A lovely place for a meal or a snack, breakfast or lunch we haven't had dinner here but our breakfast and our lunch were lovely the food is excellent and prepared to perfection the staff are good and kept on their toes as it is a busy wee place there is ample parking and a golf shop for the so inclined it has a good area for children to play in close proximity to your table so its no problem to let the kids have a we adventure with the toys whilst you stuff your face with tea coffee cakes or whatever your heart desires. yummy

We went to The Fig Tree for our girly night. The food was fabulous, we had a vegan in our group and they were extremely helpful in finding something for her, she eventually picked something off the menu. The staff were friendly and helpful. One of our group said it was the best meal she has had in a long time. The decor was a bit basic, but that's the worst thing I can find to say about the place. Lovely.

Thought I better write a review on trip advisor as this is how I first decided on the resturant, I Can't count how many times I have returned to the fig tree! From the service to the food everything is first class. The price is outstanding for the food and never disappoints. One reason I return to the fig tree is the service and smiles from all staff! I am vegetarian and there is plenty of choice for myself whilst my boyfriend finds it hard to choose from so many options! I Would recommend the fig tree to anyone you will not be disappointed.

Although the restaurant was reasonably busy, the service was good, with a large selection of dishes. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, as we had taken advantage of a special deal. The kitchen is fully visible, together with all the chit chat which you hear on the various TV cooking programs. Will go there again for supper.

I have previously reviewed this venue and was pretty positive about it. The food was good and the service was improving. Since then I have been about 8-10 times and things were good. No complaints. Yesterday, 12/08/13, my wife myself and my son went along for a late lunch early dinner at 4.25pm. SORRY WE ARE CLOSED. NOT SERVING FOOD. Seriously. The male waiter turned us away said they were closed till later. In these austere times, if a restaurant can afford to turn customers away then they obviously don't need the custom. Not only does this poor experience effect this visit but it will prevent us returning, and through word of mouth and this review may prevent others from going. No explanation given. No apology. Nothing. Needless to say we went the the hotel next door and spent £50 on our dinner. Money that could have been spent in the Fig Tree.

Me and two mates dropped in for a quick morning roll and a pint before we played the 9 hole course. The two girls working were very friendly and could not have been more helpful. However, I was disappointed as I had ordered a roll with bacon and fried egg and in the location you can see the chefs working away through a hatch. All was fine, I seen the chef taking the bacon out and not long after it was placed on a fresh buttered roll. However, it was over five minutes before my fried egg was to follow and maybe it was because I was starving, but this seemed like an eternity. A staff member brought over two rolls and asked us if there was anything else and we had to point out my roll was still sitting there. When I got my roll the bacon was cold, but I must admit the roll was still nice as they were helped by the fact they use decent quality bacon. Will probably return and hopefully this was a one off because a bacon and egg roll is quite simple to make.

Went to The Fig Tree for lunch with my mum today. Although my mum has been before this was my first visit. I have to agree with the other comments about the appearance from outside, if my mum hadnt have known where she was going I doubt I would have been able to find it!We were served by a lovely girl called Megan, who was efficient, really nice and chatted away with us. We both had the mushroom starter then mum had haddock and I had the burger. My husband and I dined here this evening with 2 of our children and I can't praise it highly enough. Ignore the portacabin exterior, inside is clean, comfortable and bright. The service was great, very friendly and efficient. We sat next to the serving pass and watched everything being cooked from scratch by their very talented chefs. The meal was lovely, the best I've had in a long time! My husband and I had Moroccan Salad (gorgeous freshly made sauce and an exotic tasty salad full of different fruits and lettuces) My oldest daughter had the Moroccan Pasta and said it was delicious (and she's very fussy!!) My 7 year old's "kid's meal" was fantastic, a lovely melon starter with lots of interesting sides and sorbet and fresh chicken goujons for her main course (no chicken nuggets here!!) The deserts looked amazing and we will definitely sample those next time. This restaurant has recently reopened after a fire and may be quite quiet at the moment....but I know it won't be for very much longer!!! We made plans to revisit before we even finished our meal and I'm sure everyone who visits will feel the same way....So book up for a table while you still can! We will certainly be recommending to our family and friends.

I visited this restaurant with 4 friends before going to a wedding reception. We pre booked our table and on arrival, we were greeted warmly and taken to our table. Menu has plenty of options but we opted for the 2 courses for £9.95. I had Moroccan chicken pasta which was beautiful and followed it with stick toffee pudding in a brandy basket with ice cream and a chocolate straw drizzled with plenty if toffee sauce. The other people in my party had Moroccan chicken salad which looked great and followed it with ice cream sundaes!! The food was divine and so much better than the food I had tasted a couple of weeks earlier in the newly opened Si. A quick hint......don't waste your money and go to the fig tree at North Gailes. 5 meals, 5 desserts and 5 soft drinks came to £57.65 and great value for money. As we left we also got a 50% off our next visit for a party of 4 buying off the full price menu.....rest assured, we will be back!!!

Having experienced the old place on many occasion I was glad when I heard it was being rebuilt after the fire. However they replaced the last building with its conservatory and spacious surroundings with a shabby hollow floored portakabin. It lacks atmosphere, it's cold and it looks like the inside of a coal mine cafeteria. That's the down side. The upside is the food. Smaller menu than before but everything I've tried has been excellent. Breakfast, lunch and dinner have all been well made, well presented, and tasted great. The prices too are on par with other local places but the quality of food is far better. The service is ok. Staff are pleasant and cheery but don't write orders down and have consistently brought the wrong drinks, wrong food and one ocassion forgot to even bring any starters we ordered. Given how good the food looked we didn't say anything and just took it. If you can look past the exterior and interior then you'll enjoy it. If I had rated it solely on its food it would have gotten a 4.

The restaurantreminded me of a canteen, nothing like the old place. I also felt it was too small to have one of those open kitchens which seem to be fashionable just now. I find these annoying at the best of times but in a small place I find the noise from the kitchen offputting. The food was excellent but the atmosphere + layout would probably put me off going back

This was one of our favourite places to eat before the terrible fire a couple of years ago and we were delighted to see it up and running again - albeit in less luxurious form. We visited (6 adults and a year old baby) on 3rd January. It was certainly quiet but we liked the decor and ambience even down to the discrete play area which kept our little one entertained between courses. The staff could not have been more pleasant and attentive and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious, well presented and we had good helpings - only two made it to the sweet course! We chose mainly from the Supper Menu with a couple of very tasty dishes from the more expensive Evening Menu but felt all choices gave good value for money. We will definitely be back and will recommend to friends.

Recently re-opened after fire last year the place probably suffers from lack of signage to indicate that it's there. Doesn't immediately strike you as being a restaurant from the outside, but inside it's absolutely fine with well spaced tables and lighting and decor creating a pleasing and cosy atmosphere. The food is still first-class and served up warm and straight from the pan! Would recommend the Apple & Bramble crumble as being one of the top finishes to an excellent meal that I've ever experienced.

Went to the fig tree today not knowing what to expect. On first inspection the temporary building looked ok from the outside, but that was as good as it got. On entering the dining area I was taken a back by how much it looked like crosshouse hospital cafeteriia, dodgy wall art, lime green chairs and just a general cafeteria feel. We waited 4 mins to be seated at the drafty doorway and to me this was a bit unacceptable as there were only 10 tables in but 4 waiting staff present ??? Once seated I timed my exxperience, it took 16 minutes for my order to be taken, and to be honest I wish I had walked out when I first looked at the lackluste and mundane lunch menu. We then waited 15 minutes for 2 toasted cajun chicken ciabbatas and two portions of cajun fries, and please remember there were only 10 tables in and mostly tables of 2. When the food arrived it got worse, the toasted ciabbata was infact an untoasted soggy baguette, with soggy wet chicken with the smallesst hint of cajun, the menu stated crispy bacon but the fat was as crispy as melted chocolate. My partner declared hers unedible but I gave mine a go, but it was horrible. I just couldnt wait to leave. As we sat waiting for our orderr to be taken and food to arrive, we noticed alot of head shaking and apparent dismay from other customers at the bad bad service, one table acctually shouted the waitress down and said can u take our order now please lol. Also didnt like the fact that the ,chefs were,nt wearing any kind of headwear, not good in my opinion. All in all a terrible experience, service horrendous, surroundings horrendous, food horrendous, overrall horrendous. Take my word givve thhis place a miss

Firstly the restaurant is lovely and bright and well laid out. They menu has plenty on it and the lunch menu is a good deal. However that is where the good stops. We waited at the sign to be seated, staff were talking at the bar and after 10 minutes we just had to go up and ask to be seated. The menu is pricey and the bread that came with the prawn cocktail was stale. The buttermilk chicken that came with the salad was rock hard and not that warm. We ordered 2 sets of drinks and both times had to ask where they were. Finally, it's February and the doors were wide open so the place was freezing. There seemed to be plenty of staff but they are just lacking attentiveness and given the price I would expect better.
