Edmunds in St Edmundsbury

I organised an evening meal at the Restaurant for some of the members of Bury St Edmunds Ramblers. We had exclusive use of the restaurant and 48 of us attended the evening. The food was fantastic, the service absolutely excellent and the atmosphere great. Everyone commented on the quality of the food and how friendly, efficient and attentive the servers were. We were delighted that we were able to support this college run restaurant. Well done team.

We came here while visiting family and were very pleased with all the vegetarian options and specially the tapas which were very good and the right announcement. They have a nice technooogy in which you can order online from your table which made it very easy to order. The place is nicely decorated and has tons of charm

Equivalent food to nearby 5* establishments. Considering the students had only started a couple of weeks earlier, quite stunning.

I have been to Edmunds with friends several times in the last few months and every time it is brilliant. All the staff are so lovely and we have got to know some of the students and have seen their skills, confidence and careers progress. The food is always amazing and they will do whatever they can to ensure the dining experience is perfect. We mainly go for the weekly (in term time) Themed Evenings, although they do also open for snacks and lunches. They aren't open every day, so do check before you visit. We have recently been to Indian, Christmas Dinner and Tastes of East Anglia Themed Evenings. All have been excellent and we are looking forward to our next visit, which is a Steak Night in February. The restaurant is very popular and gets fully booked quickly, even though they provide 100 covers. I recommend that you join their mailing list now and then when you get invited to the preview night in September, go along and book as many visits as you fancy there and then, otherwise, you may not get in later. I absolute recommend you try Edmunds. You won't be disappointed.

We visited Edmunds on Wednesday evening in a party of 38 and enjoyed a really good meal. Well presented and served, deliciously “different”. We thoroughly recommend a visit. Excellent, especially so, as everything is prepared, cooked and served by the students. Friday buffet is excellent quality and value too.

Visited this week for lunch and I am so glad I did. Food was delicious - I had a buttermilk chicken wrap with fennel slaw and it was amazing. Service was great, very attentive. The waiting staff and chefs are all students and they were brilliant! A great local restaurant, at a very reasonable price and a great way to support the students at the college! 10/10 from me!

Today I went for lunch the service was fabulous the food is exceptional I had the fish finger sandwich with salad and rocket and mayo I'll definitely will be going back sometime soon

I have just had the pleasure of eating at Edmunds. It was excellent. The food was beautifully presented, prepared and cooked. It is definitely worth a visit. I attended with a group of ladies (19 of us on all) and the service went like clockwork. Would definitely go back again. In fact planning a visit with my husband soon.

Eating in a restaurant attached to a catering college is an intriguing prospect. So, too, was their once-a-week themed night which promised a platter of Thai dishes on the night we visited. The first thing to say is that everyone was extremely friendly, which translated to service that was a little unpolished. The second thing to point out is that the dining room is large, a little canteen-like, although with well-separated tables, and packed to the rafters with customers evidently eager to experience a cut-price dinner. The menu included both standard and vegan options, although I suspect we, as vegetarians, were in the minority. The starter of corn and chilli fritters were served quickly but there wasn't a trace of chilli to be tasted. One of the waiters attending our table admitted that he'd been responsible for making the fritters and seemed remarkably blase about his omission. It then took 45 minutes for a platter of four dishes to be served. The vegetable green curry had some depth of flavour, but there was a hint of nam pla (fish sauce) in the background, which clearly is neither vegetarian nor vegan. Nam pla was even more evident in the pad thai noodles, which was almost cold and, quite simply, dreadful. Satay tofu skewers were much more successful and vegetable spring rolls were passable, although the pastry was thick and chewy. The desserts had no resemblance to anything Thai and someone had turned a singular custard into plural ones. Overall, the meal was a curate's egg and we thought more effort should have been made in creating the dishes in the first place and ensuring that service could cope with the number of covers. As a training experience, Edmunds need to do more to help their students learn from their mistakes.

The service was willing but clearly still learning .The food varied from the excellent to the quite good and that was fine by us. There was a major timing glitch but we were not in a rush .

Our group of ladies had a wonderful evening at Edmunds, the Italian taster menu was beautifully presented and delicious, the service with a smile exemplary. We will return!

Absolutely incredible valentines meal! Food was fantastic and service was second to none! Cannot wait to visit again!!

i organised a party of 24, mainly Long Melford silver tops, to travel to the Burns Night feature menu at the Edmunds Room. Our charabanc got lost in the darkness of the West Suffolk College complex but a 'phone call to Claire, the head honcho, soon had her outside and guiding us in. We were met at the entrance by very polite students who took our coats and showed us to our tables. We had pre-ordered our choices from the menu and place cards with those choices were on the table with wine also there ready to consume. My Haggis starter was excellent and the others on my table said their choices were also to a very high standard. I chose the pheasant main course which came as a surprise, shaped as a cylindrical piece of meat with an outer oat crust. Delicious!. Then the finish for me was the Whisky & chocolate Cremeux. if you go there and it's on the menu you have just got to have it! All our party had something different from the menu and all said their choices were excellent. I sat next to the only vegetarian in our party and her main dish was something she had never had in a restaurant before. She thoroughly enjoyed it. To sum up, the students were very efficient , friendly and attentive, Claire watched over her charges with great efficiency to the point where we asked for all students to come forward for a standing ovation from the group. We will return!

What a lovey evening.. great atmosphere, staff were very friendly, helpful and very attentive. We went for the Vegan plant based food and we were not let down! Absolutely beautiful food! Couldn’t fault a single course! Wine was lovely too which was great and complemented the food, really reasonably priced. Would highly recommend if you haven’t tried!

Yet again excellent food prepared to a very high standard. So nice to see the youngsters learning their trade in real world conditions. We’ve signed up for several more events and am sure they will just as good.

I ordered some Mother's Day Afternoon Tea for my mum and partner. It was fantastic - the food was extremely high quality and a great price. We were over the moon with the quality! Excellent!!

Very fulfilling, the onion Bhaji had a great texture from the onion which is better than high street fare.I preferred the fish curry over the buttered chicken but we loved the almost al dente potato dish, it prevented the meal from becoming a mush of soft ingredients, nice touch.We added a quenelle of lemon ice cream to the sweet dishes... personal taste I guess but the coconut ladoo gave me memories of Bounty bars! Haven’t had one for years.Could of been more cardoman syrup on the filo parcel but hard to maintain on a take home dish you can’t garnish that well.Hats off to the team, you never disappoint !

I came for a meal with my parents on Edmunds’ re-opening night (after first lockdown!) It was a really lovely evening with a relaxed atmosphere.Staff were attentive, service ran smoothly and the food was perfectly put together and tasted amazing! I had heard amazing things about Edmunds but always felt that a stigma was around it as a student based restaurant; but boy was i in for a shock!We were politely greeted and informed of the covid procedures and led to our table. Both waitresses were dressed well and spoke slowly, clearly and with connection that added to the evenings experience. Claire the hostess and teacher I believe was clearly inspirational to the students, assisting them with a smile and concise advice making each stage of the meal effortless and enjoyable. Our first course was nothing short of perfection. A beautiful piece of salmon that was top shelf and cooked to perfection. With surrounding beet, watercress and walnut that blended incredibly well in a series of solid and liquid forms. It was mouth-wateringly good!!! I forgot to mention the home made bread which was superb albeit the cold butter always is a fiddle to spread! The small talk was not forced from the waitresses it was genuine and they listened and responded kindly and enjoyably! We did have fun! The main was a pork wellington. I had been looking forward to a wellington for a few years and never found any restaurants locally that served it. The pork was divine and the faggot, potato and grilled exotic mushroom complimented the dish superbly. So far 10/10. Claire returned to the table at our request and took our questions and answered all of them with a constant smile and pride in her team. She was both engaging and yet still able to multitask questions being asked by her students. She is quite an asset to the operation. Our waitresses returned with our final course which was beautifully presented although a tad bland compared to the first perfect courses. Never the less it was still sufficient to finish the meal off well and give me reason to wang to book in every month at this top class establishment. Having eaten myself at Michelin star restaurants I must say the courses would not have stood out as frauds had they been served there! They were top class, and we left beaming, content and feeling like somehow we had been served a £100 meal and not paid anything like that! I want to congratulate the team behind the scenes, the chefs, the waitresses and finally Claire, who I would not usually remember the name but she was just so good it stuck with me! Keep up the fantastic work and I will definitely see you all again soon and frankly... I can’t wait!

This was the students first opening of the season. The venue is easy to access, the staff are bright, bubbly and clearly well trained. The food was very high quality, well presented and tasted wonderful. 3 different Canapés to start, short rib beef, chicken Caesar and goats cheese. The starter choice was Hot smoked salmon with sweet beet purée and a pea purée was well cooked and tasted as good as it looked. I had duo of lamb as a main - very very good and beautifully presented. They have clearly invested a lot of time and thought to the presentation including the crockery. Overall 10:10 and will be back for more.

Had a fabulous lunch today Edmunds, WSC. Good menu catering for all dietary requirements. I was with a party of 7 and we were all extremely pleased with our dining experience. This is a training restaurant and the students serving us today were all attentive and pleasant. Food was really good and not over priced. Will be going back!

Our first visit to Edmunds Restaurant was a fantastic experience for both myself and my partner. The staff there were very polite and also warm in welcoming us into the restaurant. We had a 3 coarse meal with all three coarse's being of a very high standard of food, We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again in the very near future.

We could not fault the service, food, or ambiance. Every single person on duty was courteous and very informative as well as engaging. I can only guess at the work done by everyone to make this evening such a great success. Thank you! The future of hospitality will be safe in these young and capable hands.

Went with a group of 16 for Christmas meal. Restaurant was full to capacity but the service at the bar was friendly, quick and so helpful as soon as we got there. The food was superb and beautifully presented. Well done to the kitchen team. Great value for money and taste was divine. The whole team worked really hard to make such a great evening for us. Had a two course meal, the fish for the mains was very well cooked and beautifully presented, and the dessert was just heavenly. Did feel a little bit rushed as they were in a hurry to take our plates away, but they allowed me to finish eating in my own time

We had dinner here for the first time, although have lunched here on many occasions, the food was once again very good although the service was a little slow.

This was an ideal venue with plenty of space and good, accessible facilities. The food was amazing and the menu customised to our desires and requirements including flawless attention to detail when dealing with special diets. The service was warm, friendly and faultless with attention to detail. This restaurant is a hidden gem which not only gives the customer a beautifully memorable meal but simultaneously provides professional training and experience for the college students who work in the kitchen and front of house as part of their culinary arts or hospitality courses. Would also recommend their theme nights based on those I have experienced. Great food and excellent value for money!

It was a brilliant family event with a good selection of food and the range of cars from all generations. My husband and i really enjoyed the burgers and the my son enjoyed the milkshaks but more importantly the loud cars. Unfortunatly, there was a lack of hot drinks being that it was cold. Overall was a brillinat day out and i would like to come back and see what it would be like to dine in edmunds.

This was my very first visit to Edmunds and I was very impressed by the quality of the food and the high level of service. The asparagus starter has to be one of the finest dishes I have eaten in a long while.

We took over the whole restaurant (for 73 people) for our 40th Anniversary of the Stowmarket Twinning Association. I cannot praise this team highly enough - despite last minute identification of allergies - the food, the service - everything was done to the highest standard of professionalism, with courtesy and humour. Fantastic!

This event was to celebrate our long-term friendship with a twinned-town in France. It had to be an event which was as special as anything we had done before ... so we were anxious that on the night everything would be just right.

Wonderful food! Particularly enjoyed the mackerel starter and sticky toffee pudding. Service was exceptional and waitress was an absolute delight!

This was our first visit and we did not know what to expect.

Had an extremely good Xmas lunch. A variety of choices for those who did not want the traditional turkey dinner. The meal was hot and well presented by the catering students. The food here is always of an excellent quality. The students are always polite and although learning their trade, the service is surprisingly good. Good atmosphere and room nicely decorated. Will be back for Xmas 2019.

The quality of food served at Edmunds West Suffolk College Restaurant was amazing. Our large gathering had an ambitious Christmas menu to choose from and we were not disappointed in any way. The students excelled themselves to deliver a real treat.

A very lovely meal, polite, excellent staff who did everything they could. We went to the Game themed evening on a Thursday night. The food was 1st class. Booked again while there for some of their other themed evenings.

I have been several times to Edmund's and am never disappointed. I went to the Pub Classics themed Thursday evening meal with family. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food which is of a very high standard considering it is all cooked by students. The prices are reasonable and I often recommend Edmunds to my friends.

We hosted an event at Edmunds today and have to say the group that looked after us were the most pleasant, well mannered and attentive group of students. Perfect service and lovely food provided! Thank you so much from everyone at Archant!

I have been here three times now and each time the food has been really good; a lot better than I was expecting for student chefs. The front house staff are often quite nervous but they are training and it doesn't detract from the evening. They are very helpful and accommodating. The price is incredibly inexpensive for the quality of the food. As stated, I have been on three separate occasions; once it was like a ghost town (on a standard evening session), once moderately busy (Best of British themed night) and once packed (French themed night). With standard sessions costing just £15 a head for 3 courses and themed nights at £25 (from 3 to 6 courses) I really would highly recommend.

We first discovered Edmunds Restaurant a few years ago and have been to four of their theme nights since then. The quality of the food is exceptional and the students front of house are most obliging. Portions aren't huge - this is more a fine dining experience, but we have never left feeling hungry. We did ask for extra bread this time though - it is so delicious!

Once again our visit to Edmunds was excellent. Many people are unaware of this restaurant and the fact that it also has Theme nights. We have been visiting for years and the food has always been excellent although the service sometimes faulters, but they are still learning. Well Done.

We had an excellent experience. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. They were attentive and calm. The food was excellent and we tried many thinkgs on the menu. I would certainly recommend Edmunds for a friendly and tasty lunch.

We had an excellent evening. The food was very good and beautifully presented. The students were very attentive ensuring that we were well looked after all evening.

This is a training restaurant situated in the grounds of West Suffolk University. The food is surprisingly very good and most reasonably priced. The food preparation and service is provided by students on the first steps of their career choice, all overseen by competent and helpful experienced tutors, so if you are in a raging hurry best to avoid and choose another time. As always 60 of us had a first class 3 course meal in surroundings that wouldn't be out of place in a 5 star restaurant and we have no hesitation in recommending it.

The food was packed full of flavour - every mouthful was delicious. I had the chance to taste things that I had never had before. If I have one criticism it would be that as I was driving there was very little choice on what I could drink, however this was a minor point on a belly busting evening! Thank goodness we were allowed to take our uneaten dessert home with us to enjoy the following day:)

Wonderful meal, so tasty, lovely atmosphere, very good service can't wait to go again, I went with 3 friends, plenty of room in the restaurant did'nt feel hemmed in, music not too loud,, staff very attentive asked if everything was alright for us at each course, came round with a water jug to see if we wanted any more.

We met college colleagues for a meeting over lunch. The food was brilliant, the service excellent. "Real" restaurants could learn a a tip or two from the dedicated staff and attentive students at Edmunds. Thank you.

This has been an amazing experience. My husband and I went to view a car in Bury and I decided to look on Tripadvisor for a good restaurant. When I rang to book I was told the menu of the day was a buffet, I declined as my husband is not keen on buffets. But we decided to go anyway. We were amazed by the wonderful choice of food available and welcomed by the very polite students. Infact we have now decided to buy the car and will definately be visiting Edmunds again when we collect it. It's just a shame we live near Norwich, otherwise we would be booking to go to one of their themed evenings. I would definately recommend going here. Dessert is to die for!

I keep meaning to review Edmunds having been a regular diner at the Thursday night Themed Evenings for a number of years. I have never had a bad meal there. The themes are well thought out and offer 3 or 4 choices for each course so there is something for everyone. The students are always very friendly and efficient and the food is delicious. There is always a student in charge of the night who does make the effort to come round and talk to each table.Edmunds also offer private events which our family has used and they were brilliant. The lemon tart went down beautifully (my Grandfather compares all lemon tarts to the ones at the college and Edmunds still rank the best!) Mark should be very proud of what the students achieve whilst there as it truly is a fantastic restaurant to have in Bury both in terms of the wonderful food and the obviously great education the students are getting on the course.

Cead a Mille Failte a plenty on arrival at Edmunds backed up with popular Irish music to set the theme. Friendly, attentive service and superb menu choice exquisitely cooked and presented. One hundred per cent recommend a visit. We will definitely return more often thank you

Took a friend here having been a couple of times before and always excellent food and service. Had the added pleasure of having a pre theatre dinner before the excellent Conservatoire East show "Lilies on the land". Service was prompt and very polite and menu choices were all appealing. My fish cakes were delicious as was the duck starter and the trio of deserts as ever a lovely chance to try a selection. All highly recommend. Well done Edmunds!

We were welcomed by the most charming, delightful young man. We were well tended at table by the most helpful but not intrusive team. The whole experience was, as always, the ideal place to meet friends and enjoy well served, excellent, carefully prepared, delicious food.

Pudding Club Themed Evening - couldn't fault food or service. Friendly, competent students who from the welcome onwards were fantastic. Food was delicious, well presented and came with a smile.

Wednesday Early Evening Dinner booked a table for four, the services was great and the food was exceptional, and well presented. We all agreed it was as good as any 4-5 star restaurant we have eaten at. 2 x course meal £12.95 such good value. we all choose the Smoked haddock, spinach, poached egg & hollandaise sauce for our starter, and we cleared our plates. for our mains we choose 2 different and both we equally as goodTurkey saltimbocca, chestnut mushrooms, caramelised chicory & pesto (N)Shin of beef, horseradish puree, koffmann cabbage Great way to finish a days work with a fantastic meal in Edmunds, a credit to all the Tutors and Students well done ...

This was my fourth visit to the restaurant following a recommendation from a friend. I can't praise the restaurant enough. Each time the food has been of the highest quality and on Thursday night we had the pleasure of one of the best 'tasting' menus I've experienced. Service is fantastic too from enthusiastic and caring staff. I urge you to have a look at the website and make the effort to visit, I promise you wont be disappointed. I'll probably see you there.

Third visit to this restaurant and the food has been of consistently high quality, delicious and beautifully presented. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and the service is friendly and professional. Great choice of drinks too! Fast becoming my favourite place to dine in Bury.

Bury St Edmunds has many establishments in which to dine, but none as exquisite as Edmunds at West Suffolk College. We have certainly found a superb restaurant which offers great value for a top-quality service and superb choice of menu. The French Evening proved to be a truly wonderful culinary experience. We were rewarded with inventive and delightfully presented dishes whose flavours did not disappoint. My praise goes to the staff and the students who have made this a restaurant to equal, if not give Maison Bleu a real run for their money! We know where we shall be booking to eat in the future……Edmunds all the way! Well done to all!

For our 'Annual Supper' over 50 members of the West Suffolk Fine Wine Society dined here in January 2017. Lecturer Mark Suddes and Chef Manager Stuart Ascott put together an excellent menu and made this private event an evening to remember. On arrival the restaurant looked superb with quality crockery, glassware and decorations. The four-course meal was simply outstanding, with some innovative choices such as 'Textures of Cauliflower' as a starter, followed by a refreshing sorbet between courses. The choices for main course included Poussin or Hake, each presented in an interesting, modern and attractive way. A Trio of Desserts followed by coffee or tea completed the meal. To complement the quality of the meal, the standard of service was also first class - efficient, polite, friendly and very professional. This was a great dining experience by any standards, but when you remember that the cooking and serving is being done by students as part of their training it is even more impressive. Our members were effusive in their praise and compliments - and I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who enjoys high quality dining.

The training of hospitality in West Suffolk College restaurant Edmunds was Zest is of a very high standard. A small menu cooked fresh and served by young people learning the whole of the journey through the industry. A gem to be hold.

Maison Bleue has strong competition!!!!!!!!!Edmunds French night was a truly amazing evening. The menu was inventive and when we presented with our choices from the kitchen they did not disappoint.The food, service and ambiance deserved the prestige held by restaurant's such as Maison Bleue in Bury St Edmunds town centre. We dined with friends who were amazed at the quality .Thank you Edmunds for a wonderful night.

Incredible value! Loved it! Food is wonderful and drinks are fairly priced. Made to feel so welcome, and it's great that these talented individuals are getting the chance to showcase their talents. Well done all, well worth a visit. We will be back for sure.

Went to French Evening last night. Very well organised and the food was excellent. The staff were a credit to the college.

I just an amazing meal here couldn't of chosen a better place to come for dinner. presentation was brilliant for all courses. very well cooked and designed. thanks to all cooks and waiter for making the meal as good as it was.

On January 20th the wonderful catering students at West Suffolk College served delicious three course meals to just under 80 U3A members. All suited in their grey, smart uniforms the young people diligently provided hotel quality service under the guidance of a tutor and a very professional final year student. The tables for 10 were beautifully laid with delicate tulips as the centre piece. The room was full of chatter and people lingered for more conversation after the final coffee.Our thanks go to Edmunds Restaurant, including those ‘behind the scenes’ for such a memorable and enjoyable meal.

Mu husband and I booked a table here for 16th November for dinner - after a previous visit, we were very much looking forward to trying Edmunds again - it certainly did not disappoint - the usual warm welcome and a nice table - drinks orders taken straight away, then food orders. The serving staff were excellent. I chose a mackerel, beetroot, fennel and horseradish starter - my husband had cauliflower soup - a choice of breads was offered with this; both delicious. For mains, we both chose haddock which was presented on potato puree with crispy kale and kale puree - it looked so pretty - AND tasted great, too. The cheapest white wine on the menu is very good - nicely dry, and complimented the fish well. We declined desserts, as we were quite full, although the choice looked interesting.After the meal, we were not only allowed, but encouraged to have a look in the kitchens - fascinating for me - and the chefs were lovely - it all looked calm and efficient. Thanks to everyone - can't wait until next time! DO try Edmunds - it's GREAT - and they do Thursday themed evenings, as well as a Christmas menu.
