Five Star Fish Bar in Cardiff

Brought my pie and chip home about half hour ago chips were tasteless the pie was inedible as it was dry, this was an old pie.

Love this chippy its consistently good. Cant go wrong with a good chippy tea. I would give a five but they dont take card payments.

I was fuming ..... another long queue, make your own mind up most people would walk out but I was staying

Gran pescado fresco, montañas de papas fritas, salsa curry de gran sabor [caliente], los miércoles tienen un especial de jubilados, 3, 50 para pescado y papas fritas, bacalao pequeño y papas pequeñas pero nunca he podido comerlo todo, ¡Hay que pedir una porción más pequeña de chips para ahorrar desperdicios! Y el personal es agradable y eficiente con un propietario que se preocupa! ¡Buena cosa!

I have been coming here for the past 5 years and I have never had a bad takeout the chips are to die for very recommended won't go any were else stafg always polite 😆👍

Compramos bacalao grande y papas fritas para compartir más guisantes blandos ayer. Era un día soleado, así que también la comida para comer en un banco cubierto de hierba en Hailey Park, Llandaff North. Las papas estaban deliciosas y el bacalao tenía un sabor fresco, tal vez un poco graso, pero con una masa crujiente.

Fish and chips always perfect. Staff very helpful. Customers come from all over Cardif to get their meal. Always clean.

I use this fish and chip shop regularly and I have never had a bad meal and staff are always smiling and makes me feel welcome

Mi compañero y yo teníamos un pescado maltratado, una salchicha, papas fritas y salsa de curry de aquí. La comida era buena y las patatas fritas y el pescado estaban recién hechas frente a nosotros, que era agradable! La comida fue buena relación calidad-precio para la cantidad de comida que teníamos! Compartimos una pequeña bolsa de papas fritas y aún nos quedaban algunas.Aunque entiendo totalmente que es difícil deshuesar un pez y sacar todos los huesos pequeños, había unos huesos bastante grandes en uno de los extremos del bacalao que se deben haber pasado por alto. Dicho esto, la comida era muy agradable y tendría otra comida desde aquí.

Rude management. Lack of people skills. Food average, certainly not the “best around”. Far better establishments in the local area.

We have ofcourse tried all the fish and chip shops near our home and this is our favourite. Really good fish, generous portions of chips and much else besides.

Good value, big portions and happy staff, all pretty good. Better than most around North Cardiff. Fish usually cooked fresh on demand.

Usually my reviews are very long winded so I will keep this one very short and sweet. This is by far the BEST CHIP SHOP in Cardiff! Friendly and welcoming staff, great service and (in my opinion the most important factor) an absolutely immaculate food serving area!

Maybe even best in Cardiff. Chips perfectly cooked, not too firm not too soft. Big portions too. Fish freshly cooked to order & friendly, efficient staff. Go there!

I wouldn't go anywhere else. They have the best food great staff just down the road from me too so that's fab.

Moved away from the UK now and every time I come home, I get a five star! Large fish and chips - sorted! Been coming here for over fifteen years!

I have been a customer for eight years. Went there for a kebab last night when I was queing a woman came in and gave her order for a kebab directly to the staff and got served before everyone else. The only signs there say to order fish when you arrive.I had a 15 minute wait after the lady had been served. I will never go there again, what's the point in a Que , when people are allowed to jump in!

After being recommended this chippie was trialed! Freshly cooked, tasty food. Limited options for vegetarians - cheese and onion pasty with chips (which was delicious) but the lack of any other choice could mean I revert back to the usual chippie. Please consider expanding your range!!! Delicious.

We get takeaway fish and chips when the whole family come round, it's quick and easy. Although there is always a queue at Five Star (which I see as a very good thing!), there is never a long wait. Food is reasonably priced, well presented, delicious and always hot. Everything you could want from your local fish and chip bar. We have had food from here 4 or 5 times in the past year and have never been disappointed.

This place has been here for decades. The queues when it opens should tell you it has a good reputation. The through-put is quick though. Their cod is lovely, cooked well and flakes beautifully. Traditional chippy.

Ordered fish and chips. To find still had skin on the fish why can't a place that is so highly spoken of remove the skin it's not nice to have to start bisected your food before you have to eat it come on guys this is a simple thing to do before cooking it

My partner and I decided to have a bit of a treat on Monday night, fish and chips for a change. We ordered and although it took a little while, the fish was cooked fresh to order so we didn't mind at all.Once home, the food was still lovely and hot. There were plenty of chips in each portion and a decent sized fish. The batter was cooked perfectly and really tasty, the only disappointing thing I would have to say about it is that I had around ten bones in mine. Not great and slightly annoying.The curry sauce was perfect and it was all such a great price around £13.

The food is top notch, easily the best in the area. The staff are courteous, helpful and enthusiastic. This is where I go for my Friday chips (and sometimes, the cheeky midweek number as well!)

We've used this chippy every week or two for the last few years, and it's probably the best in Cardiff, if not Wales, if not the UK... let's be realistic: it's easily the best in the world and anybody who disagrees just doesn't know what they're talking about. I've eaten the finest chips all over, and there's really nothing to compare with Llandaf North's finest. Staff are great: ears always tuned to the regular customer's familiar cry of "tail, please" as they walk in the door. And before you know it, you're satisfied and blated once again, albeit at the expense of the world's depleted and overfished oceans and the expertise of the native South Americans whose centuries of breeding and crossbreeding potatoes led to the delicacy we currently enjoy in Britain without giving a second thought to their plight.

Ordering fish on arrival so you be assured your fish is fresh, not only that everything tastes fresh and cooked to perfection, Top Gun cannot compete, certainly the place to go, generous servings at good prices.

I can't say i'm going to make the Five Star owners that much money but there small tray of chips and hot curry sauce can't be faulted. At £2 it's good value. The Hot Curry Sauce has got a nice kick to it and the chips are as always freshly cooked (just like there fish). The Five Star have got an extensive menu and are to be recommended.

Can't fault this place. Chips are always amazing. Fish is very tastie but tyey won't consider other fish types (apart from cod) that are more sustainable. How about pollock or hake? Very similar to cod.Chicken breast is very tastie as it's studded with garlic.Visit this place as you won't be disappointed!

This chip shop is the best around my local area. I've never had anything bad from here. Good price, fab quality & lots for your money! A normal size bag of chips here would be a large elsewhere (at a push) Very clean shop & friendly staff :)

This is probably the best fish and chip shop around cardiff. portions are good and value is okay. I Have tried many others but they aren't as enjoyable and fresh and five*! however, i would say that it still isn't amazing, but the best of out an average choice of fish and chip shops.
