Been coming here for something like 8 years now. Still best Thai food around and one of the friendliest welcomes in Balham 🙂 Best sweetcorn cakes in the world. No joke.

Back a year later - still great and lovely staff. ————— So many great great beer choices. Me and my partner immensely enjoyed the Thai sharer platter. Well cooked and very yummy

Nice medium sized pub with a wide selection of Thai dishes. Very cheap and massive portions. However I was not impressed by their favours. Not bad by any means, but far from authentic Thai cuisine. Still worth a visit if you prefer pub vibes over fancy restaurants

10 out of 10 for food pictures say it all. Service was excellent and the place is very nice. Look forward to returning. Nothing negative to say.

We didn't end up eating here since the bar is open from 12.30 but the kitchen doesn't actually open til 1.30pm. We were meant to grab an early lunch but just want to comment that the staff were really friendly and patient and the decor of the place is really cute and had a nice relaxed vibe to it. Would definitely revisit in order to actually grab a bite/drink.

For me, Firefly hits quite a few tick boxes. Great atmosphere and staff, fantastic selection of beers/ales, and delicious Thai food. Add to that the multiple screens for sports and you’re on to a winner! It’s a bar with food, not a restaurant - so if you’re not a fan of background music and atmosphere, it’s not the place for you. Would highly recommend.

A great little find. Close to Balham tube and rail. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good value (more important these days), great choice of beers and the thai food hits the spot and they have a few tvs for sport.

Spent in excess of £300 here today as a special family occasion. Ordered drinks and, due to a wobbly table, one drink toppled over and soaked one of our party (another received a small cut to his leg (wasn't a problem) but the sarcastic manager came and said, "do you want a bandage?". I ordered a meal that did not specify that it contained coconut, it came out and was, pretty much, a coconut soup. The chef responded that "all our meals have coconut in" (not according to the menu). The food was excellent as was the replacement meal. Our three year old waited for the desert menu (there isn't one) so we asked a lovely server if we could pop out and buy her an ice cream, she said yes. On our return the manager said we couldn't bring the ice cream in. We told him that we'd asked and he said , as a one off, he would allow it. What is my problem you might be thinking? He (the manager) then told off the server in front of everyone. I asked to speak to him regarding said ice cream and frankly I don't think I have ever come across a more obnoxious individual. His reply was that he didn't sell burgers or pizza so he wouldn't allow anyone to bring those in, my response was, if you're calling yourself a restaurant, why don't you have a desert menu. He then said we'd come in and thrown a drink over ourselves and he hadn't charged us! Honestly, I couldn't care less, we just won't go back there. I am just totally gob smacked at his attitude.

I visited the bar with my friend recently. The drinks and food were all fantastic, and I found the staff to be very helpful and provide excellent customer service. However, there were some behaviours from certain members that I found to be questionable. At a nearby table there were three staff members (they were either on a break, finished a shift or had came in out of hours for food) who were being extremely loud and distracting. They were standing close to people's tables and shouting across to each other (essentially over people's heads), and standing up to take photographs of each other in a way that blocked the main pathway through the bar. I just found it to be rude and perhaps a bit socially unaware, and while I recognise they may not have been on shift, they were still acting in a fairly rude way given that there were a lot of other people in the bar at the time who were noticeably distracted by them. The best example I can give of this is that I noticed a couple who were sat closer to them get up and move. I must stress that the service of the on shift staff and the food prepared by the kitchen was all amazing, so I just found it to be a shame that the behaviour of some certain staff members took away from an enjoyable evening.

booked a table for dinner for 8 people. service was great and the food was very tasty. it was quite loud so it was tricky talking across the table - not sure if it's quieter on other nights. maybe bear in mind if you're going as a larger group.

Some pretty damn good Thai food and a smashing line up of beers on tap. It seems to be where the HaBs (husbands and boyfriends) go when the girls are sloshing prosecco at Balham social next door!

Disgusting food, chicken salad was small portion of meat surrounded with lots of oily batter and my friend got rice and had to switch her dish both were inedible. Will never come back!

We love this place, a very chill place serving Thai food. Friendly atmosphere with Tv screens showing the football. Wohld reccomend as a hangout or date night. [4.5/5]

Firefly? FireThai more like. What an exceptional experience. From the moment you walk in you’re assaulted across all 5 senses; the decor, the smell of fresh food, the taste of what they serve and the service, all to the backdrop of an amazing atmosphere. Could not recommend more and will certainly be back next weekend! Most of all, the range of cocktails and beers/ales are superb and - in my opinion - is one of, if not the, best spots in london for variety and a refreshing change that other places simply get nowhere near to.

I spend most of my nights here And truly think it’s an excellent establishment. Exceptionally ran. 17 craft beers and authentic Thai food at its best.

Frank in balham, I have been a excellent customer at firefly for 5 years. I'm no longer a customer as bar staff refused me my Asian friends to entry . Just because a group of regular guys sitting chatting, drinking.togeter we're hatred , racist looks upon me my mates. The owner Dave ,staff had no saying or appreciation for my business at firefly. I normally visit this bar for the excellent Thai in a pub food offer which is excellent. The bar staff are gracious and warm. I highly recommend.

Just love this place. I don't think I've ever tasted Pub Thai food as food as good as here! I had the duck spring rolls and massamam curry. Duck spring rolls tasted different to the usual m, more filo, less duck. Massamam great as usual.

Good food for a reasonable price. Party of five this time and everyone was satisfied. Staff is attentive and friendly.

Above all, the beer choices 🤯👌🏻! Also, the food is nothing to turn your nose up at. Easily one of the best Nasi Goreng’s I’ve tried in London. My only criticism is that it was missing a fried egg, as is how it’s traditionally served.

You should definitely try their lunch menu, excellent value for money. Don’t forget to ask their home made chocolates at the end of the meal.

Great little for for some good Thai food. We came to watch the FA Cup and had booked a table, which was handy.

The best Prawn thai salad this side of the river

Great bar with lovely food- they also allow dogs so a regular spot for us. They play sports with commentary played through the speakers, which is great for people going for that purpose but if you’re going for a meal to talk to the people you’re with- check there isn’t a game on or you probably won’t be able to hear them! Otherwise a lovely place with great atmosphere.

Cosy little place in a great location. Great selection of ales and lagers, both traditional and craft. Staff are friendly. I've not tried the food there but it always smells amazing.

Unfortunately the judgemental staff let this place down. Accused of not paying the tab by the bar manager, having spent a full night here with my girlfriend for dinner and drinks. Zero apology when payment was proven on my bank statement and a very entitled attitude from the bar manager. Completely ruined what was a fun night. Safe to say we won’t be returning - a real shame as we’re local.

A great little bar and restaurant, minutes away from the tube/ train station, in Balham. There is an affordable and delicious Thai menu with a good selection of beers on tap. They have a few small TVs and often show sport but not in a sports bar type of way. The vibe is very relaxed. It can get quite busy, especially at weekends, but you can make a reservation by phone or email. They staff are really friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend!

I visited Firefly for food looking for good Thai in the area. Unfortunately it did not live up to the expectations. The starter was all ready fried food and seemed overpriced for what it was, and main main soup course was OK but not spicy at all (contrary to what was indicated on the menu). It could be I was just unlucky that day and would consider trying it again but I definitely did not have best experience.

We ordered a couple of cocktails which came quickly and were nice - small measures but good nonetheless! It took a few moments to be asked for our food order but the food arrived quickly and was delicious. Firefly has consistently good portion sizes across each time I’ve been there. The only downside really was that we were cramped in a small alcove and the chairs were incredibly uncomfortable. We were with 2 tall men who could barely fit in this area and overall it was very uncomfortable. Best to visit whilst it’s quieter during the week.

My personal favourite is the battered fish curry (number 19). It is the bomb! The cocktails are also delicious. I'll definitely be going back for a third time

Best pad Thai I’ve had outside of Thailand, very polite helpful staff and an excellent variety of beer and food. Highly recommend.

Told the waitress we didnt want to pay service and she kept sarcastically telling us how kind we were whilst we paid. She threw the card machine across the table for us to pay. Food was fine but the service from that waitress was disgusting and we wont be coming back. If you screw up an order, take it on the chin. If someone doesn't want to pay service, dont insult them as they pay.

I am very fortunate to reside 5 mins away from The Firefly and maybe I am biased but have had so many good meals and experiences thought I would at last put pen to paper. This bar is different for so many reasons, interesting food and quality, range of beers, service, and general ambiance. Aware like any establishment everyone has a different experience on a given day. However, a testament for me is consistency. For this, I give them the highest praise. Only yesterday (Sat night) we ventured into town to eat and had awful experiences so rushed back to Balham in time for food service. Such a comfort !

Popped in here for a drink. Quite liked the menu so I ordered food. After each order I was promptly charged. While sitting enjoying a lovely meal, I noticed other guests were not getting charged immediately. I forgot to mention I was the only non white guest. Of course when I mentioned my issue with the manager she made her excuses and apologised. But let’s face it. I am brown and was treated differently. Please don’t even try to justify this. It was very obvious.

Best Thai in Balham! This is always the place I take friends to when they’re visiting me and it always impresses. It can get noisy as they play sports and it’s always busy but the food is amazing and great cocktails too. I do wish they had a better system for seating though - I’ve grabbed a seat a couple of times only to get a dirty look from staff as apparently someone else was waiting (but it’s so crowded and there’s no specific place to wait so it isn’t clear at all!). Of course happy to move and wait my turn but I wish they could have a clearer system to avoid the awkwardness!

This used to be one of our favourite places to eat in Balham. We got a takeaway the other day and unfortunately the starters were burnt to a crisp and so salty we couldn't even eat them. When we were waiting to collect and incredibly rude waitress continued talking to a colleague at the bar for over 10mins even though she could see we were waiting. All that time, we could see our food sitting there getting cold. It's a real shame they treat regular customers like this (we used to go at least twice a month pre lockdown and tried to order regularly during lockdown as to help keep them in business) but am afraid we will no longer be supporting them. The quality of the food and service has become dreadful. Avoid.

Decent beers and reasonably priced authentic thai food for under £10.

Beautiful little place , serves delicious foods reasonably priced very tasty and full of flavour , drinks also pocket friendly. Staff are lovely and friendly over all lovely experience every time ive visited , also have a little outside seating area.

This place has some delicious and authentic Thai food. The person who I was with is born and raised in Thailand and can verify this... as I wouldn't have know any better! Great beer selection and chilled atmosphere too!

Awful experience. Was looking forward to a rare evening out with my partner. Firstly they didn’t have our booking and they left us standing around awkwardly for 10 minutes - no apology offered. Then we reluctantly shown to a table with no service for another 10 minutes. Then a very grumpy waiter was aggrieved that we hadn’t decided what we wanted to order despite having failed to tell us the menu was only accessible online. An hour and a quarter later still no food! The cherry on top was discovering that the food order hadn’t even been put through so we left.

Great selection of foreign guest beer

This is one of my favourite restaurant. The food here is incredible! No 42 is my favourite seafood noodle dish. The red thai curries are a great choice as well. The service sometimes isn’t good but the food makes up for it :) I recommend prawn dumplings and duck spring rolls for starter. I don’t drink beer, but they have a big selection of craft beer as well

Came here on a whim as it doesn’t look much from the outside. Had an amazing evening, atmosphere is buzzy, great for a drink and some of the best Thai food I’ve had. Staff were equally friendly and attentive. Will be our new local go to spot!!!

A regular over (at least) the last seven years. All sorts of experience from awesome to horrible for so many reasons. Awkward outside seating during this COVID era. Hooked to their Paulaner ! Thank you for the Munich nostalgia. Part of my Balham life. It took me a while to order the Thai food. It's ok and fairly priced for London. And the kitchen staff is very hard-working so special thanks to her. No price hikes on the beers in the near future hopefully.

Excellent cocktails and a great selection of draught beer. The music was jazzy and interesting so no complaints from me! The Thai menu looks quite attractive too - better than the usual pub menu. Highly recommended.
