He estado yendo por años y nunca decepciona.

We visited this place twice in 48 hours while staying at the Goodwood hotel. Ohh, this is genuine Spanish Tapas!!!They need to stock gluten free bread - I had to run to Tesco express about 2 miles away while our food was cooking - it would not take much to have a loaf in the freezer. However, let's get back to the wonderousness of this tapas. The majority of dishes were gluten free, so plenty of choice :-)We ordered lots of dishes - so I won't list them all here ... but we especially LOVED the mushrooms in cream and spinach. The portions sizes were good. The drinks selection and prices were good too. Stocking gluten free beer would be a bonus - Estrella do a good bottle. The chocolate pudding was divine ... but quite heavy and could easily be shared. We loved it so much we went for lunch on our way home. The road outside has some parking in bays. Due to it being in a cellar the disabled access is not good as there's quite steep stairs.

After reading some reviews about how traditional and authentic the place is, we decided to try El castizo. On arrival we were told we had to wait half an hour for a table(we hadn't booked a table)but we were there at 6pm and the restaurant was Pretty much empty,so didn't see why we had to wait 30 mins.Once we were seated we ordered drinks then are food, the food came out quite quick, and this is where the disappointment started!!The prawns in garlic and olive oil were over cooked and salty but by a considerable amount as was the pork skewers,so much so they we inedible, and the cheese and ham croquettes were ok but one had no filling at all.All in all very disappointed and don't understand where the 5 star ratings come from. Will not return as there is better Spanish restaurants about.

We have been to this restaurant a few times under the old owners / managers and have always rated it 5 star and went back. The menu was the same but it was ordinary. We had many dishes and they were just ok including the desserts. In addition we phoned to book a table at 6pm when it opened but were told that they were fully booked and we couldn't have a table until 7pm. We arrived at 6.40pm and only 2 tables were occupied in a reasonably large restaurant. We had to wait until 7pm for our other guests to arrive. After supper we drove back to London where we live and didn't arrive until 11pm and that could have been 1 hour earlier. They told us that they had a big party at 6pm that had been cancelled. They had our phone number and admitted that they should have phoned us. Additionally when I went to the toilet there was no toilet paper. I looked in the cupboard by the toilet but nothing there. So I staggered over to the cupboard under the sink with my trousers and pants down and found some loo rolls‼️I know - too much information ‼️This place has lost it‼️Don't bother going and wasting your time and money.

Fab vegetable choices.Tapas is my favourite meal and we were looking forward to going back for our anniversary (we don't go out so much nowadays!).Some of my patatas were black and tasted bad so I let the waiter know. The chef actually got him to return them back to me saying this is normal due to how much they are constantly using the oil. I was embarrassed as I don't like to have to make a fuss, and disappointed. They eventually replaced them and even took off the charge however my husband said he wouldn't book there next time.

I fail to understand why is this considered one of the best restaurants in Chichester. Although the food and service are nice there is nothing special about it and still miles away from the food you can get in Spain and other Spanish restaurants in the UK. The deco of the restaurant is the stereotypical "flamenco and bulls" from southern Spain, but I guess if you like this and you just want to eat the typical tapas : patatas bravas, calamari etc. then you will like this place. The waiters were all very nice and attentive and overall the food not bad but a bit boring and as I mentioned before, very stereotypical.

I have lived in the Chichester area since 1962. A Spanish couple we know invited to meet for a meal at El Castizo. We didn't even know it existed. We found it hidden behind a well known Georgian fasçaded house in St. Pancras. As we descended the steps into the vaulted cellar we wondered what we would find. The door and the stairs were certainly understated. It was absolutely lovely. Exposed brick walls and ceiling and the whole effect was very Spanish, which was what our friends wanted to show us.The food is totally tapas, good quality, varied choice and well presented and tasty. The service was attentive, relaxed but not intrusive. The whole experience was delightful and we will return. The prices were reasonable and we had 2 bottles of wine and a shared selection of 6 tapases with one dessert and coffees for around £25 per person including a well deserved tip.At the end we were the last to leave, but we were never hurried.Excellent!

All the food was very good, particular mention for the tortilla, chorizo and meatballs. We have lived in Chichester for many years and have only herd good things about this restaurant so decided to try it. We had a great evening with the family as the atmosphere was alive and busy. The food was great and surprisingly authentic. I did go thinking it would be a British take on tapas but was pleasantly surprised. The staff were attentive and efficient with a great front of house manager. This restaurant would be good if out with friends or popping out for an informal dinner for two. There was instant atmosphere as the interior is in a cellar so it helped the overall ambience along with large amounts of Spanish artefacts. This restaurant has a charm of its own and is a welcome change from Indian, Thai and Italian restaurants... booking is necessary as it is extremely busy, we have booked again for April and will be taking friends!

My girlfriend has been raving about this place after several trips with works colleagues and suggested we go, who am I to argueThe restaurant is a little out of the way but does have its own car parking which is handy. You go through an arch and descend into a cellar. Walls are painted white and adorned with rustic Spanish artefacts. We were shown to our table in the centre of the room a very large round table. The restaurant was very busy which may have accounted for the fact that it took the best part of 10 mins if we would like drinks and another 5 or so before they were brought out to us. While waiting for the drinks we ate the olives and bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegarWe ordered 7 dishes between the 2 of us, meatballs in tomato and cheese sauce, Spanish Omelette, Fried potatoes, Mushrooms in garlic & chilli butter, anchovies, chorizo in cider and the fish platter which consisted of whitebait, mussels, prawns & calamari The food arrived quickly what should have been hot was hot. I thought the portions were all good sizes and there was with the 7 dishes more than enough for us. The food was delicious. The meatball sauce i loved and being a fish lover quickly polished off the anchovies and the seafood in batter. For dessert my girlfirend had the creme brulee and I had the white chocolate ganache with salted caramel pistachio. both desserts were to die for and were very generous portions. After the meal we asked for the bill and card machine. eventually after getting fed up with waiting for them to bring the card machine we went to the bar to pay. I only have 2 complaints 1. The service I found was slow there were only 3 waiters/waitresses in total for what was a very busy restaurant on the Saturday night having another person to serve I think would have helped, either that or the waiter could have spent a little less time canoodling with the waitress. 2. The NOISE... it was so loud, I think its the design of the building all the walls are solid concrete and the sound just bounces around. At times I was almost having to shout across the table to talk to my girlfriend for her to hear me. Would I go again ... Yes. at a different time of day and hopefully when it is a little less busy as the food was delicious

I have to say I didn't know El Castizo existed. Easy to miss if you are not 'in the know'. Hidden in an ex wine cellar of an ex-pub it is not over-large - and is on the slight cool-side of temperature - obviously pretty old. It is reached by a new-ish looking brick staircase which is covered by a glass conservatory entrance. Good atmosphere and more importantly - very good food. Once the food starts to arrive - it doesn't seem to stop! Toilets have obviously been added - in a small corner - but perfectly good. There is also a well-stocked bar and a separate bar-seating area. No idea whether it is suitable for wheelchair users unless there is a separate entrance. Car parking is free but does form part of businesses operating daily on the site.

Oh El Castizo… Chichester’s best secret, nestled away in the corner of the city center I am always looking forward to a visit at this establishment. I have reviewed this place before but I think tonight deserves another. Came here with my brother and father who had not been before, upon my recommendation as a meal together. The service was excellent, with two friendly, charming and helpful waiters who made us feel very welcome. The male waiter (I believe his name was Will as this was the name on the receipt, if not I’m so sorry, I forgot to ask!) recommended an excellent beer for my father which was very reasonably priced. Our food came quickly which included prawns, patatas ali-oli, croquettes, spicy chickpea stew among many other dishes and none of us could fault one! Every bite was beautifully seasoned and full of flavour which complimented each other wonderfully - you know the food is good when it’s put a real smile on your face! Even though we definitely ordered more than out fill, not a single thing was left on our plates at the end of the meal. We also had three beautifully presented and tasting desserts, my white chocolate ganache pictured below. Considering how much we had eaten, the bill felt rather modest and my father was delighted by the whole experience having never had tapas before, I’m sure all of us will be returning again shortly. This place has one again hit the nail on the head and I can’t recommend or compliment it enough. Hoping all the staff have a wonderful new year!

Second visit, lovely atmosphere and music and the service is sympathetically attentive. However the food is sadly average in my opinion and several dishes lacked seasoning or real flavour. Have eaten tapas in Spain and elsewhere in the U.K. and have had much better. Probably won't return but that's not to say it's bad. Just not for us. One observation: the fire escape's efficiency is probably not best realised with chairs and customers placed directly in front....

After my first visit to El Castizo I knew I had to return here for my birthday meal with the family. My mum loves Spanish food so I was certain she'd be sold, my Dad had never tried it before but was willing to give it a go, my younger brother was most sceptical as it would be new to him too AND he suffers from coeliac (all food needs to be gluten free). There was absolutely nothing to worry about. The staff took the time to talk us through the whole menu, marking up the gluten free options (of which there were many). I was impressed by the selection on offer as this can often be a struggle for us when we eat as a family. We ordered a bottle of the house white and house red wines, both of which were perfectly delicious. Then we got ordering tapas - 3 dishes each quickly filled the table and again, the quality of the flavours and level of service were 10/10. Plates were cleared as we finished each dish and we were offered additional bread throughout, at no extra cost, which is a lovely touch and quite unusual these days. The décor is fantastic and my family commented on this more than once. It was a shame there was no live Spanish guitar this time - definitely something I will enquire about in the future. It was a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday and can't wait until I can find an excuse to go again!

Love love this place! The food is so good. We turned up on a Saturday without a booking, they had no places at the time but booked us a table for later in the evening. We went back and were not disappointed. We will return.

Me and my husband started going here over 5 years ago when we first started dating. We have loved the food from the very first time and continue to enjoy it even now. It's good value and one of our cheapest meals we have when going out. The staff have always been polite and friendly. Highly recommended.

We visited this lovely 'underground' restaurant whilst in Chichester and had a wonderful meal. All the tapas we tried were delicious and reminded us of wonderful meals enjoyed on our travels in Spain. Portions were generous and service extremely friendly. All the food came out piping hot and it was a truly enjoyable experience. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I went to El Castizo last night and enjoyed one of the best meals we have had in ages. The food is really outstanding, and the staff so friendly and helpful. They knew we wanted a pre Theatre meal, and pulled out the stops to serve us early enough for us to gently stroll to the "Festival" well on time. The food quality is knock out, and the underground setting is full of character. If you are in the lovely City of Chichester please, please do not miss this brilliant restaurant.

We turned up at 6pm for a pre-theatre meal without having booked. Charming lady said "Oh - I'll see what I can do", which surprised us because the room was empty. She then offered us a table - as long as we finished by 7:30 - which was fine with us.We had four delicious tapas between us and a couple of glasses of wine; all served in a very friendly and efficient manner. By 7pm the whole place was full - not surprisingly. We'll definitely be going back and next time we'll remember to book !

Was very excited to be going. Lived in Spain for a few years, and love the food..I loved the venue, although they had a photo of a Greek man on the wall,, it was a set price menu so I thought we would have a great selection, as you would have in a great Spanish bar. Sangria! ! I think not.. only fruit in it was tiny bits of orange. . Needed a lot more fruit.. the flavour was bland and not at all sangria, not even close. Pil-pil yuk.. no paprika at all, smallest prawns they could have ever found made of rubber and not sizzling. Potatas bravas raw in the middle. Roasted peppers, bitter and nasty. Some rubbery chicken thing I didn't get the name of. And a lot of other dishes that were either bland or raw. .To say I was disappointed is an understatement. On the evening we visited, they had two gentlemen play guitar. When they set up, I was looking forward to a bit of Spanish guitar, they played well, if you wanted to be depressed, or pretend your in an elevator .. sadly not Spanish style guitar music at all. Now to the service. . Started well, but as the place filled up, they where just throwing the dishes down, no smiles .. glad I'm going to Spain soon.. but will not visit here again. .

I enjoyed the quirkiness of the venue, which just added to the great ambience with the guys playing their guitars! Good friendly and welcoming service. A reasonable selection for veggies (which is usually my worry with tapas!)Reasonable size tapas dishes. Nothing to fault. I will definitely visit again to try more of the selection.

It was our first time here but all the staff were very welcoming and made you feel relaxed. The food is freshly prepared and great quality. We had 7 dishes between us but full after 5 of them but ploughed through anyway, followed by the churros for dessert which is plenty as a sharer. Would definitely recommend.

This gem is situated behind and to the side of a huge pale blue building in St Pancras, and is accessed by stairs leading down to what was once I believe a wine cellar. We hadn't booked but as it was early lunchtime and they'd just opened we were quickly seated. There was such a wide choice of tapas available we decided to let the waiter (also the owner!) choose a selection of half a dozen or so dishes. We're glad we did because they were sensational. Flavourful, and plentiful, in fact we probably ordered too much, but then I'm a greedy girl!We ordered wine with the meal which was served wonderfully chilled, welcome on a searingly hot day.I've been to El Castizo several times since my move to West Sussex and I've never been disappointed. It's friendly, has a great ambience and the food is wonderful and very reasonably priced. Be aware they're open five days a week - Tuesday to Saturday. Highly recommended.

We have loved this place for so so long. It was the best around and deserving of #1. Tonight, the food was poor, the croquettes reminded me of when I got 10 for a euro in Granada - equally as bad. The alioli was more like warm cheese sauce served in the cinema. The red wine was terrible. Upon responding to the manager enquiring if all was good and replying that we felt it wasn't as good as it used to be, she promptly walked off and talked about us to a colleague. Where was the owner who always greets you and ensures you have the best time? Good luck El Castizo, we shall miss you.

Everything we ate was good quality with generous portions and a real variety of dishes to choose from . I'd go again in a heartbeat

After numerous excellent previous visits over the years, on a revisit to Chichester this was a disappointing evening. Apart from 2 dishes (meatballs and tortilla with chorizo), the food was average. However, the most disappointing was the feeling that we were rushed to order, rushed to eat an generally it did not feel like a pleasant experience. It wasn't too busy at first but a large birthday party was booked which dominated the evening. Do not deserve number 1 status on trip advisor imo.

I have eaten here twice and I have to say its some of the best Tapas food I have eaten including in Spain! The staff are delightful and the service is excellent, my only comment and the reason for the average score is that at busy times you cannot have a conversation with your fellow dinners. The underground cellar is a unique venue but there is no sound deadening and so as the noise gets louder as the restaurant gets busier you have to start raising your voice to make yourself heard and then it escalates from there. A shame really as I would like to use this eatery more but I wont go if I cannot talk to my guest without shouting.

Great atmosphere, lovely staff and most important of all, fantastic food. We arrived bang on 6pm and the staff were very welcoming and the room quickly filled up. The food arrived really quickly, once we had decided what to order as there was so much choice, and the staff were attentive enough to ensure you had everything you needed but didn't hover or appear over-bearing, which is often a hard balance to achieve. The food was simply delicious and extremely great value. Would definitely recommend to all visiting Chichester.

The food is great, the service is fab, but as you are in a cellar there is no mobile signal (not good for the babysitter) also the acoustics mean that you can hear the far tables conversation louder than that of your own table. Great food but not great if you want to converse with your fellow diners

My wife and I booked to dine at this restaurant following its high position on TA and also previous reviews. On arrival we were shown to our table and someone took a drinks order. It was really busy and consequently we waited ages for someone to come and take our meal order. No problem, we weren't going any where after and we took the manyana (not sure of the spelling) approach as when in Rome and all that. When the food arrived almost an hour after we arrived, we were very disappointed. We had ordered 6 Tapas dishes and they were as follows:Potatoes in aioli - Potatoes raw and aioli was just mayo with raw garlic in, it was un like any aioli either of us had previously tried and was really salty and quite unpleasant.Chorizo - this was okKing Prawns - Slightly undercooked and quite tough but ok ishChicken and Potatoes - Potato again raw and chicken overlooked and dry and toughMeatballs - Meatball ok but they were in a very sweet creamy sauce which was again unpleasant. Smoked Haddock in sauce - cannot comment as it didn't turn up! After we had reminded staff we were a dish light about a third of the way through eating the other dishes, when it did not turn up by the time we had finished, my wife cancelled it. The waitress was rather indignant and could not understand why we no longer wanted the dish.Rather disappointed but there you go!

Bit of bizarre experience. Attended at 8:30pm on holiday weekend to check if there was a table available. Female waitress asked if we booked and as we hadn't she stated they had no room and a full sitting was due despite the fact there was dozens of tables free. This was strange as they had entertainment and I couldn't believe 70 people were about to attend. We got a take away elsewhere and looked back later in to find none of the tables had been taken as the waitress had stated. It was abundantly clear she lied about the next 9pm sitting. She looked shocked when we popped our head in again as we all knew it was not true. It's their restaurant and up to them when to accept customers but I feel this was not a manager just a lazy waitress getting rid of customers so she can have an earlier home time. Next day we attended at midday and pretty empty and got a table and had lovely cocktails and food. Would highly recommend this restaurant (as long as you are not greeted by the lazy and inexperienced hostess who doesn't care about customers or if the owners make money) The following day we tried to get a delivery stated on website they provide but not only do they not deliver they turned down us collecting food as well. Great place and great food but if I was the owner I would be horrified a couple of staff turn down trade so easily.

My son recommended that we came here as he had been several times in the past, and I can see why! Lovely spacious restaurant with great decor and a varied and interesting menu. We all went for the Tapas and were blown away by it. Too many to mention, and all were so good. We will be back. The staff were very efficient and friendly and took the time the talk to my young granddaughter, making her an honorary waitress for the meal. Thanks to everyone, an enjoyable evening.
