Edwina's Cakes in Richmondshire

Lemon drizzle cake and ginger cake ate both too die for. The rest aren't bad either. The coffees aren't the most expensive in Richmond, but I think they're the best.

Stumbled across this lovely bakery around a corner when house hunting. Edwina stopped off from baking to serve us - we could see her kitchen from the counter. Really enjoyed her simnel tart, which I have never tried before. Her simnel cake is the best I’ve ever tasted!! Friendly service and great coffee too!

Had a tour around Richmond and passed this place so popped in for coffee and cakes. Lovely welcome and lovely cakes. Hope Covid doesn’t upset them too much.

Excellent bakery and coffee shop that has an wide range of cakes. Eat in or take away. Very good value. Custard slices especially recommended.

Ah please guys.... found you on google maps and was so looking forward to cake before travelling on but what no chocolate?????? Had a lovely cake and a hot chocky at Edwina’s today. Cake selection was superb and the hot chocolate warmed me up in this cold Sunday afternoon. Scones was mega and defo recommend the peanut butter slice . We will be returning

What a fantastic cafe/cake shop. Edwina baked two of the best chocolate logs I have ever tasted. The grandchildren and family thoroughly enjoyed them. Thank you.

Called in between bus journeys. Edwina served her home made cakes with pride. The range was enough to tempt anyone. My Eccles cake was served with whipped cream and the most delicious Americano coffee. Definitely worth a visit to eat in or take home.

First visit to Richmond and dear traveller you know what it’s like looking for that ‘somewhere’ that will deliver good service and quality produce, well look no further Edwina’s delivers on all of these.As a newbie in town I know there will be other places in town that may equal but as they say first impression counts for more.As a lover of good flavour coffee I asked for a double shot latte which was created and served perfectly.What more could be asked,well when we go back the cakes will be fair game as they looked scrumptious!

gosh last friday night was spent eating cakes cakes cakes, do not judge us, you must try anything that you want. fair prices,and boxed up cakes to take home. god help me and my diet... who cares, today i do not yum yum, this place is a sin but you will be forgiven i promise. please visit xx

If you like to have a coffee with a nice cake, Try Edwina’s in Richmond as they have the biggest selection of home made cakes, buns and biscuits. They cater for gluten free and vegetarians. The staff are very nice and there prices are very very reasonable. They don’t serve meals but you can get a nice sandwich.

Four of us each chose different cakes from the amazing range available. They were all great, as was the coffee, hot chocolate and comfy sofas. We'll certainly go back the next time we visit Richmond.

We have been going to here for years to get cakes for the grandchildren’s cake 21 years and the cakes are fabulous I have never found any offer cake please that does the cakes as well have these peaple

What an absolute delight to find this cafe in Richmond. The cakes and bakes are all cooked on the premises and the prices are excellent value for money. You will find it difficult not to buy something extra to takeaway. We had to! Lovely coffee served too. Definitely popular with the locals, which is always a good sign. We will be back on our next visit to Richmond.

What a delightful find! We stopped on Sunday morning for coffee. Delicious coffee at a reasonable price. The homemade cakes are varied and delicious. Edwina also makes beautiful cakes to order. We sat on the comfy sofas reading her brilliant Food magazines then purchased a variety of cakes to go. The Cream Egg Scotch Egg was a very sweet treat.

Would highly recommend for gf cakes the caramel shortbread was amazing! Nothing was too much trouble and i could see the people baking in the kitchen which was a nice homely touch. Wish we llived nearer!

Almost hidden around a corner from the Market Square, this tiny shop and tea room is well worth a visit. A huge selection of cakes - you can see them being prepared in the back room - and excellent coffee. Helpful friendly staff.

After passing the shop several times as we looked round Richmond, we just had to call in and buy some of the delicious looking cakes to take home. We were not disappointed.

Lovely little cake shop to have lunch. Prices are very good and there is plenty of cakes and slices to choose from. Limited in rolls and cold drinks but we found enough for us. Service was wonderful . Would return for sure ..

Edwina's cakes has a huge selection of cakes, and goodies, including gluten free. It smelt lovely when we walked in. Its just a stones throw from the Richmond Museum so perfect for elevenses or lunch after a visit to the museum.

Lots of choices of tray bakes, brownies, biscuits and more . We had traditional style jam biscuits, a vanilla slice and a brownie and all were fantastic. Good coffee too. We found the prices to be very reasonable and even came back today for some to take home. Thank you Edwina !

Have ordered special cakes from here on several occasions. Always perfect - icing, decoration, and service. Not too expensive, either.

We called today for tea and cake. Unusually there was a great choice of fruit teas as well as more conventional tea. The eccles cake and rhubarb and custard tart were both outstanding. All for just over £5! Service was efficient and friendly. Worth seeking out.

Arrive in Richmond late in the afternoon - about 10 to 5 - so thought we'd be too late to find any cafes open. But Edwina's was there, with its super-squishy sofa and no rush. The cakes were fab!

We had cakes from Edwina to take home. My almond tart was delicious, I don't see these very often so was delighted to spot one and couldn't resist. All the cakes on display looked lovely. Definitely worth stopping by.

Found this great tea/coffee shop and cake baker by accident on a visit to Richmond but what a find. Terrific selection of superbly baked cakes, pastries, buns and biscuits all on premises. Tea was good quality, all served by cheerful friendly staff and consumed in a quiet space with large sofas for a relaxed ambience. Prices were very reasonable so, being impressed, returned the next day for more of the same - simply superb!

Stopped for coffee and cake whilst visiting the town in torrential rain....great to dry off and the choice of cakes was awesome and excellent value too. Had to eat one there and bring some for home on another day. Lovely warm welcome from Edwina too. Highly recommend.

Our first visit and it was excellent. we had been to the Richmonshire museum nearby and we asked the lady somewhere for a coffee. what a discovery, sat and had a really good coffee and having looked at the wonderful cakes decided on the fresh cream éclairs. Fantastic and fresh. Such a good assortment of every kind of cake imaginable and the service was so friendly. Great prices and relaxed comfy seating. can definitely recommend a visit. The have homemade sandwiches as well but save room for a cake. The cakes are inexpensive and good sizes. well worth going and indulging.

ordered from this cake shop in last December and again the cake was awesome. My little daughter was so impressed as I was too. There are no other names to look around if Edwina's Cakes is there to order a cake of my choice. excellent cakes with friendly staff and they also offer you help to order a cake of your choice as well. And other thing is the cakes are cheap...

I love to visit here when I’m in Richmond as they have such a tasty range of cakes at good prices. I had a hot chocolate with cream, and a creme egg brownie which was very nice. Bargain for £4 as well.

Every visit to Richmond requires a trip to Edwinas! Great selection of tray bakes, with the peanut butter slice being my personal favourite. My wife always requires the gigantic custard slice and my daughter the delicious gingerbread men. Great coffee and Edwina makes fantastic personalised cakes for every special occasion. I require more cake now!

This amazing lady works every hour and with her daughter, they produce amazing cakes, but now they are their own little coffee shop!!! Try it once and you will return!!!

Always call in for a coffee and cake when we're in Richmond and thought it was about time I wrote a review. The service is always friendly and the selection of cakes is extensive and all made on the premises. The Eccles cakes are my favourite, but think they're popular as they seem to sell out quickly. Coffee is good too and everything is good value for money.

My family and I have used Edwina's for a long time we have had many birthday cake and other cakes and all have been cooked and decorated to perfection

You must call here if you enjoy cakes they are freshly made and they taste amazing.The kids really enjoyed them.

Called in on the "off chance" that Edwina could come up with something at short notice to help celebrate my mum's surprise 70th Birthday... Mum is aka Crazy Parrot Lady from TV ... Yorkshire Vet Series with Dougie the ASBO Parrot ... Naturally I asked for an Amazon Green coloured cake ... but Edwina & Co were happy to indulge with a Parrot Shaped cake... instruction left to Google "Dougie the Yorkshire Parrot" for some ideas ... Result was far better than we imagined as per photo & mum was overwhelmed (as Dougie wasn't invited in person to surprise party!) Cake was lemon sponge as Dougie is mostly yellow & green & was AMAZING! Everyone has commented on just how good it is... Thank You Soooooo Much for helping to make a Surprise Birthday Get together.... so very special

very experienced cake maker in the town - I always order from this cake shop for any occasions - if it is a festive season, you have to ring them or visit the shop few days earlier. definitely recomend.

Edwina's makes the best sweets in town and excellent coffee and teas. Plus, there are comfortable couches while you enjoy the food. And if you're looking for a celebration cake, book early as they often are fully committed.

Really like this place, small friendly and clean. Friendly staff and lovely cakes..only has 3 tables with settees, but this adds the niceness as its not packed when seated..

I received one of Edwina's beautiful and delicious personalised cakes for my 21st Birthday and was not disappointed! The cake was beautiful, Victoria sponge cake decorated with cream icing, sweet peas and flowers. A brilliant birthday surprise!

We were in Richmond for 5 days and just wish i had gone here earlier. I love coffee and this was easily the best i had during my stay in Yorks and i tried lots.This is a friendly bakery lovely people and Edwina makes sugar free cakes as well as just about every variety of confection imaginable.After a walk this place is a must a coffee lovers paradise.

This lovely little place sells a wide range of delicious homemade cakes and fantastic coffee, but sadly I will not be returning. On entering the shop I could see an open kitchen where the baking for the shop is prepared, and the kitchen was spotless. However I was horrified when after ordering and paying for my coffee and choice of cake the very pleasant girl behind the counter used her hands to put my cake on the plate after just handling money. I watched the girl serve other customers and she did exactly the same. No cake tongs or food handling gloves in sight, which I'm afraid is unhygienic and a poor food safety practice.

I'm very disappointed to be writing this review as previous cakes we have had from this place have been great! My family ordered my birthday cake from here last week and were told they could collect this at 12 noon. When they arrived to collect it before we went out for a meal she was met with some very rude members of staff who told her it wasn't ready and she had never said it would be ready by 12, she had said 2. My Mum was massively disappointed because it meant I had to be told about the cake so that we could collect it after our meal. When we finally saw the cake we were massively disappointed. You don't expect to pay over £20 for icing that hasn't set and cracks in the fondant. Having said that- the sponge cake inside was lovely! We won't be using Edwina's again which is a massive shame because we used to get cakes from them for many different occasions.

Brilliant tea shop with great choice of sweets and cakes. The coffee is great too, but there is also a selection of Teas, and other drinks. Comfy seating mostly on sofas. The staff are friendly and service is excellent.

Unbelievable tasting treats and special occasions cakes with a hugh range to suit all. It has a small coffee area also but you cant resist taking a treat home. My grandchildren wont agree to hairdressers unless cake included!!

We bought cakes here to take out. It was a lovely coffee shop and we will make a point of visiting next time we are in Richmond. Cakes were good especially the millionaire shortbread.

I ordered a cake for my husband's 40th birthday 2 weeks before the actual party took place. I was assured that the cake will be ready for me to collect at 9am on that day. 2 weeks later, I arrived at 9am to collect the cake which apparently wasn't ready in fact they even made a start on the cake. I was in shock horror! I could have cried. It took me weeks to organise my husband's birthday to find out that I had no cake. So I asked the young girl behind the counter what was I suppose to do as I expected the cake to be ready and I gave them 2 weeks notice. An older lady suddenly approached the counter and spoke to me very rudely and said that I could go somewhere else if I wasn't happy! This lady I was told is the owner. I was stunned to see that they not only failed to produce the cake which should have been ready but with also the careless and rude attitude of the owner. I will NEVER nor recommend that place to anyone!

I came here in the autumn of last year to buy a custom designed cake as i was leaving my job to go to university and the staff were very helpful in designing and baking the cake to the specification. The end result was superb and the price exceptional. I can highly recommend this shop if you want to order a cake or fancy a sweet treat to go or to eat in.

Edwina's is more of a cake shop than a restaurant. Her home made cakes are wonderful. The coffee etc available in her shop are fine but her take home cakes are legendary.

Our working group stumbled on this little shop late afternoon on a Sunday after a 7 mile walk in the area. It was quite a find!Lovely tea and coffee and really nice cakes (I sampled the Rock Bun and the Chocolate Brownies - justified by the walk!?)Quite a number of cakes were then bought and pushed into rucksacks for later consumption.

We were in Richmond just for a day out and popped in for a quick cuppa. The selection of cakes available was huge and very well priced in my opinion. The rocky road which I had was tremendous. Highly recommended.

I can't have a visit to Richmond without frequenting the shop. I've been many times, and every time the staff are patient while I agonise over decisions... So many fantastic cakes and sweets to choose from... Where to begin!!!! I highly recommend any lover of anything sweet to cross the threshold into cake heaven.

We stumbled across this coffee shop slightly off the main square but what a find. A vast choice of homemade cakes all at reasonable prices. We tried the brownie topped with chunks of fudge but there is also mars bar or roll topped. 2 drinks and 2 cakes for a fiver. Also very pleasant service.

We found this by mistake really...on bank holiday Monday. We were very pleasantly surprised by the huge range of cakes of offer to accompany our cups of tea.The tea was good - with a good amount of tea in each pot.The cakes were AWESOME! And reasonably priced too. Next time we visit we will be buying more cakes to take away too (but we had many cakes already at home this particular weekend)!Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely delicious cakes, wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Lots of choice of small cupcakes in store but they also make birthday cakes, wedding cakes etc. Had a bespoke cake made for a friend's birthday and they got the design just right from the photos I had given them. Very reasonably priced too!

What a fantastic service and very helpful. I requested a Alice in wonderland birthday cake 3 tier showed pictures what I wanted for my daughter who was going to be turning 3. As I was ordering my daughter was drooling over the cakes and biscuits that were on the counter. There was lots to choose from she finally decided a shortbread biscuit. It melted in your mouth would definitely be buying them again. When we collected the cake the service was excellent thanks again.

Been getting cakes from Edwina since she started as a side line. It's been great to see the shop grow and grow and move to the shop they are in now. We get birthday cakes christening cakes, pop in for coffee or a weekend treat! Try the rest, then come here to Edwinas!!!!

Lovely smell as I walked in. Was served by a young girl who didnt smile once. Was then aporoached by member of staff in the kitchen. Not a smile or anything..come across quite rude and abrupt.

Stopped us late on a Sunday afternoon for a drink and cake. Good value, yummy custard slices and good drinks. Your only challenge will be picking which cake to have and getting out of the rather low sofa!

I have been using Edwina's for many years for my childrens birthday cakes, never had a problem. Always able to cater for what I ask, no is never an option. The staff work above and beyond to make it as you want. I am due to pick up another cake for my daughters 21st this week and can't wait to see it.

We got married in September 2011 and Edwina made our cake, I supplied a picture of my husband and I as the little people on top were to look like us.When I saw the cake at our wedding, and this was the first time I had seen it, we were left speechless, it was gorgeous exactly how we had asked and my husband an I loved the little people.We've also had cakes for birthday's and never had a bad cake from Edwina's, and her cakes that are sold in the shop are so tasty and especially the flap jack mmmmm :)

We've had a few cakes made by Edwinas cakes & had no problems whatsoever. Cakes have always been yummy, fantastic value for money & instructions followed to the dot. Would not go anywhere else for our cakes and we'll be returning again & again :)

right were do you want me to start the staff are well trained the cakes are to die for the coffee is excellent best bakewells in England as for wedding cakes ive seen lots of lovely ones i thought I might have got a slice of wedding cake when this numpty brought his cake back in and said it fell apart on transit , asked were the cake was I was astounded to hear it was on his knee . another cake was made for this person and same result on the seat this time .we all know a cake has to be laid flat . he must have been going to a circus not a wedding !!

Did the wedding cake for our daughters wedding and the bottom layer cracked and fell apart not once but twice non of the tiers were central and the instructions had not been followed (a photo was supplied) not impressed

Edwina made my sons wedding cake for 30 august. It was an intricate lace design. The attention to detail was wonderful. The colour matched the bridesmaid dresses perfectly(lilac). I cannot describe how delicious all the sponge tiers were (lemon, chocolate and strawberry). Edwinas is a must if you want something special or a coffee and a treat.

Our daughters wedding cake was a chocolate, raspberry topped heart. Absolutely beautiful and so unusual. It was perfect for her summer wedding. It was so light and delicious. If you use edwinas I am sure you won't be disappointed.
