Fish Face in Hartlepool

Called in here on when passing and was so pleased that we did. Fantastic service (and pleasant staff) and beautiful food. Highly recommended.

Fish Face is our favourite local chippy but today has certainly changed that. Understandable we came 40minutes before closing but we were made to feel rushed as staff stood and hung around our table, as well as cleaning the floors with what must have been a full bottle of bleach. I understand end of day in restaurant having worked in food and retail however to do so while customers are still eating is not okay, especially since there was a toddler present who was distressed at the smell. The staff had binned our order and so our food arrived 5 minutes before closing, I only know this as staff were speaking out in the open front of house area that our order hadn’t gone through. To make it worse we were overcharged significantly by £7, which is a lot considering. This used to be our favourite place and I’m sad that we will no longer be able to come for our usual chippy tea due to the disgraceful and unprofessional behaviour in the restaurant today.

updated review.. prices much increased since last visit and portion sizes also reduced, I think its what's called geed-flation and shrink-flation. Dont mind either as long as not excessive but NOT BOTH!!!

We are regular visitors due to fish & chips hard to beat in a nice welcoming restaurant. We had both the regular cod and exceptional succulent sole, beautifully cooked with light crispy batter. The chips were also just right. The only downside is they still do not have zero beer which we always enjoy at almost every other restaurants now. Perfect otherwise.

Theres only one place to go if you want the best fish and chips. The fish was nice and thick and cooked to perfection, the chips were of a good size too and also cooked to perfection Fantastic batter on the fish. I can't recommend this restaurant enough and finally the staff were brilliant and really friendly. 5 stars + from me.

Portion Size & Anaemic Chips, £12.95 for large cod and chips, usual price, but the portion size was more like a regular. The chips were Anaemic, and we hate those mini fryer baskets, 12 chips! Wish we had gone to our regular Seaton Carew chippy, but thought it would be nice to sit in. Our local resteraunt does large portion with bread and butter and pot of tea for the same price with peas too! Staff very nice and resteraunt nice, but they need to look at the competition for value for money,

(collection for tea at home) Batter was burnt so the fish was dry and shrunken. Chips were undercooked and white with half the carton looking like toenails and a portion fit for a 2 year old child. Gravy was like engine oil. Went in the bin and will never go back.

We were greeted politely and shown to our table. We ordered two pensioner specials, cod and chips with tea bread and butter for £8.45 each which I thought was very reasonable. The fish and chips were cooked to perfection and the quantity exceeded what we expected. There was enough tea for two cups each. Highly recommended.

Have been here 40 plus times and have always been delighted..however 5pm on a Wednesday appears not to be the best time to come. Previously we gave either ordered online or joined the queue, tonight there wasnt a queue , and what we got was £20 worth of awful, which is so disappointing . I think the moral of the story is to come when the food isn't sat between customers, ie when there are plenty people about. Will likely give it one more shot and hope for normal service to be resumed. If the owners read this, punters would rather wait for fresh cooked food when you aren't busy than get served rubbish quickly

One of the Best Fish and Chips I have had in 50+ years. Thin batter and not sickly, just how i like it. Nice flakey and chunky fish. Perfectly cooked. Nice chips. Curry sauce and mushy peas nothing special and usual fare though. We sat in the restaurant, had a 30 min wait as so popular despite being in Feb. I would imagine in summer you'd have to book days/weeks in advance. Service was quick but a bit haphazard, need to slowdown and deliver everything first time, then no need to rush around as much. Excellent value too. Would defintely go there again if ever in the area.

We visited this restaurant on Friday after we were unable to get served at our "usual" fish and chip restaurant. What a lovely surprise we had. Our "usual" fish and chip restaurant has now been demoted lol. Firstly the service was excellent. A tall, fair haired gentleman found us a table and took our order. He was very helpful and polite. We had a small child with us and nothing was too much trouble. The food arrived freshly cooked and nicely presented. Thick pieces of flaky white fish in light crispy batter. Everything about our meal was delicious. The prices were very reasonable too. Looking forward to visiting again. Thank you Fish Face .

We have been coming to Fishface for years, you cannot beat this place for lovely fish and chips and very friendly service. We would highly recommend it.

we went today what a load of tosh. chips were lime scraps not one decent one and over done. got 2 small sausages and both cold. full chips went in bin. First & last ti.e here.

Good take away service. They were busy on a sunny Saturday but processed the queue well and the cod and chips food quality was good and well served for take away.

The meals were lovely and good portions, I was SO pleased to find gluten free battered fish!! The kids meals were really good value. We were shown to a table near the toilet which was VERY unpleasant and I couldn't wait to leave.

We were told this was the best chippyblocalnto Hartlepool. Not complaining but there are many others that are equally as good. Fish was nice, chips moderate, curry sauce lovely. The prices are comparable to other establishments in the region.

Went in yesterday afternoon for a couple of chip butties and served by a lovely lad really pleasant and helpful and if I had been reviewing that visit I would have given him 5 stars. Went back an hour later to get some hot drinks and the service couldn’t have been anymore different. I walked in the shop and there was a gentleman stood right back that initially I didn’t see. The older lady that was then behind the counter abruptly asked me to go back outside as there was 1 gentleman waiting. I completely understand there are rules to follow but there is also a way to say it without being rude. When the gent finished I walked in and the ladies attitude was just as bad when I asked for a tea and coffee. The lady abruptly declared the machines off no apology or offer of any drinks that where available. I left the shop walked 30 seconds along and got drinks and desserts no problem. The shop still remained open until I left a good while later. I am not sure why you would have hot drinks advertised when you can’t be bothered to make them or certainly this lady couldn’t.

Ordered online today. Long queue when I arrived so was pleased I was just collecting. Fish n chips were gorgeous. They had just been cooked. Light crispy batter, white fish and lovely chips. Pleasant young man who served me. Thank you again

Food was fine - but very off-putting being served by a girl with her nose very clearly not covered (at all) by her mask. People know how to wear them- they just choose not to wear them properly. This is bad ordinarily, but completely irresponsible when serving food. Staff potentially spreading the virus to every member of the public that enters.

Ordered online, great service, beautiful fish and chips today cooked to perfection and gluten free for my husband, lovely mushy peas and fresh bread bun. Perfect, best in town for sure. Thank you! 😋

Enjoyed the visit, having booked a table. Made full use of the Eat Out scheme and saved £21.52 with the family in tow. Most had cod and chips ( though i prefer plaice) and it was all eaten. Chips can get a bit 'hard'

Today was the start of my husband's 70th birthday celebrations. We ordered a takeaway on line yesterday to collect to eat on the Sea front. Excellent pickup arrangements collected from shop on time parked just along the road the sun shone, the meal was tasty and [he wine chilled. Thanks to all concerned even more remarkable as David is coeliac and needs gluten free.

Went here yesterday with my daughter. I ordered the normal fish and chips and my daughter got the cod bites and chips. Can honestly say my fish was the best I've had at a fish and chip shop. The chips also were lovely. only downside was there was a few flys in the restaurant but the food itself was gorgeous. First time I've been here as normally go the almighty cod but not anymore. This will be my first choice. Had to wait around 15 mins but that was no problem as you know its getting cooked fresh.

Last night 21st August I was visting family in Hartlepool and decided to have fish on our way home. Passing through seaton we stopped and viewed the the fish shops at 2030. I am a piscarian and only eat fish normally prepared by my self. Only eat haddock by choice from a fish shop take a way. Know from experience fish face sell proper haddock unlike other take a ways in the area I.e. hadock with the skin on. I was greeted the at the counter when called to order (due to social distancing) by a young lady with an excellent smile after i'm sure would have been long day.I asked for two large haddock and she explained she would have to have them cooked and she would call me back in the shop when ready, not a problem and I paid by card. Then waited ot side to allow our customers to go in to order. The food didn't take long and I had my meal.We decided to eat our meal in the car. Wow what excellent I am 68 year sold and undoubtedly these fish were the best I have ever had from fish a shop. The fish the batter and chips were absolutely first class the price of Around £6.50 was excellent for such excellent service and quality of food. I have paid four times as much in top restaurants in this country for quality and this support with the best.Looks like we have a real gem here. Look out Mr Stein. Brilliant work girls keep it up it up.

Our first trip out for 10weeks, called an order in to collect at 6pm before aN evening beach walk. Food was great, hot and tasty and beautifully cooked tasty fish, big fat brown hot chips, superb homemade mushy peas and ready bang on 6pm. Thank you Fish Face for excellent service and lovely food. Well done to fish face for moving their tables to be 6ft apart to make customers feel safer in the current coronavirus outbreak. Let's hope they can stay open long enough to benefit from their foresight. The fish and chips we had today were very nice and the staff were very welcoming. 10/10

We used to come here several times a month. Friday night 17th of January we came. My husband asked if he could have the chowder the waiter said no problem then came back 10 minutes later to tell us the chef was too busy. To be fair the chowder is normally served in their restaurant upstairs but if I was the owner I’d be really really happy my chef was busy

Visited here and had a good meal. Portion sizes were good and the quality was good. However the prices are getting out of control. We spent £24.30. We go to another well known fish shop in North shields and the exact same meal would have been £18.You cant fault fish face for service, quality and portion size but they need to look very closely at value for money. What was once a cheap weekly meal for the working class is sadly becoming a treat once in a while.

You can't visit the seaside and not have fish and chips. It was very busy so we had to queue for a short while until a table was available, quite surprising for a December day. It wasn't very long before we were shown to our table by a very pleasant member of staff. Our order was taken promptly and our food arrived in good time. The fish and chips were really good, lovely fresh cod in a light crispy batter served with chips, mushy peas and bread and butter. We had the regular portion and it was certainly enough. Very reasonably priced too. We really enjoyed our lunch and will definitely return.

When we first arrived, I was slightly put off by the dark/dingy decor. However, the fish & chips were incredible & I’d definitely return. We were served with very generous portions which were really well priced (I’d say they were a good £2-£3 cheaper than if you go to Saltburn). Homemade tartare sauce was too garlicky but the gravy was really tasty, as were the mushy peas.Absolutely top notch!

Dropped in for lunch. Busy with a 15 minute wait for a table. We ordered a 3 item platter, fish bites and an ectra side of chips. Drinks came along very quickly. Short wait for the freshly cooked food. Batter on the fish was thin and lightly crisp. Battered Halloumi fingers, cheese rings and chicken balls. Good service. All round we will return for a dinner some time.

Had Sunday lunch here with my daughter the fish was so delicious I brought my husband back on the Wednesday for a gluten free as he has coeliac, His batter looked as nice as mine so crispy and delicious, lovely ringtons tea, and bread and butter delicious too must be warbartons and best butter makes a difference, and chips were delicious too, can’t wait to go back.

Was the comment by my friend. We come here often. Staff are always helpful and friendly. They do the best homemade onion rings, and the haddock tastes like it was caught an hour ago. Never greasy.... Delicious

Usually fish and chips is a takeaway and eat at home thing but ever since sitting in earlier this year I never take away any more. The quality of the food is great and extras like the deep fried halloumi are amazing. The service is always friendly and the prices are reasonable.

Was travelling alone on business so had Cod and Chips at Fish Face with a bottle of beer. I ate in the cafe part, but they have a restaurant at the back and you can order some items from that to eat at the front. The service was informal but efficient and the price was excellent. I was very hungry and only just managed to eat the cod. The chips were the best I have ever tasted, absolutely superb in terms of taste and texture. I know that when I next eat chips I will end up comparing them with these and measuring how far short they fall. So a great place to eat and can thoroughly recommend it.

First time sitting in restaurant part and wasn’t disappointed l, food lovely as always but what stood out to me was the young girl serving us, so pleasant and friendly, nothing was a bother to her, she is a total credit to the team, was entertaining daughters friend who is from Bangladesh and she was very impressed with the food and the service, will return very soon

Cod was a thin piece cooked to destruction, completely dried out. The haddock my friend had was excellent , chips great. No excuse for bad fish and chips round here, make a better effort people. why Icelandic cod and Haddock can't get locally landed stuff??

My wife and I were out for a Saturday drive and decided to take a trip down memory lane and go to Seaton Carew, it must be 20 years since we visited.

You can't go to Seaton Carew and not have fish and chips. It was a scorching hot day so we decided to find somewhere to eat inside out of the sun. We chose the Fish Face restaurant and what a good decision that was. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the fish and chips were the best we've had in a very long while; good sized portions, cooked perfectly and served with bread and butter. The restaurant has a good selection of hot and cold soft drinks and is also licensed. We really enjoyed our food and we left much cooler and ready for an ice cream. Happy, happy .

Visited here on a Saturday night. the waitress was excellent giving good advice about portion sizes etc.

We visited Fish face for fish and chips, we ordered three different portions. Large medium and 'half lot' each portion gave value for money , depending on your appetite. The service was first class and the food arrived quickly and hot.

Beautiful fresh white fish everytime, you dont need to travel to Whitby for good fish and chips when we have this gem on our doorstep in Hartlepool. Excellent service excellent atmosphere

Very very nice lunch for the family. Excellent large cod and chips for 3 and a battered sausage for another. All meals were nicely presented and my goodness! Hot! Not over battered either. My pot of tea was a little disappointing.

We visited here as was staying in the area for a night and on my gosh the hawaiian burger was to die for! My partner had the monster burger and he said the same. It was so tasty and homestly the best burger I've had in 25 years of my life. The chips were also lovely! Also the staff were really friendly too :)

Good portions and favourite in Seaton. Chips etc fried in beef dripping. Medium fish is a very good size and no complaints.

Had a lovely early fish supper with a nice glass of wine which was a treat instead of fish& chips in paper to take away. Service was very good and you got exactly what you asked for. Good value and would go again.

I decided to take my mam and neice out for a trip to the beach. I always get my fish and chips from Fish Face. The originally idea was to get our food from the takeaway but decided to sit in the returant instead, best idea. We were greated by a polite member of staff and shown our table. We sat down and ordered drinks and then ordered our food. The wait time wasn’t very long at all and the food came out in gorgeous presentation, i usualy expect bare minimum from chip shop resturants but i was plesently suprised. Food was delicious as always. The young lad who served us was very well mannered and even told my 9 year old neice she could have as many lollies as she wants.

You won’t find better fish and chips than in the restaurant at fish face. Also great service and friendly staff.

We live around 8 miles away with lots of other places to choose from in between us, but this us worth the longer journey. Excellent fish, lovely fish fritters and cracking chips, what more could you ask for.

Grandson (age 10) wanted to take us for lunch for my birthday, our fish and chips were lovely and fresh and well presented ,we got extra hot water with our pot of tea no problem, our grandson had fish bites ,again nice and well presented he even ate some of the chips (which he usually doesn’t even touch) the scampi our daughter ordered all disappeared but we couldn’t finish all the bread and butter all of this was served by friendly staff who made you feel welcome. Lovely service good food as usual.

In Hartlepool and after attending a hat walk organised by students from the arts college which was superp and ended late having travelled miles to attend we were hungry only fish face was open but their food was excellent the fish Couldnt have been sweeter or fresher if it had been caught in the nearby sea the chips were fried in beef fat and with allergies to veg oil I was able to have chips and fish which I haven’t been able to for years and they even offered to just microwave the fish to prevent allergies to the batter the portions were really good value for money staff very friendly and helpful would definitely recommend

went with family (6 of us) food excellent, haddock very good. value for money top whack. enjoy and wait in required, well worth it. However, one point is that on the table in a pepper pot is some sort of sweet paprika or chili of some sort which I sprinkled on my fish....ok after liberal amounts of vinegar added.

My mother is 92 and has to very careful with what she eats. When she is ok to go out for lunch on a Saturday this is the only place she wants to go to which is a big compliment for the staff as they look after her well and the food is lovely.

the chips served in fishface are frozen this is not acceptable as I can easily create this at home at a fraction of the price.

Harder and harder to get decent fish chips and peas but not here. Lovely white cod in a light and crisp batter, decent chips and mushy peas which weren’t just must! Good staff, spotlessly clean. Highly recommended.

Have visited many times and never been disappointed. The pensioners portion of fish and chips is ample and very reasonably priced. Service is always very efficient and friendly . Only criticism is it can be a bit chilly in the front part of the cafe near the door. Nevertheless well worth a visit.

Took our grandchildren here last week, we were seated as soon as we arrived and our order taken quite quickly. The place was very busy and the food fresh & hot. We ordered our food and it came well presented. The chips were delicious crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle! Sausage was tasty and the spam fritters really good, you also get a nice pot of tea. Great service and excellent value if you haven’t tried this place, get yourself in there you won’t be dissointed.

In an area surrounded by Fish & Chip shops and restaurants, it's surprising to make a 30 minute drive here, however I do - often! It's absolutely worth the effort. Service is fast and friendly but the food is outstanding. Cooked to perfection, reasonable prices, you just need to keep coming back.
