The food was fantastic. Cooked bautifully and satisfyingly sized portions. Seating in the restaurant was cramped, rather than open out the whole restaurant they squeezed all the diners in one small area making it intimate for the wrong reasons.

Afternoon tea is always a relaxing experience and today was no different. Our table was set in the lounge area. We could have been in the restaurant or on the veranda but we chose the lounge. Comfy chairs and sofas on a rainy day is just perfect. We served a glass of champagne while we chatted and then the sandwiches and cakes were served. A nice selection of sandwiches- egg ham smoked salmon cucumber all very fresh. Fresh scone with jam and clotted cream little brownies fruit tarts and fruit cake. All very fresh and delicious. Plenty of tea was served when you needed refills. Very enjoyable experience.

Nice, accommodating and helpful. Staff not unfriendly, but came across like someone working in a government office from time-to-time, rather than like travel, tourism, entertainment, F&B....great afternoon tea, good breakfast - but doesn't quite know if it wants to be a boutique or a volume 'coach-party' hotel - didn't quite know how to categorise. Wouldn't avoid, but might look around for something a little more luxurious for the rack-rates.

Spent a relaxing lunchtime at the restaurant. The food was nicely cooked and well presented. The portions were a bit on the small side, but in all fairness the set price for lunch represented good value for money. Our waiter gave excellent attentive service and advised us on some of the menu options.I would be happy to visit the hotel again.

We arrived with friends for lunch in the restaurant and were shown promptly to our table, but alas we were the only people eating. The lunch consisted of three courses and a glass of pimm,s for &14.95 per head. There was a choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts.I chose prawn cocktail, sea bream and cheese, the food was beautifully presented and our waiter was very attentive. We retired to the conservatory for coffee and to reflect on lunch.Overall 10/10 for food/service and fantastic value for money.I would highly recommend the Norfolk Royale as a place to eat with friends. We will be returning very soon for a "Marvellous Monday Lunch".

We visited for my husband's birthday lunch. The staff were attentive and pleasant throughout. The menu was a little more basic than I'd have hoped but there was something each of the party was happy to choose. The food was good and excellent value. The whole experience was only marred slightly by a maintenence man coming in halfway through our meal and clattering about with a ladder changing some lightbulbs which seemed to take ages. I know these things need to be done but surely better to do them when the restaurant is closed? Apart from that is was a nice meal and we all agreed we would visit again.

Eight of us met to celebrate a 60th birthday. The table d'hote menu was extremely good value, four choices for each course... the meals were well presented and all delicious. The only child in our party did not like the soup of the day, so was offered an alternative, his favourite, tomato. A good choice of wines and efficient service by Valter, who looked after us all throughout the meal, offering to show us to the lounge bar, or conservatory, for our coffee. Valter certainly added to our enjoyment of the meal, making sure that we had everything we needed...he was friendly and efficient, we felt very well served by him.

This was my first hotel afternoon tea in recent years and thought it was lovely, but until I had my second tea at another venue yesterday I hadn't realised just how good it really was. Good to have had the comparison. The Norfolk gave us freshly made sandwiches with yummy fillings, homemade cakes, scones and gorgeous champagne. The service was really friendly and attentive too, so I would definitely return for another calorie filled hour or two!

I visited this place with my girlfriend despite having lived in Bournemouth all my life and never hearing it mentioned before. The decor of the restaurant is to say it mildly, extremely dated and in need of refurbishment. Made me feel like I was in a mix of a college cafeteria and an old holiday camp all inclusive dining room. Chairs that don't match, peeling wallpaper, buffet carts unused. I know this is a hotel restaurant but it really could do with some attention as the food and particularly the service are of a very good standard. The only problem with my food was that the slow cooked pork belly I ordered was far too fatty and on the verge of inedible due to this. We also had the lobster and the chocolate selection for desert. The bill was very reasonable but only due to the fact we used a table pouncer discount of %50 otherwise it would have bordered on obscene for the overall experience.Unfortunately the card machine in the outdated restaurant doesn't allow you to add tip so embarrassingly I wasn't able to leave one as I was carrying no change. Not really what you expect from a restaurant. Despite all the problems I would say its worth a visit if you keep an open mind, forget the decor, enjoy the food and don't forget your cash tip.Note to the management, redecorate!

I went to the Echoes Restaurant at this hotel with my husband and mother for lunch yesterday. The receptionist and the waitress were very helpful and friendly, and the restaurant comfortable. It was surprisingly empty apart from us, perhaps because the weather was bad. A particular bonus for us that it was easy to talk - although there was some background music, it was kept at a reasonable level so we didn't have to shout to hold a conversation (as one does in some restaurants). The fixed price menu for lunch was excellent value (even more so if you have a Taste Card for 50% discount), 2 courses being c £10 and 3 courses c £13. My husband had mushroom soup which he said was extremely tasty, and my mother and I had prawn cocktail which was fine, and we all had the pork steaks with ginger. My husband then had a light bread and butter pudding, and my mother had the creme brulee with pear. Not haute cuisine, but absolutely fine for our purposes. Would definitely recommend this place for a pleasant weekday lunch.

We had afternoon tea at the Norfolk Hotel with 24 ladies which had been pre booked. A group of us had booked and confirmed the day before. The surroundings were very pleasant and in the main the staff were pleasant however there was a lack of organisation. Given that we were expected a tea stand for every two people should have been provided but after 30 minutes only half of the guests had their afternoon tea. Some additional sandwiches were then provided and after a considerable amount of time some more tea stands arrived so that everyone was served. Some of the guests felt that the sandwich fillings were uninspiring (smoked salmon, cheese, egg and ham) but i felt that the quality and presentation of the tea was ok.A disappointing visit,

I am a great fan of The Norfolk Royale, although I never seem to get the time to visit as often as I would like.As usual, the staff are on hand to cater for every need. Old-fashioned service still means something at The Norfolk Royale, and the splendid surroundings add that little bit of class. Our table was ready on time, the silverware polished and shining, and the xtensive menu offered us a lovely range to choose from.I always feel the food in Echoes never fails to impress, and the chef really takes special delight in catering to people who enjoy their food.Try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Booked afternoon tea for myself and three friends and was pleased with our day. They catered quite well for the vegetarian member of our group, although she ended up with only 2 types of sandwich filling where we got 4. We all enjoyed most cakes and the scones. I think we all agreed that one less cake and a few more sandwiches might have been a better balance, but we gave all the cakes a good go! The chocolate brownie was my personal favourite. Would love to come back again.

Loved the food three courses included within hotel package (normally cost approx £27) choice of approx four dishes per course. High standard and beautifully presented. The only down size was on our first visit, felt a little rushed, no sooner had we eaten the one course the next arrived, also found it the heating in the restaurant in the morning for breakfast was too hot, so don't wear anything heavy and warm.

It turned out that the chap who welcomed us had made a little mistake when entering our information. About our afternoon: staff were polite & attentive, we were sat inside but out in the balcony bit which was lovely, we had never ending supply of fresh filter coffee, our cream tea was bought out on a 3 tier China server as it should be, sandwiches were fresh & delicious as were all the cakes, the fruit scones were fresh & delicious, our only complaint.....too much for us both to eat so they bagged the remaining cakes up for us to take home ! All in all a lovely afternoon, & at every oppurtunity we go back as a little treat, well done to all at the Royal Norfolk !
