After a long drive from London , we finally arrived at the Engine. A place that was mentioned in the Michelin guidebook, and what's better than turning up to a very warm and friendly Northern restaurant with great food ? We've been many times. For Friday and Saturday evenings you must book a couple of months in advance. Super food, good service and bubbly atmosphere.

This is my new favourite local restaurant, serving up stunning world tapas style dishes, we went for valentines day and it was flawless, great service, great food, great atmosphere! What’s not to love! I would highly recommend it!

We were truly blown away by everything at this super restaurant - from the greeting the staff the decor the table wear & most importantly the delicious food - so much too choose from - their were 3 of us & we chose 8 dishes between us all coming in a nice space apart & we oohhed & aaahed over all of them undecided as to which where our favourites! (The chicken wings were mine )! We finished on a to die for sticky toffee pudding with gingerbread ice cream - superb! We were served by a delightful young lady who was attentive & friendly - from start to finish the whole experience was 10/10

Regular visitor over the years, how this place doesn't have a Michelin star shocks me. The food is amazing, the service matches and the the effort and care put into everything is obvious. Highly recommend the tiger prawns and fillet steak, to die for!

Outstanding food as always. New menu items were delicious, especially the monkfish. Such a variety of very different flavours all executed to perfection. First class!

Great food! tapas style and reasonably priced!

Booked in for my daughters birthday (she's a grown up so not a kids party!) and our table was immediately ready and very cozy it was too. I like it when you can see into the cooking area - it means meals are cooked to order, not just 'warmed up'! We ordered from a very decent size menu - lots to choose from to suit everyone's tastes. I can sometimes be disappointed at tapas restaurants by the size of the dishes or when there are three of something and there are four of you etc. Anyway we had 10 dishes between the four of us and they were all pretty decent sized, but even the Japanese beef strips (which were very small) were actually just right. We loved every single dish. So tasty and some I'd not seen before so well done to the chef(s) for good menu creativity. We ate every morsel and had to admit we were very full, so goes to show the portion sizes here are perfectly judged! Still had room for a white chocolate cheesecake which was divine! We were also very impressed by the quite young waiter who had a very good knowledge about the menu being able to explain to us what each was (something you don't always find with servers) and he was very attentive throughout our meal. In summary a five star restaurant with five star service and five star food. Can't wait to visit again soon

Wonderful experience. Gorgeous restaurant with polite friendly front of house staff and excellent food. We were looking for something a bit special for an all-too-rare family get-together and could not have made a better choice. We ate far too much - everything was so good that we just kept ordering more. And the presentation of the dishes was consistently outstanding. Standouts for me were the cauliflower croquettes (that sauce!) and seared wagyu (on as a special). Others loved the red curry cod fritters. The dining room did feel a little austere in the gloom of a drizzly afternoon, so we will have to return in the evening. can't wait

Fabulous food, for the best experience, ask for the walk-in bar seats as you get to see the kitchen working. Brilliant wine choices and coffees were strong and smooth.

Visited today with on a family trip up north, having taken my parents word for how good this place was (and having looked at various pictures online) we went with them for lunch. The menu was not small, and seemed to cater for a variety of tastes, including chips with ketchup which kept our boy happy. Between the 4 adults I we had about 8 dishes, although truth be told, I feel I would have happily tried one of everything, although I was pleasantly full after sharing the dishes we picked…I did find room for a cheese board though, which was truly outstanding. A great variety of cheeses, and not the standard apple, celery and crackers but something completely different. I was not disappointed with what I ate and I would definitely go back. I’ve seen some comments on price being expensive, but I feel it’s competitively priced and would pay for food of that quality any day of the week.

First trip yesterday . Great interior we sat facing the kitchen , great experience and good been able to talk to the chefs . The food came out fast and was clearly all homemade and with chefs that’s care . Had a good chat with the head chef / owner. Out and out favourite was the crab chips we will 100% be back

One of the best meals I’ve had all year. Every dish was spot on and a nice mash-up of different cuisines. Tip: Don’t skip the deserts!

A friend recommended this restaurant to us and I’m so glad they did. The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was great and the staff were both friendly and super efficient. We had booked a table but opted for a seat at the kitchen counter so we could see the chefs work their magic. It was wonderful to see how everything was prepared and how well the chefs worked together to create so many excellent dishes in such a small kitchen. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! We already plan to return having made reservations for the next couple of months. Can’t wait!

As far as modern Mediterranean small plates eateries go Engine certainly deserves its place at the top of the list. We chose 6 dishes between us and each one was a pure delight. Thoughtfully and delicately prepared perfect dishes of food came one after the other to provide an amazing array of flavours. If you’re in this part of the world you must visit Sowerby Bridge’s true culinary delight!

Table service was superb, food cooked to perfection, friendly and lovely environment. Even though not local to us, it was well worth the drive. Would definitely go again.

If you haven’t eaten here yet you must. You have to book far out in advance to find a spot but it’s worth Super super high end food with amazing flavours with lots of layers Good wine selection and the Alhambra lager is honestly one of the tastiest pints I’ve had. Every dish we ordered was so delicious. Especially loved the Halloumi Fries, the Spicy Prawns, the Aubergine and the Beetroot. Can't wait to come again sometime soon.

I love love love this restaurant and have been there many times, I am also a big fan of their New Years Eve box (hint hint). Favourite this time was the Japanese beef which was on the specials menu, also very very good were the cauliflower croquettes. Service was, as always, impeccable despite the fact they were uber busy and the wine, a lovely bottle of White Rioja, was bursting with flavours of lemon curd and pineapple. Everything was delicious, beautifully flavoured, seasoned and presented and just an absolute pleasure to devour. The portions varied in size depending on what the dish was and you clearly have to pace yourself accordingly but it was just gorgeous from start to finish.
