes that are way overpriced for what actually arrives on the plate. Toilets a mess, the whole place in need of an overhaul. Experience made a little more pleasant by a young waitress who was very helpful in taking her time to suggest some dishes and some things on the menu. A friendly member of the team…. On first impressions, there was no greeting on the door or a warm welcoming reception on arrival by a host, just a guy behind the bar looking miserable, and the bar looking a little worse for wear. Much prefer Terre a Terre

Both me and my partner have been vegetarians for a few months now, for Valentine’s Day I decided buy us vouchers for Food for Friends as it’s local to us and the reviews looked great. We booked a table for the Sunday just gone. It did not disappoint! We were greeted by lovely friendly staff , one showed us to our seats and provided us with menus and talked us through the specials. We were delighted with what the menu had to offer, the wine list was great too. We both picked the Indian inspired butternut Swash roast which came with all the trimmings. The portion was great and the taste was incredible. We will definitely be back and will be recommending this to everyone as a great place to visit!

Probably the best vegetarian food I have ever had. Good quality, fresh produce, combined to form delicious dishes, prepared to order and beautifully presented with generous portion sizes too. We had the Garden Bowl and Harissa Cauliflower with sourdough bread and pesto which were fab. Staff were friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was fairly informal, which only added to the overall experience. Price was £30 per head without alcohol, so good value for money, in my view, for food of such a high standard. Highly recommended!

Came today for lunch and had some great food of a very high standard. I had three of the small plates and my mother had the garden bowl. All the food was amazing and the staff were also great and very helpful in regards to the menu and food allergies.

Not always my exact taste (thats just me) but still top quality and Have had plenty of good surprises.

Friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The menu was not as varied at it used to be years ago, would be good see a few more simple vegetarian dishes. Bill £147 for 3 people, bottle of red wine Tempranillo £27. 2 starters, 3 main meals and 3 deserts. Service charge included, check it as may have been discretionary.

Just awful and nothing compared to what it was a few years back when it was managed by others who actually cared about their customers and the quality of the food. Avoid like the plague - service = zero, food = zero and ambience = zero.

Going back a good few years when this restaurant was owned by others who cared about customer service and food quality, this place was amazing. These days if you want really bad service, poor food with zero atmosphere try here. If I could give minus stars I absolutely would.

Visited with friends and was really excited to try having been a veggie living in Brighton my whole life. The food was very underwhelming, ordered the mushroom pasta which has almost no taste and arrived cold. Was also charged £12 for an alcohol free mocktail which is just ridiculous. Staff seemed in a bad mood and overall our experience was poor. You can get better veggie/vegan food at local pubs for half the money.

Have to say I was a little bit disappointed with the evening at food for friends. Service left a lot to be desired on a couple of levels, however, the food itself was very enjoyable.

Perfect veggie place. I am a meat eater and was very satisfied by the food. Great atmosphere. Mo, our waiter, was so welcoming and had such a warm charm. 10/10 recommendation.

Very flavour some meal. All three of us really enjoyed our meals.It was peaceful in the restaurant but had good service. Will visit again when next in Brighton.

We went for a late lunch / early dinner on Saturday and had a brilliant time. The restaurant is beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. Best of all, the food was delightful, and there was a great selection of vegan-friendly dishes. We really appreciate the focus on vegetables rather than vegan 'meat' replacements. We shared the Chantonay Carrots, Crispy Oyster Mushrooms, and Confit Garlic Sourdough Bread to start, and all three were delicious. We all agreed that the carrot dish in particular stood out as having a great range of flavours. For our mains, we had the Celeriac Wellington, Butternut Squash, and Mushroom pasta (the latter two mains are shown in the pictures). All three large plates were very tasty and beautifully presented. I can recommend the mushroom pasta dish to anyone who is particularly hungry as it was a large portion. The prices were not cheap but the food we had was much nicer than some other vegan-friendly restaurants with similar prices, and the service was very good. Aside from the food, we each had non-alcoholic or low alcohol drink and the bill including service charge was equivalent to £33 per person.

Disappointing overall - food was slow to come out (a quiet Saturday lunchtime) and was pretty average and overpriced - £9-10 for veggie small plates is steep. Would not go back.

Food and atmosphere weren't bad but service was very poor - we waited 1.5 hrs to get our mains with little explanation provided as to why it was so slow. Do not recommend.

Excellent food, with plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options. Cheerful, helpful staff and table service with generous portions.

Second time coming here and again it did not disappoint! The deep fried olives were so delicious and the other foods were equally tasty as well as aesthetically beautiful. We had nice seats and the atmosphere was just right, not too loud and not empty. Will be back again some time I’m sure.

Food is fantastic. Its vegetarian but not like you've ever had before. Service was a little forgetful but always with a smile. Will be visiting again soon.

Really gone downhill. Ordered a plant based burger and got a Beyond burger which you can get in any pub. Used to be a great little restaurant but standards have dropped. The seats were torn and formika tables peeling. Very sad to see how much it has deteriorated.

Went with my brother as his treat for me for taking him on the i360. We had a lovely table by the festive window, a bit of music in the background would have been nice. The food was awesome, we had 4 small plates plus a side dish. All beautifully presented. Tasted delicious.. all vegetarian. Great choices! Highly recommend.

After hearing great things I was looking forward to visiting. I was blown away by how bad the experience was for the expensive price. The food was terrible and lacked any care. Some of the dishes seem warmed up or are just plain weird - a Thai salad that is more a cold soup?! Seriously very disappointing for all of our group on the service front too - A disgruntled man took us to a table with modern furniture on the turn and the service is also incredibly slow. If you’re looking for great veg / plant based food look elsewhere.

I had booked a table for 8;15 and was shown to the only table not made up, no table cloth or anything when in comparison to other tables nearby was lacking. I was given a wine menu with more than half the pages missing! I had to wait quite some time for ordering and no one came to offer a top up of wine when I'd finished mine. The food was nice, but not very hot. I was dining on my own and had only one course but didn't leave until after 10:00 which I think is a long time for what I had and is an example of how long everything took. Solo diners would still like the same level of service as groups! I'd def go back as I have heard amazing things about it, perhaps I just caught them at a bad time.

I recently dined at this restaurant in Brighton and, unfortunately, I must say the experience was far from pleasant. The service was abysmally slow and noticeably unattentive. Despite being aware of our dissatisfaction, the server seemed indifferent and, shockingly, almost spiteful in their demeanor. It was so slow that we witnessed other couples leaving before even placing their orders. I regret to say this restaurant is not one I can recommend based on this experience.

Great service and lovely food which was wonderfully presented

Came to food for friends a few weeks back now but have been meaning to write a review. Food was delicious, staff very friendly. Our waitress Isabel took her time to clear explain some of the items on the menu to help us decide what we wanted - super helpful and friendly. Loved the atmosphere and the location too. Thank you

This place has changed hands so many times over the years and I have always been disappointed by the food. A friend arranged a meeting here so I thought I’d try it one last time. There are so many excellent vegetarian and vegan places in Brighton please don’t waste your time or money here. I was fooled by the florid wording of the dish that was basically pasta, with what tasted like sainsburys pumpkin sauce out of a jar poured on. The seeds and flowers thrown over it was a poor disguise for an £18 bowl of veggie pasta. The staff seemed to be unhappy too, slamming down plates on our table, huffing and complaining to each other.

We really enjoyed Food For Friends. In fact a friend recommended it to us. The presentation was beautiful and I would rate the food delicious and inventive. There were some really great flavor combinations. I had the squash rigatoni and my husband had the Thai salad- he liked it but said it was just a tad salty - mine was spot on and much better than my version of this dish. The restaurant itself probably needs a good going over of an update- stuff just looked like it has reached its tired and worn stage, but we were comfortable and the decor is modern just worn. The bar looked nice and over all I definitely recommend.

One of the tastiest Vegan/Vegetarian dinners in Brighton. Super chill and lovely staff who are so very accommodating. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Went here with my parents to celebrate my birthday and had a lovely lunch. It was nice to know I could eat everything on the menu for a change. We started with some bread and beetroot hummus, which was delicious, then as mains we had crispy chilli tofu, rocket salad, a plant burger and a Sri Lankan curry. These were all wonderfully presented and tasted phenomenal. I was particularly taken with my curry, it looked and tasted different from every curry I’ve had before. It tasted very fresh and was perfectly spiced and very fragrant. Dessert was another triumph, given I had ordered what I thought was a small plate of truffles I hadn’t expected too much. What arrived was a beautifully presented plate of truffles and fruit. The server throughout was certainly attentive, but felt a little terse at times, as though asking for some tap water was an imposition. Overall though a very positive experience and one I would happily repeat.

Very nice vegetarian pub grub that is mostly vegan. There's a huge choice of meals and the Sunday dinner is outstanding. Nice wine list and by the glass at reasonable prices.

Went for lunch and tried the Asian Tofu Salad - it was amazing, really special flavours and wide range of ingredients. Great vegetarian food. Staff were lovely and friendly too. Wonderful!

A wonderful little restaurant ending a lovely day visiting Brighton after 20 years.

I booked a table for 5.45 on a Monday evening. A quiet time for a quality restaurant. Anyway service was professional. The ambience was pleasant. The vegan options I chose, soup of the day (beetroot) with a couple of pieces of toasted sourdough was delish. The main course, banana blossom and chips was a little too elaborate for me. It was tasty but I'd have preferred plainer peas and a slightly bigger portion of battered banana blossom and a few more chips. I had a bottle of tap water. It cost £29.25 which given the effort going into the food is, in my opinion, a fair price. I would definitely come again.

Had a lovely dinner here! Reservation recommended, but they squeezed us in on a Monday. We tried the corn ribs, foccacia, and a rigatoni with housemade sauce. Everything was high quality and my non vegan partner said this was one of his favorite meals the entire trip!

Cold and dark. Staff was weird. Uninterested waiter. Couldn't care less about our wellbeing. We ate an excellent veggie burger, but the supps where 'mwoah'. We won't return. Too bad, concept looked promising.

went for Lunch ,had good memories from years ago of this place however our experience was terrible . shown to a seat which was torn and peeling its leather and dirty with food , the waitress stood by while I cleaned it off..I asked for another table and was directed to another dirty one which was also broken , the floors were also dirty with food , the waitresses 3 of them laughed as we left

Gone so downhill from what it was, the befuddled member of waiting staff didn’t help the situation either. Edit: forgot to add that the Wolfox beer was hands down the worst piss I have ever had the displeasure of drinking, wouldn’t go near it again, not even with a 12’ brewing pole! Also a ruined birthday experience with someone who had persuaded to go based on having eaten there years ago and really enjoyed it then. The owner has clearly massively neglected this restaurant to focus on new ventures. Will not last long in its current state!

We booked a table for 9 and we're given a nice alcove so we could chat. Food and wine was excellent. Music a bit too loud but they turned it down when asked. Thank you for a great evening

FFF never fails, there is a reason this place has been going for so long. I have only been a handful of times over the 3 decades I have lived here, but every single time the food, ambience and service are a total cut above. This time we came with friends from abroad and they were blown away. Thanks for a great evening, I definitely won't leave it so long next time.

Amazing food, the head chef manages to capture amazing food that's doesn't sound weird but also has such unique flavours and artistic presentation. Food for friends has had ups and downs for many years, but it seems it's finally managed to have a great menu, which is both an exciting experience and great value for money. I highly recommend FoodforFriends if you're looking for something new and fresh Indepth: The crispy tofu truly was crispy, something extremely difficult to replicate yourself. The garlic sourdough with salsa verde was a crispy crunchy delight, not your typical garlic bread. The pani puri perfectly captures the essence of Indian street food whilst bringing the flavour profile into the fine dining scene. What a treat! The crispy potatoes were by far the best I've had in many years, crispy on the outside, soft and warm in the middle. The goats cheese and fig on sourdough were plated beautifully with an exciting garnish full of contrasting flavours, I will definitely be coming back to have this again. Sweet corn ribs have become a bit of a trend, and usually, they're overpriced and boring. This clearly isn't one of those cases. The sauces combined with the sweet crunchy rib show us truly how good vegetables can be. Finally the sweetheart cabbage was the biggest surprise, to turn a humble cabbage into a dish so complex, yet so simple is remarkable, dishes like this show the true talent of a chef and clearly Food for Friends only hires the best. Cocktails were decent, classic cocktails were standard, their own cocktails were an element above, but the food massively outshines the cocktails. This makes sense considering it's a restaurant, not a cocktail bar. Conclusion: Treat yourself and visit FoodforFriends, I know I'll be going again soon.

We only went, because we wanted to eat something small and sit in the sun ... and we were surprised by the very good food and the nice service. Next time, we´ll be in Brighton, we´ll go straight to FfF!

Great service & delicious food . Will definitely be back

Service was really friendly & efficient, (though it was made evident the kitchen was closing (around 915 pm). Sadly, food was distinctly average, which is a shame, as we’ve used FFF quite a few times over the years for breakfast & lunch & really enjoyed it. The restaurant is attractive & has a spill of pavement tables which are just lovely on sunny days. Hope this poor experience was a blip.

I vowed I wasn't going to publicly slate a hard working restaurant ..but sadly they have not responded to my message from a month ago and an email a few days ago. Food was awful . Waiter laughed in our face . And still had to pay for uneaten food .

This was the 2nd of 2 vegetarian restaurants I'd booked in Brighton and it really was very good. We had some homemade bread to share and then we ordered the "Fish" n chips that we saw other people having. It's actually battered banana blossom which...

Delicious food, lovely decor and friendly staff.

The greeting felt a bit odd, it seemed to be a three person process - a bit serious. But the man who took our order and served us was very helpful and friendly - but a little like he was lifting himself out of what might have been an uncomfortable situation. We had the harrisa cabbage, which was great, the crispy garlic bread which was pretty good - lots of pesto on 2 slices, not much on the other 2. And the tomato and aubergine pasta - which wasn't great. There was no aubergine that we could see.. so it seemed like it was just tomato sauce and pasta with a few small pieces of vegan feta - a very straightforward dish. It's not a cheap place, not the most expensive. It didn't feel as good as it could have been - ok, and could do better. I hope it does.

The food was amazing and the waiters were very nice. I forgot my doc martins there and they were waiting for me to rush back!

I attended this restaurant on 27/08/2023 for lunch. I’m leaving this review as I emailed the management directly with no response! The poor service we received left us really disappointed and very late to our next booking. We were seated outside at 1:50pm. We ordered a bottle of wine and bread for starters as we waited for our mains to arrive. (our mains were ordered separately). It got to 2:50pm until the server asked us if we had ordered any mains (of which we ordered with her over 30 minutes before). We were understandably very disappointed and advised the staff that we had another booking at 3:30pm. There was no apology which set the tone on a back foot. We were reassured that the chefs would be advised of the time constraints we have. It still took over 20 mins to arrive. When the food did arrive we asked for condiments and also took some time to arrive. This was particularly frustrating as there was a table next door who were clearly friends with one of the servers, and they were being served very efficiently. The meal was not relaxing as we were stressed we were going to miss out on our booking. We got the bill in advance in order to speed the process along. When we went inside to pay we were ignored by staff and had to interrupt one as she was loading the dishwasher. Due to this we were late to our next booking by 15 mins. We had heard such good things about this restaurant and we were very excited to finally eat with you. The attitude of the staff left us really disappointed. I hope this can be a learning point for the staff in order to ensure the best care of your future customers.

I visited on a quick trip from London and heard a lot of good thing about the place. I was rather disappointed, the staff made me feel like they were unhappy to work there and unenthusiastic. We also waited about 50min/60min for our food to arrive with no apology from the waiter when it did come. The food was nice but nothing out of the ordinary, I enjoyed the kimchi salad a lot.

Very poor (non existing) service! Food for friends was recommended this place, for the food and the atmosphere! Tho my personal experience this evening I can say I am quite unhappy with how we were treated, we were greeted by a male waiter, that did not look at us at all, was looking everywhere else then, when he took our order was quite rude to say the least! Kept on asking is that all to us all, as if we had not ordered enough. We were simply not that hungry, I had to ask him twice for my drink order! Our food took ages to arrive , our waiter was no where to be seen. When we did received the food it was lovely. Real shame about the service. The real bad icing on the cake was when the bill was presented, we wanted to split it up (as we were with friends) and his tone of voice was more than rude. In fact we debated if we should actually pay the service charge . Nevertheless we paid it all in full and he then persisted we had got the wrong amount - when we added it up in front of him he simply shrugged his shoulders and started clearing our plates. No apology nothing. Quite rude and not what I expect from a restaurant of this quality.

The waitress who served us could be likened to a belligerent teenager who didn’t seem to care when we got served. We asked to speak to the manager who was reluctant to hold a conversation let alone arrange for our food to be delivered to our table. She seemed more interested in chatting to the waiter then worrying about where our food might be given we had to wait 90 mins for it. We would very much like a conversation with the owner to express our concerns directly about how the state of service at the restaurant and pure ignorance of the serving staff who just don’t care about customer service. Such a shame that FoF has deteriorated as it has with front of house staff that just don’t care… No proper apology and discretionary 12.5% added to the bill!

Absolutely appalling service! I’m hoping - for the owner’s sake - that this was a summer/temporary or replacement staff as they were a group of inexperienced, belligerent young people who clearly didn’t want to be there. The unreasonably long wait for food was certainly not worth it. Will not be going back. Save your money and go elsewhere. Long gone are the days when FFFriends was the place to go for vegetarian food. Such a shame!

Perfect spot for eating and people watching in arguably the coolest spot in Brighton. We received a warm welcome and ate some really great food whilst we sat and took in our surroundings on the seating outside. A great place with loads of Vegetarian options.....

We had such a lovely meal for our anniversary. The food is amazing, never had a bad meal here. The manager went above and beyond to make sure we had a special day. Thank you so much!

Awful service. Starters didn’t show up at all, there was no rice to accompany a curry, which was replaced with a chapati with no apology, and the server was totally unenthusiastic and lacking experience. Pasta dish was served cold. Very low quality wine selection. Interior is tired. Waste of money and won’t be returning.

I've been to Food for Friends several times over the years but the past 2 times have been a bit disappointing and I probably won't bother coming back again which is a shame. I visited in December on a Saturday and the service was quite slow and there was no atmosphere, we felt like we were being rushed out the door at 10pm because they wanted to go home which felt weird on a Saturday in Brighton but we put this down to people saving money before Christmas so it was a quiet. I made a return visit for dinner on Friday and I was again quite disappointed. There were two of us that had a booking at 7.30pm but we didn't leave until 10.30pm because we had such a long wait between each course. The food was nice but some items felt like food I could have easily made at home. It's a shame because this restaurant used to be a lot better but when the bill comes to over £100 you want to make sure you're having a great time and I don't think it's worth the money anymore.

Each time we come they are out of the items I would like to try. The waitress waited until we'd spent time deciding what we wanted to let us know two of the items we wanted were unavailable. The first time I visited the same menu items was also gone. It would be helpful to have that information when we sat down. I took most of my dinner home. I just went to eat it and there's a hair in it that is definitely not mine. I'm so disappointed, it's too expensive to waste that much food and money.

Amazing food, literally every dish was dance party in my mouth!! Terry is an excellent waiter despite having broken his wrist. The most delicious evening with one of my oldest friends and this restaurant surpassed my gastronomic expectations. Order all the small plates! Get the Sea Change Rose!

Love this restaurant. Beautiful food and atmosphere. Went to town on the small plates and sides. Everything was great but especially loved the crispy tofu, kimchi salad, panzanella and confit garlic sourdough. Get the Sea Change rose.

Despite having lived in Brighton all my life, I'd never been here until yesterday. And I can't wait to go back again. The food really is top tier. I had the mushroom scallops and the burger, and I could gladly eat both dishes for the rest of my life. One of the guys running the restaurant was a little intimidating, but apart from that. Everything was perfect.

Many years ago (1980’s) I used to live in Sussex and this used to be a regular eating place for me. I now live miles away but love to return here on my rare visits. It has never failed me, although it is more stylish now rather than the rustic hearty food of the 1980s. This evening visit was perfect! We were served by the lovely and helpful Terry, and the food was beautiful both visually and in taste. It was good to be back! Thank you!

Back in Brighton for a short holiday and to see all the old familiar sights. We had to do Food for Friends again and it was great to see that it's still wonderful. We had an EXCEPTIONAL meal, the best of our 3 week UK...

Good quality food but menu a bit limited. Very friendly service.

While being seated in a nearly empty restaurant they had to sit us right next to other guests which was a bit annoying however the botanist room decor was very pretty and it was all very clean (including the toilets). Service was quick and friendly, menu had plenty of options for everyone and they allowed me to remove the chillis from my pasta. While there were a couple of classic dishes like the curry/ the pasta was new and interesting. While certainly not the tastiest dish- it was warm, comforting and the fried capers on top were delicious. However I would say it was a bit on the expensive side and probably wouldn’t come back for that meal but would definitely try something else.

Amazing local Brighton resturant offering amazing vegetarian dishes. We had a Sunday roast which tasted unbelievably good. Amazing flavours and top notch roast potatoes. Staff were nice and atmosphere was lovely, filled with lots of real plants. Highly recommend for anyone in the area!
