Figbar in Norwich

What's with the new rules requiring customers to order food otherwise they can't drink their drinks at the store. Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face comes to mind, as I would have got food after my coffee but I guess I should go to a chain next time rather than trying to support a local business!

I understand the all parties must buy food rule. But my friends were ahead of me and ordered. I decided not to get anything.... When we were then informed. It was fine. I said I'd wait outside for them, which I did. My friend then bought me a hot chocolate so I'd come back in. It got brought over. The person told me you have to buy food as well as a drink. It's a food purchase dine in only. I asked for a refund on the hot chocolate in that case as I felt very awkward.... The bald guy, maybe the owner, then spent the rest of the time staring at me after the very kind lady working there spoke on my behalf and they allowed me to stay this once. My friends said the food was lovely and the hot chocolate I had certainly was. But I felt terrible and it ruined the atmosphere for my friends. I feel awkward and it's ruined our evening and I'm sure the poor lady now feels terrible too. Shame on the owner. Please make a more obvious sign to state you MUST purchase food (a drink doesn't count), or maybe that would make you seem far too obnoxious and deter future diners. Please state this on this page description. It says to drink, eat and socialise..... I was drinking.

Oh my god. I had the salted caramel chocolate taute and it was the most incredible flavour. It came with too much ice cream, but that's a problem I can deal with. The people I was with each had different desserts too and they were also exquisite. The espresso was top notch too, and a lovely choice of music. We went quite late and they were preparing the next days deserts.l with real ingredients (even fresh yeast). It really is an amazing experience to round off any meal. I didn't pay so I'm not sure what the coat is, but it felt expensive and I'm sure it was worth every penny!

A modern little cafe/ dessert bar to sit in and enjoy. Friendly staff and lovely owners and tons of cakes and indulgent desserts that are all unique and deliciously perfect. I had the snickers which was so good and beautifully presented, a generous portion and taking all the elements of a snickers onto a plated dessert and not bad prices. Also have had their cakes which are moist and flavourful. I would put this to the top of my list of cafes to come to if you have a sweet tooth or just want a delicious home-made treat.

Wow! What wonderful artistic plated desserts. You really feel like you are getting a treat. We had plated desserts but you can also have bakes from the counter, pair your dessert with wine or grab a coffee with it. They open some evenings so would like to go back then. Quite a small intimate cafe in a lovely part of the city near the Maddermarket theatre.

What a fantastic, delicious experience! Out in Norwich for my birthday with friends and came across the Figbar by accident. Amazing dessert(s), felt like we were in a Master Chef Australia tasting experience. Not only did it look amazing, but the textures and flavours were perfectly matched. We had the signature hot chocolate and the assiette selection platter. Will definitely be back when in Norwich.

A great find, we had dinner elsewhere but they had a big delay on desserts. Glad that we left and stumbled across Figbar. Great desserts and atmosphere, only minor criticism was the music. It was very interesting music, just the volume was a little too high for my taste.

While other places just charge high prices, the price of the cakes and coffee in here are justified by the quality. Best coffee in Norwich.

If you have a sweet tooth then Figbar is for you! Spoilt for choice I eventually decided on the Jaffa cake and was not disappointed. Great service, lovely decor and a relaxed vibe. Go on treat yourself….

This was our first stop on our "dessert tour" around Norwich, and it was a really lovely place to just stop and relax with a cup of tea/coffee and a nice little sweet treat. I had the vegan chocolate chip& rosemary shortbread which was surprisingly delicious, I keep thinking about it even now and will need to try and recreate this at home! If I was local to Norwich, this would definitely be my go to coffee shop! The staff were lovely and the music was very easy listening and relaxing, very much fitting the vibe. I also noticed they had lots of gluten free options, which wasn't as common (or at least in the places we went to) in some other place, so would also recommend if you are either vegan or gluten free :)

Went here the other day after seeing their brownie sunday on Instagram. I was super excited to try it because it looked amazing. Now to be fair their range of cakes are amazing, handmade, well worth a shot, however their sundays are weird and unpleasant, for a start I got a small one and disappointingly it was just a tonne of weirdly salty soft serve with some salted caramel on top and a tiny amount of brownie, under that topping though... Nothing, I only ate the top quarter and threw the rest out because like I say, just salty soft serve all the way down. The person behind the counter didn't seem super confident with the machine or maybe she just didn't want to so maybe they'll be better now. Again, it's worth stating that their cakes are awesome and the restaurant has a nice little seating area. That's why I give them a 3 star, definitely avoid the Sunday though.

Whenever we come up to Norfolk we try to make a detour into Norwich just to come here. The cakes and plated desserts are the ultimate special treat and very well made, and don't forget the wonderful coffees and hot chocolates. Consistently great and there's always something new to try

Good coffee, great cake, friendly service. Grab a window seat and people watch as they wander up and down the street outside or visit the headshop opposite.

Great selection of cakes, although the vegan selection could be improved. Tried out their vegan snicker bar (very delicious) and vegan chocolate chip cookies (good but a bit on the tougher side for a cookie) on a recent visit.

Amazing cakes and nice coffee in this lovely cafe on St John Maddermarket. We have tried different cakes and they are all delicious! Friendly staff and atmosphere.

Had an amazing salad plate, great Turkey, slaw and toast butternut squash. Visually I was slightly disappointed but the taste and quality more than made up for it.

Very nice dessert pots however the portions are way too small.. Spent 13 pounds on little pots unbelievable 🙄

Met a friend for a naughty cake and coffee and a catch up. Staff were super friendly and welcoming! The food was delicious and as a vegan I was pleased to see some vegan options and the oat milk alternatives. Nice feel about the place - you can tell care and love has been put into everything there and it felt like a real treat ! Will deffo be back again :)

Warning! This place will cause a dependency on exquisite baking and fine beverages. I cannot tell you how I now depended on getting my next fix of the most incredible deserts!

After a lovely meal we decided to go here for dessert and wine , One dessert cake very dry, other ok , cannot have alchohol if not purchasing food, Red wine not great, in all very dissapointing .

Good coffee, mixed reviews of the cakes. We bought a selection and two of them seemed quite dry. Enjoyed the peanut butter & banana one a lot though.

Popped in for coffe after shopping in the city. Two excellent coffees. An amazing savoury pastry with bacon, bree and fig. And a very adult granola square. Already planning to go back for Smores (a personal favourite from trips to America) and the snickers based dessert. Update: still my favourite place in Norwich for sweet treats and a coffee. Delicious ice creams in summer month as well. Highly recommended

Best place in Norwich for your sweet treats!

Friendly helpful staff, good coffee (though handle-less mugs and the coffee was French (strong and needed more milk)). Complex flavours in the food and cakes which worked very well. Experts. Kudos to the cooks in the basement kitchen too.

I regularly visit to cake to carry home or treat special people who work nearby. THeir cakes are excellent. The service isn't *quite* as good as it has been, and the fact they no longer serve Tokaj wine - or indeed any of the sweet wines they used to do - is a sadness. But their plated desserts are *out of this world*. Totally worth the time, and do try what we've done: a Norwich dinner crawl. Go where you please for starter and main course - then here for a finish with a flourish.

A truly delicious selection of cakes with a confident price tag. Figbar creates unique bites that excels expectations. The selection; freshness and the flavours are well constructed. Admittedly Figbar prices are certainly on the higher end of the spectrum but it’s expected when you are paying for this level of quality. For those on a budget, perhaps Figbar’s the place to go solely on a special occasion.

Frequented more than few times, each visit was just as good as the last. Perfect for an after dinner treat and excellent for bringing home or gifting these amazing cakes and desserts. Obviously made with an acute sense of detail that shines through in both taste and presentation.

The chocolate and salted caramel cake, vegan, is simply the best thing I've tasted in its line: dense, rich and utterly satisfying.

Collected the 'Nostalgia Tea for 2' this afternoon. Easy to order online, collection was quick, safe and friendly and the food certainly did not disappoint! Would highly recommend and cannot wait to visit once you guys can reopen to sample the menu!

Isn't it all about the taste. It is alittle more expensive than the competition but you do instantly realise what you are paying for, the plated deserts are perfectly presented. It has a very nice atmosphere, the staff could work on there customer care skills, I don't think anyone likes the fact the staff think they are above everyone else, this isn't the first time this has happened.

Very lovely cafe with a wide range of delicious desserts however there is very limited space so it can be difficult to get a table during busy periods.

Visited fig bar for the first time a few days ago. The cakes were SO amazing looking it took us a while to decide (fortunately there was noboby else waiting)!! The young lady that served us was very pleasant but VERY softly spoken and we struggled to hear her over the extremely loud music. We shared several different cakes between us, all of which were superb, but did struggle to converse given the noise. I would highly recommend this place from the quality point of view, as the cakes are a work of art. Yes a little expensive but lovely as a treat. I would however recommend the establishment to be a little more mindful on the volume of the music, given the small space that you sit in. It won't put me off returning though.

I have had the opportunity of visiting Figbar 3 times by chance not knowing what an exquisite restaurant I was taking this Equestrian German Vet to recover her stuff from her divorce the first time. Even though about 2 plus hours from Biggin Hill where I lived and flew out of, I made excuses to do the drive and then fly up there with 2 other planes. All I can still say wow wow and more wow.

It's really nice place, yummy deserts, really worth, downside is they don't actually have figs hmm.

It sells cake and coffee. Or coffee and cake. Jolly tasty too. Staff are friendly and didn't murder me once.

Stopped by for dessert after lunch at a local restaurant. Good choice of treats. Delicious desserts! Friendly staff.

Jamie and his team produce incredibly high-end desserts at affordable prices What a place! Can't recommend it enough if you're having a meal in the city skip dessert at the restaurant. You are at and come to Fig bar instead.

Lovely place to go! Love the idea of the business. Pop in, eat dessert and enjoy time with friends. The selection of desserts were incredible and the ideas and flavour combinations so so good. I had the Jaffa Bundt Cake which was so good it filled me up for hours! Will be back again as soon as I can.

I've seen a couple of negative reviews of Figbar on here & I have to say, that has not been my experience at all. The atmosphere is laid back & relaxed & the staff are lovely. Coffees are outstanding, best mochas in the city IMHO. Chocolatey but not overpowering the coffee, which is also fab. Cakes are biblical. Genuinely epic. My personal Fave is the ginger/pear loaf. Proper, spicy, fiery ginger cake with fresh pear chunks. Luvverly. We get a selection whenever we come in, then split them. Last time round it was brownies, blondes & jaffa cakes. All killer, no filler. Definitely drop in for top notch gooey, cakey, serious artery hardening cake joy.

Only had the various cakes here which is always a treat as they are lovely, but can't help but feel they've got the seating all wrong in here. The bench at the only table is enormously heavy and barely a gap between the top of it and the table, only other option is high stools at a bar. Not very accessible.

Viajé para visitar este lugar desde Diss cuando me encontraba con un amigo e hice algunas compras navideñas.Desearía no haberme molestado. El ambiente del lugar era terrible. No se ve ambiente, calidez ni decoración navideña. Nada sobre las mesas solo soporta un desolador, frío y desagradable.El servicio al cliente no existía y mi amigo y yo no podíamos escucharnos pensar en la música de Elvis que retumbaba en nuestra conversación. Pedí dos veces que se rechazara para poder conversar. También había una madre con un bebé en un cochecito, así que habría pensado que el propietario / servidor tendría más pensamiento y respeto.Era como si los estuviéramos molestando para que nos sirvieran. Sin saludo ni ayuda con la elección. Mi pastel de polenta estaba seco y sin sabor y mis amigos brownie sin inspiración.En definitiva, ¡una experiencia terriblemente decepcionante que nunca se repetirá ni se recomendará a nadie!

I've been lucky enough to eat in a few 2 and 3 michelin star restaurants around the world and i can't honestly remember a more intensely flavoured yet balanced dessert than the one i just had here at Figbar. It would have been perfect after a full meal but as it was just dessert my only criticism is that i wanted more of it. The mocha coffee was, i think, the best i've ever had as well..

Exquisite cakes and delicious coffee.

Place was cute, but very cramped. Not clear how to order. Ordered two puddings (the rocher and the snickers). The rocher had some fermented stuff in the ice cream which tasted like eating an otherwise nice pudding ruined by a drenching of dark soy sauce and the snickers was just layer upon layer of sugar, which has left us both feeling sick.

¡Fui con un amigo a tomar un pastel como regalo del viernes y pensé en visitar Figbar! Me encantó la decoración, pero me decepcionó un poco la elección (y el precio), pero decidí probarlo adecuadamente. Tuve el pastel de chocolate, plátano y mantequilla de maní (4) y aunque horriblemente caro para un pastel pequeño, estaba pegajoso y chocolateoso (pero realmente no conseguí mantequilla de maní o plátano). Mi amigo tenía el frangipane de higo y pistacho (3.75) y realmente lo disfruté. Es bueno, pero en el lado de mayor precio.

Me and my partner regularly go to this place. Cakes change almost on a daily basis so it's a good enough reason to go at least twice a week! Amazing cakes and space to just relax... I wonder what I'll have today?!

Amazing. Massive success story in Norwich and the owners are still absolutely lovely. Also try 'SALT' where the chef 'Jamie' is rocking the food bowls of delights. x

Figbar had a stall outside of their location thanks to the Norwich Summer Lanes fest today. As my friend and I walked by (late afternoon), they still had some cakes left. They were selling them at £3/cake and while we were discussing which one to get, one of the guys said we could have two cakes for a fiver.

Popped by with a friend today, lovely friendly service and absolutely delicious food,I would recommend the Rocher pudding, we were made to feel very welcome, I will definitely go again.

Deserts, cakes, coffee, tea and alcohol. This is a great place to call in for your desert after a meal elsewhere or for a treat. Prices £3-7 with an interesting selection of ice cream deserts with very high quality ice creams served in a number of themes. I tried the Snickers with chocolate, toffee, crunchy biscuit and peanut - was great if a little sweet. Very difficult to choose as so much choice. Very popular. (Toilets here)

I have always dreamed about Figbar! (I live about 200 miles away) so it was a special opportunity to go one night with my girlfriend Ang for some lovely food. It was delicious. We brought some home too Thank you.

Undoubtedly one of Norwich gems. I love coming here and enjoying one or two of the lovely cakes on offer. There is always something new to get my mouth watering and eyes sparkling. If you are lucky you may also see photos being taken of their made to order cakes (that they bake for weddings and other occasions) All cakes are baked daily on the premises and you can see the bakers going about their job behind the counter. They have an amazing variety of ready to eat cakes displayed on the counter or if you fancy something special they will make one of their signature desserts to order. Atmosphere here is great. It is probably the dark grey walls and constellation of lights, it bestows a different quality to the space and makes the cakes really stand out. If you are into food photography the cakes really do look great set up against the walls. Only problem I encountered here is to do with not being able to find a table. This being a very small place often there is no space to sit down. However, if you are just after lovely cakes they do offer take away option.

So this is a fancy cake/dessert shop, somewhere you might pop for a coffee and cake during the day and a dessert and nightcap in the evening. The desserts were amazing, unusual and different and very reasonably priced. They suggest wine/port pairings but we had coffee which was very nice. We were in early evening and only two other couples in and service was a little slow it has to be said but worth waiting for! There were several people coming and going with take out cakes while we waited. It is small and not much space and if you don't sit at the window bar table or side wall bar table you will have to share a table with others. If its busy I can imagine it might not be so comfortable as we had it. However, the food more than made up for this! Two plated desserts of exceptionally high standard both in presentation and taste and 2 coffees was £19 something. They do a loyalty stamp card for hot drinks too.

Hubby and I go to the Figbar a few times a year. It never disappoints. Friendly and helpful staff and of course the desserts are amazing!!! Husband chose something "choctastical" (cannot remember the exact name) and said "Those guys are wizards". I had the Bergamia and it felt like poetry in my mouth. Simply DELICIOUS. Go there and try anything. As well as the bigger plates they also do some smaller cakes and bars to be eaten on site or taken away. Everything we have tried has been scrumptious.

visited for cakes and coffee as a dessert. Good quality and speed of service but very limited space and baby buggies/prams in narrow aisles do not make life any easier.

We were out for sushi and had a nice meal elsewhere but we’re still feeling a bit peckish. I’d heard about this place and was a bit trepidatious that it might be a bit fancy for our needs, but we gave it a go and are so pleased we did. It was casual but elegant and really welcoming. My husband had a snickers dessert plate and I had polenta and pistachio cake and a coffee and it was all delicious, and very reasonably priced. So glad we’ve discovered this little gem and can’t wait to introduce other people to it.

Yummy puddings, really good price. Puddings change regularly but they're really good at replying to Facebook if you have any questions.

My last 2 visits had not been good back in October, but I was nearby and thought/hoped that the previous visits had been unusual. I was wrong. Impatient and non engaging service left me feeling cold and unwelcome. The chef was telling someone on the phone to f$@k off and I felt uncomfortable and wished I'd spent my £6.5 in Frank's bar round the corner where the staff are always so lovely. Was disappointed, but the cake was nice.
