Very disappointed in the cake decorating I have been a customer for many years, I always order a special cake in December, always say I want a winter theme with a Christmas tree, the writing on the cake to be blur and orange, this cake looks like a child did it... no wintery anything and the tree??? Not happy at all,

Should have just ordered vanilla, which is about what I had since there were hardly any cherries in the cherry vanilla….do better

My grandson dropped a scoop of ice cream off his cone and they wouldn’t give him another one. It was over $12 for 2 cones . I asked if they could please give him another scoop . They said “ no “ we can’t . For the price of the ice cream am very upset they couldn’t make a kid happy .

What a little gem. Made to feel very welcome by Emily. The cafe has recently been redecorated and was stunning. On the day we visited it would have been warm enough to sit on the little terrace. We sat inside admiring the views. Had breakfast which was avocado on toast with mushrooms and we opted for an extra of bacon. Lovely breakfast setting us up for our walk to the Old Man of Hoy.

Great options for my vegan fiance.

Emilys food was delicious and we had a delightful experience from start to finish. I recommend booking in advance as it is a very small but beautiful restaurant with great views. Such a special dining experience to start our holiday.

Really lovely to be able to go to one of Emily's special evening meals, having been many times during daytime hours for everything from breakfast to early tea and cake and ice-cream in between. Transformed from it's daytime look to a more sophisticated evening vibe. You have to like fish by the way! A imaginative menu which was well presented and tasted wonderful. We both had the Crab starter, then the Lemon Sole and the Haddock for mains, finishing with Cherry Pavlova and the Profiteroles. The view across the water is beautiful too. The menu is in the photos. Highly recommended.

I mean I've been visiting for years and love the ice cream. First time getting a milk shake and it was just drinking milk with some cookie flavor. So disappointing. Chocolate cone smells like booty btw. Lol

A delightful little cafe on the shore near the ferry terminal. We had an evening meal. Warm welcome. Food is served in a dining room overlooking the water. Delicious food served beautifully, felt very relaxed, not rushed at all. Emily is a great host. Would recommend this wholeheartedly

We only popped in for a quick bite but were tempted by the full breakfast which sounded superb - it was. We now rank this the best breakfast anywhere (and we've tried a fair few) - worth the ferry trip on its own. Will definitely be back.

We stopped at Emily's Tea Room on our way back from walking to the Old Man of Hoy. We had a delicious late lunch there including a salmon plate and mushroom soup. We had hoped to reserve a dinner table after hearing many wonderful things about their dinner menu but, alas, Emily was not available during our stay and so the tea room was not open for its normal dinner hours. If you are on Hoy for a day or overnight, check the Facebook page to see whether it will be open - it's worth the effort.

A superb tea room and craft shop on the Island of Hoy. A lovely view from the outside terrace - especially for birders and artists. Binoculars and guidebooks provided. Even the bathroom had much quirky attention to detail! Highly recommend.

Food is good, but the staff are not very welcoming and when delivering part of our order it was thrust on to the end of the table without a word!

Lovely tea room, in a beautiful spot on the peaceful island of Hoy. Pretty, mismatched floral crockery, yummy range of homemade cakes. The roast beef sandwich with local beef was a top choice

This is a beautiful tea room on the main road of Hoy Island, north of Lyness. The tea room itself reminded us of a New England beach house. We enjoyed scrumptious home baked ginger cake and tea. Delicious! Emily and her Mum were very welcoming. They also sell works by local artists (including by Emily’s Mum, who is very modest!) We are told by local Orcadians that evening meals at Emily’s are delicious too and a great experience, sadly we couldn’t participate as we were on our way to our hotel at Longhope on our bikes. A delightful find!

What a lovely little cafe right out there on the isle of Hoy with charming decor, nice gifts on sale, wonderfully characterful surroundings. Well done to Emily for her entrepreneurship and fabulous friendly service. My salmon sandwich was lush with a generous portion of home made soup. My partner said his burger was excellent quality although the salad needed a dressing to bring it to life. I would say a slightly more varied salad together with some dressing would make our meal top notch. On the whole, really great place to visit and we will return. Bravo Emily’s.

A haven for tea and cake when it’s raining on Hoy. Very friendly service - and very excellent cake! If you find yourself on Hoy this is a MUST visit.

There were a lot of flavors to choose from and the ice cream was pretty good. This is not our most favorite ice cream shop in the area but they have some good choices.

I wouldn't even give a star. Website said it was open 7 days a week. I traveled from far away to treat my sister for her birthday since she lived closer. Sign on the door said it was closed Monday and Tuesdays. Then update your website. I patronized another place in town and boy were we glad we did. We were thrilled with the pumpkin pie ice cream. Maybe it was meant to be. Obviously, regarding poor management, they don't even read these reviews since you do not even see any replys from them. Do you even care?

I went there because they advertise vegan options. They had two ice cream flavors (hey, they're options). I got a shake for myself and one of the options for the Mrs. The shake was decent. I'll have to go back to try something else. But, for now, I'll just sip away...

Fun cafe close enough to the ferry port to get a quick tea and scone on the way back to the Orkney Mainland. An enthusiastic staff with a cheerful mixture of china!

We saw this tearoom on line and had to visit on our trip to Hoy. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Lovely food, charming service and would go back in a flash. We hope you do well Emily, you deserve it.

Although I do feel bad for them being understaffed, I did not have a very good experience. There was only one girl behind the counter the whole time with a line of people. Poor girl was running around with her head cut off, but was very calm as she worked through it all. I had 3 different choices of ice cream flavors that I had in mind that I wanted, but when I went up to the freezer they were out of all 3! No more Chocolate peanut butter fudge, chocolate marshmallow, and chocolate peanut butter. My family and I also walked into the shop to a group of obnoxious little girls screaming, dancing, and jumping around which was very irritating, and probably to the one girl working too. I do not blame the one girl that was working what so ever for this poor experience she was very sweet and stayed calm under the pressure. But I do blame Emily’s poor management. We stopped coming before because of bad past experiences, but after a while we decided to try again. That was a mistake.

Local and independent. Support your community and eat local. And get your dog something too!

Great downtown ice cream place! Love that they have vegan options! Not many places in the area that offers that. They are on the pricey side but worth it. Aside of their menu items, you can customize what you want as well! The other day I ordered a vanilla, peanut butter, and fresh banana shake! Out of this world! Again, pricey BUT tasty!

Management - you are a mess! Ordered a 10 in cake online and received a confirmation email the next day that my online order was submitted. I had a special request for sweet 16. No one answered the phone midday when I called to discuss my order and they didn’t return my call. I assumed they were closed for business so I bought a cake elsewhere. Then 30 min after my requested pick up time I got a call saying they had a 9 in cake in chocolate and vanilla if we wanted it but they couldn’t do any special decoration. I accepted since the other cake we bought was not ice cream. My husband went to pick up and the 16 year old at the counter said they don’t have a box for the cake. W-What?? He talked the girl into getting anything to cover the cake so it wouldn’t be exposed for the car ride home. She found a large sheet cake box and when it got home the roses and writing on top were smeared off because the box was too shallow and the freshly added decorations were soft. Clearly they do not care. Beware if ordering cake.

A wonderful little cafe on Hoy with home cooked hot and cold meals as well as delicious home baking. Definitely need to book first. We emailed Emily and she replied right away. Lovely professional service and as an added bonus she has a gift shop...

Ok! Yyuummm! I ordered a small and thought "how am I going to finish this" haha! I tried Death by Mint flavor. Tasted pretty amazing.

Managed to slot in 2 visits during our short stay. Chocolate cake and Victoria sponge were fantastic as were the waffles and rum and raisin ice cream. The local salmon is a must if you are having a sandwich. Beautiful sea view to top it...

Booked for my hubbies 50th while we were staying nearby. Visited on the 8th august. Surely one of the nicest tea rooms anywhere sat outside and soaked up the gorgeous view. Delighted to see Emily is on top of all the covid safety measures so felt safe and relaxed and appreciated that she has decided to stay open.It has a really cute vintage themed interior/exterior with real china plates. Salmon and cream cheese bagel was fresh and tasty and the knickerbockerglory was to die for hubby had a toastie and banana split and our teen went for a freak shake. Everyone was very pleased with their choices and left feeling happy and satisfied. You cannot visit hoy without enjoying a visit here you would definitely be missing out.

Emily really looked after me as I rode in on the weather on my pushbike. Nice crockery adds the touch to a couple of pots of tea and light but generous Victoria sponge.

Stopped for tea and cake during a cycle tour of Hoy. Emily was a delightful ( but Covid aware ) hostess and her cakes are to die for. We enjoyed the experience so much that we went back to repeat it 3 hours later on our return leg.

Warmest of welcomes, real home-made cakes (which we took away) and excellent coffees. Small person at the next table vocal in appreciation of his babychino. Setting and ambience amazing. A real treat!

I ordered a box of mixed brownies for my sister and they were lovely. The service was excellent, through Facebook messenger and with the speed they were delivered. We also had lunch at the tearoom this week and it was great. Lovely waffles!

Nice place with good ice cream.

I saw an employee take a sample for herself from the ice cream tub with an ungloved hand. And she was going back to double-dip with the same spoon that was just in her mouth, but stopped herself at the last second when she noticed me watching her. Also, she wasn’t wearing a mask during the Covid mask mandate.

We ordered the Mixed Box of Chocolate Brownies from Emily's Tea Room and Ice Cream Parlour and were not disappointed. The box was delivered super quick and very well packaged. The little personal touches throughout the unpacking made the overall taste experience so much more fun. The Orkney Fudge Brownies were my favourite by far, but i am a sucker for Fudge. It is awesome to get a taste of Orkney and to support a local business that is a champion for all that is Orkney. The Lindt and Biscoff Brownies were a gooey mess of sweet goodiness that my wife, daughter and i scoffed down with some ice cream. If you are looking for a decadent treat then i would recommend ordering the Mixed Brownie Box from Emily's Tea Room and Ice Cream Parlour. You will not be disappointed

Poor experience this evening at Emily's. My husband waited quite a long time for a milkshake; our two children and myself were able to finish our ice cream by the time his shake was ready. When it was given to him, it was dripping everywhere and we had to ask for a plate to put underneath it. I had a twist in a cone and asked for sprinkles; there was maybe a small teaspoon of sprinkles on it. While we sat and ate, all three employees on duty went in a back room to chat. Another family came in to order ice cream, and not one employee went out to greet the customer. About 5 to 10 minutes after the family arrived, I finally got the nerve to tell the employees that they had customers waiting. I don't think they liked that very much, but I felt bad that those people were waiting so long. It wasn't right.

Great ice cream and service is excellent

Quaint and nice place - we went for the advertised sugar free ice cream (medical need). Three flavors listed as sugar free, was told only one was available. Ordered a scoop of that, the rest of my party was served and I was eating the ice cream - at which point the other young server said that’s not sugar free. I pointed to the sign and said that’s what I asked for - our server proceeded to say they never have sugar free ice cream. I was five to six bites in by then. I tossed the rest and the girls were like oh well. I not only paid for their mistake I paid with symptoms for the next two hours. Never again! Staff is not well trained and not really caring - we took a special trip because we heard they had sugar free and they advertise it - but if it’s there the staff didn’t know about it.

We’ve not visited but had an excellent packed lunch provided by Emily. It was presented in a lovely hamper and the cake was fabulous.

On google, it says that they close at 10 but I went by yesterday around 9:20; there were girls working and I went in and was told that they were closed. I was very confused and told them that on your sign it says ten but still got told they were closed.

What a pleasant surprise to come upon this place. We had a very simple but pleasant lunch there and later went back for tea and scrummy cake whilst waiting for the return ferry. The only downside is that it is not sufficiently signposted from Lyness ferry.More signposts please.

Great ice cream and very nice service

We were on Hoy and waiting for the ferry to the mainland and went for drive north.Emily's appeared 'Brigadoon' style at the side of the road. Hungry and thirsty we were overjoyed to find a cosy, WWII themed tea room with great food, cake and service. You simply must try the Victoria sponge. Well worth a visit. I almost expected to hear tales of an Emily "who used to serve the sailors who were stationed on the island, with tea and cake, but who tragically died one night during a terrible storm......." local legend has it the shack appears to those who need refreshment and cake; only to disappear the very moment the traveler leaves.

5 of us enjoyed morning coffee and truly wonderful cake! The ambiance was just perfect and Emily bakes her own cakes and scones- as well as looking after her wee shop for visitors or those seeking special gifts! We intended to return for lunch but there is so much to see and do that we didn’t make it- our loss!

A nice find on our walk around the island. We were blessed with fine sunny weather and enjoyed the food, service, and views.

What a find! in the middle of Hoy, suddenly there's a vision of loveliness... bright painted, charmingly set up with good parking. Inside, there's a great range of local high quality craft work and a lovely, clean cafe. Options to sit outside were thwarted by heavy rain but we were cosy inside with the beautiful views to admire. The theme of the cafe is really interesting and well presented.The bathroom is lovely and sparkly clean.The food- we had coffee and cake - was excellent and we'll be back for lunch some day soon- the menu looks great.

Hoy is sparsely populated and has few places to eat, so we were relieved to come across this delightful cafe. We sat outside and soon enough Emily brought our cake and drinks. We enjoyed the view, the sunshine and the food. Not expensive.

We stopped at Emily's at the end of our day on Hoy and were very glad that we had. Ot offers hot and cold drinks and cakes, as well as having a good selection of crafts, mostly local. We had very good scones and enjoyed the good service and relaxed surroundings.

What a delightful little cafe and craft shop. We had a lovely chat with the owner and I bought a pair of earrings at a very reasonable price. Lovely cake, ice cream and coffee also bought. Hoy is a interesting and lovely island, steeped in military history but with lots of wild life to. Do stop and enjoy a coffee break if you are in the area.
