Enchanted Wood Cafe in Calderdale

Visited today for tea and cake. Very disappointed, paid£16+ for two teas and two pieces of supposedly sticky ginger cake. Cake was awful very dry and hard. Shame as the garden centre itself was very nice.

I ordered a Flat White coffee, which looked and tasted like warm milk. The waitress offered me an extra shot when I complained, but then returned to say I would have to pay an extra 95p for that.

As regulars we have things "mix n match" from the menu. Apparently it has been taken over and upon trying to order was told "we only do what's on the menu". Very disappointing we left. Usually establishments like this do "mix n match" for an extra cost. I guess we won't be going back. Also the garden centre there we spend money after eating. So they will also lose.

Shopped in the garden centre , bought numerous things including a bar of chocolate Called into the cafe for a drink There was no food available as it was their last half hour of trading ( fair enough ) I offered the chocolate around the 4 of us The lady came over and said sorry you are not allowed to eat your own food I said oh well we did buy it in the garden centre , to which she replied well that doesn’t matter you can’t bring in your own food Now I could have understood it if we had have brought sandwiches in but it was one bar of chocolate between 4 and we bought it from the garden centre In my opinion there was just no need to have said anything We were not made to feel welcome so won’t return

We always go for breakfast, on a Sunday morning always hot and well presented,sets you up for the day.great and helpful staff, the place is always nice and clean and nice and warm

Visited today with my Granddaughter for lunch. Both meals were served quickly and were delicious. Staff were friendly. Will call again

Untidy - unclean, and the staff could not care less. This restaurant has gone downhill since the Garden Centre took over again. Go to a Brewers Fayre restaurant for meals at half the price and good polite service. They really care about customers and customer care - the enchanted wood do not care about anything.

Thank you to the wonderful staff who helped me with my 93 year old Mum today on our way home from a funeral. They brought delicious food including freshly made chips! Unfortunately we had to leave early as my Mum wasn’t well & they kindly boxed up our food to take with us & popped in a complimentary cake. They were so kind & understanding & patient. I can’t rate them highly enough! I will definitely return as everything looked delicious!

Warm welcome and a really lovely breakfast. All the food was fresh and tasty and of top quality. Good price, we will be back.

Really disappointed, ordered breakfast, the bacon was so salty . We gave feedback to be told she doesn’t know till someone eats it that it’s salty. I was unable to eat mine. Won’t be back

Popped in for a first visit for a quick drink and sweet treat. Nice place but the cakes and tray bakes are really expensive for what you get. £5.99 for a less than generous slice of cake that tasted dry was well over-priced and a small tray bake for £4.99 similarly. There are other places around the area that are better value so unlikely we’ll be returning.

I had telephoned to reserve enough space for 10 people and when I arrived they had done the table beautifully with flowers etc and in a lovely position. All the food came at the same time and it was all very good. Staff were very friendly and nothing too much trouble. I think I’ve introduced a few regular customers!

New manageress has certainly changed things.very friendly staff and very helpful.good fresh food .cafe kept lovely and clean.delicous cakes and scones.well worth a visit now.

Very disappointing steak pie and beef sandwiches. Meat was very chewy. Chips were cheap frozen variety. Won't be returning.

Very friendly warm atmosphere, coffee was fantastic, bacon s/w was lovely, even the toast was nice with 3 packs of butter rather than the obligatory 2 and all very reasonably priced will be coming back for a proper meal soon the steak pie looks fantastic

Came on sat 5thmarch.served by garden centre manager who made my coffee put too much cinnamon on and proceeded to blow off excess over sink.i was gobsmacked to say the least.a member of staff looked on in horror.

In the back room the doors to rooms where the freezers are often are left open - I have just had a meal looking at a mop and bucket in the freezer room with its door open. I tried to shut the door myself; I know why it's always open the catch does not hold the door closed so it just flies open when somebody's been in there. Staff are certainly not as friendly as the used to be. There always seems to be a new person learning the job there.They don't listen to you when you make an order so they often get it wrong. Last time we went they got four things that we asked for wrong. The food, when you eventually get it it, is very nice but the atmosphere has gone downhill since the garden centre took over the cafe once more. Yes the carpet has been cleaned or replaced but the whole atmosphere is dreary. It used to be a nice place to sit down and enjoy your meal and I wonder now whether it's at all worth going. I used to go regularly and have meals there but really now can't afford it and I don't have to put up with the staff not listening when I order things. This is not a grudge review it is an honest review from a person who wishes that this cafe was like it used to be before the garden centre took over running it. I ordered a haloomi wrap and they gave chicken this was most upsetting I got a sorry and a refund but the only excuse was they got mixed up not safe to eat in this place if you are vegetarian !

We popped in for a quick cuppa a few months ago and now try to get here every week. The staff are all friendly and helpful, especially Emily! The food is great and the chef bends over backwards to help with alterations to the set...

Nice breakfast sandwich, I had bacon and egg, my Mum had sausage and egg. Good quality bacon, this is always a plus. We asked for two cups of tea, very disappointed as we received a teapot with only 1 tea bag in. Hence the tea...

10 of us went for Christmas lunch. They were happy to do pensioner portions and reduced the price. The meals were fantastic I had the pannini and that was really tasty. The waitress was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going...

Visited here for Sunday breakfast. We both had full english, one with scrambled, one with poached egg, great to have the choice. Was very good, overall, however hash browns were pale and undercooked, as were mushrooms. We would have been happy to have waited longer...

Hasnt been decorated yet again.whole place looks grubby tho staff try their best to clean.wont be going again.Coffee not consistent either too weak or too string.

BUT (and it's a big but) insensitive people like you don't help situations and I'm just glad he's not at an age where he can fully understand what you just did! I hope whichever one of you it was, you don't find yourself in the same situation!

We had been to the garden centre and decided to have a quick coffee. The staff were very pleasant and obliging, Service was quick and the coffee was excellent.

Called in today and won't be rushing back. The staff were very unfriendly and the customer seemed to get in the way of them having a chat. The coffee was just about ok and the cake average. Wouldn't recommend bothering to stop the car for this place

Called in here just for a quick snack. We’ve been here quite a few times as it’s just up the road from me. Food is ok nothing to write home about but not bad. I think Sunday lunch is good cos it’s very popular always busy. I seem to remember once having it but it’s quite a while ago and it was fairly tasty. Don’t expect too much and you won’t be disappointed

Visited mid week for lunch, surprisingly busy. Ordered two filter coffees, a cheese and ham panini and a BLT. Despite it being busy we did not have to wait too long food. Panini served salad and crisps and BLT (which was huge with lots of bacon) came with coleslaw. Beautifully cooked and presented.

first time in Brighouse, called in to kershaws on the way home. what a lovely place .then we had tea and cakes in the café on site, lovely café and very happy staff,very clean .next time we will be calling in again for lunch this time lots of choice on the menu

We hadn't been to the Enchanted Garden for a while, but recent we have been twice. They do a nice cheese on toast and the egg and chips is tasty and filling. Yes, the décor needs a little TLC, but for good, honest food, you can't beat it. We have found the staff to be polite and helpful.

I went there today, the place is tatty! I asked for a coffee and a cake service was definitely not with a smile, a dull girl, who pored milked into my coffee beaker right to the tippy top. The cake was fine, clearly one they had bought in. The coffee which I had to wait for quite a while to cool tasted of nothing at all, I thought as I had paid £2.00 I would take it back, the staff on the counter decided to pour some out and put another shot of coffee in. I took it back to my table and took a sip, whatever they had put in did not taste of coffee. I left it and walked out.

Called in for a coffee, what a little gem, lots of choice, really good menu, full meals , light bites or like us just coffee and cake, lovely pleasant staff, plenty of tables, good car parking, there are also a few independent little shops and the garden centre to have a look around, well worth a visit

Mi madre y yo nos detuvimos aquí ayer después de un viaje a Halifax, la madre tenía el puré de gambas recién horneados, lo cual era perfecto - un montón de agradable ensalada y gambas de muy buena calidad. Intenté algo que nunca había oído hablar de lo que me dijeron, pero es común en esta parte de Yorkshire - un teacake con carne y salsa de cebolla - era absolutamente deliciosa! ! ! Grandes trozos de carne en una encantadora bap suaves cubiertas con salsa de cebolla ricos - y todo por menos de 5 libras! Lo recomiendo de verdad! El personal era encantador! Sin duda parada aquí si estás en la zona

Después de nuestro paseo matinal lunes 13 de nosotros fuimos a almorzar. Había muchas órdenes diferentes y todo el mundo parecía estar contento con sus comidas. El menú es un café, tuve huevo básico muy bueno y patatas fritas y otros en nuestra mesa tenía excelentes sándwiches. En los últimos años nuestro Grupo ha tenido el almuerzo aquí en 3 ocasiones y si un lugar no es pongan a no volver. Es peculiar, limpio y el servicio es muy eficiente.

Good, decently priced, good quality food. Nice quirky surroundings and good for children. However, the waitressing staff's attitude have a lot to be desired. Retraining needed or you will lose customers.

A few bad comments about the staff are in the independent reviews.They like rules here, if you are one second after 11 they don't and won't do breakfast.They deliberately Omit to tell you that you can have bacon egg and chips though.It Is like they enjoy upsetting customers.Time to retire?

just had lunch with the girls ,a table of 10 have to say it was lovely again ,first class service ,staff are very friendly .,A very nice touch .all together a good experiance Will visit again.

Well this has to be the worse decorated place on earth, the carpet was stained and tread bear the walls well I don't think one matched? The food was expensive and not worth the high price paid for it and the chef was the rudest man I have ever come across definitely not recommended!

I love coming to this cafe. It's brilliant, and there's always new things to look at. Great toasties and jacket potatoes, as well as loads for vegetarians to choose from. And great service.

Very basic, but value for money, quite a good selection of standard garden centre cafe, toasted sandwiches, soup, apple pie and custard very good and home made cakes

I had a BLT sandwich with a coffee. It was freshly prepared, the bacon was perfectly cooked and the sandwich was beautiful. The best BLT for ages.

The overall look inside is very poor dark and a bit dismal. The food is good and the staff are frindly Needs revamping although it is clean

Been a few times ( inc last Sunday morning) when visiting Kershaws Garden Centre and always enjoyed the experience...good selection of dishes too,including the useful option of 'smaller appetites menu'.

Had day out and stop at the garden centre ,which was fun could not get round the shop very well and cold to . At the same time went into the café ,I must say lovely food ,and the staff very friendly .will be back again .

Only ever visited for tea and a biscuit, but on each occasion when we have visited up to an hour (and sometimes an hour and a half) before closing have felt hurried out as the staff hoover, clean up and close areas around you! The cafe says it closes at 4, but I would recommend going after 2!!!

I have been a regular customer for some time and have always found the staff welcoming and efficient. Good choice of food with smaller portions in some choices (which I appreciate as I find large helpings overfacing). Delicious puddings and cakes. Yes it could do with updating but worth a visit for the food. Also a garden centre and craft shop, etc on the site.

I really loved this place. We popped in for a late breakfast on the basis of trip advisor reviews and weren't disappointed. The owner calls a greeting as soon as you step through the door and we immediately felt welcome. The interior is laid back, cosy and eclectic. We ordered a Breakfast . Delicious. I wanted to order seconds but managed to resist. It's not a silver service type place but it's not pretending to be. It's a comfortable, laid back neighbourhood cafe with a real personality and food you want to go back for.

We've eaten here a few times over the last 12 months. Great menu, food always delicious and the staff welcoming! Really is worth a try if you're are in Brighouse .

The Enchanted Wood Cafe is starting to show its age and although this doesn't have change the taste of the food, it does make it feel a bit "transport" like. We pop in there for Breakfast/Brunch when visiting the local shops/Garden Centre and therefore are not too demanding , but the place could do with a good makeover to bring it up to 2014 .

Rude, Over-priced, too much salt on Sandwiches, Very rude lady behind the counter who had a face like a plasterers radio. £75.00 a week down as of Monday, we will take our custom else where. Johny- Site foreman.
