Eastern Origin in Gwynedd

Ended up in here as the place we wanted to try was closed... The restaurant was empty, which raised oir concerns... The food was the worst Chinese we have had. Mixed starters were oily, spring rolls over cooked & filled with who knows what.. a bit of cabbage maybe? Portions sizes were ok but Meat dishes tasted like its killed twice, dry , bland & far too much soy. My partner was suspicious of the prawns in the rice... didnt eat. Ice cream dessert is just plain cheap vanilla. As for the place itself, manky carpets, messy reception with things piled up everywhere looks untidy & dont go down to toilets... its like decending into a horror movie! Dark, mouldy , smelly basement with horrendous toilets.. looks like half not working or cleaned.. I dread to think whay the kitchen looks like! We offered some constructive criticism of the food, but it seems they have had that before & not improved.. avoid this place its really a dire disappointment unless you like bland salty food.

Very expensive for bland average food. Salt and chilli chips and chicken were bland. Hardly any filling in spring rolls and samosa. Ribs had hardly any meat and were bland. Wouldn't recommend.

Food was cracking, cheap, and plentiful, and staff were super helpful and friendly. We had several vegans in the party, and the restaurant staff were able to make almost every veggie dish as a vegan dish. Had the place to ourselves but the atmosphere was still nice. Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, it deserves high ratings.

Very poor experience all round. Disappointed as this business use to be so good.The manner of the person taking orders on phone is very abrupt and not much better in person. Whole place has a really sad neglected feel about it these days. Food quality poor: ordered 2 different noodle dishes both looked the same tasteless over cooked vegetables with very tough meat. Noodles dry with very strange colouring which wasn't consistent and largely tasteless. Threw more than half away. Won't be returning until I hear of an improvement . There are other outlets in Bangor cheaper and better.

We had the place to ourselves which was good for our autistic son. Food was lovely and staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly. Decor could do with updating.

Worst chinese in Bangor, had a takeaway and the food was awful and it wasn’t cheap, can get far nicer food made with better quality ingredients at China Hot Chilli, Garden’s or Jasmine for the same price, will not go back, such a shame as it used to be nice. Would not recommend!

Looking forward to a lovely meal with my partner and stumbled upon this restaurant. Read reviews and was hopeful! The worst Chinese we have ever had. Had to eat with coats on as staff stated that there was no gas?? Food unpleasant with what can only be described as an ‘unusual’ consistency. Sauces tasted synthetic and unpleasant. Starter appeared re-heated, with the spring rolls consisting of soggy pastry with zero content. Ourselves and another family in the entire place. As we were leaving, the other family asked how we found the food as theirs was shocking. Staff were open and interested when offered constructive feedback but we left hungry as food was inedible. Partner went to the lavatory before leaving and said it was disgustingly dirty with mouldy walls. Giving one star but would award zero if possible. Avoid.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! Very dirty Absolutely awful. From start to finish. We were staying in Bangor overnight as we’d been to Zip world and our nearest takeaway was this place so we decided to go In and eat. When we walked in we were greeted by an extremely dated decor and a foul smell, we proceeded to request a table. We were the ONLY 2 people in there. We were given a menu and ‘wine menu’ to look at and were asked straight away what we would like to drink, my partner requested a Bierra Moretti and I asked for the same, I was told there was only 1 bottle so we would have to share, I said ‘I’ll have a look at the bar to see what else you have’ the very rude lady shouted ‘NO! You have a wine menu, look at that’ so I chose a small glass of red wine, when it came it was in a pint glass, not a wine glass!! We went on to order food, at this point I was feeling extremely uncomfortable and the more I looked around, the dirtier the place seemed. We ordered an appetiser for two which came as 2 spare ribs, 2 prawn toast, 2 spring rolls and a pile of seaweed. It was awful, the prawn toast was 100% reheated and hard, I complained and the chef came out, took my prawn toast, snapped in in half and said ‘LOOK, not hard’ then expected me to eat it after she had handled it; I refused! I went on to eat my spring roll which half way through I was greeted with a hair, I complained again and the chef again took the spring roll apart and almost threw it at me in anger that I had raised the issue, she then told me she didn’t want to serve me anymore and asked me to leave. I left with pleasure and a very lucky escape! I would t recommend this place even if the food was good. The pure lack of customer service from staff, the dirtiness of the place and the lack of stock on drinks! Very poor!!! If I could upload pics of this disastrous dinner, I sure would!! I’ve shared them to my social media account around make people aware of this absolute dive!! AVOID AVOID AVOID

Really enjoyed our meal out here! We got the 'Banquet B' which offered a really nice selection of dishes for a good price. The staff were also very friendly. Been a few times now and it's always a good meal!

Went as a last minute meal to end a day out. Lovely friendly staff, really good food. My dad said it was the best lemon chicken he's had. My very fussy son wolfed down his noodles and sausage. Very well enjoyed by us all.

Visited with a small family this evening This place really needs an over haul and a serious deep clean!!! I have never been to an establishment that is so filthy EVER!! For such a busy place for take outs.. speaks volumes why nobody eats in.. I’m mortified by the lack of basic cleaning! The toilets!? Wow!! Have some self respect it’s a food establishment clean your premises before someone gets seriously sick!! It’s absolutely disgusting! The smell of damp and what I can only describe as mouldy food when you enter is awful. Flys everywhere in the restaurant and dirty glasses and crockery…bird feathers lying about… close the restaurant and just do take aways.. because honestly your lack of cleanliness will eventually shut you down.. it’s such a shame. This place could be a real gem… won’t be recommending and won’t be going here again.. the garden a few doors up is much nicer.

The box meal is great value for money

Service was great here. Adhered to social distancing rules. We ordered a takeaway which is cheaper than the sit in menu. The food was hot fresh and plentiful. Only flaw I can note is that the chips weren't hand cut chips. Personal preference for me but there we go. I would highly recommend this place for a Chinese. No grease whatsoever. I didn't feel dirty after eating it like I do with some Chinese food.

Realy poor food, I ordered a vegetable curry, it looked and tasted like it had been made with gravey granules. The lady served my friend next to me and put her sleeve in my food and just smiled at me!

Just got "new waitress" so got wrong dish served but it was rectified with no probs

I ordered from them last night and the food was top notch, absolutely delicious and there was loads, I am currently eating the leftovers for my lunch! The staff were really good and dealt with my order really well and hung around to chat as well. All in all it was a really pleasant experience and I will definitely be ordering from them again.

We came in over the weekend, the staff where friendly ,it was the food that let it down, the chips where dark and full of grease, the curry didn’t taste very nice no one could eat it, the rice was all stuck together, I’m sorry but we didn’t enjoy it.

My friend and I visited this restaurant to celebrate a birthday.We had not been there before and enjoyed a banquet costing £22 each.We were served by the very pleasant Alice,who was both friendly and informative.She recommended various options to us and actually offered to change one of the dishes to exclude chilli sauce.This level of service is extremely rare and I was delighted with the dish that I received.My cuisine of choice is Chinese and I have eaten at numerous restaurants over the years and I have NEVER received such accommodating service.Nothing was tooooo much trouble.Every dish was beautifully cooked and presented,the portions were HUGE.So much so neither of us could manage to eat the dessert........Even though the restaurant was quite quiet Alice made is feel very welcome.At the end of our meal Alice chatted with us explaining the history of the restaurant and how her family became involved in Bangor.I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment.Great food,friendly staff and excellent value for money.

Good - food ok and generous portions.Bad - After being served our main meal no-one came near us again! Wanted another drink and another knife as the one on the table was dirty but could not get anyone's attention. More importantly I told the waitress at the start of the meal that I had an allergy and asked if any of the food contained the ingredient. The main course did so she said she would pass this on which she did but when the starter arrived guess what was on the plate?! The waitress later apologised and said she was not aware that the ingredient was on the starter. For me, it would have meant being up half the night being sick but for others it could have been more serious so a little more care/communication is needed.

There is not a lot of great places to eat in Bangor and when we turned up to an almost empty place we did wonder.The menu is completely predictable for a Chinese but the point is, it is really well done and very tasty. This is not fine dining but is way better than most Chinese’s. And it was a bargain.We had a half duck and a number of dishes meal for 4 with drinks £80.

Brilliant food, brilliant service and extremely helpful as my son has multiple food allergies.

By far my favourite Chinese restaurant, it's one that has never changed its service or meal quality but unlike others it hasn't gone downhill its remained the spot on standard it always had. I know I can get the great tasting meals here today that I had several years ago and that the service will always be spot on. I can't fault it please don't change ever :)

A wet summer Sunday in Bangor without the students is not the best time to look for non carvery food as many restaurants are not open at all. Knowing that the Eastern Origin was open we went as they are continue to be open lunch and dinner through the year. On our last visit the food was good but the room was tired and we were pleasantly surprised that the decor had been done up with new carpets, painted walls and fresh linen. The menu has the standard British Chinese items but also some more authentic Chinese and we went for dim sum, plus crackling pork, char siu, rice and veg noodles. Plenty of it, tasty, quickly served, and great value. Can't ask for more.

Having sampled a takeaway several months ago I thought it would be a change to go and have a sit down meal, not disappointed. The Oriental soup I had as a starter was so good I had two helpings and the beef in black bean sauce was superb, the meat just melted in your mouth.

Although it looks a bit sad on outside this is a lovely resturant. The staff were very helpful, food excellent & good value for money. We had £16 set meal with extra noodle dish. Plenty of food we struggled to eat it all, bit too much broccoli & onions but that our personal taste. Meat tender & sauces tasty, glad we ignored outside decor as had lovely unrushed evening.

Visited this restaurant so many times over the years and it’s always been pleasant. This time was shocking - ordered a pint of lemonade which had no fizz to it, had the beef skewer satay sauce dish for starter which was SO fatty! Then had the sweet and sour chicken with rice for main and a lot of the rice was really hard like it hadn’t been cooked at all. Chicken was chewy. No atmosphere at all, no music until a few other tables came in although the staff were very polite and friendly. Wouldn’t return.

The food served to us was very good and tasty, and the servings were large enough for two. The staff were nice and courteous. Perhaps because there only two of them, the taking of orders and the computation of the bill were quite slow. Also, the tables looked old and dilapidated without linen covering, which had quite a negative effect on the ambiance of the place, although we were told that they were about to refurbish the whole place. But it would still make a difference if they put linen on the table in the meantime. But nevertheless the food was great and we were happy with it.

Don't ever write reviews but feel i must in this case. Sat down on scruffy plastic chairs that stuck to the carpet, table with no table cloth, dirty sticky peeling varnish, should have gone then!!! Ordered the 3 course meal , rice came on the plate stone cold, portions of chips the smallest ever, one of us had stir fried beef with mushrooms, the beef was so tough he had to spit it out in the serviette, another one had lemon chicken it was jiff lemon thickened with cornflour, mine was sweet and sour chicken, couldn't cut it was stringy and tasteless and tough , I asked for it spice up a bit but took no notice. I went to complain about the beef that my friend couldn't chew, instead of asking can i get him something else she said ill fry him some chicken, more of the discussing un sliced slimy mushroom appeared in the bland sauce with the most disgusting supposedly chicken ever. My friend tried to eat it and was nearly throwing up it was as bad as the beef if not worse . We payed in FULL, KEEP CLEAR OF THIS CHINESE.

Food was great although the building needs some TLC

We went as a group of 4 and ordered all vegetarian meals. I am a vegan and they were extremely helpful and took great care over my order coming back on a couple of occasions to ask questions to make sure what I have ordered was suitable. This was greatly appreciated and made me feel very comfortable tucking into the food knowing it was completely vegan.

1 of my favourite Chinese restaurants in North Wales. Excellent service and the food is with you in no time. I have eaten here about 5 times and the quality and quantity of food has always been top notch.

15 of us for family meal. Thought we would have been expected to have the banquet as so many of us, but they were happy for us to order individually. Food delicious and generous portions. Staff very helpful, polite and excellent service.

Visited for lunch. Told on arrival kitchen shuts in 5 mins do you want a la Carte menu ,replied no if we’re too late for lunch we’ll leave.Dont be rude was the retort this was at 13 .25pm open for lunch from 12.00 till 13.45. Still trying to understand how to order a la carte from closed kitchen. Why open if you don’t want customers?

This is a lovely spacious setting with huge elegant windows, easy to find at the top of town. The food is delicious and fresh.

Very good Chinese food, good vegetables and large portions

Amazing food and service. The prawn toast is to die for! I had chicken chow mein and it was amazing. Very big portion though. I had some for breakfast in the morning. Still brilliant and tasty.

Fantastic food, great service, reasonable prices, highly recommended

So we decided to order a meal deal for three, we added duck spring rolls ,chicken balls and egg fried rice to the order, after traveling 15 minuets to pick it up, we get home and no rice, so we had to go to the local Chinese despite not wanting to go there in the first place hence the 15 minuet car ride! Then I bit into the ''duck'' spring roll to find it was vedge. I rang them up spoke to the so called manager and WOW mind numbing to say the least...repeated my order about 7 times! didn't understand my rice was missing and then ontop told me they don't even sell duck spring rolls......WHAT THE HELL!? wouldn't recommend at all, the food was bloody horrible.

Mediocre and not very clean. Tables have peeling varnish and no tablecloths, the carpet is sticky and the food is abysmal. Over-seasoned and not balanced as Chinese food should be.

Was glad to be able to find restaurant open late on Saturday but the food was so terrible and bland that I couldn't even have a second bite. I don't usually write reviews unless am very impressed or the opposite. My advice would be to avoid at all costs!Also disappointed that I had to pay for food I didn't have!

We stopped here on the way home at 8:15pm on a sunday night and ordered 2 starters and 2 main courses which we were told would be no more than 20 minutes We came back to collect and were told it would be another 15 minutes. After waiting in the car for 15 minutes we were then told that it was not started. They listed alot of excuses about being busy and having other things to do and that they had not started ours. The chef who i presume was the owner came out of the kitchen and was screaming and shouting. She shouted "i do not need your custom because you are not a regular" I explained that we now had been waiting nearly an hour and 15 minutes and she said she didnt care, i said we have paid for our food in good faith and she gave us the money back and said it was tough and to leave. Totally bad service, she was unproffessional and should not be running a business. She was shouting at people and clearly had no grasp on how to provide customer service. I would never go back as there are much much better options near byStay away from this place. Initially they thought it was good to offer us £4 as an apology for keeping us waiting an hour and 15 minutes.

Came here last month for a meal, it was very busy and unfortunately they had to put us in the backroom where I assume they keep all extra tables and chairs. Not their fault they were full but it was a bit awkward sitting alone away from the dining area however knowing that the food is good we didn't mind. As always they service was excellent, very polite and efficient we order our food and it came within 20 minutes. My sweet and sour chicken fried rice was delicious very sweet much nicer than Chinese takeaway, not as greasy and much tastier. My partners beef curry was equally as good, the portions here are very generous so do not get a starter. Pricing is good as the food is excellent. I would recommend here anytime.
