Dunnichen Stone Forfar in Angus

We waited 20 mins before having our drinks order taken, and that was after flagging down the young waitress that was trying her best. After placing our order (for 3 main courses), we waited nearly 50mins further on our meals being served, which were lukewarm. The waitress didn’t come back to ask if everything was ok with our food. We could see and hear the waitress was getting several complaints from other customers and was serving the area (by the kids play area) alone. We felt for the waitress as she was very polite and apologetic when we mentioned our meals weren’t as hot as we’d have liked, the poor girl looked worn out and ready to cry. This is the first time we have visited the Dunnichen Stone in over 2 years and were encouraged to go as we’d received a 30% discount voucher in the post, however unfortunately we won’t be rushing back (we were sat at table 5)

Stopped here unexpectedly, we were met at the door by a very polite and attentive member of staff. We had a very pleasant meal in nicely furbished surroundings.

Edit. Has improved a lot since I'd been here last. Although it was around lunchtime. The food was a lot better. The food was okay. They stop serving food at 7 pm and last orders at the bar at 7.30 pm.

It was lovely, the food was excellent

Staff were lovely but food took an extremely long time to come out. Wasn't pleasant and felt like it had been previously frozen and zapped in a microwave.

Nice warm welcome from Callum, pleasant service from him and Emily, disappointing there were no baguettes as advertised on the menu (and especially so early on in the day) We were a party of 4 for a birthday lunch, 3 of us wanted the baguettes so not the best impression to start !

Lovely meal, my burger was delicious 😋 friendly service from great staff, will be back!

Stopped in for a quick bite both had the soup DONT disgusting cold no baguette as in menu got 2 slices of bread and 2 slices of cement that was supposed to be butter Won't be back please avoid

Quality food at very affordable prices and very helpful staff

My Son and I have been wanting to try this comfortable-looking restaurant/bar for some time and thought this Sunday should be the day for it. We were pleasantly surprised at first having been seated quickly by one of the three or four girls visibly working there. One asked politely, would you like drinks and we ordered Pepsi and Fresh Orange which came (no-optionly) well-iced . We were made aware of the several things that were not available such as macaroni, gammon, roast beef and something else unremembered, thinking ... well, they must have been very busy that day as only about a dozen customers were there. Never mind. I had the turkey meal which when it came was short on presentation, soggy on Yorkshire pudding, lacking in roast potatoes and a bit too "al dente" on the carrots. My son, a very hearty eater and is also a non-complainer, dully chomped his way through a tiny plate of soup for a fiver and fish 'n chips which looked as tired on the plate as the look on the young waitress's face. To cap it all, only when the bill arrived did I discover that my fresh orange juice was, in fact, "Frobisher's Orange" with a 4 ounce dash of lemonade added ... and causing the £3.20 "fruit" juice to increase in price to £5.40. Overall, the decor, food, drinks and service have potential. If the staff were more motivated, the food more hearty, hot, and more like the photos on the menu, and the drinks menu priced at all. It's all really needing to be better. More than slightly disappointed.

Very nice meal. Well attended friendly staff. Only one disappointment was I had to ask for extra custard as my apple crumble was a bit dry and you don't get much custard. Willingly brought to me, but I didn't realised until I got home that I had been charged for it! £1 for a tiny jug.

Sunday roast was first class, friendly and attentive staff, would visit again.

Lucy our server catered for all that we asked for. The drinks and food was served without any waiting. The tastes were excellent so much so I said to pass on our thanks to the chefs

Went here for Mother's day, was amazing service and the food was exquisite. There was many food options available that sounded delicious. Our server was very attentive and even with there section being very busy they catered to our every need and we're very polite, would deffinatly recommend and will be back again.

Got a mixed grill and as usual all the meat was overly done though I asked for medium cook. Had mixed grill a few times and it's always overly done - had the friends eggs to rely on. Other person got kebab and it was good.

Food was okay, but the steak was served warm, not hot. Had to be sent back, very disappointing. Uncommon beers only, so it's a hit or miss.

Very cozy comfortable place to eat but we waited over an hour for food and the place was quiet hardly anyone there so as much as I like the place I wouldn't go back. Going by other comments I'm not alone in waiting for over an hour for food. Before it arrived I felt like leaving to be fair.

Attentive staff. Food was nice but the meat was more rare then medium.

Service was disjointed with a few mistakes with our order but was corrected. One plate of food was quite cold but the other two were fine. Blunt cutlery. Lovely cosy ambience and will give it another visit.

Food was amazing and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely would recommend for anyone stopping through for a nice wee bite to eat. The Classic Beef Burger was braw along with the pepperoni pizza, had a couple drinks which were nice and delivered quickly.

I am a fairly regular customer at the dunnichen stone and every time i visit i am always very welcomed by the team. Fiona, emily and darryl are always so helpful and make me feel special and appreciated. I look forward to coming everytime and feel even happier when i leave. Jess and satarupa from the kitchen team always have my meals cooked to perfection! I enjoy every single visit, thank you dunnichen stone team :)

Came in today for a roast with the family and wasn't disappointed, our server Darryl was very accommodating and recommended the beef which was delicious and cooked perfectly the gravy that came with the roast was amazing also will definitely be back

Visited this evening, food not much better than McDonald’s next door, service started of well but that member of staff finished there shift, young brunette dealt with me after my order was taken, rude and arrogant, won’t be returning, better service and food next door at McDonald’s. This pub has definitely gone down, will guess it will become closed just like many others soon.

I have visited this place several times now and each time I have received a warm welcome and fantastic hospitality from all of the staff. On each occasion the food has always been good and well prepared. The atmosphere is also very friendly and warm. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area. Keep up the good work.

Met friends for lunch on New Year's Eve. Lovely experience. Nice atmosphere. Lovely staff. Only problem was, never got coffee as one of our party only takes goat or soya milk, but told not available.

Great dinner experience while visiting from America!

As a regular customer I was very disappointed been going here for many years we used to celebrate special occasions here but after my recent visit I won’t be back very poor customer service after being served cold hunters chicken. Manger never came out to apologise or offer any apologies, I went to pay the bill & my cold hunters chicken was still on it even after i returned to the waitress. I did get offered another one but by that point I was put off eating. Emailed head office but still not heard back. Won’t be back that’s for sure. Regular loyal customer & not even an apology 😡

Visited for Christmas Dinner with family and food and drink was brilliant and served promptly and servers were really nice

Service was poor, no one checked that the food was ok after it being served. Roast Turkey meals were served without the cranberry sauce the roast potatoes were not crispy and tasted like they had been left sat a while. One tiny (like 1cm) sized piece of broccoli on each plate and Yorkshire puddings that were more like pancakes they actually had not risen at all. The fish and chips were good. But don't think we will be back

Absolutely beautiful lunch today Saturday 16th December. Philly Cheese Steak baguette so much steak, cheese and filling and cooked to perfection also the chips were delicious

Staff were very nice and welcoming 5 stars to them. As for the food it was very disappointing 3 steaks and a kids cheeseburger meal ordered. The steaks were very small with a large part of it being gristle, the burger pate was almost like a McDonald's. We asked for no lettuce but was sent with lettuce, should have sent it back but chose to remove it but then my daughter never ate it because of this. 5 small mushrooms, 2 tiny onion rings and the grilled tomato was still hard and not soft and juicy, peas were dry. My other daughter asked for no tomato or mushrooms on her plate instead just to serve them with my meal, never happend yet again I should have said something but from the second the plates hit the table we were just shocked at what we were seeing and disappointed. Steak should have at least been flattened out a bit to improve the look of it and increase the size on offer to 10oz, more mushrooms on the plate cooked and coated in butter, would be better to serve grilled cherry tomatoes on the vine rather than just a tomato cut in half, larger onion rings and use skinny fries. Doing this would fill the plate and make it look more appealing and could even allow them to increase the price.Burgers would be more appealing if they were hand made and thicker even on the childrens menu. The worsed thing I it was my youngest 14th birthday treat. There was a table came in after us who were served food before us but didnt seem to stay very long. This review is based on our experience so cannot comment on other food on the menu.

Meal was absolutely stinking. i had macaroni, and it was like, out of a tin, i then had jam sponge and custard again the sponge was out of a plastic cup microwave thing and you got very little custard so I definitely won't be back.

Welcome was very friendly and guided to our pre booking table, which was comfortable and cozy, just what was needed on a miserable weather day. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, with the food being extremely good, hot and tasty and reasonably priced. To conclude a pleasant afternoon meal and highly recommended 🤤

Beautiful restaurant friendly staff just lack the final touches

Staff let us in but they told us the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes so we rushed to order (the kitchen was closing at 7pm). Food was okay slightly on the greasy side and staff really didn't feel like they wanted to be there due to their attitude. Not really worth going.

Arrived at 12 as per booking. The waitress attended really quickly to take our drink order. I was reading the menu knowing my friend who has food intolerances always has fish and chips. The waitress then informed us that there was no fish, steak, gammon or rice. Apparently, they didn't get a delivery yesterday. My choice would have been Gammon as it was recommended to me as 'the best she had ever had' I was very disappointed. The waitress did come back and say there was half fish if she was happy to have that. When it arrived it was a very pale batter and had skin. Mostly soggy batter and no fish. Very disappointing visit. Don't exactly know how the bill was made up but with a bottle of zero lager and my lasagne plus half fish and used 30% voucher it came to £22. More than the food was worth. Will go back sometime and see if things have improved.

Out for a late lunch with friends, we were welcomed as we came in and served promptly and by staff who obviously cared. The food was really good, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, we asked for extras and things changed and nothing was too much hassle for the staff. Would recommend this place for the food and the staff. Keep up the good work all. 😃

A great deal of attention had obviously been taken to ensure that staff and customers were compliant with current guidelines. 1st class food at very reasonable prices in a clean, safe environment. Pleasant staff and dogs welcome too.

I visited today with a mate we were served straight away by the wonderful staff who were very cheerful. Food was served quickly and was hot and well presented.

My husband and I have just enjoyed the Cowboy Burger and Hunter's Chicken respectively, which were both cooked to perfection by the young chef, Alex, which, apparently, was his first day cooking the main meals. Ash, our server, was very polite and helpful. Overall, the whole experience was very enjoyable, and we would recommend a visit to this very friendly restaurant, which provides a wide variety of delicious meals.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been here. The last time I had a bad experience with the chef but todays visit renewed my enthusiasm to return to the dunechan stone. The service was excellent food was really nice and hot and tasted brilliant.

We were a group of 7, 5 adults and 2 children. The service was quick and nothing was too much trouble. Our server was lovely, she was friendly and gave us little spoons for the kids which although sounds like nothing, that’s something that’s never given without us having to ask specifically for. The food was tasty and hot. Overall a lovely meal with family.
