Faros Greek Restaurant in New Forest

I love this little place! We travel about 30 minutes to eat here about three times a year and it's always been spectacular. He usually we end up with the gyro platter cuz that's just what we know and like. But this time we tried the meat platter for two for some variety and it was outstanding! Couldn't believe how much meat there was probably could have fed three or even four people! We brought enough leftovers home for another two dinners! Everything was outstanding and it was really a great variety of all the different meats they have. Would highly recommend this place however make sure you make reservations. They are very small inside and are typically always busy unless you come way before the peak dinner hours.

Ordered for a large party for takeout and the food was just as great as when dining in. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Greek food. 5 star all the way! Thank you.

Nothing worth ordering again. Humus comes the size of a small scoop. Seafood salad with 1 shrimp, Greek salad just chunks of feta and no real flavor. Meat portions were good but 5/10 taste wise. 1 pita for multiple dishes.

Nice cozy little Greek restaurant in a strip mall, I assume it is family run and the food seems quite authentic, just not 100% in my taste preferences. The menu is in both Greek and English for an authentic experience, and they also serve imported Greek soda I assume. The server was very attentive and the lamb platters were tasty. Not too big of the fan of the lemon potatoes, maybe the Greek fries would have been a better option.

Had lunch with friends, got the salad with crab heimpand shrimp no taste and one shrimp on the salad.When I asked the ownership said yes one shrimp. My friends were also disappointed.

Top notch homemade traditional Greek meals. Sit down for a great meal with quiet atmosphere or order take-out for lunch. Bring it home or to the park. Stays hot n fresh ingredients used. I eat with my eyes 👀 first then my nose. Beautiful looking platters, the smell makes it hard to wait to get to your destination to eat it. My 2go spot for Gyros and kebobs with rice... Owners friendly and very helpful if your not familiar with Greek food they'll explain it so you know exactly whats in the dish. ☆☆☆☆☆👌

They open 11 closed on Monday there beef and lamb Gyros wrap with Greek fries are awesome less than $10 the best gyro I ever ate.

The lamb chops and the lemon potatoes. They are out of this world.

the food is always fresh and delicious, and the people here are amazing also good service n experience I love there olive oil and the homemade coffee amd the baklava omg !!!!

I like the food, last few times we went we got falafel with tzatziki sauce which is pretty original.and quite yummy. Their bread with olive spread is great as well. I really enjoyed stuffed pepper and stuffed tomato for main course. The salad with shredded chicken is great as well. The gyro meat on pita is great but it might have gotten smaller lately. Anyway, like the place and the people working there.

Terrific Greek restaurant with also a small collection of Greek groceries, i.e. olive oil. The moussaka was fantastic, worth trying.

Went there for lunch special and ordered the eggplant special. There's only ONE slice of grilled eggplant (appetizer portion at best). It's tasty but not out of this world. Portion is too small for the price. Dessert was not bad. Bread was stale. I had a lot of Greek food in the past including trying many restaurants in Astoria. I think the restaurant is okay. It is clean and has the typical items on the menu but should serve a better portion for the price paid.

The food and service was great. It was my first time here.. Sometimes food is oversalted to hide its lack of flavor..not here. I recommend anyone who wants to taste food properly seasoned and delicious to go here.

I recently came here with a few of my close friends we ordered the lemon chicken soup and the chicken Gyro and it was delicious!

It's good solid Greek Food. One comment though, if your going to make a Greek Salad add grape leaves and Anchovies. How does a Greek place not have Anchovies.. Love the owner they are great and food is above average

A little pricey but A LOT good. Hummus and chips were not 1/2 bad. Their Spanakopita appetizers are awesome, and I kinda want to steal their Baklava recipe, They had a rustic rice and chicken kebab with a light dill-yogurt-onion as well as Tzatziki sauce that was awesome.

Amazing and delicious! Not only did the food taste of everything I hoped, the portion size was so large that one meal will be at least two maybe three! This place is hitting my list of regular haunts. Its small and only has a few tables, so call ahead and enjoy!!!!

Simply amazing! One of my favorite greeek food spots.

Small place, seats about 30. Very good food. Wonderful staff who will take the time to explain any menu item, if you are unfamiliar. The Mixed Grill for two was great and can feed a family of four, with leftovers. They also sell some Greek specialty items, like coffee, olive oil, grape leaves, halva and pastries.

Beef and lamb gyro were awesome but the chicken gyro was bruttaly dry. Greek salad was huge and delicious.

I was there today to take my Dad out for Father's Day lunch. We were a party of 5 and all of us loved our food. There are a few tables inside and the restaurant is nicely decorated. Our highlights were the saganaki, roasted beets and the lamb gyro platters. The portions are very generous.

The food is always delicious. My sister and I look forward to eating here as often as we can. Maryjo, her husband, mom and staff are all wonderful and welcoming.

First time ordering from here, I'm Greek and it's hard to find good greek food without me or my family cooking it! Lol but I was having my family over for my birthday and i decided not to cook and order out.. Well from the time i called and placed my order, what a pleasant experience... friendly and courteous! I ordered 3 youvetsi (lamb shank in orzo) a chicken souvlaki platter and 2 lamb souvlaki platter, served with the lemon potatoes! Yummm! I also ordered 2 horiatki salads and they were perfect! The right amount of feta cheese too and fresh! Thank you! My family enjoyed it, I have already told my friends and I will be back !! Efharisto🇬🇷

Wow! We live 1 1/2 hours away and we’ve been here a few times! BY FAR, THE BEST and most authentic Greek food we’ve had anywhere - except in Greece! Whether it’s their salads, moussaka, tzatzaki, or any of their other dishes (which I can’t pronounce or spell!), we’ve been thrilled with our choices! If you haven’t eaten there, go there! Close your eyes and you are in Greece!!!

Excellent, authentic Greek food. I've tried many Greek places in central NJ, and this is by far the most authentic. Like I'm eating my Greek mother's meals. Great vegetarian/vegan choices: soups, gigantes, dolmas, salads, lemon potatoes, etc.

Horrible people ... I went to order a salad and asked some questions. The young lady who was taking orders was running around in a panic mode. She screamed for help from the kitchen. An old lady come out running and had no manners. She gave judgmental looks, sounded rude and was not helpful. Neither of them stood for a second and answered politely. They may be overwhelmed but that shouldn’t be the customers problem. I refused to order because of their worst behavior and left the place. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Clearly they need more staff and need to learn some customer service.

My client did not like the food there.

So delicious... I dont come around this area too often but when I do, I make sure to get me the lunch special, chicken souvlaki meal 😋

If you aren't eating at Faros, you're missing out of some of the best food Monroe has to offer. The mixed grill platter is tremendous and they don't skimp on the meat at all. The appetizers are all delicious and the baklava is huge. Definitely recommend going and/or ordering out from them!

Excellent cuisine. I've ordered from them twice so far. I have been to Astoria, I have been to Manhattan, ... THIS IS THE BEST Mediterranean food I've had. I tried their chicken gyro, lemon potatoes, the imported fish. ALWAYS fresh and simply perfect. They've won my heart and I'll keep going back whenever I am in the area.

Great fast service and very tasty gyros. We only had take out but while waiting for our food the sit down service, although limited, the dishes looked beautiful and plentiful well plated and service was very professional. We will definitely return again.

Ordered the grilled lamb $28.00 which came with one side. Not impressed. The lamb chops were dry and not well seasoned barely any oregano on it. The lemon potato lacked lemon and oregano. It was not tasty. It was a takeout order. For $28.00 they could have provided a small Greek salad and bread. Just a suggestion.

Tasteless raw falafel with sweet peanut dip....it was awful and depressing. My husband had beef and lamb gyro... It was just ok....not that great. In covid times, we rarely eat outside food and then if we get such food,, it is so annoying. Spoiled evening.

Really good food. I haven't had much Greek food in my life, so I'm not sure about the authenticity, but if you're looking for a relatively quick bite while steaming down the turnpike, this is the place to go. Whatever appetizers you get, it's always a good idea to also get the greek salad. Furthermore, the branzino with the lemon potatoes is delicious.

The owners are very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend a visit to enjoy their authentic Mediterrenean cuisine.

Very Tasty, Well priced food. Everyone left full. Service was good as well. If i had one complaint was the setup of the tables, the space is small and they have filled it to the brim with tables and chairs for customers, problem is that isn't conductive to table conversation or speaking to your dinner companions

Delicious and great variety of authentic Greek food. It's a BYOB, so bring a nice bottle of wine. Greek wine is amazing if you can find a bottle. Quaint little place, so make sure to get there early or make reservations. Amazing dips, I'm especially a fan of the tzatziki and taramasalata. Gyro platter and the lamb shank fricassee are great too.

I’ve gone here a few times before and it was enjoyable, however, last night was terrible. I chose to go here with three family members for a get together. The food was so so but the worst was how we were so rushed. The owners were clearly having a leisurely sit down at the next table while our waitress was basically treating us like a fast food table . I’m so sorry that I chose this place. I will not be going back and won’t be recommending it any longer.

We had eaten here before and it was good but this time, after having reserved a table on Christmas eve, we turned up and it was closed. Now, I know a lot of restaurants close early or don't open at all on Christmas eve, so I checked that Faros would be open. I confirmed the booking a few days before hand and I received a confirmatory email. So, having had no reply when I complained, nothing for it but a one-star review- Trip Advisor won't accept no-star reviews.

Visited for dinner and enjoyed a delicious and authentic Greek meal. Great location right on the beach, although the weather was unfortunately not kind when I visited. I can imagine this is especially beautiful in the summer months. The food was exceptional and the service was also very good. It was quite quiet when we visited but I can imagine you'd have an even better evening if there was more atmosphere.

Very good Greek food. The gyro was what you want from a real one, lamb with good sauce. Spinach pie was good, spicy pepper appetizer was excellent if not very spicy. Homemade cookies were very good as well. Some things were done a little differently than I have seen before, but overall a good experience. I will go back

Sorry to say not the best Greek restaurant I have been to, My wife's food was so bland she could not eat it, the owner tried by taking her to the kitchen and showing her how it was made, did not make the food any better, and still charged us for it, they did offer a free dessert. Would have been a better offer to remove it from the bill.

We stopped here off the NJ turnpike, about 6 minutes each way. The food was good. Lemon soup with orzo was fantastic. Service was very friendly and nice. There seemed to be a lot of regulars known by the staff. I hope it's here next time we need lunch in central NJ.

We have eaten here previously, but were disappointed on Saturday. The venue lacks ambiance in the evening...why isn't there a stronger Greek theme? The food was ok, but not that inspiring....

Homemade hummus like no other 😋

Thought we would try this restaurant as there are no Greek restaurants locally. I was hoping for a positive review but unfortunately the food was very bland and both the main courses we ordered were Luke warm and lacking the Greek feel . I suppose if you don't eat greek food you might enjoy the idea of trying it here but having eaten in many Greek restaurants I'm afraid this place fell short . The staff were friendly and it is reasonably priced but the food needs to impress being in such a nice location. It would be a shame if this restaurant goes the same way as a few of the previous ones that have occupied this site .

Really lovely food, friendly service, efficient, well priced. What a find! Would highly recommend. Worth the drive from Bournemouth as it's much nicer than some of my local Greeks that have been around for years.
