Fisherman's Fish & Chip Shop in Conwy

We popped to Conwy on the way home from a day out on the coast as we usually go to a different fish and chip shop which was closed. Tried this one instead and we weren't disappointed- the breaded plaice was excellent and chips weren't greasy.

While others in Conwy were closed, this shop were doing great business. There was a long queue of people waiting for their fish & chips. The food was good if not outstanding.

I called at 7.15 and ordered 2xcod and chips and curry sauce.the cod and chips were the greasy I have ever experienced and the curry was weak and watery I understand they were busy and near closing time but that cannot be an excuse . Staff were very polite and hard working but for how long I don’t know if they keep serving food of this unacceptable quality

Partner and I went into Conway for fish and chips, ordered at the fishermans, if she had told me how long I would be waiting i wouldn't have bothered! Sat in the car to eat our food and after cutting into the fish it was just stodgy raw batter! It tasted like flour and water glue you make as a child!! I asked for " lots of vinegar" the chips were so bland we couldn't taste any salt or vinegar! We were parked near a row of wheelie bins.....That's where the food ended up! Never using them again and would not recommend to anyone else. Sorry!

Ate in. Hubby had haddock and I had lite bite cod and chips with xmas menu of battered cauliflower with cranberry sauce. Batter was so light and fish was lovely

If i was a fish i woulf like to spend my last days here. Fish was simply the best i have ever tasted, so tender , so tasty. Very well organised for covid safety. Place your order and wait outside at the hatch until its ready.

Great fish and chips. Batter tasted like pan cakes- yummy! One night it closed early because it had run out of chips- so we went the next night!!

Sat on the quayside and ate the classic "Cod and Chips". Modest portions, but that's so much preferable to the massive portions making up for poor quality. The battered fish was perfect. But perhaps even better, the chips were a delight: crispy golden outside, soft fluffy inside, and very tasty. The cooking oil was fresh and light, not detracting from the food. All in all, the best quality fish and chips I've had since stopping off in a back street fish and chip shop, also on a trip to North Wales circa 1985!

The staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. Good size portions, the fish was really nice, and plenty of chips. We will definitely call again when we are in the area.

Shared a fish and chips with my husband this evening after a stroll around Conwy. Ate it in the carpark with the dogs in the boot of the car...soo nice, we'll be back :)

Avoid!!!!!!!! Child size portions at tourist prices. Very disappointed with this chip shop. I paid 2 pounds for chips and 1.55 for a fishcake. When they gave me my order it was in a cardboard closed tray and I took it away. As I was walking away I noticed that it felt very light so I opened the container and there must have been 20 chips max for the portion size of chips. I went back to the serving hatch and told the girl that the portion size is very small for 2 pounds. She said it was because it was in a large container it looked small! She got the tatoo plastered manager to come and explain. Instead of the manager simply saying sorry and giving a few extra chips, he went out of his way to demonstrate the size of a regular chips by serving chips in a standard container for me to compare with what I had been given. I was stunned at how stupid he was. What he showed me was also very small for 2 pounds. I said to him that I am not arguing with him and could I have my money back. He then snatched the order very aggressively out of hands and put it straight in the bin. He then gave me 3 pounds 55 pence back. The place is a joke. I will never go there again. There are many homeless people in the area who go hungry and this fool did that with that food. I then went around the corner and up the street and walked past archways at the far end of Conwy entrance and there must have been 20 plus people in the que waiting to go inside. I can see why. The Fisherman's Chip Shop seems to be a tourist trap. If you want to pay a lot of money for fish and chips and still be hungry after it then this is your place. Avoid!!!!!!!!

I’m not sure I’ve ever rated a fish and chips shop on TripAdvisor before but this was fish and chips at its best. The cod was very nice and the batter was lighter than expected. I’m not even a massive chip fan but having tried their chips earlier in the day I was so impressed we returned for two cod and chip meals. Very tasty!!

Worthy 5 Stars unfortunately eating in isn’t possible at the moment due to COVID-19 however the one way purchase system is safe , sensible but the food is excellent I had Fish and Chips and my wife had fish cake and chips both excellent ! Not greasy , freshly cooked and tasted really fresh superb !

We enjoyed really good haddock, freshly cooked, with chips and mushy peas. Portions sizes very generous. Much enjoyed!

I can expect to pay more for fish with it being so fresh but the piddly portion of chips isnt right. I ordered a large to share but there was hardly any there. I had to check with them it was a large. Wont go again. Hate to see places praying on tourists.

Called for fish and chips, after reading the good reports! Was glad we did, absolutely delicious, best we have tasted for years! Well worth a visit! mmmmmmmm

As title. Never had a bad bag of chips (or fish!) from Fishermans. Good value for money, love the hatchway around the back. Watch out for seagulls.

Ordered a large chips with lots of S&V. My wife bought me a hot perk pie from the baker's opposite (delicious!) We ate them down on the quayside with a seagull eyeing us lasciviously. It all looked and tasted very good. Still have not got up the nerve to eat in a restaurant again. But when you can eat hot pork pie and chips looking out at the boats on the estuary and all for under £5...who cares.

The best for consistently excellent fish and chips,service and cleanliness. Not to be missed !!. Reasonably priced for the standard of food,choice and pleasant staff

Great chippy with restaurant or takeaway. We had to wait around 5 minutes for a table (so pretty popular place) but it was worth it. I had the haddock special (haddock, chips, mushy peas and a slice of bread and butter). The batter on the fish was so crispy and tasty. Couldn't fault the food or the service. Great location right near the sea front too. Highly recommend.

£8.75 for a big plate of cod, chips, mushy peas and bread. Delicious and a bargain. Lovely staff as well.

We had the large haddock with chips and mushy peas and it was very good. Normally go to the chip shop on the opposite corner but it was shut so decided to risk this one. We were not disappointed as the fish and chips were just as good.

Fantastic lunch, perfect service and we all left happy and contented. Would highly recommend and can’t understand why the Galleon is closed this time of year, just uses the summer trade.

We had cod and chips in the restaurant, service was good and quick! The food came and the fish looked a good portion, but it was mainly batter and the fish was tasteless and very greasy!

I ordered the cod , chips and mushy peas,this was not my first visit although the previous was 6 months ago !The cod was sliced so thin too much batter and not much fish !! Won’t be returning as others also had the same issue!

We didn't actually get to eat here as when we mentioned that our daughter had a hazelnut allergy they told us that none of their food was suitable as they cook everything in the same oil. So if you have any allergies or intolerances I would avoid this place. Luckily we found another fish and chip shop that was much more accommodating and helpful.

Realised later that this Fish and Chip Cafe also did Takeaway at a Quayside entrance close to the Riverboat Trips stand. Looked very busy when we first entered. People queuing inside for Table seating. Also long que for Takeaway as well so seemed to be a Good choice. Waited to be seated about 10 minutes. Friendly, helpful staff took our Order further wait 10minutes approximately. Food arrived my partner and I had ordered Cod and Chips with Curry sauce. Couldn’t fault the food. Freshly cooked Batter so light and crispy Mmmmm Curry sauce really nice to. Very busy here but worth the wait. Highly recommend

Ate here after reading the Tripadvisor rating - honestly thought we had come to the wrong place. The fish and the chips were extremely greasy. In fact, the cod was so thin it had only got one side!!!

Cod, chips and mushy peas with nice cup of tea, what could be better. Friendly polite service here at the Fisherman's too. This was most certainly the best fish and chips we have had in a long, long time. Many thanks, we are not tourists so will be back, often!

I booked for a group of 30 runners post Conwy Half Marathon. Cris the owner had been very helpful with the booking, we arrived en mass and were looked after brilliantly by Helen and the staff.The seating up stairs was comfy and great for our group. Food was perfect, clean plates all round. The fish and chips were first class, everyone was catered for and the staff were very friendly. Not an easy ask to sort out 30 hungry runners but they did it with a smile and i am looking forward to returning. Thank you Cris and team from

Back in June I was relaxing at the Liverpool Arms looking out across the picturesque estuary, when Lady G returned from a walk with her sister carrying a cone of the finest chips. Ultimately she went and got a further two cones and we decided then that our next visit to Conwy would include a visit to the eatery which, last week, was what we did.

Called lunchtime today after reading past reviews of this take away.

Fish and Chips is a Friday tradition in our home and today was no different. This was a fantastic find! We ordered the special, which was fish and chips, bread and butter and a cuppa! We added a side of gravy and it was fabulous. A good sized portion, and the batter on the fish was lovely and light.

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips, second to non! Our friends had Cod and we had the Haddock, they were substantial, but if you wanted you could go large on your fish, going off what we had the go large option must have been massive!!

Overall we have been visiting the Fisherman's for years, but this was our first visit in over a 12 months and it's great to see that they are still serving really good fish and chips.

We both had Cod and Chips and the Cod was cooked to order as it was approx 3pm obviously out of Busy/ frying times! and while it should have been really good we both found it to be very greasy , Perhaps we have been spoilt by our local Parkgate chippy whose F and Cs are fantastic

Excellent fish tea. Big mistake to choose the large haddock but that wax our fault. Quality of food was great but as we had paid for it we ate it all.

Best fish and chips Ive ever had. Light crispy batter and fresh, thick cod. Well worth a visit. Large meal too, only needed the standard size fish. Girl serving a bit miserable, no smiles amd looked totally fed up but the lovely food was worth it.

Really chuffed to come across this gem. Wind sheltered back yard with tables to eat your crispy fish n chips. Doggy friendly. Good sized portions that aren’t too large. Very tasty

saw the sign on the harbour, had battered sausage and chips, sausage barley covered with batter, chips are not the best i have had, service from the small service hatch was not the quickest. if in Conwy again will eat here again

We like river, harbour and here we were at the Quay in Conwy. We liked to walk along the Town Walls. Then, we saw this shop. We went inside and decided to buy something to eat for lunch. We went there and the weather was so nice, sunny with many people at the Quay. We bought 2 cups of tea, cooked shrimps, mussels, squids. We went back to buy some more because it was so tasty!

On a day out with my Partner and our dog Ruby we had had a great time at Abergele Beach and Llandudno West Shore Beach . Our dog Ruby loves the water and we always visit these two places before venturing to Conwy and our favourite Fish and Chip Shop.. The Fisherman's. As the weather had turned a little cold we decided to eat in the Cafe as long as we could park the car opposite the Chippy. Our luck was in so leaving Ruby asleep in the car we sat in the cafe for our meal.

unfortunately they dont do gluten free fish and chips anymore but the haddock i had was so fresh i swear it was still swimming its a long time since i have tasted fish so fresh and their chips were gorgeous golden brown cooked to perfection Very busy shop had to wait around 15 mins but well worth it, they had the facilities to sit in if you wanted as well. Not cheap but you get what you pay for here so well worth paying that bit extra x

You can’t beat a trip to Conwy harbour to catch the 🦀. Great chip shop supper. Great little court yard for chips with your dog. Wonderful week in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, nearly home time 😢

Reasonably priced & meals were very nice. Fish cooked well and was tasty. Chips were good although personally a bit greasy for me. Chicken nuggets for kids were all eaten & therefore passed approval. So would recommend here. Thanks.

Wanted fish and chips to eat sitting in the harbour. We arrived close to closing time. Haddock was cooked to order for us, both batter and chips were crunchy and delicious. A big thumbs up!

Prompt service and the food was just delicious. We made a great choice for our seaside fish and chip meal. Keep up the great work.

Fish and chips was nice - freshly made to the order - portions very small comparing to my local fish and chip in NOTTINGHAM This was tiny - for £8.45 you expect something bigger - not enough chips , fish rather small then large - it was nice I’m not saying it wasn’t but I had better fish and chips in places that are not over crowded by tourist and restaurants can put prices up and make smaller portions.

We enjoyed lovely fish and chips here, we sat on the stools downstairs, as restaurant was constantly busy, we were served straight away and food was a short 10 min or so wait. Fish and chips were excellent as was the service and we would definitely eat there again.

Put simply, it was fantastic food, generous portion, it was very busy but weren’t kept waiting. Can’t recommend here enough

Sitting on the quayside I saw loads of people with chips and wondered where they came from as they did look good. Realised there was an entry opposite leading to a servery at the rear of a chip shop. There was a queue and I was told I would have to wait about 10 minutes - that was no problem and I actually got my chips within 5 minutes. Sitting on a harbour wall, in the sun (fending off the seagulls) with a portion of excellent chips - what's not to like??

We wandered up the signed alley to find a little counter and a seating area, big enough for a couple of families. We rang the bell and were served promptly, now sitting outside but away from swooping seagulls is a bonus, we ordered a range of meals and was reasonably priced, everyone enjoyed the freshly made food and there was no rush to move on from seating area. The service was friendly and the staff were happy to make things right. Would highly recommend the Cod and Chips

Visited tonight at 7.30pm. Ordered takeout cod and chips. After a short wait the food was put in a polystyrene box by the server who was polite.

There are two entrances, one from the road and one to the counter at the back from the quay. Very good portion sizes and lovely chips and gravy. Grab some and eat on the quay

Reasonably priced, large portions of mediocre food. Fish was fresh but batter was bland, burger was a dry hockey puck, chips plentiful but mushy. Servers were friendly and attentive. If you're hungry, this place will fill you up but there's nothing memorable about it. And yes, it's one of several places in Conwy with a sign out front that tells you it's the best fish and chips you'll probably ever have in North Wales. A local tipped us off to a better place a couple of blocks away, which seemed to get more locals and fewer tourists.

Had large haddock and chips £11.95. Was a big portion so happy with value for money. Large Diet Coke (330ml?) for £1.60. The batter remained crispy but the fish was only ok. Plenty of chips which I appreciate. Staff friendly. Would eat here again but it’s not a must-do.

We stopped in in the evening when many of the competing restaurants had closed. The food was excellent but we couldn't eat in the dining room because it was already closed so we sat at the counter. My boyfriend had the Cod and I had the scampi. Both were great.

This chippy serves tasty chips peas and gravy. I recommend buying it, then heading to the seafront to enjoy the view whilst eating.

We ate here by total accident, always eat at the Galleon but at 4pm on a Friday afternoon it had closed!!! Did us a favour really as the chips we had at the fisherman’s were just perfect, best we have had for a while. We even thought about going back for seconds. Highly recommend

We ate here on a recommendation, but were so disappointed. It was all so bland, the fish was dry and the chips were unpleasant. And the mushy peas were like a thick paste! Perhaps it was an off day, as the other reviews are good!?

Came here after a long day of walking around Llandundo and Conwy. It was one of the rare restaurants open in Conwy at 7 pm, so I was very happy when I got the table. I got fish and chips meal that comes with mushy peas. It was very good, fish was fresh and tasty, chips crispy and nice. The staff was lovely and very attentive.

Bought here many times after a day out in Snowdonia. Good fresh food,well cooked and presented at reasonable prices. Go and enjoy by the harbour or 10 minute drive to Llandudno front.

Having been in Wales for 2 weeks one of my friends was desperate to get a proper fish supper. He had tried the cod a few times but was desperate for his Haddock and chips. We came across the fisherman’s chippy. It didn’t disappoint he really enjoyed it. Freshly cooked and enough chips for 2 people. Good value for money and a lovely pot to tea also. My husband took a milk shake but was disappointed as it didn’t live up to the description on the menu. It was just made with the usual syrup and milk.

We only buy fish and chips from here as anywhere else is a huge disappointment. We live in Derbyshire and visit Conwy several times a month and always make a point of calling in. Clean premises and great staff too!

Whenever I pass through Conwy these days I find it nearly impossible not to sit by the keyside close to the castle and view this idyllic place with it's lobster pots and fishing gear stowed ready for the next high tide by the local fishing crews.

We'd heard this was a good chippie, so made a point of getting cod and chips takeaway for all the family for dinner while we were staying in Conwy - and were delighted we did! Fresh fish, crisp batter, great chips, terrific value - everything spot on! (They also let us order ahead on the phone and do a drive-by pick up, which was very kind indeed.)

The fish was as fresh as they claim it is served in a crunchy crisp coating.The portions were good .The service was very good and they told everyone to be careful as it was hot just cooked food. The prices were fair. I was told to visit this shop by several very happy customers and a lot of us ate sat on the harbour wall.

Portions and state of food absolutely terrible. Service is poor. Charged for pots of gravy when just a drizzle out over the chips and no butter on dry crusty roll that was supposed to be a chip barm.

So we’ve been coming to Conway for the last four years and I really thought we’d tried all the fish and chip shops, alas to my dismay and horror, we had yet to discover Fisherman’s Fish and Chip Shop!!!

The fish was okay, but it was somewhat thin and skimpy, especially in relation to the copious batter. The optional sweet potato chips were fine, but not memorable. The mushy peas were good -- better than the rest of the meal. Perhaps it was an off day, but neither I nor my friend felt that this was worth the visit. We have had much better fish and chips elsewhere.

Only chose this place as everywhere else was closed and so glad we did. Great value for money and the fish and chips were fantastic. A must visit to eat in conwy. The staff where very pleasant too

Quick, friendly service. Chips were plentiful and delicious. 2 large portions fed 2 adults and 3 hungry children. We took them away and ate on the Quay but there were tables available inside. Would definitely eat there again when we are next in the area.

Went in for tea on our last night in Conwy. Decent regular portion size (although I opted for the large haddock). Batter was light, crispy and grease free. chips on the whole were good but too many small overcooked rock hard chips that were uneatable. Overall value was reasonable and on a par with other fish n chip shops in Conwy. Service was ok given that it was tea time.

I had haddock and chips, my wife had fish cake and chips. Wasn’t sure if I should have regular size fish or the large and plumped for the regular. Just as well as it was more than enough for me. We both found the food delicious and hot and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The fish was so fresh I had to slap its face!

Had a take out meal had to give my husband half as such small portions ,sausage hard 😕 only nice thing about it was the gravy .

A very busy day (Easter Weekend) for takeaway fish and chips, so we had to wait a few moments for our order - 2 x medium fish and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. We went and ate ours on the sea wall round the back (pleasantly surprised by the lack of seagull activity!) All very nice though my fish had obviously been on a diet - a little on the small side! But still a good amount, and nice firm flakey fish, and non-greasey batter.

At the end of a family day out in North Wales we chose this restaurant for fish and chips. We weren't disappointed. The service was quick and friendly and the meal was good value for money. The fish was so fresh and the batter so light. We would certainly go back when next in Conway, and I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who enjoys seaside fish and chips.

Bit of a wait on the food. Once it arrived it was nice but not the best. Very very expensive so I’ll swerve it next time. My advice is only go there if it’s the last chippy on earth. Review your prices and lower the greed
