Best sushi I have tasted, so fresh , i ordered the soft shell crab and my husband the chicken bento box. Staff are lovely & polite and the decor of the restaurant is very modern and clean , will return for the evening menu

We waited 30 mins for our main of chicken Katsu. I looked at the plate and was horrified. The sauce tasted like chip shop curry. We really did not enjoy it.We told the girl at the till and it was taken of our bill. So very disappointed as this was my first time in Japanese restaurant

Etsu always delivers the perfect night. Relaxed dining, friendly service and beautiful food - looks and taste wise. Such good value for both the quality of the food and drink. Thank you for another wonderful evening.

Honestly phenomenal - a consistently brilliant standard from a multi award-winning restaurant. Every dish is prepared and served with exquisite care and the flavours are just to die for. There's something for every palate and price range, but we always save up a bit of money before we come because we just want EVERYTHING. :) Precisely the same standard of food, drink, presentation and hospitality as you would get in Japan, too, which obviously is a tall order! Huge credit to the hardworking staff for making every experience memorable. ありがとうございます!

We came for my friends 30th birthday which was meant to be a special night with her close friends and family, when we got our starter of a selection of different things to share, I was very disappointed and shocked to see that the chicken was raw once I had bit into it and swallowed the chicken, mortified to say the least.This completely put us off our main course so we cancelled the mains and left the restaurant ruining our night as everywhere was fully booked so unable to get a table to eat anywhere. Very upsetting.

I’ve been to Estu many times over the last few years and their food has really gone down hill. The Seabass and salmon mains leave a lot to be desired. Just two different types of fish drenched in store bought sauce. You can tell the sushi isn’t made by oriental chefs. The mochi ice cream was like it had been in the freezer for 500 years. No oriental touch whatsoever. Just overall disappointing.

I've been missing proper sushi, so when I spotted Etsu on TripAdvisor, I booked a table. The roadworks around Liverpool and my outdated satnav meant we arrived half an hour late, but that was not a problem. The restaurant was as full as it was permitted to be under covid19 restrictions and everything was carefully managed. I ate my fill of traditional sushi, the fish of excellent quality and freshly prepared. My wife enjoyed a Tonkatsu curry. We will certainly be back.

Stunning food. Beautifully flavoured. Perfectly cooked. Possibly one of the best meals out we have had for a long time. We are already planning to come back

We visited Etsu on the first night of our staycation. It was a great decision! We LOVE Japanese food and sushi but it is so hard to find a good restaurant. Then we found Etsu! Absolutely fantastic sushi, the fish tasted like....fish...not like some tastless mush which we've experienced elsewhere before! We also had the Tonkatsu and Gyoza - amazing! The restaurant is spotlessly clean, COVID-19 measures in place and the staff are lovely! Etsu is definitely worth the visit!

Fantastic Japanese cousin prepared to perfection. Great presentation of the dishes, fantastic authentic ambiance and great staff. Had a fantastic dinning experience and this restaurant is highly recommended.

We really found this by accident as it is near the hotel where we were staying. The reviews were good so, as big fans of Japanese food, we gave it a go. Nice room, good service, really good food and reasonable prices. If we lived in Liverpool, we'd go back!

The food here was amazing, great customer service, lovely atmosphere, just all round one of my favourite restaurants I’ve been to in Liverpool so far. Definitely want to go back here as soon as possible, tiny bit more expensive than the kind of places I usually go to as a student but definitely worth it especially for a special occasion.

I dropped by on the off chance and was lucky enough to get a table outside . Being on your own on business can be a tad boring but boy did the food make up for it . Super fresh and beautifuly presented. Thanks

Etsu is the best original Japanese restaurant in northwest England hands down.. real authentic Japanese cuisine,, sushi is fantastic..its not a tepanyaki, its an old school Japanese kitchen.. the service is amazing also.. highly recommended

Mi novio y yo visitamos por mi cumpleaños, había querido visitar por un tiempo y sinceramente desearía haberlo hecho antes. La comida era simplemente increíble l, pedimos a Yakitori y Karaage para comenzar, el karaage era tan jugoso que era increíble. Luego tuvimos una selección de nigiri, maki y bollos que eran tan buenos que tuve que pedir una segunda ración de maki de mayonesa de atún, estaba tan bueno. No pudimos decidir qué postre comer, todos sonaban muy bien, así que teníamos 3 que eran muy buenos. El personal era encantador, especialmente nuestra camarera, no entendimos su nombre pero ella fue muy educada, nunca muy lejos si necesitábamos algo y realmente feliz y sonriente. El ambiente era genial y, sinceramente, ya no podría recomendar este lugar. Uno de los mejores en Liverpool y el mejor sushi que he probado, ¡mejor que cualquiera que haya probado en Japón!

Fui con un grupo de parejas, no tuvimos la mejor recepción, tuvimos que encontrar nuestro propio camino a la mesa. Esperé unos 20 minutos para tomar una bebida (sin alcohol) La comida estaba bien (comí curry, que era estándar. Creo que el susshi es bueno)Hubo una confusión con nuestro pedido al que el camarero no fue muy cortés, lo que significaba que ciertas personas de nuestro grupo se conformaban con comida que no habíamos pedido. El camarero se acercó a nosotros cerca del final de nuestra comida para decirnos que no hablemos tanto. Éramos un grupo de parejas charlando y pasándolo bien, ¿no en lo más mínimo ruidoso o ruidoso? ¿Nunca he estado en un restaurante y me han dicho que guarde silencio? Era un sábado por la noche, bastante normal para disfrutar de la compañía de los demás en la mesa. No volvería ya que me sentí bastante ofendido por un miembro particular del personal.Primera y última vez, lamentablemente.

No need many words to say about that marvelous Typical Japanese Restaurant. Best Sushi...Sashimi...Nigiri...Uramaki and other on the menu! Service very efficient and friendly! Is a place to be all the time! Value for money.

Sushi was great. Definitely recommend coming here for the sushi. The chicken katsu was a dry without any curry with it. Love the presentation of the food.

I came with my partner for a night off cooking. Their seared tuna is perfection, you can tell a lot of love goes into every dish. A must try for any sushi lover in Liverpool.

Don't miss out on this place, it's immense. Starters, mains, deserts, drinks and staff are all top notch. Salivating flavours, beautiful presentation and lovely environment. This little place is what all restaurant's should be aspiring to.

Run by a Japanese couple, the cuisine served is genuine Northern Japanese. Ingredients are fresh and service quite prompt, although the popularity and large seating area does stretch the staff a bit. Not a place to have a quick one.While the sashimi is fresh, they are not premium cuts as one would expect in a specialist restaurant but they will satisfy anyone who likes Japanese.

Very good experience all night. The food was superb , as was the service. We tried the sushi, starters and main courses, all exceptional. The waiters are attentive without being in your face, to finish off the asahi draught is fantastic.

Cute aesthetics and lovely atmosphere. Staff was friendly and food arrived without waiting too much. Overall quality of the food is great, though prices to portion ratio might be a little less than you think. This is for certain dishes as mine was pretty big!

Haven't had chance to visit for sometime, and it was as good as we remembered. The Japanese Gins are very nice addition as is the craft beer. Food was elegantly presented and delicious, the eel was a highlight. Never pretentiuos, excellent family style ambiance and good value. We wont leave it so long to return again, a great evening

I have visited quite a few times now and am never disappointed. The food is always served quickly, and I have never had a bad meal. The restaurant continues to thrive since its expansion and has added lots of excellent new drinks, such as sparkling sake.

Food is fantastic, authentic and tasty. Staff are polite. Prices are fair. This restaurant used to small before it's expansion last year. It's got a lovely traditional feel to it and is decorated with Japanese ornaments, decorations. One of the best Japanese in Liverpool.

Visited Etsu a few times over the summer and each time it did not disappoint. The food is always fresh and delicious. The staff are friendly and the price is reasonable. Sitting outside in the summer is lovely. One part I particular liked was the large selection of Japanese Gin available.

They have a new larger layout which is great but the restaurant has not lost its ambience. We had a selection of different dishes, see photos, all of the food was delish. Service friendly, smiley and attentive. Bit of a wait for the sushi to be served but it was worth the wait. Fab.

Etsu is a favourite of mine, I have visited her multiple times and it never fails to disappoint. Came here last week for their lunch time menu. Perfect as always and staff so friendly!

Came here for lunch with several friends and thought the food was amazing. We took advantage of the Christmas menu which offers two course for around £12.95. The vegetable fried dumplings and pork fillet were excellent. The choice of beers and spirits were great and I look forward to going back to sample more of the menu.

We booked here at the last minute for a family meal. The food and service was excellent. We had three starters between us, mixed tempura vegetarian dumplings and the chicken skewers. Excellent starters and while they were a little small portion wise the taste was excellent.

Me and a friend went to Etsu on 07/11/2019. This is a place I usually come back to atleast once a year.. and this year was extraordinary!! The entirety has been renovated to provide a more spacious inside with more seats, comfy seats and a variety of places on where you can sit i.e. near a window, near the sushi chefs at the counter etc.

My partner, toddler, baby and I stayed at the Stay City, waterfront and needed to find somewhere to eat...we initially decided going to Albert dock but I spotted Etsu’s sign as we were walking past (it’s right opposite Stay City apartments!!) and decided to go there after a tiring day.

Food here is always exceptional! Also, the food comes out quickly; which is not common with food of this calibre. Great stuff Etsu! The team are welcoming and friendly. Visited three times in the last few months so happy to easily recommend this place.

We shared the Sushi Mix set some Nigrini Set. Both really tasty. Tried the ginger thing for the first time which was a game changer.

This restaurant offers really good selection of Japanese food. It is not particularly cheap but the food is good and the service is perfect. Recommended if you like Japanese food.

My partner and I have been coming here for months and every visit has been perfect. We've tried multiple things across the menu, from all of the sushi to ramen and katsu, and its always been the best we've had. The staff have been attentive, lovely and polite every visit and we love seeing them. Cant recommend enough.

We arrived half an hour late as a group of 9 because I had noted the wrong time by accident. The staff were so accommodating about it and it was a complete non issue. For such a big group booking I was highly impressed. Our server never stopped smiling and was always there when we needed her.

Lovely food, the staff are very friendly & it's always immaculate inside. Tried my first proper sushi here and it is just amazing, the sake dish with sticky rice and terriyaki sauce is my favourite and the side salad that comes with it is amazing. Perfect for a lightbite with some drinks or full starter and main there's loads to choose from - New favourite place Thanku Etsu !

Visitamos por recomendación. El personal no era demasiado amigable con miradas muertas e interacción directa y directa. La comida estaba bien pero nada especial. La ensalada de acompañamiento era poco original y desequilibrada, los platos principales de agemono y donburi eran muy salados y el tofu y tempura al estilo agedashi estaban empapados y la masa flácida se caía. Los encurtidos estaban deliciosos. El menú de bebidas es fantástico. En resumen, no puedo recomendar este lugar. Tal vez los atrapamos en una noche libre o son más conocidos por el sushi, pero no me impresionó.

Went here for a birthday meal for my brother. There is nothing I can fault about Estu from the moment you walk in the door everything is class. The food is superb and the staff will help you with any questions you have about the menu. I had sushi for the first time with help from the waitress. I can also recommend the Japanese ice cream with green tea cake. I have also visited at lunchtime and had the Bento box again great food. This is not my first visit to Estu and won't be my last.

Quite simply one of the best Japanese restaurants I have visit outside of Japan. Authentic quality food.

Came with my elderly mum and Liverpool friend. All novices at Japanese food but menu was easy to follow and staff lovely. We shared pork gyoza, which were so light but deeply flavoured, edamame beans and Japanese style kimchi together going. Then sushi/sashimi platter for me, chicken karage and prawn and vegetable tempura for the others. All delicious and so well cooked. We were there early evening and the place was busy with that lovely him and a well run restaurant where people are enjoying themselves. If it’s your thing there is a list of interesting gins and whiskies - we tried a couple of the fins which were fab. If I lived in Liverpool I would come here every week - if I worked here the lunchtime bento boxes would be my bad day reviver!

Visiting for a weekend for my birthday from Newcastle, and this was the best Japanese food I have ever had! Service was friendly, attentive, and quick. We were made to feel welcome from start to finish. Make sure you reserve a table or get there early so you aren’t disappointed as this was a very popular place on a Saturday evening.

Best Japanese food ive has outside Japan. It really was delicious. I was a real fan of the Japanese gins we had to accompany our meal.

As I have never been to Japan but had plenty of Japanese food, this is by far the nicest we have ever eaten.

The food is great (we tried the sushi, gyoza and katsu-don), the staff is very friendly. Good atmosphere, good choice of music (Ghibli movies soundtracks !) and decoration. Will definitely come back !

I felt the food was OK but nothing to rave about. A member of our party was disappointed with the Tonkatsu - found it was tough and dry. That said, the sushi was delicious. Staff are lovely and go out of their way to deliver a great customer service.

I have always liked Etsu. There is a proper sense of everyone wants to look after you as the customer and they want to produce and serve you high quality Japanese food! The tempura is light and crispy, the sushi is delicate and fresh and the unagi donburi was flavourful and soft! Some sake to wash it down and a glass of asahi. Wouldn't go to any other Japanese restaurant if I wanted to impress! Come here!!

This was my first sushi experience and I'd definitely recommend. We had a few other bits but accidently chose a few too many things deep fried, so I'd try to get maybe one of those instead of a few. The sushi mixed selection was great tho. Good service too

I have been coming here for years, and the consistency has never altered. I have never had a bad experience here and the food is always very simple but focuses on freshness and ingredient quality of a very high standard.

Lovely food, attentive staff what’s not to like? I had the Katsu curry which was amazing. Waitress advised us on the ice cream and we will be definitely going back to try the other flavours so unusual. Loved it! If you love Japanese food do not hesitate to book!

This place is tucked away just off the front but is worth finding! It was really busy and we didn’t have a reservation but staff found us a table. Sushi was great but the Katsu curry was amazing!

Some Japanese staff working here which is always a must in a Japanese restaurant. Food is well presented, tasty and the staff are very receptive. I lived in Japan for almost 4 years and this is probably the best Japanese restaurant in the north of the UK.

We have been coming here since it started but something has changed. We came for my daughters birthday and we were quite exited but were all left a bit disappointed. We won’t be returning

Vi hadde høye forhåpninger etter å ha lest tilbakemeldinger for restauranten, men vi ble veldig skuffet. Det tok lang tid å få forresten. Teriyaki kyllingen var dessverre veldig tørr og edamame bønnene manglet salt. Etter dette ventet vi i over en time på å få sushien. Når den endelig kom var det veldig simpel sushi. Skuffende!

Came by to Etsu with a group of about 7 or 8 of us a few weeks ago, we hadn't booked but they were able to accommodate us. The service was friendly and professional, the atmosphere was great. I had the torikatsu (sp?) curry, which is something I'd been wanting to try for years and oh man, it was amazing. Everyone had a wonderful time, I would absolutely love to come again.

Wonderful Sashimi and sushi. Nice sides which are excellent value . So many restaurants charge too much for edamame or salad ( great btw) Not here , you pay a premium for the great fish not the basics . Also 2.50 for coke and fiver for a pint . Pub prices , love that about this place.

De todos modos, pedimos nuestra comida siguiendo los consejos de la camarera, así que seguro que tomamos la decisión correcta. La comida llegó después de 30 minutos, estaba bien, pero no fue suficiente. Mi amigo y yo decidimos pedir un poco más de sushi y sashimi y esta vez la espera fue más larga. . . Tal vez 40 minutos y no pudimos entender por qué. . . ? ? al final lo comimos, pero no lo disfrutamos realmente, tal vez por la espera, tal vez por la elección equivocada o tal vez por el hecho de que el restaurante estaba vacío. . En general está bien, pero esperaba más más más. no estoy seguro para un segundo intento

Estaba en la sala de exposiciones de Liverpool para una feria comercial y pensé que debía probar este lugar para cenar, ya que era mi hotel.

Très bonne surprise et le restaurant ne propose pas que des sushis mais également des plats japonais qui étaient très bons, avec un agréable service.

Ate here with a friend and never having had sushi was a little nervous. Food was impressive and of the 7 sushi dishes we chose, none disapointed. Staff were lovely and dealt efficiently with us when we arrived slightly late. Geat atmosphere and interior fit out is comfortable yet relaxed. Really enjoyed first sushi experience.

First visit to this Japanese restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It has a pleasant, laid back atmosphere with some excellent service – efficient and lots of smiles. There’s a reasonable choice on the menu plus some specials and the quality was good to very good – nothing spectacular but very enjoyable nonetheless. I particularly liked my grilled tuna with ponsu sauce which was served with a simple but delicious side salad. My wife thought her chicken teriyaki was better than average and also enjoyed the grilled aubergine. The fact that there were many Japanese customers eating there says a lot about the quality of this place – I would certainly go again.

Table for eight for friend’s birthday. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy so service slightly more random than usual. However, food was fabulous, tempura, blackened cod and sashimi.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for at least 10 years now, it’s my favourite restaurant ever and I always come here for special occasions. The food is authentic Japanese, as a huge fan of Japanese cuisine and someone who has visited Japan several times, the food here has all the subtle flavours and wholesome feelings Japan has. My favourite dish is the Katsu Don but I also absolutely love the sushi.

Rein zufällig haben wir uns für Sushi entschieden und wir beide haben unseren Augen nicht getraut... so viel Fisch in den Rolls haben wir noch nie gesehen und das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis ist sehr gut! Went for a meal on a Sunday evening after a stroll in Albert Dock and I was absolutely delighted with everything.

Smakløst. Både foret og middag var dessverre smakløst, ikke nok fritert og heller ikke noen smak. Alle fire missfornøyde. Kom grunnet gode anmeldelser på TripAdvisor. Men dette var ikke godt.

My friend and I are sitting in Etsu as I type this review. I couldn't wait to share my excitement. The food was absolutely out of this world. I wish I wasn't so full so I could order more.

We had the opportunity to pay this gem of restaurant a visit this evening to find that as ever the food was excellently prepared, presented and tasted delicious. The staff were courteous, helpful and welcoming an whether you are a regular or not they make it feel like you are a member of the family. The restaurant has had a lot of renovations which look incredible, but it is nice to know that the traditions that have made the restaurant so popular in Liverpool are still there and the quality of food and service is second to none. I’d highly recommend a visit if you want to experience some traditional Japanese cuisine.
