Duke of Wellington in Wellingborough

We celebrated a milestone birthday and the experience was seamless from start to finish. We booked the snug for 10 people. A large display was accommodated for without fuss, and our supplier (Balloonfully yours- highly recommend) was able to set up the display a few hours in advance. We were asked to preorder, so as you’d expect the food was served in a timely manner, and all correct. The food was lovely (we have come to the Duke often, and never had a bad meal), portions were decent, everyone was full. The service was brilliant 👌🏽. Our waitress checked on us periodically. The birthday cake came out with about 5 or so waitresses singing Happy Birthday to my husband ☺️ This is the 2nd time we’ve celebrated in the snug for a special occasion, with both sides of the family now, and both times we’ve not been disappointed. I actually originally booked for a different restaurant nearby as like I said we come to the Duke every so often. But the other restaurant couldn’t guarantee an area (and I wanted to put up a display), advised I could book a room for a fee. However at the Duke, all wishes accommodated for, no extra fee, no stress, great food and service, which is all you can ask for a very special celebration for a very special person.

First time visitors, this is a great place for Sunday lunch, food is very good and service is excellent, its always nice when using a restaurant for the first time to be able to leave such a positive review, definitely recommend.

Happy to leave a 5 * review here for others to enjoy this treasure in Stanwick, a chocolate box, picturesque village, greeted by a friendly chap who made my friend and I welcome immediately. Thank you.

OK, I suppose I might be biased as I can walk to this delightful pub. Having said that, the food, the presentation, the ambience, all the staff are second to none. Certainly London standards, it makes me proud that this is our village pub. Finally, great acknowledgement and praise needs to go to the chefs, the quality and presentation of ALL the food is absolutely outstanding. All the other "nice to haves" in a pub would mean nothing if the food wasn't as excellent as it is. It is a must visit venue, worth the drive or in my case, worth the walk !! Congratulations to all.

I feel I need to leave a review after reading a few recent bad reviews on here for poor service. We had a lovely meal today with family - all of us had roast dinners which were great, fab portion sizes, and pudding to follow. Service was really good, there are plenty of members of staff working who are nearly always busy. Special mention to “Mrs Hill” (she works at my daughter’s school) who was our waitress today - thanks for being attentive! Would definitely return. Not really sure why it’s my first visit here to this lovely pub when I live down the road!

We had a table at 7pm on March 11th. We had two young men servers, we all said how friendly and helpful they were, joking with our table the whole night. They were lovely! I sadly did not get their names but hopefully from the time and date you can identify who they were and pass on our thanks. The food was wonderful as normal. Starters, mains and puddings all cooked to perfection, all hot and fresh and tasted wonderful. It made for a lovely birthday meal.

Had red pubic hair in our food on mothers day meal 87 year old mother was disappointed ruined the day as she was sick with the hair

Family celebrations for 10 people. The Duke of Wellington is now favourite place to eat in the Wellingborough Rushden area. Fantastic food and attentive staff for who nothing to much trouble. Thanks for a great experience.

The best roast dinner I have ever had outside of my own house! (And a vegan one at that!) wonderful food, so tasty and crafted with attention to detail, fresh and colourful. Staff were super friendly too, Christian was lovely. Amazing experience :) plus fab vegan options which is appreciated

Was treated to a meal with friends yesterday. I had travelled from london and we dont get to see each other often so it was a big deal. We had seen good reviews so decided to try here for a sunday roast, drinks and a nice catch up... big mistake! The service was awful, it was busy but some of the attitudes of the staff was awful, we heard how they spoke to other customers too. We were very abruptly told we "wouldn't recommend dessert as the kitchen was so busy and it would be a long wait" .. my friend actually cried as this was supposed to be a special treat for us. Sadly we felt an inconvenience for the staff and what should have been a great catch up was ruined by terribly unhappy and snappy staff. On a positive, the food we had was amazing just let down by rude staff that made us feel like we didnt matter

What started as a lovely meal ,for a 60th birthday ended as a very marred experience, we were seated for 1pm,we were leisurely given the menus and and not rushed the staff brought a cake to the table and sang Happy Birthday.Dessert menus were given out at 2.50pm and we were informed that we needed to vacate the table at 3pm for other customers ,please tell me how we are supposed to decide, eat dessert and drink coffee in 10 mins,2 members of staff came and spoke to us,we then asked for the manager ,who duly told us of the 2 hr time frame, this was not explained when taking the booking by phone,we expressed our disappointment of our treatment, so it was decided we could have an extra 30mins,but we felt we had to rush our desserts then we was told we could have coffee to many conversations going backwards and forwards, we just wantedthe bill, even though the manager took the desserts and wine off the bill as a gesture .Moving forward the time frame need to be reminded to the customer when greeted for seating.

Absolutely fantastic place and service. Can not fault anything. We hired the barn for our dad’s wake after his funeral. The staff in the actual pub helping us book and organise beforehand and the girl behind the bar on the day were so helpful, friendly and efficient. The room was fantastic, all laid out ready for us and the buffet food was great. Plenty of it and loads of choice. Nothing was too much trouble. Four of us had between us: two steaks absolutely cooked to perfection, one belly of pork which was absolutely mouthwatering and the salmon that I'm told was superb. Starters were delicious too and it was all fairly reasonable. They obviously have an excellent chef who takes pride in his work and it must be an ethos throughout as the waiting staff were polite, very professional and extremely friendly. Special mention to the young lad who told us he is studying engineering at college. He (along with all the staff) is a credit to you. Many thanks. Will be highly recommending.

Visited as a large party of 16 and it was our first time at the Duke - criminal really as we only live in the next village and after last night will definitely return. service was good , food excellent , portion sizes are not big but perfect if you have a starter and dessert. All reasonably priced for the quality of food - the menu selection isn’t massive but a good selection to suit everyone with specials available. 5 star as couldn’t fault anything and looking forward to a return .

Last night had an exceptional meal at The Duke. Four of us in our party each selecting different meals. We all raved about our own dishes which were generous portions beautifully presented. Service was warm and attentive. Prices up a touch but having just spent 21 nights walking the SW Coastal Path eating out, they seemed reasonable (and I think all hospitality businesses are paying their staff a little more to retain the gems.)

Really nice pub in rural Northamptonshire. Our food was lovely (see pictures), the service received was also excellent and we were cared for very well. The only thing I would say is remember to get cash out (for a tip) beforehand as there are no cash points in the village (obviously not the pubs fault)

On Sunday 27th June 21. We went for a family meal out. The table had been booked for a month. We’re advised of my allergies. Yet the chef couldn’t tell me if it was safe for me to eat garlic bread.My main course which we paid £15 was shocking. I ordered roast pork. It turned up with pork, runner beans and mangetout and some kind of potatoes.(salad ones, tasted like he microwaved them).The pudding arrived and wasn’t anything I expected all you could taste was the gold spray.The next day my mouth felt like it was swimming in grease. Also stomach ache for two days.No one ate the Yorkshire puddings as they tasted like cardboard. .Definitely not recommended

My wife and I had the Sunday roast, I chose the Pork and the wife chose Beef. On arrival my wife found the beef rather tough, this was quickly put right and changed for pork. The pork was excellent as were the vegetables and the portions large, more than we could manage, with a couple of glasses of wine the meal was excellent. The bill was very reasonable.

We had a post lockdown family lunch. Between us we had pork , lamb , chicken and fish and chips . All were amazing and pubs Covid precautions were good . The pub has now got a lovely area at the back that has been extended to provide more outside seating . Highly recommend.

With so many familiar places not opened back up this place was a great find. Beautiful pub, great atmosphere and very good service. The food was first class - every element of it!

Been using the Duke for years now and actually had our wedding reception in the barn. We visited today for lunch and was so disappointed. The food here used to be exceptional. Great quality and good produce. The last couple of times we’ve been here the food quality is poor in comparison.I had lamb today with bubble and squeak with a red wine jus. The lamb was exceptionally tough, the bubble and squeak was tasteless and so dry I couldn’t actually eat it (this is obviously pre cooked and warmed) The jus was tasteless. My wife had chicken which again, she didn’t eat as it was so dry. It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely pub but it is just that now...a pub which does pub grub which should just concentrate on simple food but try to get it better.

Unfortunately trip advisor do not give you a ‘good’ option. The experience here wasn’t ‘very good’ nor was it average. It was good. Having said the above and whilst the food was indeed good and that’s what really matters, be aware of their misinterpretation of Tier 2 rules. You cannot order a drink before you order food and you cannot have one afterwards. I think they’ve taken the legislation verbatim rather than understanding the point of it. I would even suggest that it’s financially motivated which I’m afraid also means I would not return once the restrictions finally come to an end. It is a shame.

Food excellent; the Lebanese BBQ chicken perfectly cooked, lovely paprika chips and coleslaw. The roast beef was a huge portion with several vegetables and a large Yorkshire pud. Table service only because of lockdown. Limited choice of beer and wine, probably also due to lockdown, but, enough to make a good choice, including a brilliant Barolo. Will definitely be back!

Not been before, last meal with a group of friends before lockdown! Was lovely, the food ordering took quite a while, we waited a good 30/40 minutes to have our order taken but the food was amazing. The presentation was superb. Was gutted they had no white chocolate cheesecake, was looking to forward it all day, but the sticky toffee pudding was just as lovely. Understandably a few items on the menu were sold out, I seemed to pick everything that wasn't available, but it will only mean I need to return and have the pork belly and cheesecake on my next visit! Staff extremely friendly and polite. Fabulous visit.

Good food, good beer, good service. What's not to like? To split a hair, the aioli that came with the excellent Whitebait could have done with a bigger garlic punch - although this is a matter of personal taste. Would happily eat here again.

Always a favorite of ours for lunch & evening meals. Friendly attractive pub with a good selection of ales & wine in comfortable surroundings. Garden area to the rear with parking but car park is on a hill so for those less sure footed or when icy use the roads close to the pub at the front of the pub.Never been disappointed with the food as always good quality & served well. Menu includes good vegan options. A good idea to telephone ahead of time for more vegan availability. Well worth a visit.

It was quite busy when we arrived, although were soon seated with drinks, and ordered our mains. These took ages to arrive, and we had to ask a couple of times for water. When the food did arrive, it was excellent and very generous portions. The veg were a particular highlight. The roast beef, roast pork belly, and confit duck leg were all delicious.

We visited on a sold-out Wednesday evening and I couldn't fault the food, service and overall experience. I was initially worried that as the restaurant was fully booked we would have to wait a while for service/food to be delivered but we did not - very attentive waitress/waiter, food was outstanding and we will definitely be back again!

Had high hopes for this place but sadly on this occasion it didn’t live up to expectations. Our starter was very good but unfortunately one of the mains was not. In fairness we did tell the waiter and the cost was removed from the bill. Didn’t like the idea of choosing the menu from a tablet that everyone else had touched, laminated menus that can be sprayed and wiped down would have been better in my opinion. We could have checked the menu on our own phones but the signal is terrible so no other option. The tables were well spaced and staff wearing masks, however lots of people standing at the bar. Ending on a positive, the waiting staff were very attentive. We took advantage of the 50% off scheme but we thought the regular prices for a pub restaurant were expensive for the standard of food served.

Nice looking pub and good service from our waiter but poor quality food. Clearly nothing is freshly made and is all processed and from a packet. Very disappointing. Food is nothing like the description on the menu or photos.

We visited the Duke on Wednesday evening as did many others, the restaurant was very busy, my wife and I both had fish and chips followed by ice cream all were excellent. I had a pint of beer and my wife had a soft drink. The bill came to just over twenty quid which can't be bad. I think we will be back during this month.

I was disappointed with my lunchtime food. We were told they could not give us menus but to look online whilst at our table. Most other establishments are giving menus during the new restrictions. I ordered a BLT and fries which was stated as served on white bloomer bread. My husband asked if I could have it on a brown or granary alternative if possible. This was written by bar person on my order. The sandwich was clearly on a normal white sliced loaf, contrary to description and request. Mayonnaise and tomato sauce were given in sachets, which is a shame. When I asked the waiter to feed the bread issue back to the chef please, for his comments. We waited about 10 minutes or more, no sign of a member of staff, to clear table and we left without, desserts or coffees. We have in the past enjoyed supporting our local pub and this was our first visit since lock down. Choice of desserts were poor, with the special on sold out at 1.30 pm! It was not as good an experience as usual.

Had a great meal, the outstanding thing was the service from the waiter. He was cheerful, knowledgeable and very polite. He left a great impression on all our party.

We visited Saturday lunchtime to celebrate Mum's special birthday and had a wonderful time. All front of house staff were lovely, very attentive and welcoming. The food was amazing, my Mum commented it was the best chicken dish she has ever eaten!! We were not at all rushed and every course came out hot and delicious. We visited the Duke twice in the last week to celebrate my husband's 80th birthdayEach time with a party of friends and relatives. The food and service was perfect. Love this place, a great combination of pub and restaurant atmospheres. The staff are excellent; friendly and knowledgeable. The food is a fabulous combination of healthy choices alongside traditional favourites with a special twist. Something for everyone.
