Flat Rock Bistro in Ceredigion

Great Food during a very busy Sunday lunch service. The staff went over and above to provide excellent food despite a packed restaurant. One of us is vegan and diabetic. They catered for my needs superbly, even providing an off menu sugar free desert.

Nice atmosphere with friendly staff and good food

To be honest we had dressed for Sunday lunch. The last time we ate at this bistro it was silver service and Italian waiters. Having got over the initial shock of finding it a very family friendly and not silver service place, we settled down to an enjoyable Sunday roast with goodish vegetables, lots of gravy and decent roasties. All served by friendly young people. The roast beef was well cooked, probably brisket or topside, so not for anyone who demands rare or even pink! But it was tasty. The atmosphere was excellent, lots of families and friends chatting, eating and enjoying themselves. Interestingly we didn't see anyone on their phone. Too busy enjoying themselves and no photos on Instagram! We'll be taking our children and grandchildren there when they visit us.

From the lovely welcome to the end of our Sunday lunch was excellent, we enjoyed drinks looking out to the sea , called to the restaurant for lunch , the food was tasty plentifully, and perfectly cooked, the desserts were delicious, have eaten here before lunch time , always been good , 1st time Sunday lunch and it won’t be the last

It was the first visit for us, having been given a voucher for Christmas. We were very happy to have found this smashing hotel restaurant; the atmosphere, decor and pleasant reception by all the staff was heartwarming. While waiting for our table, we thoroughly enjoyed a warming mulled wine, sitting in a bay window overlooking the estuary. Although it was filthy weather on New Year’s Eve, we felt completely wrapped in warmth, the staff busy but attentive and the roast dinners we had were 5 star. Nothing was too much trouble, and the entire experience was wonderful, even to the staff wishing us a Happy New Year on the way out. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Food exceeded expectations - had a great family meal here. It took a little time but no one minds waiting for freshly cooked great food. The menu does them a disservice on a few things as the fish was fresh and hand battered there - it doesn't say that - big it up and it also justifies the cost more of around £17. Staff were friendly and soft drinks reasonably priced. Really enjoyed it

I had wanted a curry or a chilli but there was nothing similar on the menu, so for the first time I tried the Hungarian pork goulash. It was a delicious stew, served with perfectly cooked cabbage and fluffy mash. A real cwtch on a plate! My partner had the lasagne which I have to say looked a little small, and didn't quite fill the oven dish it was presented in. Nevertheless, it was delicious and came with well cooked chips so he didn't go hungry. We also ordered a side of onion rings which were very tasty. The beers were cold, the fire was warm, the service was good and the dog was able to join us too. Not much more we could ask for really! Thank you very much, we will be back. 😊

Delicious food, great staff, lovely food

Very poor service , inferior quality meals,and lack lustre menu which is overplayed.After having a number of very pleasant family celebrations in the past ,it is very sad not to feel at all inspired to visit the Flat rock again any time soon.

Didn't have food service very good can recommend espresso martini's. Good vibe.

Lovely location with spectacular sea views. Modern, clean, comfortable and pleasant restaurant and bar with a wide ranging menu. Staff were friendly and efficient despite an initial misunderstanding about the booking for our table. Food was on the pricey side (£17.95 for a lamb burger and chips) but beautifully cooked and presented. Reasonable range of drinks, though only one ale on tap.

Had two fantastic meals one on Saturday 30th September and Mondays 2nd October, the Welsh sirloin steak was amazing it melted in your mouth, please give the chef who was on our compliments. Will definitely be returning for more meals, the staff were so pleasant and made the whole experience a pleasure Thank you again

Came in for a nice evening drink with the family and the service was flat, the attitude was rocky. We felt like we were a bit of an inconvenience to the bar staff.

Busy when we visited but was able to accommodate us and the dogs. Food was plentiful and tasty. Service was friendless and efficient. View was out over the sea. Would have been nice to have water offered for the dogs.

Well I had high hopes when I looked at the reviews... How wrong could they be... In my case I took my wife there thinking she'll get a really nice posh meal at them prices.. bonus points I thought.... Unfortunately that was not the case. So I start with the Pros Pros The View is absolutely outstanding. The serving lady was happy enough. Parking was great. Plenty of space Cons No table service, Pay on every item each time. Dirty items, fluff & sticky stuff over salt & pepper shakers. Staff having breaks playing on there phones in there cleaning uniform with the customers. Not up to par food for price. My Experience. My wife's chicken was so unbelievably dryer, was like it had been microwaved multiple times. Her chips tho were good. Her drink had floating bits in it that was not ment to be there. My burger was ok and the fries were ok but my latte was like drinking coloured water. The prices for this food was unbelievable, a burger at £17.65 was mental. I've had better for £5 at weather spoons. I've had top £ burgers from an award winning pub 30mins away from here for £1.65 cheaper. I think the prices need to reflect the food and then it would maybe be ok. Would I have had a refund if I complained, who knows, didn't want the hassle, was supposed to be a nice day, so we left. Will I go back.............. Alot would have to change and that hygiene rating would have to be bold for me to see. But yes I would if things changed.

Loverly environment and great sea views. Food was nice and compared to other local establishments was a fair price, Definitely worth a visit for a meal and a drink.

My partner and I called in as we were in the area. My partner had a prawn baguette and I had a jacket potato, both came quickly and were thoroughly enjoyed, pleasant staff, will call again

We booked our table for 9 people a few days before. Lovely welcome we were shown to our table near the window. The waitress was lovely with the children. Although it was busy we were served in a reasonable time. We all agreed the food was delicious. We would certainly recommend it and return. Where else can you eat a meal and see Dolphins swimming past.

Visited for lunch after a session at the local spa. The service was great. Staff were friendly and efficient. Menu was varied and the food was tasty. Will return again.

Lovely views, good food and welcoming professional staff. Decent cocktail menu. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the view out of the window. Come around sunset to watch the geese flying past into the estuary. Only thing that lets it down, considering the upmarket exterior, reception and bar area is the dining furniture gives the impression of a functional mid-price business hotel breakfast room, rather than a nice cosy restaurant

Lots of good things about the flat rock, the views are absolutely stunning, great place to grab a pint, with looks overlooking the Teifi estuary. The food was hit and miss. Chicken Cordon Bleu was superb, really an amazing dish. The burger, as others have noted was a real disappointment, bland and cheap taste, lacking garnish. The Dessert, roulade, was okay, but nothing special. The staff were really helpful and friendly, but service was a tad slow. Overall it was a good experience, but the food was overpriced for what it was.

Last minute reservation made on a lovely warm evening. The place was very busy but that did not reflect on the service. Stunning views of the coast to watch the sun go down. Good warm, nicely presented and tasty. Will return soon.

Visited twice while on holiday. Great Sunday lunch and later their dinner menu. All food was excellent and large portions. Service was fantastic with all staff members really friendly and happy to help. Dog friendly in the conservatory (book first) or on the terrace. They seem to always be busy so book to avoid disappointment. Great views across to Poppit Sands.

Nice bar and big seperate dining area. The menu is limited but the food is decent. We had lasagne but it was not as good as it had been in past years I visited.It came with a small tired salad. The views are magnificent!! Staff are lovely

Based on good reviews we booked here for a Sunday night as not many others places in the area open for dinner. Had a really nice meal- kids portion was huge and he loved it. Adult meals were equally nice- both chose of the specials and again, good sized portions, tasty food and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and helpful. Few venues match the position of Flat Rock Bistro at The Gwbert Hotel to enjoy standard menu dining as the sun sets over Cardigan Bay at the mouth of the River Teifi. The spectacle is equally visible from indoors or those rarer occasions when the weather is kind and seating on the terrace becomes an option. Booking is advisable although not essential, and when we ate on a Sunday evening staff worked hard to ensure a table was found for the many occasional diners presenting. The menu is somewhat simple, and our choices of gammon and cod were well cooked and tasty, a few special dishes were on offer to those seeking a more international choice. Great place with amazing views and really lovely food had the beer battered cod and chips with mushy peas batter was lovely and crisp and the fish cooked just right all at a good price. The staff were very friendly also.

Lovely place. Such a pleasant atmosphere, and gorgeous location overlooking Poppit Sands beach. The food was amazing, especially the mussels. Although we arrived quite late for lunch and the kitchen was about to close, so we couldn’t savour the rest of the menu. Parking might be an issue in the high season.

Not much to say other than I ordered a Panna cotta and received a lemon tart and was told I was wrong when questioned.

I've had a couple of meals here over the years. The quality is almost as good as it's sister restaurant at The Cliff Hotel. Definately worth a visit and meal. Great views over the mouth of the Teifi too.

We were recommended The Gwbert restaurant so went along with friends for the Christmas party menu, it was honestly one of the best meals we have ever had,beautifully home cooked and obviously using fresh ingredients and quality meat,everything about it was perfect.The staff were wonderful...

Had midweek lunch here Good food, and range of drinks. Main courses were £14.95, Sharps Doom Bar £4.40 a pint. Friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely be going there again.

Disappointing Sunday Dinner Venue nice. Paté starter was tasty but so small, the chutney pot was bigger than the spoonful of chutney. Beef was nice but unfortunately it stopped there, not much taste at all in the rest and no taste of cheese at all...

Fantastic food and what a view !!

Service was unbelievably slow. 1 hour for starter alone. Starters themselves were not too bad, but the main courses very poor. The previously lauded fish and chips were terrible. The batter was soggy, not cooked properly , and the fish was bland and dry. The chips were anaemic, pale, no where near cooked enough, and not crispy at all. A chicken dish served with bacon was again very dry, and the bacon itself, like cardboard. 1 and three quarter hours later, we finished, and complained accordingly. No reduction in the bill offered, just a free coffee or pudding..no thanks !!! Lovely venue, very poor service and food.

We waited nearly one hour to receive and sat our starter. The 4starters were OK. Nothing great, nothing bad. However, when we waited a further three quarters of an hour for our mains, thd quality diminished somewhat. All of us had a meal with chips,...

The staff were very friendly. We didn't have to wait long for our order, which were very tasty and the portions were very generous. Great value for money.

Nice food it's okay on the price had better n cheaper but had to try somewhere different Only giving three stars due to the fact we orderd pudding to one of the work colleagues and we waited n waited. The table next to us orderd pudding and it came withing 10min. But me and my mrs was still waiting for ours 30min later. We tried to get attention to see where our pudding was but they was not to be seen....so soon we sat up they came over do you want a bill. We said yes please...then she came over and it still had the pudding on the bill although we didn't have it. She took it off then we paid n left. Personally I wouldn't rush back there.

Lovely view from the terrace across Poppit Sands, perfect for watching the sunset. However, decor inside is very dated and would really like to see a local cask beer instead of doombar offered. Can’t comment on the food as only stopped for a quick drink

Took relatives here, fish was great. I had the seafood sharer as a main meal expected more seafood but on the whole good. It was very busy, we sat outside, service was good.

Great meal with friends on a very sunny evening overlooking the Teifi estuary and Cardigan Bay. Food is fresh and delicious, wide menu choices and specials each day too. Drinks on terrace beforehand and afterwards watching the sunset. Service friendly and efficient. will definitely return.

Great food, staff and location. Would have given 5 stars but even though impeccably clean the decor is dark and dated. Will definitely return, staff and food here are much better and has more choice than the neighbouring Cliff Hotel.

You know what time for the truth, went here with my brother back from new Zealand in May, service shocking, food shocking.
