Knew all about this place way back in the 1970’s……. Never seemed to get it together to visit 🙁 Popped in today near to their closing, not hurried, two pies, two mash and properly good thick gravy…….. not being a liquor fan myself. Washed down with a mug of coffee 🙂🇬🇧 Great pies, great mash, great gravy…… great history 🥳 A London culinary institution 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I’m no great Pie’n Mash expert…… but easily the best, friendliest one I’ve experienced…….

I'm retired and once a week visit a new pie shop . I've been to 35 now and for value and flavour there isn't a better pie shop . Cheap in this case does not mean nasty . On average a pound cheaper for pie and mash than the rest .

Usually first class pie and mash and the best since Nathan's. However, I visited on matchday as usual and found the pies to be subpar, lacking in filling with nasty watery gravy. Didn't want to write this but they need to know as it wasn't up to scratch. Maybe just a bad batch, who knows? We were there on 12/11/22 at about one o'clock, just before the Leicester game. We ordered 2 x double pie and mash and all four pies were of the same poor quality.

A worthy successor to Nathan's. The new match day ritual. Old school pie and mash. No nonsense. Bloody lovely!

I brought eels & mash to take to an elderly lady in hospital who hadn’t eaten for 2 days! Pleased to say she ate the lot. They were served fresh and hot Thank You for making her day 👏🏼

Used to go to Nathan's on matchday of course but now sadly gone. Look no further than here for fab pie and mash now. The new matchday ritual.

I used to live in Forest Gate, so I may have developed a taste specifically for this place. I have tried Pie and Mash at many houses in the East End, but this is always the one to which I return, and collect 3 dozen frozens to take away, when I'm passing. It's not as cheap as it used to be, but it's still worth every penny. Also, I like to bring people here who have never tried it before, and EVERYONE has ALWAYS gone back up for a second serving. Say no more!

The best pie mash shop in London. Proper mince and gravy in pies... chilli vinegar too! Plus you can have a cuppa tea! Mouth watering fare!!

Visited today for pre-football lunch. Haven’t had pie this good since AJ Cookes closed down. Mash, eels and liquor were lovely and it was a great cup of tea too. Highly recommended.

Grow up on this shops pie mash from a baby in bow, 47 years on, still love pie mash from this shop, if they did internet orders i would be all over as I can not get to London as much as I would like. Need internet orders. Lol

Made the mistake last weekend of taking my dad for pie and mash at Kelly's along Bethnal Green Road and it was undoubtedly the worst pie and mash we gave ever had, avoid like the plague. We then took my dad for pie and mash here and it was like chalk and cheese with this being probably the best pie and mash we have had in a very long time so would highly recommend this to anyone.

This is the best Pie and Mash locally, by far! I have been here at least 30 times. Double and double with liquor is around £5.50,excellent value! Pies are meaty, well cooked without being over done. Mash soft and fluffy.

After 2 weeks on holiday , could not wait to get the taste of real comfort food . Never bettered or equaled !

Have tried finding another pie and mash shop to eat in since moving from the area but every time it's been a disappointment in comparison so we will keep coming back to our favourite .

I have eaten here for about 12 years. The food is always hot, almost instant and very good value. I have recommended it many times to friends very often.

Pie, mash and liquor, to eat in or take away. Eels also available. Top quality lunch. What more can I say?

this is hands down the best pie and mash ever. so quick to serve, you’re in and out in no time. parking can sometimes be a bit difficult, but there is a big parking lot about a 5 min walk away

Me corté los dientes en la sucursal de este negocio original familia cuando estaba basado en Bow Road, de lazo. Fue reconfortante ver que algunos de los bancos de la red de madera pintados que probablemente se sentaron en un niño todavía estaban allí como un par de mesas de mármol. Era más nostalgia que me hace dar este lugar 5 estrellas, sin duda juega un papel, pero el servicio junto con el sabor es muy bueno. Estaba tomando a lo largo de las dos personas que nunca han experimentado antes y puré tarta así explicó que lo que necesitas para que tu mente rápido mientras estaban en la cola, no hay tiempo para exquisiteces, conseguir su orden de salida lo antes posible. Todos nos fuimos para 'doble, dobles y licores tres veces" (doble tarta, puré doble y licores (verde salsa salsa hecha con perejil). Le expliqué a mi otros comensales que lo hecho - si eres un verdadero East Ender - era poner el vinagre. Había un par de extraño aspecto, luego que lo intentaron. Digamos, cinco minutos más tarde, tres platos vacíos, casi lamieron los limpia. Yo podría haber ido 'doble doble', disfruté mucho. Me explicó que hace años, los niños fueron llevados a el Restaurante bow y un plato de puré alimentados y licores, este era su inicio. Fue maravilloso cuando de repente vimos la señora detrás de nosotros haciendo justo eso, dar su bebé y licores y puré que estaba enamorado de él, sí bebé ella era! Sí, es un poco fuera de la ciudad, sí, es un viaje en la línea Central, este probablemente más que la mayoría de las personas sólo se atrevió jamás, pero de vez en cuando vale la pena cerrar los ojos, sentarse en un banco de madera roja, que sentir la mesa de mármol, oír las voces preciosas y sueño de East End como era. Días felices. Volveremos. Gracias. Mantenerlo auténtico. Lo mejor es que puedes comprar pasteles para congelar en casa.

I admit im a little baised as I've been eating here since before I could see over the counter. I have tried P&M; all across London and Essex and this is still my no. 1 and a must for and pie and mash fan.

Tío y tía he estado yendo allí durante años. Ahora tanto en sus 80s y tanto en sillas de ruedas nos dieron una cálida bienvenida y ayudó a la tienda. Los cinco de nosotros comer de todo y las porciones eran buena, caliente y sabrosa, y el servicio fue excelente.

Staff friendly enough. Pies ok. Portions small. Eels sliced so thin so end up being totally over cooked. But cheap and filling

Missus brought me back a portion of eels. Best yet a bit of vinegar and pepper lovely. Next time I will be with her and I will be in for pie and mash.

El pastel n puré era preciosa no hay quejas. Sin embargo, la chica que nos servía era muy, muy miserable inútil hicieron sentir como si estuviéramos en su camino! Así que se puede decir que buen trabajo tu tarta n mash es bueno porque si no era que por ahora cerrado. Mi opinión es que alguien con una sonrisa y actitud alegre. Yo nunca volveré allí enviaré a alguien para conseguirlo por mí!

I love pie and mash and after extensive research, and eating a lot of pies, this is the best. No frills, they sell pie, mash, eels and soft drinks. Perfect!

when I was a kid always went on week end with my mum & dad, I now live in Canada & when I fly back to uk my 1st stop is to have pie mash in Leytonstone as any one who was born in the east end will tell to eat here . I myself when In Canada I dream of pie mash, I lived back in Essex for a time and would go once a week & buying 30 pies to take home . I have over the years eaten in lots of pie mash shops but the eel & pie house is the best I am writing this review in Canada looking to return back to England soon for a visit & my first stop we be to the pie shop if you want to dine on the best pie & mash get yourself to leytonstone

Only knew about this place through my partner and we have been coming here 3/4 times a week since new year cannot resist the pie and mash and the amazing liquor it fills you up and keeps you going till dinner mash is potatoes pie is cooked crispy inside is oozy with mincemeat and the juices liquor is lovely not to thick or too watery definitely recommend

Traditional food and decor, limited menu but very good quality and very tasty. Has home made and excellent beef pies, genuine eels and liquor and at cheap prices too. I try to call in whenever I am in the area.

This is a throwback from the sixties east end proper pies and licker gravy. What can I say the pies are Pucker (not Pucka!) made on the day and taste jubbly So up the apple and pairs after a sherbet and enjoy the best of the east. I've been told that guys come from Romford and further to pick them up and others who gave moved away bring a cool box and grab a dozen when in the area. For me and my lot it's what you would expect just proper. But let's not forget the mash sure Nash is mash but no this is mash lots of cream butter and pepper I think it's better than the pie. So that's it. As for eels and that lark don't ask me as that turns my stomach even thinking of it !!

Great food shop. Not changed much since my mum worked there in the sixty. With its wooden bench seats,old marble top tables.this place is history. 3n3 please, plenty chilli vinegar. Just off leytonstone high Rd, West St E11. Try it you won't be disappointed, unless you have no taste buds

As a 70 year old East Ender who has been to many Pie and Mash shops , I can assure you this is simply the best. I have been a regular for many years as have many of my family and friends. The quality of the pies, mash and liquor is consistently excellent. The stewed eels are great as well. Friendly service and lovely chilli vinegar!!

If you've never had pie and mash this is the place to go I am a proper cockney from Bethnal Green and this shop is the nearest you will get to traditional cockney fare I've eaten here on a regular basis for years and never had a bad meal and the value for money is outstanding try anything from the menu it will be great

This is a traditional eel pie house so if you are looking for a choice then this is not the place for you. It's eel and mash or pie and mash, that's it.The pies were nice and juicy and the mash was very smooth plus lashings of liquor and the bench seating just adds to the atmosphere.

It's a traditional shop with uncomfortable seats ( I think that's traditional as well )Pie was nice, Mash was nice, liquor was nice all tasty.It's just one of those things you should do if you get a chance.Its bland food when you compare it to modern expectations as its not heavily seasoned but I think that's part of the tradition

Apparently a noted traditional eel and pie house. Its like stepping back in time, many decades . The pies are small and not particularly tasty. The mash is fine and the green liquour, indescribable. These places are however very popular, and should be tried. It is clearly an acquired taste.The browning on the pie is reminiscent of the ears of Mickey Mouse. Sums it up nicely.

We were recommended and we were aware of some good reviews elsewhere. It is a different experience, but the food was petty poor. I had the two pies and two mash option, with liquor. Still not sure what the liquor was made of, there was lots of the shiny greenish sauce and tasted of very little.I took a photo of my dish and the browning on the pie was similar to a Mickey Mouse silhouette. Very apt!

I have to say i eat here on a weekly basis! I have tried most of the menu and there is nothing i havent liked. My fave being the big breakfast. Lovely staff, a down to earth place!

Whenever we visit friends in Kent, we head for Eel Pie Island - pie and mash to die for - piping hot and served by nice friendly staff. There is a varied menu and all the food looks delicious, especially the vegetables. However, as we now live in Norfolk and pie and mash are not readily available there, this little bit of "London" is a must visit when we are around the Gillingham area.

What a gem in Gillingham High Street. The food is excellent, well priced and the best pie and mash outside London!! On a nice day try sitting in the garden at the back, a real hidden treasure. The staff are polite and service quick and efficient. Try the shepherds pie, its delicious!!All in all one of the nicest cafes in the Medway towns, don't miss it.
