El Gringo's in Ryedale

We went to El Gringo's for my Sons 20th Birthday with other members of the family, we ordered drinks three arrived and we waited another 10mins for the other drinks to arive, we ordered our food, 30 mins later we were given free nachos and dip with an apology for the wait. We waited another 35mins for food. I went to the counter to ask were our meals were and we would be leaving in five minutes if no food arrives. The food promptly arrived. Two members of the family wanted well done steaks with their combos, the steaks came still breathing and in need of a plaster each. The staff were apologetic and kept apologising and we were given 25%off the total bill. We just wanted to celebrate a birthday and make some good memories, not the memories we ended up with.

Had a lovely meal here, huge portions and really cheap, great atmosphere and the staff were really attentive and polite. Would recommend

Please careful booking at elgringos malton, had our meal booked for a couple of weeks for my husbands birthday, got a phone call half an hour before we were due to go, saying they were shut, even though on Google and website say its open. Absolutely appalling .

Outstanding flavoursome food. We had the flaming ribs. Chicken with rice black beans and salad with mango dressing and chicken enchiladas. Stunning. Forgot to take photos as we were enjoying the food so much

We have been coming to El Gringos for many years and we’re really concerned when the owner explained she was leaving the business a few months ago. We have to travel to get to the restaurant and it has always been excellent and well worth the trip. Both from a food and service perspective. Having visited a couple of times since the new owner took over, it is very clear he doesn’t care about customers, even those who have been loyal regulars. The bottom line is all that matters. I appreciate why prices have had to rise, but not that the standard of service and the blatant disregard for anything approaching a warm welcome or attitude. We will never return and that is a shame, as we always loved coming here. The owner won’t care though.

The food and service here is even better than it used to be. It is SUPERB! We have been coming here for 15 years and it's always great but now it's lighter and tastier. I think it's the best ever food and I can't wait to come here. We have beef burritos and beef Chimichangas. This food isn't just good it's healthy and delicious. You will love it. YUM. El Gringos has always been the be of my favourite places to eat with one of my favourite meals being the Maryland fried chicken. In the many years it has never let me down until today. Recipe has change. The chicken was dry and tasteless the mash had lost the flavour of garlic and been replaced by truffle which I could not taste at all and the gravy was a let down. Please please please go back to the old recipe. Other than that the loaded skins were beautiful and my son thoroughly enjoyed his ribs. The girl serving us was very polite and professional and the food was served promptly. All in all a pleasant visit but could have been a fantastic one with 5 stars if the Maryland chicken had been as it always had been.

Visited 4/11/2023 1st time visit for us and it will not be the last. Food was fabulous, I had the chicken and ribs combo, best ribs I have ever had. We visited with friend a group of nine.

We visited El Gringos for a last minute impromptu date night. The atmosphere is super chilled and laid back but the drinks and menu is something else! Huge choice of American and Mexican dishes, huge portions and great value for money. A bit of fun thrown in with lots of big sombrero’s to wear during the meal. We will definitely be returning and grabbed a takeout menu on the way out! Highly recommend

Two bad experiences since the the new owners have taken over the food was so greasy the dishes I once loved are either really poor or not on the menu anymore, steak was really poor cut and all I can say is waste of 40 pounds apart from that the staff work hard to please so can’t moan about them but definitely a place we won’t be visiting anymore

We love Mexican food and we were looking forward to visiting. Upon arrival the best description I can give is chaotic. Every table was dirty and the bar was stacked with dirty glasses. The guy in charge said he’d been non stop for three hours and asked us to sit at a dirty table until they cleaned the others. After about 10 minutes and a new arrival was seated before us we were guided to a table. We were close to a large table of drunk younger people who were shouting. By this time we were losing confidence in the restaurant as they did not seem to care about our experience. After a further wait and no apology or service we decided to leave and managed to get a table at a Thai restaurant around the corner where the service and food were very good. Sadly I would not return. I doubt they even noticed we had left. Would not recommend

It was clear to us that the new owners are making significant improvements. The food was great, both the starters and main courses were delicious. The young lad who served us was brilliant, such a positive attitude. The new owner also made an effort to welcome us and was clearly keen that everyone was well looked after which was a nice touch. Looking forward to our next visit.

The new people running El Gringo’s are great! Same yummy food and good sized portions and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Great they are now open on a Monday night too. I am vegan and they were very accommodating and there were several options. We will be back.

Good atmosphere fun and friendly, staff fun and the food was great potato skins I had Whistler's chicken and a really nice side of chilli broccoli..would love the recipe for the salsa style salad too..

Last minute decision to go to Malton and first time here, we loved it great service fun atmosphere fab food. Great value for money and you won’t be hungry at the end, we had a shared platter and I had chicken fajitas which came on a hot plate. Would recommend

Ordered takeaway from here and had a fantastic meal. Portion sizes are huge and I have a hearty appetite. The famous nachos could be a meal in their own right and will be eaten throughout the night as we couldn’t finish them. Also had a burrito and the meat feastbtwist which were amazing. Wanted tontrybthe suicidal sauce so asked for a pot of this sauce, they gave me a massive pot but it was delicious and not too hot but very very tasty. Definite give this place a go either by dining in or takeaway.

If you like a good sized portion of Mexican then this is the place, we had the Nacho starter with meats and honestly it was a meal in itself, absolutely lovely! The quesadilla and chimichangas for mains were equally delicious and a good sized porrion too, be warned not to over order as you will need a massive appetite to finish it all.

We visit this place every time we visit the east coast. A visit is an absolute must if you love Mexican. This is probably our 7/8th visit and we recommend to everyone we know. Great quality food at very affordable prices, we dined and ordered before 6 on a weekday where you get an additional 20% off your bill, however, it’s worth every penny and more without the discount. The place itself is basic in terms of decor and is nothing special cosmetically but the food more than makes up for that. Friendly staff, quick services and great portion sizes. If you like Mexican don’t miss this place off your choices!

We enjoyed our meal here, we were surprised to be able to book a table at 3pm to eat at 7pm.Menu is massive with loads of choice for fussy kids.My chilli was really good although the spicy option was quite mild. Kids hotdog and chips was…. Hotdog and chips!Fajitas were good, not amazing but they are a simple dish really.Starters were brilliant - nachos, ribs and garlic bread. All tasty and enjoyed by kids and adults.Service maybe a little slower than ideal but I am being picky really.

Good value for money, plenty on your plate, good choice. Would definitely recommend and return to. I had a nachos sharing platter and a grand Tower Burger. Absolutely top notch!

ReviewWe went as a family of 9. Everything was perfect, from the covid measures to the service and the food. We were staying at flamingo land and wanted to venture out for something to eat and happened upon this place. Lovely place, the food was excellent and the service was 100%

This was a chance visit, never been before and just asked if they had any tables free.The smell as we entered the restaurant was wonderful and the food generous, the nacho starter for two would feed 4 easily. My main was even bigger, imagine a quesadilla made by folding a large tortilla in half and filled with chicken, cheese and vegetables. All spiced and seasoned really well. If we only come back to Malton to come here we will be back.

Was looking for a takeaway for the night and ended up booking a table here. There was a lovely smell as soon as we entered and we were seated near the bar.The portions looked massive so we opted for the express menu. The potato skins with chilli and chicken enchiladas were very tasty. My wife and daughter had the pulled pork enchiladas with rice. The rice was fresh but was only lukewarm.The staff were friendly

Love Mexican food but unfortunately this didn’t live up to expectations. If you want cheap average food then this is the place. Big portions but low in quality. Best dish was probably the ribs. Margaritas not good. Staff friendly.

Well we came across this restaurant during the day, so came back in evening. The atmosphere was so nice. The meal was very well presented, and ever so tasty. We had all over ordered, so can say, this portion size is generous!@

How sensational! We're staying on a local village campsite and ordered 3 courses for 2 of us to celebrate my birthday. The young lady on the phone was lovely and polite, she went out of her way to ensure our meal could be delivered as the distance was further than they would normaly go. The food arrived very hot, generous portions and delicious. Great value for money too. Thanks

Booked a table on the last day of 50% off food with my best friend and her daughter.havnt been for a good 2 years and despite the restaurant been booked up and very busy the food was faultless and the 2 young waitresses couldn't do enough for us. Left very satisfied ☺️

I've not had a Mexican meal like this in years the Chimichanga was amazing, we had a mixed Platter for 2 to start as shown and the mango sauce in the basket was divine. The service was fantastic, the prices were really reasonable even with a couple of drinks. We'd definitely eat here again and would recommend this to anyone who likes Mexican food. The decor is quite traditional for Tex Mex and little profiles of the Wild West characters give you a really authentic feel to the place.

Was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. Food was excellent. The menu is huge so plenty to match any dietary needs. A family of 4, we shared Nachos, Ribs and Wings to start and then chicken Fajitas, Beef Chimichanga and Ranch steak for main. The portion sizes are huge and we could not finish. Could easily share a main between an adult and child. Also did a great version of Margarita. All in all excellent value for money. Also to note, good social distancing practices in place and great staff.

Visited this place while on holiday. Booked in advance. Restaurant itself not the nicest, food was average, have tasted much better Mexican food. Had to ask for cutlery & napkins once we’d finished our nacho starter! Biggest issue for me was the absolute lack of social distancing. Tables crammed in, and people at next table were so close. We arrived first and started our meal before the other tables around us sat down otherwise I’d have gone elsewhere. Can only imagine they were trying to make maximum revenue from the 50% off scheme. There was also no track & trace details taken. Disappointing.

We went on a sunday evening and it was pretty busy all things considered with the Covid situation. The cocktails we had were great and the food was even better. It was everything we expected and more and the staff were really friendly and welcoming

This is a well attended restuarant for a reson. Great atmosphere, huge well-cooked meals and the centre of Malton. My advice is to book a table and take advantage of the great value early bird offer. You can park free for two hours in Malton market place and it is an easy walk to Saville Street.

El Gringos Brilliant little Americana / Mexican eatery. Themed out more for American western, but take that away a bit and it’s a superb atmosphere, welcoming. Food was promptly served, despite being busy and the service was excellent. Turned up without booking and glad we walked past several other options, as the food served was beyond all expectation. Great value, great sized portions, tasted great and neither of us were wanting for deserts or extras.

Great food .. loved the salsa starter .. gorgeous margueritas .. friendly and attentive staff .. will be back!

My partner and I pre booked a meal at this restaurant and it lived up to expectations. The food was excellent both in terms of quality and quantity. The waiting staff were polite and courteous and the overall atmosphere in the restaurant was friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this restaurant to lovers of Mexican food.

Stopped by on Friday night for an early doors tea,25% discount if ordered before 6pm,large menu to choose from,couldnt fault the food and service,really large portions and served piping hot,will definately call again.

We turned up in Malton not realising the hotel didn't do food, so had to find somewhere and eat here. We found this place on Google naps, called and got a table, the place was a bit lifeless, it seemed to be more of a takeaway place, lots of people collecting. There was only 1 other family. We had 2 starters, 4 mains, 2 cokes, 2 bottled beers and 1 glass of wine. This was £74, which I thought was a little on the high side. The nachos were nice, poppers you get 6. The chillie in the burrito was cumin heavy, the portions were, for me, to big, we all left a lot of food, but you might not. The 3 girls waiting tables seemed a bit disinterested, hardly surprising seeing as they had so little to do.

Whether you want to eat in or get a takeaway, El Gringo in Malton is well worth a visit. The bbq ribs a lovely. Chicken and Rib combo really tasty, or try an Elvis Dog. Plenty of choice of Mexican and South American dishes.

Good value for early eating and great menu including ribs and Mexican beers. Also kids menu was fabulous.

Oh dear. I was willing to overlook the godawful music being played and the sterile atmosphere. The menu was extensive so I figured I'd be OK on the food front. I decided to go classic and order fajitas.

Excellent service, scrumptious food and great prices. I don't eat salad usually but this has to be the best tasting salad EVER. Chef will not give away any secrets though! The ribs actually are the best I've ever had and the burgers (I assume) are a hand made pattie which again is one of the best I've tasted. Nice relaxed atmosphere and great staff.

One of a few restaurants in Malton open on Monday evenings (but closed Tuesday). Extended Mexican and Caribbean menu. Food was reasonable; service good and friendly.

Slightly rustic inside but very welcoming. The is a massive selection of food on the menu, there was 4 of us who all ordered different food, everyone was impressed. The portion sizes are very good and the food was spot one. Will return and would highly recommend.

First time here and won’t be the last time, I had the enchiladas which were gorgeous we had a sharing plater too! Everywhere was clean and the staff very helpful and knowledgable about the menu!

we went to el gringos a few weeks since we called on the off chance of a table which they found the service was fairly laid back, the food was average my wifes food was to spicy but we got the early bird discount so price was good ,i don't think we will be going back in a hurry

Food was really nice, good selection of Mexican choices. Went on a Sunday night, and was surprised that the service was slow, there were alot of takeaways being collected! Probably would get a takeaway in the future, as didn't really benefit from eating in.

We visited Malton for the evening as we were staying over in Old Malton. There are lots of restaurant choices in Malton so I was very pleased to have tried something different and eaten at El Gringos. The service was a little slow however it was a Saturday night and we hadn't booked, the staff are all quite young and seemed busy. The cocktails are worth a try and the sharing meal was really good value for £25 between a couple. There was so much food we couldn't finish, they allowed us to take home some leftover meat for the dog as it was too good to waste! My little girl is 15 months she woke up as soon as the food arrived which is just my luck, the staff promptly got me a high chair and offered to get her a little plate. She loved the food as much as we did. If we are ever in Malton again we will definitely be returning, I recommend anyone in the area gives it a try

We went to El Gringo's as my daughter had wanted to go for a long time. Unfortunately right from entering the restaurant our disappointing experience commenced.

Hadn’t been to Malton to stay over before so chose this because we love Mexican food. Was almost put off by a huge and noisy party of kids but we asked if we could move table and the staff were very accommodating. Staff team seemed to be made up of purely teenage girls running a restaurant but they were all super polite, friendly and helpful.

We ordered mexipot with the shell and extra rice/beans. You can get 20% off a takeaway and they deliver too. Recommend. If you eat in it’s perfect for family meals.

We came with a large group of 19.we knew the service would be slow as it always is..... 45 minutes wait to get our starters, not on when there are small children and the restaurant wasn't that busy. The express menu was good value with 2 courses for £8.50 and good size portions. I ordered mine with rice (the waitress said that's what it would come with although on the menu it says rice, salad or wedges) but on arrival it was with wedges. The waiter said 'there had been a problem with rice so they just replaced it with wedges, is that OK?', well no actually it would have been nice to have been given the choice before hand! Paying was a nighmare as usual as you can't pay individually with cash! On the plus side the food was good, but it always is. It's the slow service and lack of enthusiasm by the staff that let's the place down.

this little restaurant tucked away in malton is worth a visit, the food was excellent, the staff was very friendly, could do with more training though. the qualtiy of the food was amazing, the kids enjoyed theirs too, for a very reasonable price.

5 of us visited for granddaughters birthday, table was a bit cramped, quite a long wait for food, but it was busy, but when it arrived it was excellent. I had steak and ribs with fries corn on cob, onion rings, and salad. Steak and ribs were excellent.

Visited the other day with a group of friends, the food was lovely as usual and the staff lovely and friendly! Can’t wait to return again soon!

Went with family 3 adults 1 child, we had the mid were special 2 courses for 8 pounds 50 p . I had garlic bread. Followed by ribs fries and coleslaw. Loads of meat on my ribs. Nice fries two. We enjoyed our meals . Will go back soon.service was spot on too, toilets not so good though.

Many years since we were last here and service and food was still excellent. It was very busy but it all ran like clockwork. There is a vast menu which caters for all tastes. The online booking did not work for me as it was not received so it is worth making a telephone reservation.

We always get good food here so just called in without a plan. There is one small thing that blights this otherwise great little Mexican restaurant. There is always the nasty and lung damaging stink of the nail polish being applied from the salon next door while it is open. It comes through the floor boards.This fades away after 5pm but it gives me a headache. Once inside the diminutive and very nice waitresses ask to get you a drink. We have learned to grab them for your order of food at this point or it takes ages to get them back. I ordered fillet steak and my husband ordered Enchilladas. He also had a starter all for £8.50. At £17 my steak was unexpectedly small tho fair and not the huge things they used to be here. Someone has told them that more chips and less meat equals bigger profit. BUT, the food here is always great value and always tender and delicious and the waitresses are always very pleasant and helpful. It's yummy! This is the best value food and the tastiest for miles around. The puddings are also great but we literally couldn't fit one in. The wine is also excellent quality. Just don't go when the nail salon is open.

Have been going to try this restaurant for sometime and finally managed it! We went with family and really enjoyed the food and good service we received. Portions are big but quality not compromised and the staff friendly and helpful. Early bird exceptional value. Only negative - tables and seating cramped.

We just dropped in here on a a busy Friday night - just a tad slow to get our initial order in but then everything was great - large portions of good and wide-ranging Tex-mex dishes, attentive and personable service from busy staff.

Lovely service, clean and welcomingVery large and somewhat confused menu as they do southern and creole??I enjoyed our nachos but kids chicken nuggets looked a bit suspect my daughter wouldnt eat them, but the steaks we had were ok, just very rich and we opted for no carbs and still couldn't finish our meals.Would say it was good but probably would have fagitas next time

Called in Monday night without booking,quickly seated and saw the offer on the express menu of 2 courses for£8.50. Had bbq wings and the wife had the potato skins, both delicious with a tasty side salad,wife had chicken enchilada and I had the one that I can never remember [CHUMACHUNGA] or something, both again very tasty with a choice of chips,curly fries,wedges etc. Only dif we could tell from the main menu was the lack of beans but at the price was very good and filling.Very friendly and efficient service from the waitresses,only niggle was when we sat at the table in the window,we disturbed some large spiders that sent them scuttling for cover!..

We found this restaurant online before visiting Flamingo land and thought we'd give it a try. Booked online and had an email and phone call to confirm my booking. We were family of 2 adults, 2 older children and a toddler. Little car park just down the road within few minute walk which offered free parking. We did eat around 6pm on a week day so restaurant was reasonably quiet but started filling up as we were leaving. Lovely restaurant. Great ambience. Oldest children had the express menu which they were both very happy about. Son said the bbq wings starter were best he'd tasted. Other son wasn't quite sure of burger sauce as normal eats it plain and no mention of sauce included but ate it anyway and quite enjoyed it. The toddler meal (kids menu) was huge and a great price and 2 year old didn't waste anytime eating. Staff very thoughtful as asked if we would like his meal along with our starters, which was a lovely touch and very useful. Our adult meals were huge and think one of the only times I can say I couldn't actually finish, chicken cooked perfectly and whole meal delightful. Needless to say no room for deserts for any of us. Service was great and if we ever return to Flamingo land we'll return here.

Visit this place a lot with friends and family.My husband loves this place after many visits to Texas this is the most authentic tex-mex in the area.The good is great, I love the suicidal chicken chilli in a fried tortilla shell. It's that hot it makes your eyes water!The kids love the fajitas and my husband the ribs, also do combo dishes too.Great cocktails I love the margaritas here.If you love spicy food give it a go.Free parking in the market place.

So the main draw for this restaurant is the early bird offer. Basically anything you order before 6pm from the main menu get 25% off and that includes drinks (only if bought with food from the main menu). So invest in a bottle of wine or bucket of beers when you order your meal and you get a really good value Mexican meal.

I would highly recommend giving el gringo's a miss on your trip to malton. We were subjected to cold watery microwaved food and then while trying to make the best of it, we had to listen to the waiter having a extremely inappropriate conversation with his friends on the next table about the girl he pulled the night before, he went into great about it.

Came in here for dinner with my partner and we had an excellent meal. The food was well cooked and well presented and tasted great.I had the chicken and steak combo which was brilliant both the chicken and steak were cooked perfectly (I ordered the steak medium rare and that's exactly how it came). We came just in time for their meal deal so had 25% off the bill which was nice. The staff were friendly and politeI would happily eat here again.

lovely food , big big portions and a very good deal for the early birds , they also do deals for students and oaps . the food is above average and the staff are very polite and helpful we had a starter and was stuffed and took our main home witch the waiter packed for us defo go again.

It's been a while since we visited but the Maryland chicken with garlic mash has always been one of my favourite meals at any restaurant. We decided to have a family meal out here again but I was worried that I had built up the Maryland chicken in my head and was going to be disappointed when I ordered it again. How wrong could I be. Every mouth full was just as I remembered it from the last time. BIG THUMBS UP FROM ME. This restaurant keep churning out the meals the same every time and it does not disappoint. The food is tasty and authentic with plenty of variety on the menu for all.There was a mixture of couples, families and groups of all ages at 5.30pm dining when we ate, we had reserved a table prior and I advise to do so. The food and drinks were well priced and the staff were accommodating.Well worth a visit if in the area.
