I booked here on a whim and I am so glad I did. Absolutely fantastic staff and general experience overall. We were offered to use the cocktail bar before our meals which was a lovely experience. The staff were impeccable and kind. The food was wonderful (especially the wasabi sorbet starter nd my partner thouroughly enjoyed the duck starter- said it was the best duck he had ever had). They also did a fantastic selection of alcohol free and its the first time I had seen a non alcoholic espresso martini on offer!) I highly rate this restaurant!

We had been told Fletchers House was a good restaurant and it is. Excellent food service and atmosphere. Amuse bouche to start which were delicious followed by a small cup of tomato soup before our ordered starters which were really delicious. Our mains were both very good and the portions generous. A very tasty pear sweet to finish. Good wines at reasonable prices. I could not fault the service. Great to find another restaurant in Rye where the chef really knows how to cook and to enjoy a meal at a reasonable price for such good food. We will tell our friends and we will be back. Recently refurbished, this was a comfortable place to enjoy a relaxed lunch with friends. The food was good, and the 2 or 3 course set menu was good value: especially as they also give you amuses bouches, then a coffee cupful of soup before the first course arrives. I was somewhat surprised at the price of coffee: not unreasonable that this should be extra, but £5 for an espresso, with a service charge in addition, seemed over the top.

The food was exceptional and head chef Matt and his sous chef deserve recognition. We’ve been twice and we’ve booked again in a couple of months. The menu is spot on. Not over elaborate, with a decent wine list at reasonable prices. If I had one minor quibble (and I mean minor) it’s that the chairs are a little low for the tables in some instances. It won’t detract from 5* though. Keep it up guys

When I visited Rye, it was rainy and cold. There were not so many tourists. This restaurant was open and seemed to welcome visitors. So we had lunch there. We had typical English meals such as bangers & mash, a jacket potato, soup... foods were delicious, but I think we ordered too much for 2 of us as my family didn't realize the size of the potato. Anyway, we had a good time and it become the one of our nice memories in UK which we still talk about and laugh. Thanks for the nice homemade meal! I love the picture of lady's room door. 😊

Visited on a sunny cold November Monday - we’d prebooked having read reviews and as it was my birthday trip I didn’t want to miss out! We’d planned to have the afternoon tea as lunch but were not in the mood for sweet overload so went for the Welsh rarebit instead. Fantastic. Every mouthful was sublime, savoury, mustardy- fabulous bread and ham. With just about enough salad to cut through the richness. Friend had soft drink, I had cappuccino- which under the froth was a bit disappointing. For dessert we ordered a cream tea- sharing 2 scones/cream/jam and I had the tea which was much nicer than the coffee. The scones were fantastic- I’m a foodie/cook and these were very very good. All round superb visit and we will definitely return/recommend.

I visited this cafe today and it’s a real shame that my experience here was ruined by a single encounter with a staff member who appeared to either be a manager or the owner. I have recently had my first child who was with me and I needed to change him. I went upstairs to the ladies without him first to check whether there were baby change facilities and I couldn’t see any but I noticed a large storage room next to the ladies with an empty table so I thought I would change him there to avoid using the tables downstairs where people are eating. Mid way through me changing my baby this man came to tell me in a harsh tone that there was baby change in the corridor and that this room was ‘out of bounds’. He then preceded to stand there and he seemed to be waiting for me to move my baby to the baby change when I was already half way through changing him. Since the baby change was in the corridor I had not noticed it and of course I would have used it had I known it was there. Anyway, I decided to just finish changing my baby where I was as it would be very difficult for me to move my half naked baby and the changing bag and all the wipes and nappy bag over to the baby change and as my baby was crying, this man was making a stressful situation even more stressful for me by standing there making me feel under pressure and not offering to help at all. I really feel he should have been more kind. Experiences like this in public can put new mothers off from going out of the house, luckily I’m not one who will allow myself to be intimidated so this experience will not deter me from getting out and about with my baby but I won’t be coming back here. It says on their website that they are friendly- most of the staff certainly were, the food and drink seemed nice and the decor of the place was lovely but it’s a shame about this one individual.

Fantastic tea room. A quintessentially "English" experience with Apple Crumble and Earl Grey by the bucket-load. The ancient building is incredible, and feels like it's straight out of a Dickens novel (despite being much much older (Tudor, I think)). The food was lovely and the service was friendly, despite being a busy-busy day. I've knocked a star off the rating due to it feeling overcrowded when full, but I'd still go back.
