Elm Tree Pub in Bolsover

Was in the area and wanted some lunch. Ended up at the Elm Tree. Ordered off the lunch menu. Only had soup and toastie but it was really tasty. My husband had the burger and said it was good. The restaurant was busy and the snug area filled up quickly so we got there at the right time. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Defo worth a visit if you are in the area.

Had Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday. Impressed that they had their regular menu as well as a special one. As it was a birthday celebration we went all out and had a load of booze and food and it came to less than £100. The food was amazing, beautifully presented and a taste sensation. The staff were attentive (without being over the top) friendly and efficient. We were allowed to sit for a while before choosing a dessert (which I much prefer) even though they were very busy. There was a good atmosphere and the decor was warm and cosy. This is such a great pub - a little gem.

We really enjoyed our Sunday Carvery. The young staff were friendly, quick and very efficient and dealt with all our requests with a smile. The three possible choices of meat were nicely cooked and all the trimmings were fresh and piping hot. Our lunch was very good value and we would recommend this pub without hesitation. We had a Birthday Lunch here at the Elm tree .I had beef Wellington, my wife had Cajun chicken, both meals where cooked to perfection. I had draught Guinness to drink absolutely delicious, the staff where great , very professional, helpful, and friendly, one or two of our party, decided to change what they had already ordered, no problem, the waiter never flinched, not cheap, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, the whole event really made the day for my daughter in law who's birthday it was. I cannot recommend the Elm Tree high enough. All I can say is I don't think you will be disappointed, well worth a visit Our visit was on Saturday 23/3 2024, I would rate the Elm Tree with a definite5*****

Absolutely top marks for delicious Sunday lunch ,visited for Mother’s Day and it didn’t disappoint everything was top marks this is a beautiful little chocolate box pub every thing about it is oldy worldy definitely our top pub for food and ambience,this is truly a gem of a find 👍

Earlier in the year I visited the Elm Tree and had a disappointing lunch BUT, I somehow got the feeling that I needed to give it another chance. The staff at the Elm Tree are very pleasant, friendly and most attentive. My second visit was, as I had hoped, much better. The food was good and I felt that my decision to return was vindicated. What I like is that the Elm Tree is a pub that serves a good selection of food without being pretentious. It's not a gastropub or a restaurant but isn't trying to be either.

Fabulous country pub with lovely decor and ambiance. The food is fantastic with a great gluten free selection. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We are repeat customers and my daughter loves it as they are brilliant in trying to accomodate her preferences.

We always try to pay a visit to the elm tree whenever we can. As in our opinion it is one the best. The food is excellent, the staff are very friendly and the service is always very good. On a cold evening we received a warm welcome. We're seated promptly and drinks order was taken. I ordered the pitchfork chardonnay which was one of the best chilled whites I had tasted in a while. The salmon and prawn cocktail is very well presented and tasted delicious. Fish and chips was my choice of main, again cooked to perfection. No room for desserts. We will be back when we can. 5*

Well first if all let me say that the Beef Wellington was amazing. Good job we didn't have a starter as the portions were excellent. And there the story ends. They don't do cocktails and don't stock the basics to construct your own. Now that is missed revenue. A shame really. The desert menu, although quite good only had ice cream with each, no sauces. But the final act was a coffee. Instead of desert we opted for a floating coffee...very 1970 s...my friend had a Tia Maria, and I a brandy. Now neither of us could taste any alcohol and the coffee was the worst I've tasted. Bitter and burnt tasting.. .. Back to the main course. Outstanding. Sorry about the rest. Won't be back.

I booked a table for 8 people for my Mum's 78th birthday. The staff were lovely and amazing. Food was stunning. And they even made Mum a cake. See photo. Lol. We lovely evening and I can't thank them enough. We will be back. 5 Stars.

Celebrated my husband’s 70th birthday at the Elm Tree. Lovely welcome, even though we arrived early. We had pre-booked and everything was just as ordered. The roasts were delicious & the children loved their food. Staff were very friendly and attentive, made us feel special. Thank you, we will definitely visit again.

First time we have visited this place, there was 5 of us that was dining and all chose different from the Sunday Lunch menu, 1 of being Coeliac, who had a good choice on the menu, all others where highly satisfied and would recommend the Elm Tree, we will certainly go back

Brilliant food, great service, dissapointed that we were told to leave the table at ten to eight because they needed it. You should not over book the table just because you expect the first group to be finished. We would have spent more money on drinks, but left and spent our money somewhere else.

On a recent lunchtime visit the only thing that let elmtree down was the food ..we opted for the beer battered fish & chips & £ 17 per portion expected better quality fish ...the batter was soggy & fish various colours ( grey / brown / white ) ?

Had a lovely family get-together here on Sunday, 12-02-23. There were about 15 of us. They gave us our own private room upstairs, the library. To be honest, I would have given the venue 5⭐️ but their vegetarian options weren't the greatest. I don't know why, but places always assume that vegetarians like mushrooms. So, every vegetarian meal was mushroom based. I couldn't think of anything worse. Please consider doing a nut roast or something instead. For starters, I had deep fried brie and cranberry, which was so utterly beautiful. It was melt in the mouth fantastic. The dessert I had was ginger creme brulee it was delicious. The ginger was just enough. Not overpowering in the slightest. Our servers were absolutely lovely too. Would highly recommend going here.

Came in Christmas Eve with the kids. Fillet steak was excellent and very well cooked, kitchen was flexible with tweaking the kids menus to suit. Lovely atmosphere.

A small old country pub with excellent food and a great supply of beers and wines. The service from the staff is excellent and very friendly nothing is to much trouble for them to look after you. Awful staff!! Just walked in on New Year’s Day at 16:00, opening hours state open till 18:00. Loads of empty tables, we stood at the door for a few minutes to ask if we could have a table. No one came over, so we selected a table then the second we sat down the manager walked over asked us to leave as they were closing in 2 hours, and moaned that we shouldn’t just sit at a table.

Had a lovely birthday meal here with my family, and really enjoyed the evening in our private room. The staff were so attentive and we never felt rushed despite it being a busy night. (Would advise booking). Having dietary requirements/intolerances always presents a challenge for myself, but I felt really well looked after here and love the separate gluten free menu. This was my second visit to this lovely village pub/restaurant. Myself and youngest son met my daughter and her 2 children prior to Christmas. We all enjoyed the excellent, extensive menu for both adults and children. The staff were very polite, friendly and efficient.

The Elm Tree Pub cooks absolutely phenomenal food! Their sausage rolls are some of the best I've eaten. They can also make lots of their options gluten-free, which is a game-changer for us as well. We liked them so much, we had them as our wedding caterers, too. And they did an amazing job. I would 100% recommend for a meal out, or as a catering option!

The food was amazing but unfortunately it took a while, as did taking our order. It loses that one star for all just taking a bit too long. (And for playing really awful country music) otherwise it was lovely!

Came with my partner and little boy for a rare meal out, ordered 2 mixed grills, kids meal and some sides. Everything on mixed grill was lovely except for the gammon which was horrendously salty and rendered the meat completely inedible unfortunately. The reason for my low stars didn’t lie with the food, but sadly the staff who appeared rude, aloof and watched our table like hawks for the entirety of our meal, at one point there was 3 staff and the chef looking over and staring. It made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable throughout the duration of our meal. We left half our meal and paid immediately not able to get out of the uncomfortable experience quick enough! Was a relief to leave those doors and we shan’t return under any circumstances. Avoid this establishment. Paid £70 to be made to feel like we’re doing something wrong!

Went for a Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. The staff are very friendly and the service is quick and efficient. The food is some of the best in Derbyshire in my opinion. Will be making this a more weekly occurrence.

The food at Elm Tree Inn is phenomenal. Not only that, the service is stellar and they have plenty of gluten free options which has been a game changer for us. You can’t go wrong with the beer options either!

Great place for food and drinks. This place does get busy so you may want to prebook before hand.the staff are hard working and very polite.the food is beautiful and very well presented.theres a great outdoor seating area which is a real sun trap in the summer months.the car park can be a little tight when busy but there is a extended part if you carry on through to the left,just follow the road round.

We booked a table for most of the day and they were happy to accommodate, we had lunch and dinner. The soup of the day with Scone was delicious as was the side salad (more than enough for two). No issues with parking as we arrived just before opening. The outside seating area is large and there is a large fielder area for you to stretch your dogs legs if required. Dog friendly which was great.

Fitted us in at short notice and served lovely food. Husband had fish and chips which he enjoyed and I had cajun chicken which was lovely. Friendly service and our little dog also made welcome.

Called in after lovely walk at Creswell Cragg. Fabulous on all counts. Ambience, friendly, food quality, service, beer... and dog friendly. Definitely plan to return.

The Elm Tree has a very good reputation, so it is always a safe option. But on our last visit, they were very busy and the food not as good as usual. My gammon was very salty, and my wife's fish had soggy batter. Will we go back again? Probably, yes.

I have not been to elm tree for a number of years and i am so happy i decided to book a table for sunday dinner. Its a gorgous bar/resteraunt in a quaint little village. The food was amazing, its very rare i dont have a single complaint however this has got to be the best food iv eaten in a long time. I will be back.

Really beautiful place. Full of character and interesting history. A little pricey for Sunday lunch given what you get but happy to support a local pub that is not a chain by paying a little more. That being said the vegetables served with the Sunday roast were dissapointing and let the meal down greatly. They were undercooked and could have easily been microwaved bags of mixed veg. Cabbage onion and green beens in a bowl. Not very appealing to look at or eat. If they replaced the veg with nice fresh produce from the local farm shops / brocoli / tenderstem fresh carrot it would raise the lunch up a level. I will go back on another day to try the main menu as its a beautiful venue.

We had a delightful lunch to celebrate my birthday. The Elm Tree is a beautiful pub, in a delightful location. The venison cottage pie (should it be a "huntsman's pie" or a "poacher's pie"?) was excellent, as was the mushroom risotto my wife enjoyed.

I contacted the Elmtree to ask if they could cater for family and friends after my husbands funeral. From that first phone call, I was provided with Sue's contact details so I could deal with her directly. Nothing was too much trouble, even when I kept changing my mind! The place is beautiful, with plenty of parking and delicious food. I would highly recommend the Elmtree for events, outstanding home cooked food or just a relaxing drink. We had an amazing meal here today for my husband's 60th birthday. They were able to cater for all of our dairy free, gluten free requirements. All the food was excellent quality and the waiting staff were superb. Highly recommended!
