Five Pointed Star in Tonbridge and Malling

Instantly greated with a warm welcome, friendliness and super service! The gentleman behind the bar (who I'd hope to say is the landlord?) Was a pure gentleman, made us feel at ease and couldn't be more friendly! Me and a friend visited yesterday, not knowing where we could do with 2 small children and have room for pushchairs. We anticipated this pub thinking we would be looked down on walking in with prams but we had the most wonderful greating and throughout service, this particular was brilliant! Provided us with highchairs, came to us to serve and chatted with us. 1000% will return (without the babies so we can enjoy wine!) Wonderful place, and vert impressed so thank you! :)

After a 5 mile walk around West Malling & Offham with friends what better way to finish with a fabulous Sunday Roast & more. The pub was cosy & warm & the staff all friendly & welcoming. Tasty, hot food....what's not to love

The staff here are the MOST hospitable you are ever likely to find in a pub. So friendly and proactive. The drinks and good are very good. There's so much outdoor space, loads of heaters, sports inside and out. A roaring fire in the winter! Love it

Attended the Five Pointed Star with two friends for a meal at 7.30pm on a Monday evening in December. The table had been booked 10days in advance. On arrival we were advised that 6 items were off the menu, with a small menu this left approx 10mains to choose from. When ordering drinks unfortunately 5 of the white wine options were unavailable. We were advised that it was Christmas so they often go out of stock after a weekend. We ordered our mains, one guest requested to substitute mash for chips. The food arrived promptly & was delicious but it came with mash rather than chips requested. This was promptly rectified. We were then offered more drinks at 8.45pm, to which we asked for the pudding menu. We were then advised that the kitchen had closed 15minutes earlier with no pre warning. On making payment they had included the service charge on the bill! On paying the first person was advised that her card had been declined twice. To which it was actually the signal to the machine, as when we went to pay it went through straight away. All in all, food was lovely when we could get it but the service & the choice of food/drink was extremely poor & we most definitely won’t be returning again.

It was a good experience. However, as it was Thursday evening, I didn't get a real atmosphere, as probably it is better weekends

Some two months ago i came to 5PS with my son and ate a Chicken Shwarma , which was absolutely delicious, so i was looking forward to experiencing it again this time. However, on arrival, i was informed that the menu had changed and the Shwarma was no longer available. So, after some deliberation chose the (Homemade) Chicken Balti pie. Needless to say, when it arrived, it was a huge disappoinment - pastry was soggy (obviously cooked in microwave), and the filling was just a mush, whilst playing the spot the chicken game. Advised the waitress of my disappointment, and advised that i get better Chicken pies from LIDL - considering the price of it i was expecting far better.

The roast here is absolutely delicious!! I’ve had it loads of times on busy, and quiet weekends and it’s always top tier. They have food for kids too. There are two open fires (I think) and a lovely warm atmosphere. The people inside are nice and welcoming and all the staff are all nice. There’s an outdoor seating area which is covered by a tent which is perfect. Dogs are also allowed here which is good. There’s parking directly outside the pub, and a massive carpark less than a minute walk away too. Love it here!

Always a great night. Properly run, plenty of friendly staff. 10/10. Not to mention…. Dog friendly!

Great vibe with a large selection of drinks and food. Sport is on in the evenings and the locals are friendly and accommodating. Perfect for a Friday or Saturday night out.

This place never fails to disappoint. Came here a few weeks back with friends from work, today I was with some other friends. From the friendly and brilliant helpful staff, to the food and atmosphere. It really is the all round place to be. I had the Sunday roast today, was absolutely lovely. If you’re with friends, as a couple or a family with young children, everyone just blends in effortlessly. Would highly recommend and of course, I’ll be back again very soon.

Loved it. From the front, you would never believe this pub. Massive back garden, huge covered area with two large screen TVs . Another covered area plus tons of seating in the uncovered garden area. There is an outside bar and plenty of staff around to look after you. Food is available and prices are fair for the area. It has a nice ambience, lively music playing in the back ground, nice crowd, definitely a place you could bring your kids or your granny. Plenty of younger people there, having a good time but being respectful. Inside the pub is oldy worldy but has a charm. As the day was a pleasant one, most people were enjoying the autumn sunshine. First visit here but will return. Staff were friendly, food came up in good time and was good quality.

RESPONSE TO MANAGEMENT COMMENT - Thank you for taking the time to respond. Tbh I didn't want to get into the nitty gritty of it all because it felt petty to write it all out when the main reason we left WAS due to RUDE CHEF but going by your response it now comes as no surprise as to why he felt so comfortable being so rude. Your response is totally ignorant to the details but I've got the time this morning so you can have them. 'You were told we needed to pre-order a week before' - Not entirely true. 08/08/23 at 20:30 I requested the booking for 13th 09/08/23 at 11:34 you emailed me, your email states 'we will require a pre order for the food, or at least an indication as to whether you are looking to have roast dinners or other food'. I called, said we were all having roasts. I asked about a vegan option for the roast because there was 1 in our party. Correct, you didn't have the full details but you, at least, got the 'indication' we were all having roasts that you requested 4 days before our booking. My call back was fairly soon after receiving the email because I can see from messages to my family re the pre order items which was on 09/08/23 at 12:13 I say to the vegan 'they apologised & said they're not the best when it comes to vegan options however they can make the falafel burger vegan, they have vegan nuggets, they also said if you wanted a roast they would be pleased to give extra veg & potatoes, gravy is vegan, Yorkshires are not but said if we brought some in they would be happy to cook for us'. 'if you weren’t happy with the vegan options we would have happily made you something else from scratch' - I waited on the call while the member of staff spoke to the kitchen. There certainly was no offer of this! This would have been amazing. 13/08/23 I did call to confirm everything that morning because as with most large bookings, you worry last minute. When I called I was told they didn't receive our pre-order. I asked what they could do & they confirmed x amount of beefs, no chicken, mixed were okay etc. It was here I asked if it would be okay to bring the vegan sausages, 'yes bring them in we will see what we can do'. They WERE very accommodating, there was no issues. SIDENOTE: This was a complete first for me, I would never normally take food to restaurant & ask them to cook it especially without asking beforehand. So yes I agree it was a bit 'ridiculous' however no 'demands' were made & would have totally understood if they said no. We arrive, taken to a very cosy very authentic room, we were all pleased to be there, ordered our drinks. waiting for a few others to join and ordered some starters. I handed the sausages to the waiter, he didn't seem surprised, annoyed or anything. He came back a while after looking nervous, he was extremely apologetic and said that the chef is refusing to cook them and that the chef called the owner who has stood by the chef not cooking them. Our response 'Oh don't worry, it's fine! Meatless roast would be just fine'. I was told on the call in the morning there would be x amount of beefs, by the time we come to order we were told 'sorry there's only 2 beefs left'. No problem, we switched to Fish N Chips - 'sorry we don't have Fish n Chips', (what pub doesn't have a staple like Fish n Chips) but we still opted for other options that were available. We couldn't have been more cooperative, so your comment 'being rude and uncooperative made it very stressful for our staff' is total utter BS! It was your chef who could be heard shouting and swearing (about the fact we ordered a roast with no meat might I add). It was at that point we decided this wasn't the place for us. My original review was fair, I gave 3 stars for service, 1 for atmosphere (it's not everyday you feel so unwelcome that you feel you have to leave) and I didn't rate the food because we didn't try it. For anyone reading this far, you can check all reviews I leave, 80% are positive. The only people who need to feel embarrassed is you and the chef but you won't.

Just popped in for a drink and was a great little pub.

Great service, great quality food especially the house sauce. Small criticism would be the cblt sandwich was requested without tomato and they forgot and too much lettuce and needed more chicken but that's being picky. Would definitely return.

Great little pub. The truffle burger is unbelievable. I never had it before, but I will deffo get it again. The staff is very polite and helpful. The family was very happy with the food. You will 100% enjoy the food here without a doubt.

There was literally zero waiting time at the bar despite it being packed to the brim with people. Door staff were polite and friendly. Over all a good night out. Thanks

Rude bar service. no please , no thank you, slap dash abrupt and plain rude. £50 spent on 2 rounds, won’t be going back , sad that the management employ such rude young bar staff. Instead of standing there trying to look glamorous and self important, give them sone training in basic manners.

Saturday evening 20;05.23. Ok if you enjoy being Served by a zombie. A young lady who served me (twice). Looked straight through me, she had no manners whatsoever, no please no thank you, slapped the drinks on the bar with liquid over spilling , nice wet sticky glasses ! I think she was far too over concerned with self beauty importance to be lowered into communicating with customers. I hate this pretentious behaviour, spent £50 on 2 rounds, and WILL NOT be returning. Be warned you plebs out there !! You’ll be treated with contempt !!

Really so expensive for drinks now, preferably on a number of trips there in a week. Pop over to tesco? wine by the glass in the pub ridiculously to high. Get a couple of bottles for less than a third of the price. I love the pub but come on not everybody got the money these day's. This post won't bring the prices down but just saying. I'm a manc.

Having been here for lunch in April we again booked a table having enjoyed our last experience. However today was an entirely different experience the food was disgusting 2 meals returned one having been rewarmed in the microwave one burnt to a crisp the waitress was rude surly and we felt like a nuisance being there this was such a disappointment as we believed we had found a central place to meet up with good food and service after our first visit will not return again or recommend. The manager did apologise and removed the cost of the offending meal from the bill. But still not satisfactory as the whole experience spoiled our enjoyment

Booked for Sunday roast had a selection of chicken, lamb, pork and beef , roast potatoes seasonal veg, Yorkshire pud stuffing and gravy …delicious would come again

Rude staff. Chatting together behind the bar, oblivious to waiting patrons. Told was my responsibility to get their attention in a quiet bar. Avoid.

Such a nice pub, will recommend to anyone and everyone. Went for dinner and had the most delicious chicken ever. If you go to the Five Pointed Start make sure you order the Chicken Gyro! Its superb and i am sure you wont be disappointed! Ah, and make sure you choose to seat outside. The garden is just amazing, perfect to enjoy the sun!

I traveled to the UK for business and we wanted to sit and watch a game when we ate dinner. I had the steak and it was excellent! It's served with homemade onion rings on top and those may have been the best I've ever had. To top it off they had a special for dessert. It was waffles with biscoff butter, bananas and ice cream. It might be the best dinner I've had in my life.

Went for lunch with work colleagues on a quiet Tuesday. The food was served in a prompt timescale and was both hot and tasty. Tried the Biscoff Burger as it was something I've never seen before and I enjoyed it. All in all a good time was had by us all and would definitely recommend.

Been twice for Christmas meals, food was excellent both times. Cosy pub although it can get a bit cramped if there's too many people in your party.

Staff were so friendly and accommodating!! Really interactive with the children in our group.. The food was perfect. Quick and no long wait even though everyone from our table of 9 had something different. The food was probably the best thing I have eaten this side of the year... and I can honestly say the best meal I've had since covid lock down!!! We live 2 hours away and was visiting family which is the only downside as we cannot return every day!!! Football was playing on all tellys but was still a quiet atmosphere which was enjoyable! The garden was beautiful with the teepees and Christmas trees!! Looks small from the road do not be fooled!! It has alot of seating available. The prices where completely fair and not expensive at all! 22 pound for a sirloin steak meal! the quality of food is higher then you'd think for the price. I would return if we could!! I urge you to visit!!! You will not regret!!

Arrived in the evening, I ordered truffle burger and my daughter had Lasagne, both were hot, very tasty, well presented. Great price compared to other pubs in the high street. We then both had the waffle and caramel chunk ice cream for pudding. So good! Bar staff were really helpful, attentive and friendly, made sure everything was OK. Thank you.

Nice large garden area for the warm evenings. Well lit. Quality of mixed drinks vary depending on who serves you. Didn't go inside or have food so can't comment on that. Prices average.

Can't say enough about the staff at this lively place.. lovely walk in venue with lights strewn across and a bar outside so quick and easy to order food and drinks! The staff serving in the bar and bringing our meals were polite ,helpful , and apologetic when one of our nine meals were missed.. they were straight on the case and all sorted in a professional manner! Thanks everyone one for a great 3hr lunch you have a great vibe going on there.. we will definitely be back,. Craig x

We came to West Malling for a wedding in a nearby village and were looking for somewhere nice to eat on the Friday night. How pleased we were that we found the five pointed star! It was like the tardis - a small cosy looking pub at the front, but walk through to the garden and you'll find a huge marquee style awning with tables and heaters. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. And the pies were not only tasty, they were proper pies - pastry all round, not a dish with puff pastry on top. It was a lovely atmosphere sitting out to eat and a wonderful way to spend the evening before the wedding. Highly recommend it for portion size, great quality and good value - plus the beer was pretty nice too!

First visit to The Five Pointed Star but I am sure it won't be my last. Very friendly staff offering a great service and supplying excellent food at a reasonable price. Parking not great but it is available within walking distance. GF & V options on the menu.

Really loved this place huge courtyard where you can enjoy your drinks and food. Food was incredible huge proportions me and my wife loved the roast dinner and felt it was great value for money . The only negative is we had a baby yet there were people smoking and I really did not like that was not family friendly. I know it's outdoors but they need to have a smoking area for patrons that way families with kids can enjoy the experience more.

I finished up at the farmhouse and saw everyone walking towards the five pointed star, thought id give it a go and we got served instantly by a young chap wearing glasses, which was a surprise as the place was so busy, then it turns out i can see him serving someone else as well as me! Got our drinks so quickly, wasnt expecting a pub to be this quick on service as we had slow service across the road, i watched them behind the bar for a bit and the young girl with brown hair and the young man with glasses have to be the quickest bar tenders ive seen in a while, the music was amazing, the atmosphere was even better. Will definitely be back again

Super helpful and friendly service with great food. We stumbled across this pub after having a terrible experience in the pub across the road (the Farm House). The Five pointed star has a huge garden with plenty of seating, an outside bar, so easy and quick to get served, lovely staff and the food was great.

First time at the 5-pointed star. As a vegetarian, I ordered the "beetroot burger", which I assumed (without asking) was a beetroot/bean type burger that I have had in the past. This veggie option at the 5 pointed star, however, was a simulated meat burger...

Lovely dinner. There is a picture on the wall, taken way back when, with my grandfather on it. He used to live next door. Very special to me. I was born in West Malling .

A fantastic pub lovely food lovely atmosphere and friendly staff ! Updated I've just been in for a mother's day meal with my family, it was very busy but the service was first class. The vegetarian options were great. I had the vegetarian roast dinner and it was delicious. Great portions, great atmosphere Job done ! #supportlocal

I love this pub. It’s always welcoming, has a great atmosphere and large outside space to eat and drink. They’ve now built a bar outside in the beer garden and it’s table service for drinks and food which in the day I’ve never had to wait long for either. The staff are always friendly and polite and the food is good.

Went on a Saturday night for a nightcap and the place was heaving. Served almost instantly. If the place wasn't so packed it would have been a nice pub.

Went for Sunday lunch, chicken burger that I had was quite nice, however friends who had the roast were not overly impressed. Nice atmosphere and setting and good selection of beers on tap.

Went for lunch with my partner, was reassured that Buddy our dog was welcome in all areas of the pub. The staff were polite and attentive from the start, food was great, and the cost of the meal was really good for what we had...
