Out of season visit to Pitlochry. Lots of shops, cafes closed but Fern Cottage wasn't! Popped in with no booking and enjoyed a very tasty meal in front of the log fire. Great and not too expensive either 😉

What all wonderfull experience! All round from the moment we walked in absolute welcoming, warm and modern atmosphere. Boasting everything there is to love about Pitlochry with friendly, proffessional staff, elegant decor and a comfortable setting. I would highly reccomend Fern Cottage, to all, young and old, family, group bookings or even for a romantic night out. Food was cooked perfectly and one could taste all flavour combinations and fresh local produce shines through exceptionally. There is options to choose from, no matter one's dietary preference, with a extensive wine and drinks list. Overall a fantastic evening out, with great food in a hospitable enviroment!

We ate there on February 17th evening and could not be happier. My boyfriend ate the soup of the day (mixed vegetables) and the roasted duck. I ate the burger. We both drank a glass white wine and he also drank a glass of red wine. We are French picky eaters and loved all the food and the service. The duck melted in the mouth and the burger was the best I had in a long while! The tiramisu was also wonderful! Only negative I would find is having to dip those wonderful fries in bottled mayo instead of homemade. Service was wonderful and the bill was just right! Highly recommend! ♥️

Fern Cottage was a favourite of my partner and myself and this was our first visit under the new owners. We were dubious that a couple of our favourites were no longer on the menu but trusted that the new owners would pull out the stops. To start we had the goats cheese and the haggis, neeps & tatties. Both dishes were portioned perfectly, hot and fresh. A nice little introduction to the meal. For our mains we opted for the venison and the duck. Two quite different dishes. The venison was delicious and clearly cooked with attention. Hearty and rather homely. The duck - I don't eat duck and I've never been a fan, so went for that. I'm so glad I did! This was probably the nicest, most flavoursome dish I've eaten in a long time. The subtle chilli kick with the sweetness from apricot was so mouth watering and moreish. A new favourite! Dessert was as enjoyable as everything before. The sticky toffee pudding was rich and deep, paired perfectly with smooth vanilla ice cream. The cheesecake of the day was white chocolate and hazelnut - I was sold before even trying it. Just beautiful. To top the whole experience off, the service was spectacular. Although it was really busy we were met with nothing but smiles and happiness from all the staff we encountered. We were left alone but checked on comfortably regularly. The owners made a point of checking in too and were lovely. The atmosphere was livelier than we remembered and this came as a nice surprise making it feel more welcoming and allowing us to freely converse without the feeling that the rest of the diners could listen in. Overall, our experience was simply spectacular. We'll be back on the regular and can't wait to swing by for lunch! We wish the new owners every success in their new venture.

A genuine Gem in Pitlochry! We actually planned on visiting a nearby restaurant that evening when we happened to stumble across this place instead and we are so happy we did so! My hubby had the venison and he said it was the best. I wasn't too hungry so I had a couple of vegetarian sides and they where just super tasty. The veg cooked to perfection and just tasty. The sticky pudding was also very delightful. Highly recommend 🙏

On a 0c cold winters night we ventured forth from our accommodation in search of sustenance. Now I’m a rabid carnivore and my wife’s a full on vegan which is problematic when dining out, but the Fearn had an ace up their sleeve. A vegan menu and not just a bean burger! The chef here is extremely talented as each dish couldn’t be improved upon which is truly remarkable given that my wife has cooked amongst the stars if you know what I mean. We will be returning for sure.

Excellent food so pleased we found this place was the best we had in our week trip in Scotland and the woman who served us was amazing thank you!

Beautiful decor, good service with well executed food and correct prices. Dishes are tasty and appetising even if staying with the parameters of local offerings. Wines aren’t overpriced with a reasonable conventional choice. A good list of gin and whisky that will make up for it. A 4.5 star really that cannot be faulted, testy and very enjoyable within a very charming cottage and location, just don’t go out looking for creative gourmet with inspiring beverages

We are vegetarians holidaying in Scotland, it’s difficult to get good food. Fern cottage was a delightful experience as we were taking a lunch break on our way to Edinburg. We ordered an Arrabbiata pasta with potato leek soup, both were delicious. Happy we decided to come here!

This is a nice restaurant with some outdoor seating. We visited whilst on holiday in Scotland. booked on line using Google reserve. It's was quick, easy and problem free. This place seems to get busy after 5pm so advanced reservation is recommended. The staff are prompt, friendly and polite. The dinner menu has a good choice of food and drinks. They seem to be freshly made and of a good quality. The desert wasn't the best but wasn't terrible. Atmosphere is nice. This is an old stone building, decorated In dark colours but the use of lighting makes it comfortable and cosy. Service was good. Prices are moderate, some m ay think they are expensive but you are getting fresh cooked food. A children's menu is available and my daughter loved the fresh fish. Pay and display carpark is avalable a few meters down the road. I would recommend visiting this place if you are in the area.

An amazing restaurant in the middle of Pitlochry. We really appreciated the vegetarian and vegan options (there is a whole vegan section on the menu) and they were delicious. The place is full of character. You can check their prices on their website, mostly around £15-20 per main.

WOW, what an experience! It's totally one of the best meals we have ever eaten in a restaurant. Everything was such high quality, very nicely presented and very tasty. It started with the goat cheese Bon Bons and Tomato soup for starters and continued throughout the meal, just delightful. The manager was amazing, super nice and friendly, also making sure we had the space we needed with the wheelchair. The table was a good height to get the wheelchair under, and disabled access was very easy, through a side door near the disabled toilet. Highly recommended restaurant.

Das Essen war wirklich gut die Bedienung bestand zu 2/3 aus unsicheren Bürschchen, die die Zähne nicht auseinander bekamen. Etwas schwieriger Dialekt..... ich kann es dennoch sehr empfehlen, wir haben es genossen.

Food was absolutely delicious and the service was good but a little bit slow on coming over to ask us what we would like. We had an early dinner so the restaurant was nice and quiet.

I personally thought the food was wonderful, but my husband did not agree. For starters we had the goat cheese bon bons and the smoked salmon. Both were delicious - a good start. I ordered the venison, medium-rare, and it was very tasty and cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the duck, also medium-rare, and it was overcooked and quite disappointing. He didn't want to send it back and reorder because then we would not be having our dinner together. So he put up with it, although he did mention it to the wait staff at one point. As for the wait staff, they did not seem happy at all. Every one who waited on us was completely indifferent... Not one of them seemed happy to be there. And they did not really attempt to meet our needs adequately during the meal - when my husband's drink ran out there was no one around to refill it, and his glass sat empty for a good 10 minutes. We are usually big tippers - even in Britain, where tipping isn't really a thing - but we left less than 3 pounds tip on an 82-pound bill. I would eat here again, but I would not order the duck.

The food we had here was beautiful, lovely atmosphere inside with the option to sit outside if you wish. Poor selection of draught beer, paid £4.75 for Tennents out of a can which is very disappointing, if not for this I'd have given five stars!

Great restaurant, great talking with the owner, lovely food and a great view from my table too. This is a regular favourite of ours every time we spend a day in Pitlochry.

Recently visited the Fern Cottage Restaurant a couple of times with my wife and teenage daughter, plenty of choice on the menu all reasonably priced. Anyone visiting Pitlochry and looking for great food and service to match then I would have no hesitation recommending the Fern Cottage Restaurant.

This was our second visit in 2 weeks so kind of speaks for itself. Great food, freshly cooked and well presented, lovely atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. ......and a big plus point for me are the toilets,...VERY clean and bright. We would thoroughly recommend trying this restaurant the next time you visit Pitlochry......the fish and chips are amazing!

Stayed in Pitlochry for our wedding anniversary - found this amazing little restaurant around the corner from the B&B we were staying in... what can I say... perfect!! Outstanding service from the staff and the food was beyond amazing... Covid guidelines were followed - we felt safe all the way through our visit. The staff were super friendly and attentive - nothing was too much. The food was exceptional - beautiful dishes made with fresh quality ingredients - I can definitely recommend the lamb shank served with ragout and garlic sautéed potatoes...followed by a smooth and silky cheesecake - made a little bit more special with the personal message on the serving plate - quick mention for Heather who served us when we visited - a real asset for any company lucky enough to have her. Well worth a visit if you're in the area - definitely not a place to miss a visit too - we will definitely be going back.

My boyfriend and I were staying at the Blair Castle Caravan Park and decided to visit Fern Cottage for my birthday meal after reading the excellent reviews. Venturing out for our first meal in 6 months after lockdown was very exciting and we most certainly made the right choice.We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome from the host and felt truly spoiled from the moment we sat down. The staff were very attentive, super friendly and making such a big effort to follow all the strict Covid regulations. From the carefully distanced tables, face masks worn at all times and gloves being used when serving your food. The food was completely faultless. The menu is well thought out and there is something for everyone. We shared the mixed platter of olives, bread, tzatziki and feta to start. All delicious and the perfect amount of everything. For mains I chose the chicken kebab with bulgar wheat, tzatziki and Mediterranean sauce. It was so scrumptious and beautifully cooked and presented. My boyfriend chose the lamb shank with garlic sautéed potatoes and Ragout. He thought it was amazing and made with such fresh, quality ingredients. We also shared a side portion of sweet potato fries. They were so tasty, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside! To finish we shared the sticky toffee pudding and 2 cappuccinos! A fantastic way to end our meal! Thank you so much to all the staff for our wonderful dining experience. We will be back!

The staff were very welcoming and friendly, lovely cosy setting, fabulous food. Steak cooked to perfection with all the trimmings, the strawberry/white chocolate cheesecake was so light it can't have contained any calories would definitely recommend a visit..I certainly will be making a return visit.

We went to Fern Cottage last night (20 May). Nice friendly greeting before being shown to oour table. Nice room, good atmosphere. The main courses, venison and duck, were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and good portions. The deserts, lemon and lime cheesecake and homemade rice pudding were fantastic. We are still talking about how good the food is. Our compliments to the chef. He's very talented. Put this on your must visit list!

We found this place by chance and we were very lucky to get a table when we walked in on the off chance. Food was absolutely delicious and I'm so glad I had room for pudding. Lovely venue which is very tastefully decorated. We will definitely be back next time we are in Pitlochry.

We recently stayed in Pitlochry, and found this little gem of a restaurant! Good menu choices with delicious, high quality food- good portion sizes too! Friendly staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere... it was so good that we visited twice!

We have been in the Fern Cottage Restaurant for our wedding anniversary and it was great. The decor of the restaurant gives a very nice atmosphere. The food was delicious and well presented. The service was excellent, staff is very friendly. We enjoyed our visit there and recommend this place to everyone who want to spend some nice time with good food. Visited on the first weekend after lockdown. It was too cold to venture outdoors so we accepted a booze free lunch. Place was very quiet for a Sunday afternooon and we were not sure it was open for lunch. Menu was extensive and lloked more like an evening affair but the very polite and helpful manager on duty offered us any of the soups or starters as light bites. He was extremely courteous and helpful and chatted about the area.Soup was a very generous portion and tasty. The special of breaded calamara was also generous with the portion piled high.. Would recommend and revisit if back in the area.

Well worth a visit. It was too cold to be outside and we knew, due to covid restrictions, we would not be allowed alcohol inside but had great meal nonetheless We both had the scallops to start which were excellent. I had the chicken kebab which was perfect and my wife had the duck which again was very good. Well served by an lovely lady. Could it be better? Too right with a glass or two off wine.

This place is a little hidden gem in the heart of Pitlochry the food is really 5 star quality and really well priced the staff are so attentive and look after your every need. We never caught our waitresses name but she was absolutely fantastic and the food is to die for ........just go go go to this restaurant if you are in Pitlochry you won’t be disappointed..

I did not write the attached review, however, I was part of the party having lunch.Very disappointed that the issues couldn’t have been acknowledged. I can clarify this is 100% the correct restaurant that is being reviewed.Masks were being put back on when they were coming out of the kitchen. The menu doesn’t fully disclose what is in the food (basil came out as pesto) and we were charged for the drink that was returned.When we noticed it on the bill we were told it wasn’t their fault and we would still be charged. Visit date was 5th Sept @ 1pm.Would’ve returned but not now. Real shame.

My wife and I stopped off at Pitlochry on the first night of our road trip to Scotland last month. We hadn't booked anywhere for dinner so we called in Fern Cottage on the off-chance of getting a table.A good choice as we had a very good meal with decent service - certainly not aggressive (see Winston 93 post).The poached salmon was delightful.

We had our anniversary meal in Fern cottage.The standard was excellent we had 2 courses each and a bottle of wine for £70.I am coeliac so always like to recommend safe places to eat.A nice touch with the small gift on the way out.

Después de pasar una semana en Pitlochry, pudimos disfrutar de una comida realmente buena, sin embargo, nuestra cena en Fern Cottage se destaca como la mejor comida que tuvimos. El servicio fue excelente, muy atento y eficiente, la señora que nos atendió (con el pelo rojo y rizado) fue muy amable e informativa sobre el menú e hizo algunas recomendaciones excelentes. No me puedo quejar de la comida, el menú es más pequeño que en otros lugares cercanos, pero parece que hacen cada plato de manera excelente. Teníamos entrantes, platos principales y postres y disfrutamos de cada bocado. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo a nuestro regreso a Pitlochry.

Experiencia terrible. La camarera nos sirvió una bebida plana y luego nos cobró tanto por eso como por el reemplazo. Cuando se le señaló, la camarera se volvió extremadamente agresiva. La comida estaba bien, quizás un 5/10, pero nunca había experimentado un servicio al cliente tan pobre. Pudimos ver claramente que se quitaban las máscaras para ir a la cocina.

Escondido en la calle principal, este restaurante es una joya. Aunque el menú parece ser muy limitado, lo que ofrecen es de primera clase y recién preparado. Habíamos empanado Haggis con salsa de mostaza seguido de venado en salsa de pimienta rosa. En el momento de nuestra visita, se aplicaron restricciones de Covid y el restaurante hizo todo lo posible para que se sintiera seguro, es decir. mesas bien separadas, todo el personal con mascarillas, cada vez que alguien usaba el baño, una señora limpiaba todas las superficies.

En la calle principal de Pitlochry, pasamos por este lugar varias veces y es posible que haya sido el menú relativamente corto lo que no me atrajo para la cena. . . tal vez una parada para almorzar? La gente parecía estar disfrutando de las mesas al aire libre en el lugar mientras caminábamos bajo el sol.Una noche dejamos un lugar cercano donde la comida había sido excelente pero ¡me sirvieron el pescado en una tabla de pan de madera! La tarta de queso fue un sueño y el vino NZ Sauvignon Blanc fue un gran acompañamiento. 10/10 de nuestra parte!

We visited this restaurant on Friday night, although the menu is limited the food was very good. Staff were very pheasant and good COVID measures in place. Prices are good for the quality of food provided. Well worth a visit.

Aunque no tenían constancia de nuestra reserva, lo cual fue decepcionante, nos ofrecieron una mesa y tuvimos una comida maravillosa con muy buen servicio. El menú era variado y adecuado para los dos, lo cual no siempre es posible. Lo recomendaría y volvería a comer aquí cuando estemos al lado de la zona.

Visitamos Fern Cottage para mi 30 cumpleaños y ¡qué delicia! La comida era deliciosa (¿ir por el pato?) Y el servicio fue extremadamente amable y atento. Hubo un pequeño problema cuando mi papá pidió un café con licor: el personal obviamente no sabía cómo hacer uno y al principio solo trajo el licor y luego, cuando finalmente apareció, básicamente era todo espuma. Sin embargo, mi padre agradeció que lo intentaran a pesar de que no estaba en el menú y no nos cobraron. Las medidas de COVID que tenían nos hicieron sentir muy a gusto. Este fue mi segundo viaje a Fern Cottage y no me decepcionó: la comida era tan deliciosa como recordaba y definitivamente volveremos.

We had a meal at Fern Cottage and it was delicious. The menu is fairly limited but our choice of calamari and chicken kebabs was perfect.

Couldn't ask for a better restaurant for a Saturday night meal in Pitlochry. Breaded haggis, venison and gorgeous cheesecake for me and my partner had the duck (she eats a lot of duck) but the duck dish was a love of hers. Clean, tidy and spacious restaurant. Attentive, pleasant and welcoming staff all following covid 19 guidance impeccably which was much appreciated. Will definitely pay another visit and if you're in the area and like great food, give this place a visit.

Wife and I stopped here on a walk for a drink and cake. Fern Cottage enjoys a favoured location overlooking the civic garden and it is an attractive building in its own right. When we asked what cakes they had it was either chocolate or berry muffin. No scones or gateaux. OK they could maybe say that they're first and foremost a restaurant but the lack of choice was disappointing. We got the impression our server would have been cheerier if we had been ordering lunch (in spite of the fact that it was 3.15 pm). My flat white coffee came in a glass cup which was actually less than half full by volume, and a third of that was the foam. the coffee was nice, but what's wrong with filling the cup to the top? My wife had to ask twice for her glass of water. If people have a god experience drinking a "mere" coffee, then they're likely to want to come back and experience a meal. But on the showing, sorry......

Just had a meal 2 nights ago at the Fern Cottage & it was absolutely delightful. My daughter needs gluten free veggie food which is not always that easy to come by for something a bit different & the Fern Cottage came up trumps both the dishes we got were veggie & gluten free & were very delicious . My daughter also managed a gluten free brownie to finish off. The staff were very lovely & tentative. Well done Fern Cottage

Dinner with friends whilst visiting Pitlochry. The food was excellent, we all had a different main meal and each of them were excellent. The interior is a bit drab and would benefit from a revamp. Friendly staff and good service.

Came here as a family of 3. Food 1st class in my opinion. I had the duck which was divine and the Chefs cheesecake which was truly delicious! They do good childrens sized meals not too over facing and to good quality. Lovely restaurant inside and good service.

Excellent meal and great service, a bit pricey but with par in surrounding area. Visited during restrictions so floor area divided, lovely place spotlessly clean.

Stopped in for a meal with my wife. Nice and quiet midweek. Starters of goats cheese bon bons and fishcake were delicious and quickly devoured. A slight wait for the mains of salmon and venison. 2 empty plates later, fried leeks accompanying the salmon were very moreish! Couldn't resist pudding, lime and 3 Berry cheesecake, very smooth, could melt like ice cream, and the Belgian waffle with coconut ice cream and maple syrup. Yum. A total of 6 empty plates later, lovely time had and good service. Would recommend and would definitely visit again.

Had dinner at Fern Cottage last night (29 February). Lovely restaurant and excellent food. The spicy lamb melted in your mouth. Great choice in menu and the presentation of the meal was excellent. Friendly staff. Would strongly recommend to any Pitlochry visitors or locals - a great find! Hope to come back!

We visited as 2 couples, it was quite quiet for a Saturday night. Restaurant is lovely. Nice drink selection. Chose fishcakes for starter which were lovely. 2 of us had the chicken kebab for main, it was gorgeous. Really tasty and very filling. 2 had the venison which was tasty but a bit tough (despite being served medium rare as advised).However would try again and hoping this was just a one off.

We have ate in this restaurant a few times whilst visiting Pitlochry and every time the food has been perfect..On this occasion we visited on the Saturday evening ..We were welcomed warmly into the restaurant and as it was very quiet we could choose where we wanted to sit... Our food was first class I had chicken with garlic and my husband had venison ( the best cooked venison hes had in a long time.) Everything presented well and piping hot... you just know that it is freshly cooked... I finished with the best tasting lemon and lime cheesecake ever....All in I would reccomend that you give this lovely little restaurant a try you wont be disappointed as it beats a lot in pitlochry that just serve up heated frozen food..Hope to visit again soon...

My husband am I are on holiday in Scotland and staying at a local hotel, we visited Fern Cottage tonight (Sunday), for dinner. There was a steady flow of customers whole we were there, so had a nice atmosphere. We were seen to and served quickly and the food was absolutely lovely. I had the fishcake for starter and chicken kebab for main. My husband ate the haggis bonbons and the venison. The kebab was by far my favourite meal I've eaten so far on our holiday. The meat and vegetables were so tasty and the bulgar wheat made me want to cook it myself at home! We didn't eat dessert as the portions sizes were great. The single male member of staff handled everything and everyone wonderfully. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I was only disappointed I didn't have any cash to leave a a tip!

Since finding this restaurant we always eat here when in Pitlochry because the food, service and surroundings are much better than anywhere else we've been in the area. We had the pre- theatre menu and each chose the cod fish cakes then venison. The potion size was just right and the food was cooked to perfection, both courses were delicious. After a break we decided we couldn't leave without a dessert so we had the Christmas pudding - lovely. Great value for the money, a real gem. We will be back.

First time here. It was a Wednesday night, so very quiet. But that made no difference to the attention we received. Food was excellent and would not hesitate to to go again.

Walking past fern cottage restaurant it looked very welcoming, so we went in to try. The service was brilliant, the food and presentation was sublime. This was for my wife’s birthday so I was over the moon how the evening went. Would highly recommend !

Comimos un buen salmon con rissoto a la parmesana , un plato muy rico de pasta con rucula y crema chanpiñones,y un plato de pollo a la plancha muy rico con pure de patatas verduras y crema de champiñones. This restaurant has been freshened up and now is cosy and welcoming. Great menu and the food was excellent. Really yummy cheesecake. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Would highly recommend to anyone.

We were staying in pitlochry for the October break and came here for dinner. Very busy time to go because of the Enchanted forrest. We ordered from the set menu. The starters, main and desserts were fantastic. Would definitely eat here again.

We'd booked our meal here & were seated immediately. There was a large family at the next table who were quite loud which made conversation a bit difficult at our table. The food was good but, could've been hotter. Decent portion sizes & service.

I had some trouble looking for a good vegetarian option in some parts of Scotland, but the grilled vegetable kebab platter exceeded my expectations. The bulgur was pretty much cooked to perfection. It was absolutely delicious and one of the best meals I've had on my trip. Their homemade tiramisu is also very good!

Experiencia decepcionante desde el principio. Mal servicio y atención del personal. ¡Esperamos más de 40 minutos para recibir nuestra comida y cuando llegó, se habían olvidado de nuestro entrante! La comida era normal y definitivamente no vale la pena el precio. Por suerte, el vino era bueno. Mejores lugares para visitar en la zona.

We eat here every year before we go to The Enchanted Forest. Our meal last night was again delicious and the staff were all lovely. Thank you!

Booked after confirming that my companion's severe food allergies could be coped with. Staff were thoughtful, checked menu items and were really welcoming and helpful.

Been going for years. Lovely staff but food average. Smallest scallops (3 the size of maybe a 10p piece) ever seen as was sweet. Would maybe give another go.

We dropped in here on an overnight stay in pitlochry. We had tried other restaurants but all were fully booked. We hadn't reserved but were lucky to get a table. I had soup to start with. The wife had roast beef with gluten free sauce which was very tender. I had a steak with all the trimmings. Compliments to the chef it was cooked to perfection.I finished off with sticky toffee pudding. All our food was excellent and between each course it was a comfortable waiting time. We found the prices very expensive compared to other restaurants. For quality we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We could not get a table at our hotel or the Theatre so booked Fern Cottage and it was a fabulous choice. Good choice even on the pre theatre menu and the full menu has tempted us to return next time we are in Pitlochry. Friendly service and reasonable prices completed the evening.

My wife and I were Pitlochry for a few days and had dinner twice in Fern Cottage. The service was friendly and welcoming with the menu being wide-ranging with an emphasis on Scottish produce. Over the two nights I had the salmon and the venison which were both beautifully cooked with delicious trimmings. I can particularly recommend the cheese board which has a nice selection of Scottish cheeses. It's a comfortable restaurant with a very attractive decor and, even when busy, you don't feel crowded in by others.
