Edwards Plaice in Herefordshire, County of

I purchased fish and chips on Good Friday and was very disappointed with the quality of the fish. I purchased one large fish with chips and one small fish with chips. The two fishes were the same size and the fish was not as tasty as it usually is. Very disappointed with our dinner.

Chips are tasty and plentiful. The Ultimate vegan burger was nicely spicy. £16 for 2 burgers and one portion of chips. Accept cash indoors otherwise there is a terminal outside for card payments. Staff seemed very happy in their work.

Ordered cheesy chips. Got a container full of chips and about 5 curls of grated cheese.... This is the second time I've been disappointed here

Always thaught this is the best chippie in hereford,till last night (thursday 8th feb) not seen no cook before and hope not to again.. fish and chips at £11.80 is not cheap at all, to have to put half in bin is not acceptable, waited well over 10 mins for fish to be cooked,batter was like pork scratchings and flesh well over cooked,as i dont have vinegar it did not soften the piece,they thaught would at all,wont rush back again on a thursday...

Went here in a recommendation from a local. Chips were spot on , fish wasn't up to scratch. Paid £12 for fish and chips which is outrageous tbh

Usually really good apart from everytime I use the kiosk outside and tick the salt and vinegar box they never add it. Chipshop with no salt and vinegar equals rubbish. When they actually do add salt and vinegar its the nest in town

Was good chips but got there just before closing, staff instructed us to order at a machine outside rather than face to face and then once the closing time passed of 21:00 they shouted at me ordering me to go into the shop next door and ‘get a chocolate bar and cash back’ to pay for the food they had ‘already prepared’

Ordered chicken kebab , got home to find it completely dried up and inedible! ( not like its cheap either) Took it back to them, the man cooking looked at it and said what's wrong with it? It looked like bits of old dry leather ..no apology nothing just shrugged Rude and overpriced

This was always my Mums fave place, before she passed, and as it would have been her birthday, I always like to get these from the best Chippy in town, even if it is a cross the river from me. Yes it’s a bit pricy, but the quality is leaps and bounds above the others. Chips are always fresh, and the batter always crispy with a flaky moist cod inside. Happy heavenly birthday, Mum

Excellent food, mostly freshly cooked to order. There is a good outdoor seating area where you can order food and pay by card using the machine, or you can order inside and pay with cash. The menu is varied, so there is something to suit most people. If you can't make it to the shop, there is always the option of ordering on line and having food delivered.

Portion have become alot smaller and very expensive. Good staff

Fish was lovely but the chips were a let down! Soggy and not fresh. Portions are small for the amount of money they charge.

Amazing fish and chips! Nothing else to add, the fish is perfect and the portions are generous. I advise to go for the cod with regular chips with salt for the first timers. Enjoy!

We visited for lunch on the road on a work day. Staff are friendly and fast service. Fresh cooked fish etc as a fast turnover with locals by the look. It's a small chippy with big flavours. My new favourite 😁 prices are good quality is excellent

Just had a takeaway, I've only heard great things so possibly on this occasion it was a one off, we had mixed kabab in naan bread, mixed kabab and chips, 1/4 burger and chips, 2 x battered sausage, firstly let me say the battered sausages was lovely, the mixed meat was very dry, the naan wasn't to bad, and the chips just wasn't very nice, the burger was just like a fair burger (very cheap) all 3 of us had the food and all wasn't impressed and won't return. Hopefully this was just a one off

Top drawer take away. I seriously recommend the Chicken Tikka with hot chilli sauce if you want your mouth to tingle afterwards 😊. Friendly service and a professional outfit!

Had a takeaway last night. I ordered chips and vegan burger. Best chips in Hereford. So happy I’ve found a chippy that does a vegan burger 🙂

Used for the first time 2 days ago, had cod and chips for two. Both my wife and I really enjoyed them, excellent! Only dropped a star as it's cash only. Well worth visiting!

We ordered our meal but sadly only received part of order I ordered cod and chips only received a portion of chips missing cod but in the bag was curry sauce which I never ordered tried ringing but went to voice mail so emailed no rresponse . Spoke next day to a person who's attitude was very rude. So they have not refunded me as yet. Will not recommend them at all.

Absolutely grate place! The only thing that let this place down Is you can pay by card! And the one stop cash point isn't always available

Sorry but this was an appalling experience tonight. We’ve ordered regularly from you guys, with no problem before now. But tonight, we paid online for an order that never arrived despite the email confirming that it had. When I called up, Deliveroo was apparently to blame and I had to deal with them (they’re not answering the phone right now, by the way ). So we’ve paid around £12-14 for something that never arrived, and a sub contractor who can’t answer the phone are responsible? Sorry, but you’ve lost our custom as of now. I do understand you deal with third party companies, but for goodness sake make sure they’re reliable if your taking (and not refunding) payments from disaffected customers.

Food is nice, portions are generous and the staff are nice. Parking is poor and creates problems along a very busy town road. So I always walk.

Staff discriminate against those with hidden disabilities, due to not wearing a mask. All staff lack the correct details about the Government legislation and need to be educated on this matter. Especially the Equality Act 2010. However, they only accept cash, which is prone to transferring the virus. How convenient. Staff challenged for medical card and have no grounds to do so. RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL & left me feeling distressed. The store was packed with no social distancing.

Has always been our favourite fish and chip shop but the last 2 orders have been disappointing. The fish had not been drained properly, was greasy and as a result most of the batter was stuck to the paper wrapping. They seem to be in too much of a hurry to get orders out. Also CASH only unless pre-booked and paid online.

Very busy, but that's the sign of a good chippy. Still served quickly. Freshly cooked fish and chips. Lovely.

Food was collected by a man on a bike, who was several miles away when he was called to collect my order, the food arrived cold and was obviously cooked and sat waiting for said man on bike to make his way across town to deliver, then he could not find my door even thought the number is displayed in stickers approx. 3 inches tall? so i had to go outside to see if I could see him he was across the road so I called to him he then said i will leave here (at the gate) so I had to come out of the house barefoot to collect, now normally I would not mind in the least, but I only ordered as I am laid up at the moment, not a mistake I will make again.

I live across Hereford from Edwards Plaice. Hearing good things thought give it a go. Fish and chips were fantastic. Covid safe environment, food stood the journey home. Good portion size, quality offered value for money. Will be back.

Can safely say that Ive just had as good a plate of fish and chips as I can remember. Cod was meaty and superb quality. Batter perfect. chips perfect. Lovely way to round off a long day. Those that source food like this and present it in such a great way deserve all success. Bravo.

This is such a nice fish and chip shop! It's not the cheapest, but it's great value as the food is delicious and the staff really seem to care about their food. It's also the only place around for miles that does real proper veggie battered sausages! I think they are Quorn Lincolnshire sausages, but whatever they are, they're amazing! The staff are friendly and polite, and at least one of them is an amazing singer! The whole place is spotlessly clean, and covid-19 measures are in place and adhered to. It's cash only for in-house orders, but they do their own click and collect service (which is cheaper than on Ubereats) and have their own app.

Had never really thought as fish and chips as a takeaway delivery before covid times. Exceed our expectations. Arrived quickly, and hot. Food was simply delicious, best fish and chips we had had in a long time.

The fish and chips here are delicious, a real treat. They're not cheap but then the actual food you're having doesn't taste it, so paying a little extra is so worth it. Lovely extra touch having a wedge of lemon with the fish and chips. Simple but makes the whole meal feel like you've been to a restaurant. Recommended!

We have had a Friday night takeaway for the last month and cannot fault the food great fish and great chips altogether excellent and the delivery man drops it at the door always waves and a thumbs up and a great smile the food is always hot and with a slice of lemon well done all staff.

This chip shop is amazing, its not my nearest but certainly wouldn't go anywhere else. Although they are busy, service is excellent, always friendly, click and collect is so efficient!!!!

Usually really good but not tonight. Kebab meat over cooked and the portion was smaller than usual. Scampi was burnt and over salted, really disappointed, not your usual standard at all.

Just got a fish and chips and a burger from this place last night and everything was ace. I get fish and chips places quality varies a bit depending on how busy they are on certain nights etc. but that was comfortably the best I've had in Hereford.

We hesitantly had our first takeaway tonight since March. We'd had a takeaway from Edwards Plaice once before and thoroughly enjoyed it, but found that it was expensive compared to our usual Chip shop and the fish is even smaller.As our usual Chippy was closed, we decided on Edwards again. I checked online and saw there was a Click and Collect way of ordering.This was very easy to use and I was impressed with how straight forward it was. I placed and paid for the order 3 hours earlier. There were in 15 mins slot. I received the email acknowledged including Order No. It did not state how I would find out at exactly what time the order would be ready I.e. 6pm or 6.15? We drove there to arrive at the earlier time. Whilst still in the car, I happened to click on the Order No, which opened into a new webpage, which gave highlighted sections. It showed the order had been placed, but the 'Preparing' section nor the 'Ready' section were still shaded out, thus the order was not ready.On arrival, there were about 10 people hanging around outside, presumably waiting for their orders. I waited in the car for a while, then after a while got in the queue, not convinced that's what I should be doing as my foodwas still pending online.There was a notice in the window advising only 5 customers allowed inside at one time. I saw that there were 3 youngish men stood talking together at the back of the shop, whilst they waited further orders. 2 had masks on, but had lowered them under their chin, the other did not have a mask on - may have had legitimate reason not to, but the other 2 had lowered theirs to talk, which defeated the object plus against government rules as they were inside waiting to pick up their orders. I kept checking my phone, but nothing updated. I could see the same bags of food on top of the ovens that has been there for the 12 mins I had been. I eventually thought I'd ask the question as to whether my order was ready, I didn't like to put pressure on them as they were busy, but my order had a starting slot if 20 mins ago by then. I asked one of the lads behind the counter, he said if I stand outside they'll call me when it's ready. I said I'd been doing that for over 10 mins and did they update the online display to 'Ready' when the order was ready, he said No, they were too busy. Just as I was about to you outside again, he asked my name... guess what our order was one of the ones on top for over 15 mins. I was very disappointed as I like my food hot. I told them this and that I'd been waiting for them to update online before I pestered them.We took the fish and chips home ... They were lukewarm, they smelt lovely and were tasty, but we would have enjoyed them so much more had they been hot, not just warm.Would I go there again, Yes, if Batterlicious was closed. They tasted as nice, but were colder and a lot dearer, but this time I wouldn't wait for the online order to be updated,I'd go straight in so my food was hot. I was very impressed with the click and collect ordering App, very easy to use, paid online, but dint rely on the progress of the order being updated... but thus were the staff not the App.

We ordered a takeaway via Just Eat for delivery. It arrived very promptly, a little over half an hour after ordering. I had Mediterranean chicken kebab with chips, and hubby had doner meat with chips. My meat was burnt to a crisp, black & hard. The salad consisted of dry grated cabbage and nothing else. My husband’s doner meat was pale & cold and did not look or taste like it was cooked properly. We both had chips, which would have been nice if they weren’t heavily salted. I could not believe what we got for the extortionate price we paid. Very disappointed & will not be using Edwards Plaice again. We have used them before and found them to be ok, but this was a joke.

We’ve just moved house & in disarray! Thought we’d order a delivery from Edwards Plaice as always been pleased before. Just received our order and so disappointed. Doner meat pale & cold - barely cooked through. Mediterranean Chicken kebab - burnt and hard to eat. Not what I expected at that price. Neither edible. Chips ok, but over salted. Won’t be using Edwards Plaice again. Can’t help feeling that we got the last of a bad lot! Have taken photos as I really can’t believe how bad it is!

Food and service excellent, lovely run family takeaway and all staff friendly and polite. I would say the best fish and chips I have ever tasted and great value and selection. Definitely make sure you put an order in and the House Burgers are amazing.

I'd heard so much bout this Fish and Chip shop and decided to use it. I used the click and collect service and it chose the small meals. Once I got them home, the portions were just big enough for what my husband and I wanted. The chips were really nice and weren't greasy and the fish and batter were really nice. I would certainly use them again and would recommend them to anyone.

Ordered from here tonight after working all day and about to start working through the night. I was amazed with the price and how fast it came first of all. And then the food! Oh my god!! I had the big boy burger, my partner had a mixed kebab in naan and we shared some chips. Absolutely amazing. My only critique is the bun needs to be bigger. I'd give you 10 stars if I could.

Finally reopened due to the pandemic, really, really missed while closed. Quality fish and chips again , by far the best in Herefordshire and now with a super efficient click and collect system. Well done team it's all really appreciated!
