Fish and Chips 149 in East Riding of Yorkshire

Fish not cooked as well as it used to be so a little disappointed as we always looked forward to these fish and chips on arrival in Brid. Still very good value. Ah well, things change!

This place has really gone down hill I'm sad to say. When this was owned by the previous owner we used to get lovely fish and chips here. The batter was always light and airy, the chips cooked to perfection. Sadly after todays visit I doubt we will be coming here again. Both our fish were swimming with grease and the fish was dry. My mushy peas had seen better days too. To be fair the price is reasonable but the quality is lacking. Really sad to be writing this review but honesty is the best policy.

Regular customer with loyalty card told “ we are not accepting them any more.” I had a full loyalty card and how can they suddenly refuse to honour it? Truly disgusting! Also dangerous as young kids are riding bikes at speed straight across front of entrance as an obstacle course to fly down the steps at speed and go round again. Someone will get badly hurt exiting shop and being hit by the biking kids. All between 9 and 12 ish but aware they are untouchable. Last time I was there it caused a fight between a parent of the offending child and a 149 customer trying to advise the boy of the dangers but then being aggravated by the boy’s bad attitude. There are plenty of friendlier, safer and more thoughtful fish and chip shops in Bridlington, try them please!

Great Gluten Free fish and chips. Cooked fresh to order and kept separate from other items. Lady on the counter was lovely. 😊

This chippy used to be superb, always people queuing out the door the best there was, yesterday however the decline is sad to see. I popped in after visiting FraisThorpe beach everything just looks so grimy and dirty, for eg: the floor dirty and the glass on the fryers all brown greasy and clearly isn’t being cleaned regularly. ordered the last large haddock and large cod with portion chips, peas and curry sauce. The batter looked ok but when started eating it was completely raw inside. Weird taste and not good at all will not be going back. Whilst waiting the young guy wiped his nose on his sleeve which always is a total put off. Freshly cooked to order and friendly young girl taking orders but overall experience not good 😞

Visited last off on Saturday evening staff were pleasant even included a free curry sauce chips were great but unfortunately fish batter was under cooked to the point it wasn’t even attached to the fish.

When we go to Brid we usually use the same Chip shop each time. Today it was closed so we had to seek an alternative and we are so glad we did. We came across 149 by chance and I have to that we have never tasted better. The fish and chips very piping hot, the chips light and fluffy and the quality of fish and batter were the best we’ve ever had. Great value too! This is now going to be our new destination when visiting Brid.

After having great fish and chips a few weeks ago thought I would travel again to 149. Was very dissapointed as the guy who was serving had a black fleece jacket on covered in hairs which was very offputting. Ordered a regular haddock which I decided to eat in the car outside. Good job I did as the fish was not a complete fillet it was thin bits of fish stuck together. I returned it and was offered a replacement but asked for a refund. Won't be going back again.

We were visiting Bridlington for the day. Here is a fish and chip shop with, it appears, a considerable reputation in the area. They suggest that they have won awards for their food. Everything was cooked to order which was excellent and boded well. Chips were good but the fish was a little lacking in flavour and thickness and the whole thing was flooded with scraps. On the way home we stopped at the Fish Shed at Howden. Now those were real fish and chips!!!

We use this fish and chip shop regularly and live locally, however this evening we have been left disappointed. The chips had been left standing a long time and were cold and not fresh. The fish, although cooked freshly, was undercooked and the batter soggy. It’s a lot of money to pay for it not to be right.

Called in one last night for a fish and chip supper takeaway with my partner. Fish and chips are amazing and the best I have had for a while. Friendly staff and a great service. Certainly would recommend.

Ordered Gulten Free battered sausage and gluten free chips and the sausage was pink and raw inside. This is not good enough. My partner ordered normal sausage and it wasn’t pink or raw.

I really enjoyed the food from here and they gave me a deal so one dish was cheaper. However, within all the banter they forgot items even though I asked them if everything was in. I had to go back which they admittedly dealt well with. All of us thought the food was good. I'd go again for sure

Good takeaway. Friend's enjoyed their fish and chips. My battered sausages with chips and gravy were delicious. Long queue but worth the wait. Would recommend

Would have to say these were the best fish and chips we had eaten for quite a long time and judging by the amount of customers waiting when we were there so do a lot of others. The staff were really helpful and friendly and will definitely be returning next time in Bridlington

Very disappointed. The shop was not particularly busy yet we were made to wait 25 minutes for our order (2 golden years) while we kept being bypassed for other customers orders (which was also fish). When it got to us they’d ran out of chips which we had to wait further time for (given to the people that came after us) and ran out of scraps who’d also been given to customers that came after us. The fish we were given was tiny and I then noticed she forgot to give me my fish entirely. 149 has gone massively downhill since it changed hands, we won’t be in any rush to go back.

wow , wow , wow. I was the guy that that I was a tad dissoipnted. Batter was crisp, the chips were amazing 👏 order the gravy, its like beef dripping in a dip. 5 stars and we'll done to your staff

Got two senior meals and one normal fish and chips . They were awful. Would not use again. Most went into bin. Mother-in-law. Had to make some toast.

At 5.05pm 26th September 2023 I visited 149 Bridlington to purchase a Golden Years meal with cash only. I immediately noticed the 10% discount order machine for card users. At the time I was one of only 3 customers in the shop. I asked the female assistant if the discount could be taken off my cash order taking into account the number of customers present at the time.She politely said no and stated the machine helped customers at very busy times. I paid for my meal which cost @£6.99p and took my meal home.Although the quality of the meal was good I was disappointed with the number of chips in the box.

Just got ripped off ordering gluten free chips. Got the boxes back to our accommodation and when we opened them there were just a few chips in the bottom of each box. Not even a fifth of a portion.

Fancied a chippy tea after arriving in Brid so tried fish & chips at 149. Really good choice lovely flakey fish and excellent chips. Not the cheapest but well worth the little bit extra.

Having enjoyed Fish & Chips from 149 in the past and making it one of our go to places when we visit Bridlington , we decided to go again this time unfortunately the quality of the fish and chips has deteriorated quite dramatically. Both of our fish were overcooked and dry and the fish seemed like it had been frozen - even had bones in which was off putting, in contrast the chips were undercooked overall very disappointing - at least the seagulls will have had a good feast. The two ladies who were serving were very jovial and pleasant/ polite which is a credit to the business - think the owners just need to review their suppliers and once again start offering the 5 star quality fish and chips which had become known for - we even remember having to queue and sometimes wait up to 20 minutes in the past but then it was well worth the wait because you would know you would be enjoying excellent food - this time we walked straight in and was served immediately and ended up with unenjoyable disappointing poor quality food
