Durham Ox in East Lindsey

What a fabulous country Inn, food was great as were the staff. Portions were of a good size, very tasty and value for money. We were staying on the small campsite at the pub, which, was also very nice and a great location for exploring the local area.

3 of us went for what was a lovely meal. Service was great, it all came out together - there weren't loads of other people there because we went early. I've only dropped a mark for the food through pickiness - it would've been nice to have lemon served with the starter (whitebait) which i found a little bland without it. The mushroom & ale pie and also the cow pie were fantastic. Definitely intend to return

Very good food, we all had different starters, mains and dessert. All excellent, especially the mixed grill and the fabulous chips. Friendly service, comfortable nice atmosphere. Nothing too much trouble. Reasonably priced for tasty good quality food. Would certainly go back

Really sweet cosy country-fied pub, loads of parking, very clean, staff are very friendly & food was overall very good. My partners burger was unfortunately undercooked but the staff did apologize and take it off the bill which was kind! Will definitely come back again & definitely recommend

Simply fabulous. Ticks all the right boxes. Always a friendly warm welcome. This is home cooked food at its finest.... Chips to die for! Great selection on the menu, plenty of choices. Sit in the snug area after a meal... And soak up the ambience. Brilliant x

We went along for the quiz night last week. It was great fun. Really lovely landlady and staff - very friendly and warm. Nice atmospheric pub. Good beer and sprit selection. Didn't eat - but the menu looks good so we will be back.

Not welcoming, felt interrogated, won't want to go again

We have passed by for the past 14 years but finally ventured in and found what we have been missing! Very friendly, excellent food and great prices. I had a steak pie which is easily the best pie I have ever had!

We had the absolute pleasure of staying in the van-parking site around the back. A very well maintained, level and quiet space. All was easily accessible, very reasonably priced, and the hosts were charming and friendly. The food is magnificent, and the interior of the pub/restaurant delightful. Kerry and Jacqui should be rightly proud of themselves. Will definitely return!

Had a lovely, relaxed meal here during storm Babet. Service was friendly and efficient; the food was excellent; and reasonably priced. Decided to take the desert home as the weather was worsening. No problem. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

I have to say the Durham Ox is one of the only places we genuinely look forward to visiting and staying on their camp site. So far this year we have stayed there 3 times and have now just booked for a 4th, the reason is it is lovely pub with great hosts and lovely staff. The meals are all very tasty and reasonably priced and the atmosphere there is spot on so what more can I say. The Durham Ox is perfectly placed to explore the Lincolnshire aviation trail with RAF Coningsby being only a few miles away as well as Woodhall Spa and the beautiful market town of Horncastle only a few minutes walk away. So all in all the Durham Ox really has got a lot going for it and to be honest for us as a couple it just seems to get better every time we visit. Can't wait to go again in December 😉

Sunday lunch lovely meat not great roasties spoiled by being drenched in gloopy gravy which should have been served separately. Also not hot enough.

Visited with friends Lovely traditional pub with a beer garden and parking. Short walk from Horncastle so easy to walk from town there is a path so safe to walk once it’s dark. Waitress that served us was very friendly and helpful. Good selection of pub grub. Drinks were reasonable priced too. The restaurant was not busy with only one other table so was surprised when forced to order when one of the parties guest had not arrived. Enjoyed the outside seating area lights could do with staying on a little later than 9:30pm wasn’t a problem as we sat with phone lights on, to be fair waitress welcomed us to sit in to finish our drinks. Would be nice to have heaters so can make the most of cooler evenings.

Have never been to this pub before as recently moved to Horncastle and we have devised a list of all the pubs to visit. We have visited a few since moving, but this far outweighs the others. I am gluten and dairy intolerant and the DO catered for all my needs, the dishes for both needs were amazing. Food normally is bland and poorly presented, but not in this case, the taste was amazing and presentation was the same as I would expect from a high end restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, that we booked in for the following week with friends. Staff very polite and friendly it was a pleasure being in their company. I could go on raving about this gem but I will stop, but it won't be our last visit that's for sure.

We stayed at the caravan site for 5 nights Lovely little site very peaceful. We had two meals at the pub. The food is delicious and we highly recommend the cow pie. Jacqui and Kerri were the perfect hosts. We would definitely return if we were in the area again

This was our first visit for my husband's birthday. We are so pleased as soon as you walk straight away. You are greeted by a smile and a warm welcome. The starters were lovely. The main course was amazing. I had the steak, and it was cooked just the way I liked it. The sweet also was amazing. The flake cheese cake was very yummy. We would strongly recommend the price was very good to complements to the cheif and thanks to the waitresses

I was treated to afternoon tea today by some friends. It was absolutely delicious! Very well thought out and nicely decorated with a seaside theme. Everything was spot on. We all had a fantastic afternoon. Looking forward to the next afternoon tea experience!

Fantastic selection for gluten free and other dietary needs. The food is plentiful and well presented and the pricing is fair.

Amazing food, lovely service! I can’t remember having a better meal. Starters were red hot and so tasty, loaded fries not something I’d order but we had 11yr old with us, I’d def order again from here. My main was baked haddock.. I nearly always order fish. The haddock was glossy and perfectly cooked, which is very rare! The carrots tasted like they were cooked in tarragon butter, pak Choi was lovely and charrred, crushed new potatoes had whole grain mustard through them (I’m famous for not eating my veg) every mouthful was delicious.. the salsa Verde was sharp, citrusy, we’ll balanced! My son had a side of mac and cheese which was gooey and bubbling hot. I tried his salad and even that was crunchy and sweet with different textures. Portion sizes were perfect. Definite ten out of ten, best meal out in many many years!

Overall the meal was good. The prawn cocktail starter was OK but didn’t’t need the side salad with it,nor did the spiced cauliflower. The mains courses of roast beef and the roast pork were good and there was a good selection of veg to accompany them. The only pic I remember3d to take was of the chocolate brownie which was amazing. Value for money was good.

Visited for Sunday dinner today (30/07/2023). I had the roast beef while my partner had the roast pork- both meals were amazing. Good portion sizes- I rarely finish my plate but managed to finish my Sunday dinner here. We followed up with cheesecake, which was so good and so filling I had to take some home with me. This is the 3rd time we’ve been and each time we’ve really enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning soon

Found this place while on the road. Told us they had ran out of food at 1pm on a Saturday? Not friendly and didn’t try to accommodate us or even offer us a sandwich. No apology just clearly didn’t want us there.

Visited during the Easter holidays while on a cottage break with the kids. Great little place for a meal and a drink. Service friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Lots of great options for everyone including vegan, veggie and kids options. We all enjoyed a lovely meal.

Clean hostelry with good service ethic. Food cooked perfectly. Menu conventionally varied and lacking in flavour. Draught drinks cold (when appropriate) and all utensils perfectly clean. Good parking area with a beer garden (fenced) also in good order. This reviewer would go again. Attached photos are of the vegetarian Mexican Burger with fries and coleslaw.

An amazing Sunday lunch, beef was tender as hell and soo tasty! Dessert was decadent and full of guilt but worth it. Very good value. Staff friendly and helpful. Will return

Just staying at The Durham Ox for a couple of nights in our motorhome and I have to say what a Gem of a place this is. We were looking for somewhere we could have a couple of quiet nights stay whilst our daughter was away with school and this place fits the bill perfectly. The bar and restaurant offer a good selection of food and beers to accommodate all tastes. The owners are lovely and have made us feel very welcome and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. I have to say the food was out of this world (compliments to the chef 👍) and very reasonably priced. The site is well kept and for £15 a night stay in a caravan or motorhome it offers great value for money, there are electric hook ups for those who need them (charged on usage). For those who just want to explore the Lincolnshire Wolds or the Aviation Trails this place is perfect. Our genuine thanks go to everyone here at The Durham Ox we will definitely be coming back 🍻👍👍. The service was exceptional and I've been to everything from a speedy greasy spoon to Michelin star restaurants. The food was delicious. We went for a Sunday dinner. We visited for lunch. The food was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the desserts. I had mini egg homemade cheesecake which was amazing. The staff were really friendly and attentive and the service was great although it was not particularly busy. We will definitely come back.

Book Early, or miss out. Its that good. We took our caravan and pitched up in the Caravan and Motorhome site at the rear of the pub. Excellent customer service from arrival, we were soon set up and had electricity flowing from the metered supply within minutes. Visited the pub for food on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. Fantastic home cooked pub grub, roaring open fire, well kept ale (I had Ghost Ship), and great staff. Between us we sent back empty plates after having, cow pie, Sirloin steak, Gammon Steak, Barnsley Chop and double cheese burger. Place was full on all three nights. For us, it was a dream come true!
