This is an absolute gem of a cafe - I met a friend from Dublin here and we both had a fantastic lunch, dessert and coffee. The combination of the quality of the food, imaginative delicious menu and value is incomparable to options found in London (my home where we need less franchises and more of these fantastic independent cafes!). In addition, the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is great and comfortable, so I strongly recommend this as to all. Looking forward to my next visit there..........

Just an update that the £2 coffee deal pre 9am is gone. Back to full price. I’d noticed the advertising banner promoting the deal and early opening was gone but reckoned it was our lousy local council that removed it. Our local ‘no public park here’ administration is anti local business yet throw money at fly by night spivs who promise employment and rarely deliver (one recent chancer must have been drinking his own whiskey). This council couldn’t run a bath with photo opportunity councillors that wouldn’t work on batteries. Anyway the coffee deal was brief and is now gone but the coffee and the service remain really ace and now available pre 9am.

It’s all change at Finegan’s now with a 7am opening and a £2 deal for any takeaway coffee up to 9am. Fair play to them. It’s been a few years since I’ve called by here as I’m rarely in the city. I tend to go to Krem when en route to Belfast by public transport but here was always closed when I walked right by it. I had a dental appointment this morning that brought me into the city for the ungodly hour of 9am so I went in for a £2 flat white and it’s the best flat white I’ve had in a very long time - just exceptional. Staff too real friendly. If I could award 10 stars I sure would. The dental appointment however was a disaster as the dentist had a new scan machine that was determinedly obstructive so after a frustrating 80 minutes all was abandoned. Better luck next week perhaps. I’m glad I had a fab early morning coffee.

A very limited menu. The 'basic' decor is appealing, the girls helping were good but the manager told my daughter all the tray bakes were not for sale just the donuts. Of course they were cute sale but wanted her to buy the donut and he tried to be dominant because she's teenager. He wouldn't have done that to me. She didn't tell me till later. It left a bitter not sweet taste

Arrived and told tofu dish available so order that and drinks, then told no tofu dish left so reorder something else. Still no drinks. New dish arrives without the substitute asked for. Wait for substitute, doesn't arrive. By this time we've finished and are ready to pay. Lipstick on glass and waiting 45 minutes for a breakfast on a Sunday afternoon that never came .. 🙃 When we sat down there was something mumbled about breakfast menu ? It was 1.45 asked for water and a coffee ! The coffee was so bitter I could not drink it ! Went to pour some water and there was lipstick on the glass ..OK so it happens! But to wait 45 minutes and 2 tables get served before us plus no staff even thought to question why we had no food? probably because they were to busy talking 🤔 First time here and I can say for sure that I will never be back . So it was freshly made doughnuts that brought us here. They had advertised on Facebook that these were being made today so it’s impulse buying. The selection included lemon curd, chocolate, raspberry (with a real raspberry atop each doughnut), strawberry (with a slice of real strawberry) and one with a wedge of honeycomb. They sure are a premium product, top priced at £2.8 each or 6 for £15. I got 6. They tasted very good but not wow. I got a flat white coffee too which was ace (£2.7). Was I glad to try them, well yes. Would I buy them again, no as they are too darn pricy. So when I next want a doughnut it’ll be into the shelbourne bakery just around the corner - their doughnuts have a lighter texture, they have more flavour and are less than half the price. I’ve no doubt that the Finegan & Son doughnut is a small batch, better quality doughnut with more expensive ingredients, but not worth it at over twice the price.

This was the first time that we visited Finegan & Son. We decided to go for brunch. With everything going on at this present moment, we expected the coffee shop to be adhering to government regulations regarding covid-19. Upon entering the shop, it was immediately clear that this was not the case. To our shock, the staff behind the bar preparing food and drinks weren’t wearing face masks or visors. We waited at the door to be seated and a member of staff showed us to a table (also not wearing a face covering). The tables weren’t 2 metres apart and customers not seated were chatting closely (also not 2 metres apart). Forget social distancing! It’s a real shame because the food and the coffee were lovely. However, we were so disappointed and were made to feel so uncomfortable that we certainly won’t be back.

The menu has good variety & portions were far More generous than expected. It was understandably busy & social distancing was ok. ( A bit more casual than in RoI, in my opinion ). The coffee was delicious as was the good. We had a mixture of pancakes, breads, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, potatoes. Would highly recommend this cafe. As an aside, a generous Newry man gave us his parking ticket, (which had 45 mins left) as we had not had the chance to get to bank machine for £’s,

Quite disappointed. We arrived on our way to the giants causeway and we were quite dissapointed, first impressions the cafe is cute and quirky and the menu although limited due to covid I suspect sounded lovely. We were greeted by a pleasant man that got us sat down pretty quickly it was all downhill from here, the staff seemed to walk around like headless chickens aimlessly walking around creating a busy atmosphere when in fact it should have been quite manageable especially with 4 members of front of house staff, it took about 15 mins to have our order taken. The girl that took our order didn't really have much customer service experience and was quite bland (just like the food). I ordered the katsu chicken burger with no bun and my partner had the jackfruit tacos (the only reason for the second star) we waited approx. 40 mins for food. I would understand if the place was rammed however it wasn't, so no excuses. Let's start with the katsu burger, extremely overcooked chicken obviously forgotten and left in the fryer too long - tasteless, the katsu sauce was pretty much just coleslaw with a bit of curry powder again very tasteless. It's always a bit worrying when the chips are the best part of your meal. The jackfruit tacos were full of flavour and delicious, brilliant recipe and kudos to the chef, the only critisim here is that there is no warning on the menu about the spice level, for my partners pallet this was way too much and she had no warning before ordering. All in all Finegan & Son its a 2/5. You really have something here but it needs a lot of work, front of house need a bit more training and the kitchen shouldn't be sending out tasteless overcooked food. Pros - clean - friendly - good atmosphere

Three of us came for small plates night and were advised to arrive at 19:00 which we did. The booking process was straightforward. The first course arrived at 20:10 then the third course (the main) at 21:30. When we asked why the sevice was so slow we were advised that everyone had to be seated before the first course was served (supposed to be seated at 1900 and course served at 1930) and a couple had arrived late at 2000 hence the delay. The food was amazing and I can’t fault that in anyway and it was very reasonably priced for the quality with products all locally sourced. All of the courses were explained. However, the experience was not good, it was cold and I wore my coat and we sat on old school chairs which were hard and uncomfortable. When we complained about the pace of the sevice, while our concerns were addressed we were made to feel we didn’t understand the concept and that the experience was meant to last for four hours. We have dined in fine dining establishments previously and have never come accross this concept and can’t understand where it is acceptable anywhere to wait that long for food or to blame other customers for the delay. Surely if other customers are late then they are turned away or receive their courses when they arrive so as not to delay other guests. We had come to ask earlier in the day if we needed to be there for 19:00 exactly to which we were informed yes. Suggest advising customers there is flexibility on this time so that they are not waiting so long from arrival to first course (1hr 10min is too long to wait). When I asked to pay for the bill I asked for the card machine from the waitress who said she would get it. I waited another ten minutes then had to ask her again and she told me I had to pay at the counter...why not say that in the first place?!
